The referees either don't care or slow the game down with excessive calls and power trips. On top of all this the cost to play has been increasing. None of that extra cost seems to go towards improving the player experience. The only redeeming aspect is Mike, the guy who works the front office, he's respectful and does his best to help to keep everything smooth. Work towards improving the player experience and maybe you won't have trouble keeping quality players on the field.

The NHL's Los Angeles Kings appeared on 02/22/26 Sunday midday around 10am-12 noon for practice and the public viewing was free too! That's always a bonus pleasant surprise.

The champions' names are cemented into the fabled Walk of Fame. There is a 32 team Main Draw and a prize purse of $300,000. General Admission is free but you can purchase Club AVP and Premium Club AVP which includes breakfast, lunch, and one drink as well as a shaded area. They seem to oversell these areas - at the peak hours of 12-3pm there is standing room only. There is an unshaded bleacher area in the Club areas as well. Free admission is for the outer courts and one section of the grandstand near the main Stadium court. However, during the event, there is a very long line to re-enter the grandstand so essentially you have to stay there once you snag a seat. There are also $$$$ cabanas, courtside boxes and the deck. There are sponsor booths giving away samples of sunscreen, water, and electrolyte drinks. There are also a couple of booths selling AVP clothing items and swim wear. Beware, it can get hot so wear sunscreen and a hat, or plan on forking out $250-300 for a Club pass. Another benefit of the club passes (besides shade) is that you can easily leave and re-enter the club area without standing in a line. Bathrooms are porta potties near the entrance of the venue. You will witness the best beach volleyball in the world. These talented athletes are thrilling to watch and very easy on the eyes! :) I attend every year, as I am an avid beach volleyball player. If you are only going to attend one AVP event, this is the one not to miss!

My son attended the summer camp/day program only and was not enrolled as a regular martial arts student. I enrolled my son hoping for a fun, safe, and well-supervised summer experience. Unfortunately, that was not our experience, and I would not enroll him again. The camp often felt disorganized and seemed to operate without much advance planning. Activities appeared to change from day to day, and there was little evidence of a structured program. The first warning sign came during my son's first week. After only a few days, he came home, burst into tears, sobbed in my arms for more than ten minutes, and begged me not to make him return. He described the environment as "overwhelming" and "overstimulating" because of the constant screaming, yelling, and disruptive behavior from some campers. Those concerns continued throughout the summer. To be clear, I understand children sometimes struggle with emotional regulation and behavior. My concern is not that children are expected to be perfect. My concern is that I expect adults supervising a children's camp to appropriately manage disruptive or aggressive behavior, protect all campers, and provide an environment where children feel safe. Based on both what I observed and what my son consistently reported, I did not feel that happened. For example, my son reported that one camper became upset during a game, ran at him while screaming, and grabbed at his clothing. He also reported this was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of repeated screaming, tantrums, and disruptive behavior from this camper and another camper that made him increasingly uncomfortable attending camp. My biggest concerns, however, involved supervision and safety outside the dojo. My son reported that counselors took campers on neighborhood "ninja walks" and encouraged them to practice parkour on nearby structures, including climbing a structural wall at a neighboring apartment complex using decorative rocks as footholds. He also reported a counselor challenged the children about who was "brave enough" to jump from what he estimated was a very high wall into an enclosed area below. My son declined to participate because he felt uncomfortable and became so distressed that he cried. What surprised me most was that I was never informed campers would routinely leave the dojo for these neighborhood activities. Nothing in the written materials or waiver explained that campers would be practicing parkour throughout the surrounding neighborhood. The paperwork states parents would receive advance notice of field trips. In my opinion, taking campers outside the dojo and throughout the neighborhood constitutes an off-site activity that parents should be informed about beforehand. When I later spoke with the camp director, she confirmed that these neighborhood "ninja walks" are a regular part of camp and stated they have permission from neighboring property owners to use parking lots, areas between buildings, and other structures. That was the first time I had heard that explanation. She also said part of the camp's philosophy is "stretching the kids to their limits." While I support helping children build confidence and resilience, I believe those challenges should occur in a carefully supervised environment with clear communication to parents. I also had concerns about security. During the entire camp session, I was never asked to show identification when picking up my son. On multiple occasions, counselors were on their phones when I entered the dojo and did not even look up to acknowledge who had come through the door. The surrounding neighborhood also concerned me. During drop-off and pick-up, I observed several individuals who appeared homeless and/or intoxicated. One individual in particular was dirty, disheveled, and wearing torn, soiled clothing. I watched him stand outside the dojo for several minutes with his face pressed against the glass doors and his hands cupped around his eyes so he could look inside and watch the children. Learning that campers were routinely taken on walks through this same neighborhood only increased my concern. When I discussed these issues with the director, I did not feel my concerns about supervision, behavior management, communication with parents, or safety were meaningfully addressed. Every family has different expectations, and some children may have a wonderful experience here. This review simply reflects ours. I was looking for a camp with consistent supervision, proactive communication, thoughtful behavior management, and strong safety practices. Based on what I personally observed and what my son consistently reported, I do not feel this summer camp met those expectations, and I would not enroll him again.

