Was only in town for short stay. Car overheated and Tire Pros took me the next day and fixed the problem within 2 hours. They pointed out their use of NAPA parts, which have a 2 year nationwide warranty which is great for us, as we travel frequently. And, they printed the NAPA warranty on the receipt. I've been a patron of Twentynine Palms Tire Pros/Mark Speer Automotive and Roy's Tires for about 5 years now. Every time I've needed a service done, usually involving tires, the staff have always been more than accommodating. The staff are extremely knowledgeable on any issues your vehicle may be having and if any particular staff member is unsure of the answer they will consult with other staff/technicians to give you accurate information. Prices are more than fair, if they don't have your particular tire in stock chances are they are able to have it on the following day. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I was on a trip to Joshua tree in April and had a tire pressure light come on. I was with friends in different cars and we decided to leave my car with the team to investigate and a limit of what could be spent to fix it (knowing I'd be out of cell range). I shared I was headed to Death Valley next and really couldn't have trouble there. The team took the time to look at everything, and re-patched my previously patched tire. Had a set of wheels and tires mounted and balanced here. They used an impact wrench when I asked them not to, which also caused other problems as now I sit and wait for another keyed socket to arrive as they torqued the lug bolts so tight, it split a 1/8" Vanadium steel socket. They also used a screwdriver to pry out the center caps to balance the wheel instead of pressing them out from the inside with your finger like a normal person. Doing so, left deep chips on the wheel face. They also did not use care when conducting the actual balancing process, as I have massive circular scuffs on the wheels where the center hub was secured. They work fast, and for always being busy, speaking with someone was no issue. But, the fact that I have $2,600 wheels that now need to be repainted is BS when the shop could have exercised better care/employed people that know what they are doing. The lack of experience shows when using a screwdriver to pry out a center hub. Do not recommend. read more

One of the worst shops i have ever been to. do yourself a favor and go to auto zone for FREE for a diagnostic because these scam artists dont even look at your car. My car was sitting for a week leaking oil from the engine and after ordering the wrong part 4 times because they are too stupid and lazy to actually look at the car and order the right part in the first place, they charged me almost $900 for a $300 part and then returned the car in the same condition. They didn't know the engine oil was leaking? But they did a diagnostic to look at the car so how did they not know. It's honestly a shit show shop with uneducated mechanics and terrible customer service. So many cars sitting out front for weeks, DO NOT GO HERE. Unless you literally want to put your money and time in a shredder. read more

I took my vehicle in for a smog check and they only do smog checks on Mondays. Well their price for a smog check is $50 When I went in they asked me what kind of vehicle and I told them. Then they came out and said your car passed but failed the visual inspection. Well why couldn't they have said that it wasn't going to pass by looking at it before they continued and I figured it out. It was just about the money. Then on top of insult to injury they charged me $91.75 and said it was because of the type of vehicle. Well again why didn't they tell me that from the gate. I think they are crooks and they will never see my face in there again and I will be sure to get my $91.75 out of them by telling others what they do to their unsuspecting customers. read more

Mark Speer Automotive Review: My 1998 Chevy Tracker developed an oil leak at the front of the engine. Although it took over a week to get an appointment for a diagnostic check, when they checked it and found leaking seals at what they believed could be the front main and cam shafts, and gave me a detailed estimate. Two weeks later I was able to have the work done. They had it done when anticipated and even seemed genuinely happy that only one seal needed replacement and my bill was $160 less than the estimate. Pleasant, professional service - I had to drive to San Diego that day and the car ran perfectly. Worth the wait to go there! read more

