When there are lines of customers waiting to order as well as pick up online purchases, perhaps filling napkin dispensers can wait? I've never had a bad bagel from here in over 30 years. Yeah it's changed not the same owners and help turnover and skillset varies. Prices may seem high one month then you come in again and they don't seem so bad. They are not trying to gouge anyone, just run a business and that includes all the taxes, permits, licenses, insurance and properly paying their employees. They really do have a bend over backwards attitude towards just plain being kind, I've seen folks get rude and mean towards the employees and it's just wrong. Stop that be an adult. Order is messed up, they make it right I've seen and experienced that 100%. Buy a dozen bagels get a card punch. No, REALLY, get a punch card. Now that is said. I am a New Yorker. Don't try and tell me how my bagel is supposed to be. I know. There is a certain pull, and chew that is part of the experience while you savor the texture and seasoning involved. There should be a certain a la dente exterior texture from being boiled. THIS IS IT. There is no other. Pumpernickel bagels and an experience in themselves. I lean more towards the savory side with my bagels because a lot of time at home I make a lox sandwich. I can vouch for the lox spread, jalapeno spread and the highly under-rated cinnamon raisin walnut. The latter is definitely a treat and the former can apply to most bagels and bialys in a highly complementary fashion. The garlic bagel is made to only be toasted with butter, but sometimes I make a breakfast sandwich with them. I only like to go to establishments that have better food or convenience than what I can do at home. I still make my own bagels, because I can. Came in at 7:16 and expected an online order I made for 7:15 to be ready, as I ordered it ahead of time so I could grab it and leave. I get to the front counter and I'm just standing there waiting for at least 1/5 of the people working in the front to come ask me what I need. I even made eye contact with 2 people just for me to stand there for another 5 mins and get ignored before I had to go up to someone on the other side of the room and ask if my order was ready. And then just for them to tell me it'll be ready in a few minutes...it took 10min. And when I get to finally open my food, I find the paper wrapping they used is in the middle of my sandwich. Food is mediocre and paper is an ingredient apparently now in bagel sandwiches. Had to throw away the bagel because of how hard and stale it was. Won't be coming here again. read more

The bagels and cream cheese are just as wonderful as I remember as a child. It still has the same cozy, nostalgic feel to it as it always has! I grew up in Bellingham and worked downtown Bellingham for many years and I always went to the bagelry. It was a nice morning meal to get my day started. The owners were great back in the day but not sure if they still own it. I don't live in Bellingham anymore so when I visit I always stop in. It's a delicious treat and brings back so many memories. Always puts a smile on my face! I always get the bialy bagel with Italian spread it's my go to! The Bialy bagels are a softer texture than bagels and have a thin, cracker like center rather than a hole. They are topped with poppy seed & Onions. Delish that is all I can say! Very popular bagel spot. We went on a Sunday and the line was out the door. Seating is somewhat limited for how busy it is; but luckily bagels are an On-The-Go type of food. They have a pretty wide selection of bagels and spreads. My wife tried their garlic fennel spread which was really good (unless you don't like the smell of garlic, then maybe try something else). I ended up getting eggs and a bagel; which I think was a mistake. Nothing wrong about this; but nothing really stood out either. My rosemary bagel was really aromatic; but without an accompanying spread, the flavors felt somewhat lacking. My favorite bagel place for as long as I can remember. I've lived in Phoenix, North Carolina and Houston and nothing comes close. Everything bagel with Italian spread is my all time favorite. Personally, this place did not "wow" me. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but the line was really long and there was basically any seating. I think that if there's an option for another brunch place in town, I would pick somewhere else. It was just busy. The bagels are def unique and there isn't something similar I've seen in town. So if you're craving a bagel and something different this is a good place. I think the wait just wasn't for me. In addition the customer service could have been better, since they are so busy they really rush through your order and don't have much time to answer questions. In addition, they messed up my friends drink and claimed they didn't. I like the ambiance of this place but this time when I went there, contraction work inside the shop made is so much harder to have a good time. Coffee was great and I bought the bagels from here. Some everything, some rosemary and a blueberry. Bagels that this place has are good. I won't say they are the best. Food (4 stars) In terms of the quality of the food, there's no doubts that their bagels are the best in town. If fact, other "bagels" sold in town are more like bagel shaped bread. They just don't have the texture and flavor of a real bagel. Service (2stars) Their service is often painfully slow. It's not that there aren't enough people working. Many of them are often just walking around and not doing even when there's a long line. To make it worse, the same person who takes your order makes your bagel, extremely inefficient. There are two counters in the restaurant, and they they have designated one as an express lane. I have to say it's completely useless because you can only buy unsliced bagels. Today, there was a long line in the regular lane, but there was no customer in the express lane. There was one person staffing the express lane but was not doing anything! My final complaint is that their hours are extremely short. They close at 4:00pm (Mon -Sat) and 3:00pm (Sun). I give 3 stars because the food is good, but the service is less than mediocre. read more

