Massive sculptural sea stacks rise along the shoreline, rugged and dramatic. The beach is strewn with driftwood, some pieces arranged so naturally they feel like art instillations. Its name comes from the subtle reddish mineral flecks in the sand, which glow beautifully when the sun hits them. We loved exploring this area, and it's absolutely a must-stop if you're anywhere near Forks. Vault restrooms are available just off the parking lot; they're basic and don't have running water. Because this beach is part of Olympic National Park, you'll need to pay the daily entrance fee or better yet, grab an America the Beautiful Pass for access to all national parks. I wouldn't recommend walking barefoot or swimming here. The water stays around 45-55°F year-round, the waves are powerful, and the surf can be unpredictable. This is a place to admire, wander, and soak in the wild beauty of the coast.

The hike to the beach is around 0.7 miles one way. There are a lot of switch back stairs through a forest that lead down to a coastline. There are three parking lots that you can park at just outside of the town of La Push. The closest lot doesn't hold a lot of cars, but the overflow lots have more room to park if you don't mind walking a little ways to the beach. Second Beach is usually partially enshrouded with fog. It was also a little chilly at the beach for late summer. But overall I enjoyed my stroll to this beautiful beach.

The parking lot starts about a mile trail through picturesque forests to the beach. The trail is beautiful with lots of ferns and other plants to see. When you pop out on the beach you are amazed by the view. The beach is large with so much to explore. You can easily spend an afternoon here so bring a lunch and stay awhile.

Lake Quinault is located at the southern edge of Olympic National within Quinault Valley. The lake has a surface area of approximately 3,550 acres (5.83 square miles) and receives 131 inches of precipitation per year. If you want to explore this area in depth, you can take the 30-mile scenic loop drive around the lake. There is both hiking and fishing at the lake with a permit. You can also camp at some nearby places. I was able to get a hotel at Rain Forest Resort Village. It is within walking distance of Lake Quinault and offers a balcony view of the lake from your room. I enjoyed watching both the sunset and sunrise while I was here. The calm waters with the reflection of the low clouds made it such a picturesque lake. I highly recommend checking out the Quinault Rain Forest and many of the nature trails around here. Near the lake is a short trail to the World's Largest Sitka Spruce. Lake Quinault is owned by the Quinault Indian Nation.

I got a little emotional as I recalled them being so small, and cut to now, how fast time flew. Their memories of this place were so fond. We checked off a bucket list item though- we told ourselves that the next time we come back, we'd have a bonfire on the beach and that's exactly what we did! We stayed out until 11 at night on the beach and it was pretty dark! Core memories made. We will definitely return and it won't be in 10 years, more like 2. We love you, Kalaloch!!!

A park ranger is on hand to answer any questions that you may have. Kalaloch and Ruby Beach are located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula right off the 101. This is one of the most visited areas of Olympic National Park. Kalaloch Campground is one of the only places for camping on the southern coast of Olympic National Park. There are over 170 campsites that have a picnic table and fire ring. Make sure you reserve early as they fill up quick during the summer season. Kalaloch Lodge is also located right by the beach and has rooms and cabins available. Kalaloch Beach is a great place for tidepooling and bird watching. I enjoyed a short stay here. I was able to walk on the beach and take in some fresh air after being in the car all day. Nearby is the Tree of Life spruce tree if you want to check that out. Just follow the Kalaloch Beach Nature Trail from the Kalaloch Campground parking lot. Once you are on the beach, it is a short walk away.

The women's washroom had no soap for at least two days and the men's was running out of TP when we left. The shower could definitely use updating since you couldn't aim the shower head and the room should have been cleaned more often. The tent campsites across from us were tiny compared to other campgrounds. You have to park your car in the space allowed leaving not enough of room for a large tent, but most of the tent campers were couples with smaller tents. We rented the two yurts for 4 nights. The site for each yurt is quite large since it looked like the site formally was for 2 tent sites. They have a single outlet and a heater. The mattress pads were a joke and thankfully we brought a blow up mattress just in case. The yurt was much smaller than the cabins at other Washington State campgrounds so we had to organize kitchen utensils, etc. on the floor. The yurts have a bunkbed, twin on top and full lower. Our yurt had no ladder to get to the top, but our daughter's family's did have a ladder. (They didn't have blow up mattresses and I don't know how they managed to sleep. Our daughter did say she had bruises because the mattress sunk to the boards underneath.) Would we go back? Well, if it's just my wife and I, then we'd find a nice rental (and admittedly pay a lot more).

No working GPS or signal, and I had only booked this place on Expedia prior to my trip, since everything in Forks was fully booked. But let me just say... I ended up LOVING it! The cabin was spotless, cozy, and had everything I could possibly need... Fireplace, WiFi, kitchenette, fridge, TV... you name it! I especially loved all the windows that let in tons of natural light, and the porch out front was such a nice touch. The staff at the office were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They even offered me an upgrade for just $15, which I really appreciated. The location itself was absolutely stunning... Surrounded by mountains and overlooking a beautiful lake, it felt like the perfect escape. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway, this cabin is it. I was not disappointed in the slightest and honestly can't wait to come back. Thank you for such a wonderful experience! Washington is truly a beautiful state and staying here just solidified my opinion.