I really regret having to write this review, because my some of my past transactions here have been very positive. Kind and helpful people work there. But after having spent several thousand dollars at Mark Speer Automotive, I just had a discouraging and upsetting interaction that I have to tell other people about. Here's what happened. I had them put in a transmission cooler in my Jeep. I also had them replace all the transmission fluids, take off the transmission pan, put in a new gasket and so on - transmission service. The bill was over $800 (the transmission cooler itself was only $50, most of the rest was labor), but I swallowed and paid it -- after all, I wanted my Jeep to run properly. As I drove away, they told me to come back in a few days to check the hose fittings on the new transmission cooler. That's nice, I thought, they're making sure that everything's working. And as it turned out, a new, rather substantial water drip began, and I naturally assumed it was the new hose fittings. When I came brought in the Jeep a few days later, it turned out that the hose fittings were fine, as was the new transmission cooler. But, I was told, the radiator was cracked and I needed a new one. They quoted me $500 for a new radiator (part only). Gulp, I thought. Then I looked online and found the OEM radiator for a little over $200, so I bought it. Today, they they refused to install my new radiator. It's not that they wouldn't do it for free -- they refused to do it at all! When I called to schedule an appointment, I was told "we stopped doing that [installing customer-bought parts] because of warranty issues." And then, in the background, "Mark won't do it." Mark being Mark Speer, the owner. Warranty issues have nothing to do with it, of course -- profit is what drives this policy, this is about marking up parts. To illustrate, my Jeep is from 2007 and has been out of warranty for a long time, and furthermore I bought the OEM radiator. In other words, I don't even have a warranty, and even if I did I wouldn't be voiding it with this radiator. But they didn't even ask about this; they showed no no interest at all in my warranty. This comes after I had just days before spent more than $800 -- which resulted, in part, in my owning a cracked radiator. I didn't complain, I didn't accuse them of cracking it, I just bought a new radiator and asked them to put it in. Instead of installing it with a smile, if not an apology, and charging me for the labor, they told me they wouldn't do it because of "warranty issues." I don't blame the employees -- in the past, they have been unfailingly polite and helpful. This just seems like a company policy driven by the desire to add x% profit by marking up parts, and the employees are told to repeat some drivel about warranty issues. But why not just charge a reasonable profit for labor, instead of blocking me from saving a few hundred dollars by searching out a cheaper part? There isn't much of a choice in auto mechanics in 29 Palms, but it looks like I'm going to have to make the drive to Yucca Valley, or further, to spend my money. With AAA Premier I can get a 100-mile tow! - A P.S. Can I just mention how self-defeating this policy is? I have three cars and a motorcycle. Not a month goes by that I'm not getting something done to one of them. I basically budget a few hundred dollars in car repairs, per month, per car! I could well be spending that at Mark Speer, but by refusing to install my radiator, he has basically said goodbye to my business of thousands per year. I guess those mysterious "warranty issues" are more important. read more

They like to talk down to people and bend them over whenever and however they can, the owner is very arrogant , and thinks he is the only person in the world that can fix your problem and you have to pay whatever he demands. Please steer clear before you get hustled or forced into a bad situation ... again watch out for this repair shop and shady business practice at all cost and hope this message gets to you before making a costly mistake!!! Paid $100 for a safety inspection on a car. They said two tires needed replacing, the other two were okay to drive on. I also purchased two tires from them. Literally two days later one of the un-replaced tires exploded on the freeway. No nail, no nothing, just wear and tear. Went back to Mark Speer to replace other two tires thinking it was a simple mistake (although even that should be unacceptable from a professional). Had to wait a couple days because they were out-of-stock of my size tire. It became pretty clear they only sold me two tires was because they only had two; they told me it was safe to drive an unsafe car rather than refer me to someone who had the stock I needed to make my car safe. As a result, I spent several hours stuck on the freeway, had to get towed, and all the accompanying stress because they didn't want me going somewhere else to buy the tires needed to make the car safe and they didn't have them in stock. No offer to return the fee for safety inspection, no discount on the tires. read more