I have gone to the Bagelry since the 90s (or was it the 80s)? Their bagels really are the best. I am not a purist from Brooklyn nor am I a regular bagel eater, but these are prepared properly with a good crust, perfectly baked bread, and great toppings (sesame is my favorite, but cinnamon raisin is a close second). I hadn't been here in years but it seems The Bagelry is stepping into the modern age (credit cards accepted, wha, what?) and no more "To Go" and "Regular Bagel" side of the storefront...so confusing. I ordered a couple of bagel sandwiches, directly off the menu. I waited 10 minutes in line to place my order. Once I placed my order, it took 10 minutes to get my food. The bagels are alway fresh and well-prepared. The service is what is it, the employees seemed to be having a great time (happy employees are good) so I can't really fault them. read more

This is my favorite bagel shop in the world! I always come here when visiting Bellingham. The storefront is super cute and they have the most delicious bagels I've ever had. Super crispy exterior and soft chewy insides. They have awesome flavors (including pumpernickel) and tons of cream cheese flavors and toppings. Wow! This place is incredible; from the food to the staff to the ambiance, I'm thrilled! As soon as you walk in the smell of coffee and fresh bagels surrounds you. I've had a hard time finding a bagel here on the west coast that even comes close to the ones I know and love from back on the east coast, but these are superb! Chewy and just dense enough, the flavors are perfectly balanced. I had the Lox Sandwich on a Garlic Bagel and added Cucumber, DELICIOUS! Eleanor made my order and she perfectly portioned the Lox, which was married beautifully with all the other flavors. Parking you do have to pay, it takes quarters and I didn't see white to pay cash but it might be on the back, not sure don't quote me! Took me 15 mins and I waited in line, didn't know what I was ordering and ordered bagels to go just to let people know! If you go to the wrong side you'll know it's no line and it has a SIGN!!! I have been going to The Bagelry since I was in college at WWU, way back in 1984 when it first opened, and it is still THE BEST! There is a reason it is always busy! It is because it is THAT GOOD! What I love: The bagels are delightfully chewy without being "doughy". The texture is fantastic. The selection of FRESH bagels is second to none! The quality of the ingredients they use is consistently great, not to mention mainly locally sourced! Their sandwiches? SO GOOD! The place has this groovy, authentic, hippy-ish kind of "college-town" feel without being contrived. There are lots of places to sit and all kinds of interesting, slightly bohemian flyers on the wall to help pass the time while you wait in line with 20 other people. The service is fine! In fact, Ebony is delightful! Yay! And, to the gal who grumbled about the service? Come on, give me a break! If you have to get in and out in 30 seconds or less, go through the drive-thru at Starbucks! This is an experience! No, seriously! My experience at the Bagelry wasn't stellar, but it was okay. First off, the window system they have for ordering and pickup was a little confusing for me, and the woman at the window wasn't at all friendly, but I'm sure I was the 2000th person she had to tell to go to the other window, so I get that. I had a Sourdough Bagel with Tuna, and my friend had a Rosemary Bagel with Tuna. My bagel was pretty small, and very tough, I had to microwave it when I got home just to soften it up, which worked fine. The tuna was not a generous portion at all. We also got Tim's Cascade chips, they have a good variety to choose from, and I do love Tim's chips. Maybe I'll try a plain bagel next time and something different. For the price I was expecting more, maybe a little larger and more tuna. Just a side note. We went to old town to have a burrito and our favorite restaurant had just closed their doors for good the day before after 30 years in business, very sad. We all have our favorite restaurants, and we all need to get out there and support them, that is the fourth restaurant I enjoyed dining at that has closed in the last year. This is a very tough time for the small, independent restaurants, please make it a point to enjoy their menu or you may soon loose that opportunity. read more
