I visited Sourland Cycles on May 23rd to have my daughter's bike serviced after it had been sitting unused for several years. After taking a close look, the team explained that the bike had not been assembled properly originally and that completely disassembling and rebuilding it likely wouldn't be worth the cost. Instead of simply sending us away, the staff at Sourland Cycles went above and beyond. They made all the necessary adjustments right there while I waited, got the bike riding safely again, and then told me not to worry about the cost. Service, care, and genuine kindness can be hard to find these days, but the team at Sourland Cycles demonstrated all three. Their honesty, generosity, and willingness to help left a lasting impression on me. I purchased a Lake CX302 shoe at Sourland Cycles. Every time that I rode my bicycle, for several days afterward, the upper surface of my toes would be inflamed, swollen and painful. I tried adjusting the tightness of the Boas, different socks and repositioning the cleat. Nothing helped. I discovered a raised seam inside the shoe that was causing the irritation. I returned to Sourland Cycles to explain my problem. Sam reassured me that they would either give me a full refund or exchange the shoe. I was able to exchange the shoe for a Lake CX242. This is a somewhat more expensive shoe that was exchanged at no additional cost to me. It is a great shoe with which I am able to ride without any discomfort. This store stands behind what they sell and provides excellent service. I highly recommend Sourland Cycles. read more

I had been shopping and researching for a road bike for about 4 months. Then Corona happened. I had visited various apps, online pages and stores. The stores are all in central jersey. The stores I came across many stores in middlesex - NJ area. Everyone sales and owner were rushing me to buy the bike. I looked at Cannondale, specialized and trek. However, Sourland bike store was different. Their sales Rep Mathias was very professional and kind. He was very patient with me. Although firm with his opinion. I appreciate it. But better to hear the customer. Any how- He is very knowledgeable and not pushy at all. While attending other people he accompanied and assisted me. The other staff members were also very pleasant and hospitable. Very happy with the entire experience. I would recommend this place and give them 4.5 or 5 five stars. Last year I took by bike to Sourland Cycles to have the mechanicals of my eBike serviced for Spring. Today I went back for essentially the same thing and was told that " Sorry, but we don't service eBikes that we don't sell." All they could tell me was that it was now company policy - what a bunch of cowards! A complete reversal of how I was treated last year for the same eBike. Interestingly enough, last night I was looking online to see what was new in eBikes since I bought my current bike in 2019. I can assure you that I will NOT be shopping at Sourland for my next eBike or any other bike! read more

Once again Sourland Cycles provided world class service. With a full Ironman literally four days away, their team (Sam, Alex, and Katie) took my bike in for a last minute tune up to make sure it was safe to ride. They completely aligned, tuned up, and repositioned it to my original fitting specs. With that said I was able to complete the entire 112 miles without an issue. Great bike shop and I am a repeat customer having purchased 2 bikes from them and had several bikes serviced here. I give them 5 stars in all areas except for one decision of theirs that rubs me the wrong way. I purchased a Blix e-bike here that now needs and adjustment and they are refusing to do the work since they no longer carry that brand. So now I must find another shop that has never even sold this brand before. I even chose this bike because of the proximity of the shop to my home and them assuring me how well they are made and that they service them. Beware if you are considering an e-bike purchase from them because they will only stand behind it while they are carrying that line. read more

My mother and I went to the shop today because she had seen the shop advertising a Wednesday evening women's ride, and that they carried the specialized insoles she was looking for. As soon as we walked into the shop we were greeted by Alex. The shop seemed busy so we began to mill around a little while we waited. Sam then came up to us an asked us what we were looking for and let my mom know where the insoles were. While looking at the insoles, conversation led into that my mom might be interested in another bike. He showed her some bikes, offered me some tips on possibly getting a new saddle since I said mine was so uncomfortable, and offered for her to test ride the bike she liked, he even let me test ride a bike so she didn't have to go alone. My mom fell in love with the bike and bought it!! I fell in love with the seat on the bike I test rode - and Alex swooped in to help me find something similar since the seat was exclusive to the bike. We had a wonderful experience and will certainly be returning to this shop!! Alex and Sam are the BEST !!! read more

