South Bay Door and Window installed a new front double door, and a garage entry door for me almost 10 years ago. Last year, my deadbolt lock broke, and Steve (owner) replaced it. This week, the door knob on the garage entry door appeared to be broken. It was loose, and felt like it was going to pull off. I called, and spoke to a woman (did not get her name). I described the situation and sent her a short video showing the problem. She told me I just needed to tighten the Allen screw on the bottom of the knob. I found the right size Allen wrench, and had it tightened in seconds. They are really nice, and stand behind their work. I highly recommend them! read more

I had an interior pocket door that had come off its rail and couldn't figure out a way to rehang it. According to the "experts" on the Internet, I had to take off the door trim to fix it. Finding this hard to believe, I visited South Bay Door & Window to see if they could offer some expert advice. Steve and his team just wrapped up a French door install in our home and I'm so happy with the product and service! We bought a new (old) house in April and knew right away one of our doors would have to be replaced. Steve makes the process really easy. We chatted over the phone about what we were looking for. Steve had us send photos from various angles so that he had an idea of what the project would entail. Within a day or two, Steve came out for a quick in person inspection and we had our doors ordered. We were given pricing for sliders and french doors, and never upsold for the more expensive item. I was ready to give them 5 stars and rant and rave because the door is absolutely beautiful and exactly what I needed....BUT - they left it raw and the frame needs to be spackled and painted as well (it's tricky bc the door has windows in it and they need to be cleaned up and covered, etc). i've asked some different painters if they would come out to do it and they said that the job is too small. I called South Bay Door & Window if they could recommend anyone and they said no. No? Aren't they in the business??? When I expressed frustration because we couldn't find anyone, they just hung up. I live in Manhattan Beach and was frustrated with the overpriced window companies that quoted us for replacement of 7 windows and a large sliding glass door. I went to Southbay Door and Window and Steve gave a very reasonable quote. He and his crew installed the windows/sliding glass door in a day. They had to lift the windows up and over the balcony to get them to our second floor. They did an impeccable job installing and then finishing the windows. The price was a third of Anderson and other companies and their attention to detail and quality product did not disappoint. This may be the most complimentary review for one who hasn't done business with South Bay Door & Window. Living close to the beach, we saw a progressive deterioration of all our west facing Andersen windows, and thought we needed to have them all replaced. Having read all the wonderful reviews about South Bay Door & Window, this was the perfect place to begin. After speaking with Marci one of the owners, who was very nice, in the morning, we stopped by in the afternoon to meet with Steve the co-owner. We brought in photos as requested as well as measurements of our windows. After a brief discussion and seeing the product they offered, it was mutually decided that Steve should come by the house to do a consultation and evaluation. He courteously called the next day to let us know he was running a few minutes late (appreciated). We showed him the worst of the windows. After examining these windows, he told us what he would do if this were his home. Imagine our shock and surprise when he said, in his professional opinion, that we really didn't need to replace the windows, but should instead .... He felt repairing them and having a painter handle the trim would suffice. We could not believe his honesty and integrity, and essentially not have our business. Steve felt new windows with the cost and installation would not look as good as doing some repair work on our original ones. Steve also looked at two doors we wanted evaluated, and gave us more conservative recommendations. We thanked him profusely for his candor and veracity. So I've decided to write him this complimentary review. This is the type of owner /business any of us would like to work with. First...Steve immediately contacted me after I sent in the request and came to the house. He went over all my options (I was replacing french doors). The day we scheduled for installation was expected rain. He said we might have to postpone...but I explained that the hardware mechanisms had gotten worse and I really needed the new door asap. So..they showed up on the one day of the year it is raining like crazy. Then... I'm not kidding...the electricity goes out. So now...the guys are working in the pouring rain and in the dark because there is no electricity. I even loaned them my little hacksaw because they couldn't use the electric one they brought. Wow. Professional, dedicated and thoughtful. Plus...I should mention all the little added things they did to protect the floor and to keep the rain from ruining their work. DO NOT USE SOUTH BAY DOOR & WINDOW. Robert is a nice guy. Unfortunately, Steve is not a man of his word and they do not communicate very well within the company. They do not tell you that they do not make the doors themselves. They use one company to make the frame and another company to make the door. The company that made the frame did not make it strong enough to support the weight of the door - so the door would not close after installation. Not only did I pay THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for a custom door, but it is necessary that it functions. It was a huge security risk. I had to meet the customer service guy from THE MANUFACTURER - NOT SOUTH BAY - in order to show them what was wrong. Then they had to get approval to come & take the door. Security risk. Then we had to wait months for them to fix the door and bring it back. THE DOOR STILL DID NOT FUNCTION. They told me the only option was to seal the sidelights (which was the only reason that I bought a custom door in the first place). I said that was not at all what I wanted and that it was ridiculous to pay that much for a custom door that was no longer custom. I asked for a partial refund to accept the now sealed door that still might not work. Robert said the refund had to come from TM COBB directly - I VERY CLEARLY EXPLAINED TO ROBERT THAT I WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE DOOR BEFORE I RECEIVED THE REFUND. At this point it had been close to 6 months since I had ordered the door. I had taken off work numerous days to meet several different contractors to try & fix the door. They were supposed to bring the door back WITH THE REFUND check, otherwise I told Robert that I would not accept the door and would be done with the whole thing. We had a 9 am appointment. The delivery man called to tell me he would be late (again) and when I asked about the check he said he had no idea what I was talking about. I stated AGAIN that I would not accept the door without a refund & that I was done. If they couldn't get me the refund AS PROMISED that I would like the full refund as discussed the day prior with Robert. It is now two years later. I had to buy a door from someone else and I still have no refund. read more

After the installation there was a bit of a mess left behind. I mentioned this to Steve and he made it right. About a year later we got some heavy rains and there was some leaking from the door. I ordered all new solid interior doors to replace the original hollow core ones and a new front door from South Bay Door and window. Robert and Steve were super helpful and helped pick a nice shaker door style at an affordable price. The hardware was also ordered and matched perfectly. At one point I was short some screws from the manufacturer (oil rubbed bronze); Steve got me replacement screws within a day at no charge. Customer service was great!
