Seeing a place like this in Clarendon, I immediately thought it would be overpriced, pretentious and ultimately, under-deliver. Quite the opposite. The menu is simple but both wraps I've had here have been not just sufficient, but filling and delicious. The smoothies are also varied, and you can appreciate the healthy ingredients in each one. The food is out quick, making this a perfect neighborhood lunch spot. Seating is extremely limited, so this is more of a pick-up place. South Block's simple concept is being executed with aplomb. This small cafe, full of quick & healthy treats, is a great stop! I'm addicted to their acai bowls and appreciate the small touches around the cafe, such as chia seeds to sprinkle on smoothies/bowls and pre-packaged granola & juices. I can be a bit of a smoothie snob (there is a HUGE difference between "smoothies" at chain places full of frozen sugary fake-fruit concentrate and smoothies made from wholesome, real ingredients) and South Block Cafe definitely garners my complete approval! This place is prob the most popular South Block location. The staff is very friendly and works fast even though the line never stops coming. They made a good amount of acai bowl bass and gave us alot of granola (i love it) and fruit. Cali bowl is my fave and have to get it 2-3 times a weeks and would never get tired of it read more

After a great workout at nearby Revolve we popped in here for a healthy meal/drink. It's a tiny space with plenty of light. I checked in on foursquare and learned we could get a free hot or iced coffee. My friend wanted coffee so this worked out. She ordered a Warrior Bowl and I ordered the Guava Breeze smoothie. We weren't just getting free coffee and leaving. The cashier could not have been more annoyed with seeing our faces and wasn't interested in upselling anything to us. She quickly told me my total after I ordered the coffee and smoothie when I had to stop her and say my friend was ordering and it would be on one check. (whoa, calm down there little miss sunshine..) My smoothie came out pretty fast and my friend's Warrior Bowl took a few minutes. She said she enjoyed it but had to eat it after we got home. I've been coming to South Block for about 2 years now--ever since I started working a block away from this location. I'm obsessed with their Lyon Chipotle Burrito(they may have re-named it since then?). It's a pseudo-healthy burrito with quinoa, a spicy chipotle sauce, spinach, cheese and tomatoes. For a healthier visit, the PBJ acai bowl is awesome. Depending who is making it, it can sometimes be too watery or you might get frozen chunks of some acai ice substance...but when it's made well, this is a DELICIOUS breakfast! It might not look like much but it's super filling, do not worry. Their juices are overpriced--I'd recommend going to Whole Foods a block away to get your fresh pressed juice fix for $1-3 less than South Block. read more

Just went to South Block for the first time and it was indeed a treat. I decided to try it out for a change since I'm ALWAYS heading to Whole Foods for lunch. But since I saw a $2 Groupon for South Block, I decided to try it. Needless to say I will be returning to South Block. The gentleman who serviced me was very nice. The Groupon deal was for a $2 latte or hot chocolate, but I thought it included the smoothies also. But he still gave me the smoothie for $2 anyways!! That was already a PLUS for me. What more do you want from a juicery? Cold pressed and delicious juices? They have 'em. I've had their juices one at a time before, but this week I decided to do two cleanses. With a day of healthy eating in between. The juices tastes really good. I have a juicer at home and the juice quality from South Block is just as good if not better than my masticating juicer (which takes forever to juice and a pain to clean so I prefer to buy it if I don't have time). If you in the market for a cleanse or just want a pick me up of greens, stop in and grab some juice from them... you won't be disappointed. One caveat, the price is little high but they're really the only game around town. I have cold pressed juices in other cities that are just as good but charge less than $8 per juice (and less if you buy in bulk). But the considering the fact that they're organic, they're local, and the quality is so good, the price of $8.45 presents some value. read more

