The food has gone down hill and the owner is beyond rude. Won't ever be back. Don't waste your money

We are visiting from Alberta and found this little hidden gem. Their soups were delicious and the veggie and cheese sandwich I got was loaded with veggies and flavour. And the homemade bread was divine! The couple who own the place were extremely welcoming and charismatic. Food was well-priced as well. We will definitely be visiting this place again next time we are in the area. read more

Let me start off by adding a comment about the owners. I skimmed over many reviews about this place saying how the owner was rude. When I went he did give off that vibe with who I assume was his wife, but I immediately identified he wasn't rude by heart, it was more of a schtick. He was rude to his loyal customers and made a few snark remarks but they laughed along at it. If you go into this restaurant and demand solid customer service or complain about the food, then yeah, the guy (owner) will probably chase you out and I'm not even kidding. So with that aside, the food here was great. Very fresh. Had the soup and sandwich combo. The bacon lentil soup was good and tuna sandwich was fantastic. You can tell they care about the quality of the vegetables and prepare it well. I'd come back and wouldn't mind the owner busting my cops. read more

You'll love them or hate them: the little old Eastern European couple have character! The husband is a joker and may offend some people on the way with his dry sense of humor; the grumpy wife can mumble something complaining that you didn't return the dishes where expected, or that you should go get the food if she doesn't feel like bringing it to you. Either way, it's an experience! Mainly because they make everything from scratch (include their fresh bread! !). They usually have a handful if soup options which you can have as a lunch combo with selected sandwiches. One if my favorites is the meat loaf: very flavorful although a bit on the salty side. I'd recommend then over Subway across the street! ! However keep in mind that if you'll need a receipt (for company reimbursement or whatever) they won't give you one. They say they only give you whatever the cash register prints (which looks like what a calculator would print: some numbers added and the final amount with no description of the products). Once I even had an incident with the grumpy lady, having ordered in advance for a company event and making clear I needed the receipt to get reimbursed (which they reassured me when I ordered). After paying cash and getting the cash register numbers, I asked for a more specific one, and she said there wasn't such a thing and the best they could do would be a print out of a credit card machine, which at least shows the store name. I then said I'd really needed it (if that was the best they could offer anyways), for what she responded "too bad you already paid cash so I can't give you the credit card print out because I won't reimburse your cash and let you pay with a card now. Next time, honey. ..". Well, that didn't make me a happy camper, so I thought I'd warn others just in case you need the receipt. But if your don't, I'd recommend their food. read more

Think Seinfeld -soup nazi. With a lovely side kick. Great soup and sandwich. Down to earth, no trendy bistro. Just good healthy and fresh food. Don't be put off by the service style as its part of the atmosphere. read more

Avoid!! This business does not run honestly and the owner has anger management issues and harassed me AND the food is NASTY. They make up their own prices as well on the food. Many times i had the owner scream at me. This last time i asked for egg salad and he barely put anything on it and then charged me a random amount he made up in his head for putting half a spoon more. When i asked gently why i was charged $13 when it was supposed to me $9, he slammed my debit card at me, grabbed my food from my hands and screamed at me saying i can never come back. WTH! Out of nowhere anger issues. I will NEVER go here again and i warn others. read more

Great place, used to come here all the time in highschool. Just went in again after a few years and still top notch. I had the tuna melt and it's to die for. Tomatoe ham soup - amazing! !! Simple ingredients in the egg salad sandwich went perfectly with the soup. The sandwich: three layers - egg whites with mayo, thinly sliced red peppers and lettuce and the kicker is just a little black pepper. Sliced bread was crusty on outside, soft and very light on the inside. The soup: broccoli - on the watery side but thickens on the slightly oily surface. Small pieces of broccoli with every spoonful. Very good! The service: No nonsense and observant owners made sure food came quick and customers do not take up room in small restaurant. Eat first, pay later. I was reluctant to try this place at first as strip mall sandwich joints are generally a total waste of time. I've only ever had the tuna melt because I can't bear to miss an opportunity to eat it. The key to these delicious sammiches is definitely the bread; it's homemade, crackly but soft and has the most amazing flavour. The other ingredients are not overbearing and let the bread shine as the star. Mushroom soup is also good. If you're not used to the service here, I can understand why it's off putting; I've literally had entirely non-verbal experiences, where he points to ask you to order, waves you off to indicate he'll bring the food then nods a thank you. I don't mind though; they aren't rude of condescending, just brusque. Plus the sammiches really speak for themselves. Give this place a try and if the service really bothers you, take it to go! read more