After exploring two National Parks and…read morebeing in and out of different hotels all week, this was a nice relaxing place to stay at to finish up my trip to Washington. Rain Forest Resort Village has fireplace cabins and suites, Village Inn rooms and a RV Campground. They gave me a room with a balcony that had a gorgeous view of Lake Quinault. I enjoyed waking up to the sunset over the lake. The room was nice and cozy and the bed was very comfortable. Next to the front desk at Rain Forest Resort Village is a small general store that has pretty much anything you may need. There is also a gift shop and laundromat. The staff here is great and very welcoming. They pointed out a couple of hiking trails for me to do that were nearby. I was able to do the Quinault Rain Forest hike and the short hike to the World's Largest Spruce Tree near the lake. Lake Quinault and the Salmon House Restaurant are across the street from Rain Forest Resort Village. The downtown area of Quinault is just a short drive away. Merriman Falls isn't too far away either if you want to check that out. Overall, my stay here was wonderful and relaxing. You can't beat the gorgeous views of Lake Quinault from your room.

It looked so beautiful in the sunny weather that Jaric and I were speechless throughout the drive. Lots of parking, yes! But, u need to go to the visitor center first to get a $10 day pass so that you can hang the lime green paper on your car rear view mirror. Nice to take pictures, but I hate that there was no seating arrangement to picnic and there was no area to comfortably lay on so that you can sunbathe. I was really :( about that because I wanted Jaric and I to spend more time together at the beach. The moss on the rocks was such a sight and made it more pop in color with our pictures. I wish that I could max out my star rating for this beach because my eyes were in awe, but really could not spend a long time here with how difficult it was to comfortably stay outside without designated seating areas :(

The number of great beaches in this area of the state is pretty impressive! They're never the white…read moresand beach in the Caribbean, but rather the rugged, rock Beach with loads of driftwood and places to explore. This one is literally about 10 miles down the main road and opens into a couple of large parking lots with the beach just beyond. You have to climb over layers of driftwood to get to the rock part of the beach, followed by the sand part. It means that there's always something to explore and do here! Our kids did everything from playing in the water to build forts, to you sticks like a baseball bat and golf club to hit rocks into the water. It was pretty phenomenal to watch everybody exploring and playing while the sun went down over some beautiful rocks out in the water. When the tide is down, the tide pools are pretty fantastic and there's a ton of stuff to explore out in the water. The walk down to the eye of the needle is definitely worth it, and is something you should do earlier in the day as it does tend to get fairly dark fairly quickly. Check the tide schedules and plan accordingly. If you're over in the area, this is one of those places you need to go at least once, and will probably go again the next time you visit.

The layout of this campground consists of four loops. A, B, C, D, and each loop has a numbered sites. Each campsite has a table and a fire ring. Park your car correctly and you can ensure to make your spot more private. Under a canopy of trees which are beautiful. The bathroom has running toilets and is well lit. Making nighttime walks to the bathroom less scary, lol. The camp host came over to introduce herself and warn about the crows. Apparently they were rampant and able to attack and tear up campsites if you leave anything out. A very quiet area and super close to Rialto Beach. Which I would not recommend walking to as there is no trail and you'd have to walk on the road. A great central location to explore the Olympic Peninsula. Very nice spot to get back into camping. The drive on the beach turns towards the left. Went quite a ways down with cars lines up. Lots of kites and picnics. Sand seemed pretty packed down, which made the drive great! The beach was clean, and the fresh air was nice. You can also hike to the left, and it was peaceful and not as busy. The entrance also has parking, porta-potty, and one garbage can outside of the porta-potty. The upkeep on the porta-potty needs to be updated. It's disgusting, and the beach is such a nice location. I'm giving a five-star since this beach brings all the amazing PNW to one location. Beautiful bluffs, green landscape, and the amazing beach....Just wait until the next town to go to the bathroom. We will be returning again soon.

The most expansive beach I've ever been on. Think: sand for miles, with miles of depth and not a…read moreton of people. It filled my hopes that there's still parts of the earth that are untouched and yet to be hit by consumerism or tourism. We could drive straight on to the sand which was surreal, and even got to go clamming. In the evening (low tide) people come from all over the state to try their hand at clamming. Tip: you need to get a clam license beforehand and that will limit the amount of clams you can snag from the beach (you also bring your own equipment). The sunset is gorgeous, as it reflects on the puddles of water on the beach. Highly recommend.

What's really nice is that you can reserve campsites on their website so that you don't have to stress about getting in early to try to snag a good one. Both times we were able to get one with a view of the lake which was exquisite, though the sites close to the water were all booked up for the summer. The campground is in a loop making it easy to find your campsite. There are two bathrooms, a larger one near the water and another near the entrance both cleaned daily. The campsites are not very large and really only had enough space for one large or two smaller tents depending on the specific site. There is a nice fire pit in each and a picnic table. There's also lots of tree branches lying around which are perfect to help start a fire. The lake itself is really gorgeous and ideal for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. It's really a serene spot and lovely location to spend a summer weekend.
