Overall the qualities of the material are as expected however installation workmanship was sub-standard and warranty follow up was non-existent. Although we had purchased a new shower head assembly, the installer did not check the dimensions and the result was we were unable to use the desired fixture. Instead of checking dimensions, he installed it at 'standard' height. After 3 months, a leak developed under the new sink. It turns out the installer used plumbers putty instead of the proper parts to address a change from a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" dimension drain line. The warranty item was called in but response time was in excess of 2 weeks and then there was no confirmation call to set the time of day as was promised. I ended up repairing the leak myself and South Bay refused to even reimburse me for the $5 drain extension. Its the old story of once they have your money, the contractor disappears. read more

Actually I'd give this 3-1/2 stars. In all I was satisfied with the end result. The communication between the parties could have been MUCH better. The person who came to give me the estimate should have made note of the fact that one wall was concrete block. When the demolition guy came, he didn't have a tarp to hang up to keep the dust down and needed to run to home depot to rent equipment because apparently he didn't get the message about the concrete block wall. Then when the guys came to do the installation, they didn't know that there needed to be mortar or something added because the guy doing the demolition left a lot of the old concrete or mortar up, not wanting to chip at the concrete block wall. So the installer also needed to leave to get mortar. (I had even notified the office that they needed to do something, took a picture of the wall and notified them that they would need two days to do the install. Apparently nothing got communicated to the installer PLUS they hadn't scheduled an additional day for the install.) A week later, they came to do the second part of the install, forgetting the toilet that I had ordered from the company. It took ANOTHER trip to get the toilet installed. Then there was a piece of trim that needed to be made that was measured TWICE but apparently the office didn't know anything about it and were only informed when they called me to tell me it was time to make the final payment. So, then they came back to measure the piece and install the trim piece. Anyway, this process could have been a lot smoother, less stressful and faster if the people involved had communicated among themselves. Also, and this is a rather major gripe, apparently because of the concrete block along the side, when they installed the corner soapdish they put a screw in to hold it up. He had to put it in sideways rather than diagonally, which caused a 14"+ gap between the panels to appear. Since this is WHITE it is rather obvious. One of the reasons I got cultured marble was because I didn't want ugly seams, grout lines and LO and behold, I have one now! The people in the office wouldn't give me a discount even PLUS the initial quote didn't mention sheetrock so they tried to add $180 to the price of the quote (my other contractor ended up doing 34 of the sheetrock because the demolition was a bit sloppy and they would have had to come back even more times for mudding and taping). Everyone was extremely pleasant, however. The office person tried to 'give me a great deal' on a shower enclosure, but she essentially gave me the price that they normally sell the shower enclosure for (I had actually asked the price from another sales person in the San Carlos office) One thing I WOULD do if I were going to do this again is to get my own demolition person. I got charged $1400 for 6 man hours (plus a dump run and possibly tool rental although I'm not sure what they rented). It would save a lot of money to get someone with a dremel or sawzall to cut the old product off. read more

I needed my bathroom vanity replaced because it was 1 big open space under the sink. There were no drawers to put stuff in so it was very inefficient. I bought a faucet and sink and brought them to South Bay Marble so they can put the right size holes on the counter. Jean helped me with the order. Robert measured my old vanity to ensure we ordered the correct size. He was super nice, knowledgeable, and made sure it was finished seamlessly after installation. South Bay Marble is one of the best bathroom contractors on the peninsula. They manufacture, deliver, and install: vanity tops, cabinets, fixtures, marble walls, faucets, tubs, shower surrounds, world pool systems, mirrors, floors, handheld sprayers, Todo toilets, and shower doors. We got a couple vanity tops from them 11 years ago. They have been and continue to be a marbling example of perfection, craftsmanship, and worksmanship, lasting a long time with the installation being flawless, performed by friendly, knowledgeable installers. Just recently, we had an alpine vanity top installed in our downstairs bathroom. Needless to say, all of these attributes about the company, its products, and its employees are still the same. Bruce was nice in showing us samples and accurately measuring our bathroom, warning us that the new top could not be brought out as far as the other one. Gene, the scheduling manager, was very prompt in calling us to schedule the installation. For $1400, we definitely got our money's worth. They have who I assume is their own in-house plumber which would have been $100 or $175.00 extra which is not bad; talk about "killing two birds with one stone!" So, for quality marble products, as well as the rest of your bathroom needs at reasonable prices with friendly, knowledgeable service, South Bay Marble cannot be beat. i recently had south bay marble do some work in my bathroom. the estimator, "roger" came out on time and had a couple of suggestions that were helpful. as i work, i had to pay someone to stay at my house while the installers came to do their work. the "first" installer came and got the walls up and they looked good. we then found out that the shower door installer would come later in the day. nobody told me that there would be two visits by installers. i was told that the door person would be there between two and four. at 4:20, i called my contractor and told them that nobody had arrived. we were then told that the door installer was stuck in traffic and was on his way to get the door.that was the last we heard that day. i call the next morning and am told that the door installer was loading up the doors and would be there within 40 minutes. i again had to pay someone to sit at my house. the woman that answers the phone told me that the installer didn't call her to let her know he wouldn't make it as he was stuck in traffic. a short time later the installer shows up and guess what? the doors were the the wrong size. eventually the installer got back to my house and the job was done. not a very well organized company in my opinion and would not use them again. read more