Good food, but horrible service by allysonb (1 review) March 07, 2011 - Doesn't like it I'm still a little upset by my experience at Soup Plus today. I entered the restaurant with my son, needing a quick lunch for him before returning him to school. Another person entered immediately behind us. As I faced the counter to order, the couple who runs the cafe faced me and, while the man greeted us warmly, the woman appeared to be actually glaring at me! Then, she turned to the man waiting behind us, and started to serve him. This man stopped her, pointed to me, and said, "She was here first". I thanked him and started to ask a question about the lunch special, but the woman completely ignored me and continued to take the other customer's order. I had considered just leaving the cafe after the woman's downright rude behaviour, but the male cook/owner had been very friendly and my son was using their washroom, so we stayed. Finally, I placed the order: A sandwich and soup for my son. I had noticed that there was a special soup price if the order was placed with a sandwich order. We were in a bit of a hurry, but I agreed to eat in. Bad idea. When it came time to pay, I noticed the woman, who literally GRIMACED at me when I faced her (not great for one's self-esteem!), was charging me for the regular price for the soup instead of the combo soup and sandwich price. When I pointed this out to her, she abruptly told me, "That price is only if one person is ordering". So, because there were two of us (I had helped my son eat his soup), we had to pay a higher price. Now, I'm not cheap or anything, and this was a matter of only .50 more, but it was more than a bit off-putting to be told this in such an unfriendly manner. I challenged the woman: "This isn't the advertised price!" Then, she turned and pointed to an area of very small writing on their menu board which stated, "Soup prices will be charged at the higher rate if more than one customer is ordering". At this, I stated, "Well, this doesn't seem quite fair. And no one told me either!". Then, the woman began to argue loudly with me, stating, "If we didn't do this, then we would be on the streets instead of in business! We don't want poor people coming in here together and sharing orders." I got the feeling that she was classifying me as a somehow undesirable person in her establishment. Did I look poor? I don't think so, but even if I were, would rude treatment be okay? Anyway, at that point, I was angry. I said, "You are being incredibly rude and I will never be back here". At that, she said, "Okay, I will give you the lower soup rate, but just this once. I would go out of business if I let you do this again!" Very dramatically, with a raised voice. By now, I was also thoroughly embarrassed by this confrontation. At this point, the debit machine appeared to not be working and the male cook/owner came by. He adjusted the machine and the woman then said, "I told her about the soup rules." I then said to the man, "If you want repeat customers, I suggest that you rethink that rule and the rude way that it was conveyed to me!" The woman then began to go on again about "people who come together and expect to pay the special price, how they are trying to stay in business". I looked at her and said, "I'm not going to argue with you". She kept talking, and I repeated, "I'm not going to argue with you anymore". The man, at that point, said, "We've been in business for 8 and a half years, and we've got lots of customers". I stated, "That's good" and then was finally able to pay and leave. Cover charges for lunch? May be reasonable, folks, but not informing people immediately upon ordering ISN'T reasonable. But the worst part? The rudeness, of course. This was good food, by the way, but I'll never be back. The bizarre behaviour of the woman throughout our experience there (did I remind her of someone she hated?), has left such an unpleasant taste in my mouth. read more

A little awkward, but I can tell this is a place that has slot of regulars that love them. I was a little put off by their dry humour, but I have grandparents that are the same way so I chalked it up to them being nice in their own way even though I still felt it was kind of rude. I saw lots of regulars come in and I could tell they knew all them by name and knew about their life even if they hadn't seen them in a long time, which is nice, there's not enough places like that. I wanted a beef dip, I actually found this place by googling beef dip. So I was pretty disappointed to see a small hard to see Sorry beside it. I asked when they will have that again and she said never. They just don't want to mess up their menu and remove it or cross it out. So that sucked. Nothing else was really my taste, but we tried something anyway. I ordered one sandwich because it sounded at least a little spicy. It was good but not what I was expecting. When I brought the plate back she asked me how it was and that she knew I'd like it, said she predicted that I don't like spice so she left off the spicy stuff... Price was very good in my opinion, and they were very friendly as we left. Really good homemade bread and other ingredients and the soup was good too. In all we will go back, and I think they are a sweet couple and hope all goes well for them! read more

I don't understand how anyone can go to subway across the street when soup plus is so damn amazing! I've been going for years now and every time is better than the last. The Louisiana poor boy is the best: spicy beef in their homemade sauce and fresh homemade bread! Their soups are to die for as well with at least 5 options a day but mushroom and tomato ham are my faves by far! It's a must try and you'll definitely go back for more! The owners are a hilarious and sassy couple and are always bickering but it's entertaining! They always joke and sometimes give compliments! Love this place! read more

If you're looking for a soup and sandwich, this is the place. Local, fresh and homemade! You can taste the tlc.

The sandwiches are interesting but the owner's demeanour is sometimes tough to swallow. Great alternative to the Subway across the street.

2 stars because with a heavy heart, I have been disappointed . I never thought I would write a bad review for them, in fact I also laughed at people who didn't understand them. Used to come here frequently but haven't gone in a while. While waiting for a prescription across the street, I had to stop in and pick up lunch for myself and my man. I order the tuna and his BLT. Now, the sandwiches used to be packed , and the soups full of veggies and spice . My sandwich was missing the cheese, barely any veggies or tuna. 11$ for amazing bread-but not worth 11$. Yes it is fresh and homemade, the bread is delicious. I missed the way the food used to be, our soups were basically all broth. I used to chat with the owners and laugh, knowing their sense of humour. But they seems to be more negative,they were clearly having a heavy argument when I came in, and continued to bump heads which left me standing awakardly by the till for a good 20 mins ignored. They didn't seem to remember me which is kinda of disappointing as I was a weekly regular customer for a very very long time . And I always left a heft tip but today I paid with a 20 $for my 19 $ purchase. Wasn't even offered my change but that's nothing compared to what I would tip each and every visit. I will go back to shake off this sour experience,maybe it was a off day for them or some personal problems. I will speak up about the lack of quality we encountered today. I really miss the food-how it used to be compared to today and the fact that they are the only healthy and nutritious restaurant amongst the whole strip. Maybe next time Soup plus, maybe. I have been to this establishment many times and always gave the owners the benefit of the doubt and assumed they were just quirky, but after today....NEVER again. I went in and bought three soups. Got the usual terrible service, but the soup is good so I once again let it go. Got back to work and had to phone them to find out what kind of mushrooms they use in the mushroom soup because a friend that I bought it for has bad reactions to shitake mushrooms. On the phone she told me that I would have to come in to find out what kind they use. I told her that I had just been there, I only needed to know for my friend what type of mushrooms they use. She repeated herself again extremely rudely and then HUNG UP on me!!! I will be sure to spread the word to everyone I can to NEVER go there. Take some customer service courses people!!! Last time I was there as well, he nuked the bacon for my sandwich. It was hard as a rock and tasted like it was on the verge of being spoiled. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more