This is an incredibly well organized and successful swim team. The coaches are top notch. They care about improving the skills of every student. There is no question as to why they continue to win league championships time after time. They have not only helped my son become a great athlete, but a more well-rounded individual. The families of the swim students get very involved and are really friendly. Practices were often disrupted by ongoing behavioral issues that were not effectively addressed, taking valuable training time away from the kids who were there to learn and improve. Concerns about inappropriate comments and physical behavior between players were another major red flag. Youth sports are expensive, and families deserve organization, accountability, and leadership. Many clubs are just girls, and I only know of 1 boys only team. I have a son in the Beach Cities Volleyball Club which is both a boys and girls club. This review is for the indoor Beach Cities Volleyball Club (BCVC) BOYS program. My son is starting his third season with his third coach. My son has played against and attended some camps of the other clubs in the region, and this is a quick list of BCVC strengths. 1. No other club comes anywhere near offering as much playing opportunities when including practices, camps, and clinics. 2. BCVC is by far the best value when looking a minute of court time to price. 3. Girls and boys sometimes practice at the same time, or even coed. If you are looking to create relaxed social opportunities this can be a big positive. 4. It is a non profit organization, which means you are participating in a community building organization. In all the organized team sports I have been involved in, the atmosphere the coach brings to the team is so important. In club volleyball the season is long (Sept-June), so it can be even more important. When looking around the web sites, the coaches will list their CV's. I have found that they don't always relate to bringing joy and camaraderie to the kids practice after practice. You have to see the chemistry with your son and the coach that will coach your team at the tryouts. Christian Cammayo pretty much runs the boys side of the program, and has really increased the usability of the beachcitiesvbc.com website, so it is much more useful now. The one con of the Beach Cities Club Boys (I am not familiar with the girls) vs some of the others is visibility to colleges, but this summer (2021) Christian has added a new college program with many features. I am looking forward to see how this works out. Boys volleyball is a great game that has many moments of joy in each set of each match for both sides of the court. Where ever your volleyball adventure takes you, remember the parents cheer and coaches coach.

Our youngest daughter wanted to start with her older sister and ended up playing 9 years with Sunshine. She was more than prepared for high school volleyball and college (D1) volleyball. And she's 5' 5", so short girls play volleyball too. Sunshine is run by Cari and Lou Ann who between them have decades of experience growing this Club to the highest levels. They have trusting relationships with college coaches. The Sunshine coaches stay and provide consistency and confidence in the program. The girls truly LEARN the sport. There all levels of teams for every age group. They have a college recruitment coordinator. The training is the best! I loved how their practices were augmented by the plyos training on the beach. They travel all over the US for best tournaments and teams compete against the top teams in the country. And because of all of the togetherness and travel, the relationships formed between the girls are amazing and wonderful and lifelong. My daughter is a Junior in college and she still hangs tough with her Sunshine teammates when she comes home on breaks. And as close as the girls are, the parents' "meetings" are legendary. I remember wondering whose party is this really? One last thing- the uniforms!! Unquestionably the best in the country! O.K. Not that important, but still. As a single father, every decision I make for my daughter is calculated. I don't have unlimited resources, and opportunities like this are not something we take lightly. My daughter is an independent studies student who also takes physical education as part of her school curriculum. We made the conscious decision to pull her out of her scheduled school day -- time she would have otherwise spent with her peers in a real PE class -- to attend this 1:30 PM session at the time Saskia said worked for her. That sacrifice meant something to us. When we arrived, I had to be the one to ask what the session even was -- a consultation, an assessment, actual training? Only then did Saskia reveal her $120/hour rate. Had I not asked, she would have proceeded and I would have owed $120 for a session whose cost was never disclosed at any point during our entire conversation. What hurt most was watching my daughter walk away from that interaction with her emotions dismissed and no acknowledgment of what we gave up to be there. No sympathy. No accountability. Just a rate dropped on us at the door like our time had no value. As a single dad doing everything I can to give my daughter the same opportunities other kids have, that stings deeply. I could not be more thrilled of this instructor who took the time to get to know my daughter on a personal level and make her feel comfortable and silly but also know how to change tunes and when to focus. Flight school was a very clean gym, clean bathrooms, ladies at the desk were very friendly. You can tell the students who are currently enrolled at this gymnasium have been there a long time and truly love what they do at this facility. Thank you flight school!

To make matters worse, the website was confusing, and when I registered, I genuinely believed the price was half of what it actually was. By the time I realized the mistake, the classes had already ended. I have since found a private instructor who charges less while providing far more personalized instruction. Overall, I was very disappointed with the experience and would not recommend this program to other families.