I can't say enough good things about Roy's! During a previous weekend, I was visiting my husband at the Marine Corps base. We noticed that the right front tire was low & found a small hole in it, but I had to wait until Monday to get it fixed. I arrived at Roy's just 30 minutes after they opened. The front desk staff was very friendly & offered me a few different tire options, quoting me the exact amount I would pay for the tire itself, having it put on the car, taxes ... etc. - I knew exactly how much I was going to pay, no surprises (and yes, I paid exactly what they quoted me). They put the new tire on AND checked all my others tires to ensure they were safe & full of air in less than 30 minutes. I called to make an appt. Don said to be there 8 a.m.sharp... I proceeded to wait for 2 hours.. when he finally told me they don't make appts.. I went there for brakes on the vehicle I had bought used. Don says he needs to speak to the previous owner.. very curious. (My neighbor had put new pads on the front brakes the week before..and said not to tell them before hand, in case they were dishonest.) I mentioned the new brake pads. Don comes and sits close to me. Calls me by my first name. Says in 40 years of working on cars, he has never seen brakes so bad. That there was dried mud and rust on the rear brakes. That brake fluid is not getting to the rear brakes at all and they just don't know why.. they cannot figure it out. I say "think it's the master cylinder? I have driven many vehicles with worse brakes the this, and one can expect mud and rust on old brakes". He then says he has bad news.. that my Chevy is old and the parts may not even be able to be found.. that the estimate on the repairs is $1690.10...just shy of $1700. My neighbor texts me to get the heck out of there and fast, so I do. As I pay for the inspection (Don said it would be $110 for inspection and diagnosis, the lady at the desk said the bill was $55..) she asked if I was having the brakes done there. "No, I say, my boyfriend says you are thieves" She blinks. I leave. The neighbor and I go together to Autozone and easily buy the parts. It comes to less than $200, and only one part needed to be ordered. My neighbor put it all together for me at his hourly rate - the entire job cost me $375. The brakes are great now, no thanks to Speer. They may do a good job, but they are not an honest shop. Old Don thought he would scare the little lady with his story of horrible brakes and mud on a tire well. I might have fallen off the turnip truck, but it wasn't yesterday. I will never go back there. read more

Nov. 7, 2022: I brought my 2003 Park Avenue Ultra to Roy's Tires for smog. Although I had to go home and come back in the afternoon to pick up my car, the smog technician (Chad Buus) did a very thorough job in doing some repairs in order for my car to pass the smog. Of course, the efficiency and productivity of the crew depends on the leader of the pack, Don, who monitors everything that's going on in the shop. It was my first time to meet and know Don, and it was also my first time to bring my car to Roy's Tires. If Don is a great leader, so are the two ladies working with him. I call them the "A" Team; they all do great customer service, which matters so much for all customers. Based on my first time experience, Roy's Tires excels among the auto repair shops in the Morongo Basin. Again, thanks to Don for his friendly and outgoing personality (of course, this includes the two charming counter ladies (I forgot to ask their names). They are perfect from small time smog checks to major repairs. They are tucked off on the west side of Adobe Rd as you head towards the Marine Corps Base. They have a complete tire service shop as well. Even if you just need tires mounted and balanced. They were quick with my smog check and had me right out the door, it was also the cheapest in town. Extremely friendly staff at the desk, and super fast service. I received phone calls every time something was done or about to be done on my vehicle. I wish I could leave 10 stars. This was my absolute best car repair experience in my life. On a very lengthy Southwest road trip, I woke up in Twentynine Palms with a flat. I called over to the Tire Pros and the woman I spoke with was extremely helpful. When I arrived with my vehicle, they quickly made room for me despite not having the tire I needed. They went above and beyond to find an alternate to get me back on the road safely. Thanks to them, I am able to confidently drive the additional 2,000 miles of my trip. Been going here 6 years or so. Never again. Every time my wife goes in alone, there's a problem. Wife went in with a tire that had been damaged with a nail and repaired with Fix-a-Flat less than two days earlier. Roy's / 29 Palms Tire Pros refused to patch the tire saying the Fix-a-Flat had damaged the tire and sold her a new tire. She let me know while she was there and I was stunned. I have used Fix-a-Flat for almost 30 years - never had a tire place refuse to fix a tire because of it. We're talking name brand Fix-a-Flat, not some knock-off. We do a lot of desert off-pavement driving. We have used Fix-a-Flat dozens of times and never had a problem with tire repairs because of it, even at Roy's. I called my mechanic, that also uses Fix-a-Flat, and two other tire stores. They all said the same thing - there should be no problem repairing a tire that had been repaired with Fix-a-Flat. *Maybe* if it had been in there a long time, sure, but not less than two days. It's just a pain to clean out - yeah, I know. I drove over and asked to see the tire. It took a long time to produce it. The desk lady came out with the tire and a pile of rubber scrapings as "evidence" that the Fix-a-Flat damaged the tire. It was just the scraping of the Fix-a-Flat that had been cleaned out, likely in the time it took to produce the tire. The interior of the tire looks brand new, as expected. They straight up ripped off my wife and sold her a new tire when it was not necessary. This was not some cheap tire either - this was a six month old Hankook. Make your own judgments, but I will never go there again. read more