I bought a new ladies Liv hybrid bike (baby blue, very cute) from Sourland Cycles. I was upgrading from my old Schwinn road bike. I was excited to make the shift from a leaning-forward type of bike to a sitting-back-and-relaxing type of bike. But I was sad to discover that in the first month of me biking around NYC (where I live) I started experiencing knee pain from riding. I asked around to a few guys at bike shops in New York to see what might be causing it -- was it the fact that it was an upright seat? That the weight distribution and angle was bad for my knees? They gave me some pointers, but didn't seem that invested in a solution. Then I called Mike from Sourland (the owner who sold me the bike) and asked him what to do and how to solve the issue. He had me describe what I was experiencing in detail and referred me to the bike fitter they had in store, Carrie. She called me the next day and talked through the issue with me, telling me exactly where my knee should be at different parts of my stroke. Mike also suggested that I move my seat forward so there was more weight on the handlebars. All of their suggestions worked and now I know exactly how to adjust my bike if I start experiencing knee pain. I was so impressed by and appreciative of their care and concern towards my problem, and the speed at which they got back to me to discuss it with me. In addition, the buying experience in-store was really awesome. Mike was wonderful and patient in allowing me to try out all different bikes and make sure I had exactly what I was envisioning. So I brought my bike in with a self-diagnosed leak in the rear disc brake line. I told the very nice gentleman who checked my bike to replace the line as just adding fluid and sealant would not fix it (and considering I had been riding the gravel bike with one brake for weeks because I didn't want to stop riding), I preferred they just change out the line so I wouldn't have to come back for the same issue considering service wait times (which is nobody's fault). I was called 6 days later (surprised with the quick just under 1 week turnaround) saying it was fixed and ready for pick up. I go in and test ride the bike upon pick up the following day (Friday) at 1p and the rear brake was about as soft as when I brought it in. The employee who returned my bike told me the rear brake has a longer travel than the front and that it was fine. I let the employee test it himself and he said yeah it's probably still leaking and bleeding kits they were using were inferior to the usual kits they get during normal times. He was apologetic and said somebody will stay late to fix it. I asked that they not attempt sealant as that is what was probably attempted the first time and if sealant held at all it would not stay sealed for long with the jarring my bike takes off road. Since the leak was a bit slow I completely understand it would not be caught until my test ride. I got no call back late Friday so I call back the next day at about 2p on Saturday and talk to someone who seemed very concerned with the issue (possibly the owner as he spoke to me with concern and urgency) and said he spoke to the mechanic and they are still working on it but would get it addressed. Tuesday at 2p I call for status update and a guy who was not the same person I talked to on Saturday made me explain my story again and says he will call me back later. I asked him if you can give me any update now I won't have to talk to you later. He abruptly says I don't have any update. So I am waiting for a call back and hopefully resolution on this. The leak after the attempted fix is nobody's fault and saved me a drive back to the shop, but how the shop addresses this issue of repairing it again and keeping me updated will give me a good idea of how this shop and it's employees work. 4 stars for now pending outcome as the man who checked me in and the one I talked to on Saturday seemed very good. read more

I wanted to get a new bike saddle for my Specialized road bike. Thought that I would have to order on-line because of the recent shortages of bikes/parts. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to Sourlands Cycling after reading about them on-line. I was impressed with the measurement ability to determine the right size and style, the conversation to determine the right type and the care taken to select several brands of saddles to try on the stationary bike in the store. I was getting confused and so we took a break, I rode my bike around the block to recalibrate and we tried the ones that I liked again. I left with the one that I found most comfortable, knowing that I could take it and try it out for 10 days...if it didn't work out we would try the next style. Sam was a very, very good salesperson, genuine care and asked good questions. Alex took over when he needed to take a previous appt. break and continued with the questioning. He returned afterwards to 'check-in,' and finish the process, suggesting that I take the one I liked the best and try it out. It was a GREAT experience and I would recommend them highly. After having a horrible buying experience at a dealer 3 miles from my home (They are in Bound Brook, NJ), I decided to cancel my order for 2 bikes, 1 Giant Hybrid and 1 Liv as well as some accessories and go to Sourland Cycles. Sourland Cycles is 35 miles from my home, worth the trip without question. Initially I spoke to Laura on the phone, which made me comfortable that this dealer offered much better customer service than my local dealer. We took the trip to Hopewell and met Adam (I hope I got your name right as we were never officially introduced) and Colin, they were very attentive and knowledgeable which meant a lot to us, having had such a horrible experience from the local dealer. We placed our order on Saturday and I received a call Tuesday evening that the bikes were in and assembled, ready to be picked up (nice touch, the previous dealer didn't call me a week after I placed my order, I called them, they said they would call me back and still haven't.) Yesterday, Wednesday I went to pick up our bikes, Adam greeted me and mentioned he raised the handlebars, because he remembered we liked to sit up a little more erect while riding, I really appreciated that extra attention. Mike gave us a couple water bottles as a thank you for the purchase, very nice touch and helped me load the bikes into my SUV. This was such a great buying experience and high level of customer service, that I/we will never go anywhere else for my/our cycling needs. Thank you all. We had a very unfortunate experience where the owner quoted a price for a tune up and fixing of a spoke but when we went to pick it up there he did not honor the price and instead charged 25% more. In contrast to our experience at other shops, this place is over priced and unfairly quotes service that is misleading, at best. Worst of all is the attitude of the owner when I inquired about the upcharge. I gave them a shot at my business given their proximate location, but will return to our prior bike shop for future service and purchases. read more

I've been riding for 30 years, and Sourland Cycles is *by far* the most helpful bike shop I've ever worked with. Mike (the owner) spent hours - literally - with me as I agonized over bike choices, and he was always cheerful and positive. Colin swapped stems (three times), made tons of tweaks, and gave great advice until I was perfectly satisfied. I've never enjoyed spending time in a bike shop as much as I did these past two weeks. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for sales or service; these guys are experienced, honest, helpful, and accommodating. I actually feel guilty about how much time these guys spent helping me.