This place seems pretty cool and they have really unique/great tasting burritos. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because there was a legally blind lady came in with her seeing eye dog. She asked if there were any paper menus as she could read the menus if they are close up to her rather than on the wall. The cashier said no there aren't any paper menus but that it was online. That doesn't really help her when she's in line. I asked if they have a computer for the lady to look at the menu and they said only their i pad which was their cashier. I've been to this place before and their wraps are great. With that said, my latest experience was terrible and showed sloppy service. I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage (extra) and no cheese. The breakfast burrito should come with egg whites, avocado, roasted red potatoes, salsa, and cheese. My breakfast burrito came with sausage and egg (not even sure it was egg whites). Nothing else. Two small sausage patties and two egg patties and a wrap. I took the burrito home (a couple blocks) and when I saw it I noticed it was lacking 60% of the ingredients. I tried to call to see what happened but their phone goes straight to an advertising pitch for their juice cleanse and then voicemail. In the end, I paid $8 for essentially a dollar menu item at a fast food joint. After a sweatastic spin class with my friend K, we walked on over to South Block Cafe to check out their smoothies. I was looking for something protein packed and a good boost after my workout so I chose the green-a-colada. Okay so maybe the name itself was enticing. I'm a fan of green monster smoothies so this tasted great to me. There were some lumpy bits, but nothing I wasn't used to. This place is great for a quick, healthy breakfast/lunch meal. I went here after my morning run and ordered the breakfast burrito and the green-a-colada smoothie. It was delicious and just the right amount of food. The best part is that most of the food and smoothie choices are healthy options. There are many other things on the menu I hope to try in the future. The prices are all very reasonable. The inside is very small, but there is outside seating, which was great for cooling down after the run and enjoying the weather while eating the delicious food. I stopped here with my friend after a crazy hard spin class at Revolve. It is located on a corner around the block from Revolve and next to a spa. The establishment was clean and they offered a lot of options- including breakfast items served all day! As I had brunch reservations later, I decided on a smoothie with protein to aide in the post-spin class recovery. I got their banana squeeze with OJ, non fat vanilla froyo, bananas and whey protein. It was good and hit the spot. My friend was more daring and got a green-a-colada smoothie with kale. I was not a fan- I can't get on board with the green smoothies- but she liked it. They also have granola to top your own acai smoothie bowls, breakfast wraps and sandwiches. They also have little snacks you can purchase, like little power bites with nuts and dates (like min Lara bars). I like they offer non-dairy milk options, including coconut and almond milk! My girlfriend and I try to come every Saturday or Sunday morning as its a great way to start the day eating delicious and healthy as opposed to doing brunch somewhere and feelings bloated and setting up your day not so much healthy! Flavor over Service. South Block has grown in popularity over the years and haven't done anything to improve their speed. Just recently we went into the juice bar for their delicious drinks but we're greeted by a couple dozen people waiting for drinks. We decided to wait anyways post workout. For two drinks it took us 21 minutes to get our drink. If this business wants to continue to succeed they should remove a couple drinks and simplify their menu to get drinks out faster or hire more staff. Pretty good smoothies. I've been here a few times now, and each time I've had a positive experience. I've had the Super Green shake, which was surprisingly good. Also, as a FYI, you can add whey for free to this bad boy, making it even more healthy for ya. I've also gotten a King Kong, which wasn't the best peanut butter/chocolate smoothie I've ever had, but it tasted good and was probably the healthiest. These smoothies run a little expensive, especially for the small 16 oz size. For only a dollar more, you get 8 more ounces! It's a no-brainer. I've also come once for lunch, and ended up getting an 11th st. bbq burrito. It was...average. I'd skip the food and stick to the shakes here, because they do 'em right. read more

Hands down, best smoothie place I have ever been to. I did not even like smoothies until I had one here. I ordered the mango banana smoothie and my friend ordered the mango, banana, strawberry with performance boost. We both loved it! I also had the spinach feta wrap and it was not fantastic, but not horrible. At least it tasted light and healthy which is what I was going for. I do plan to come back and try more smoothies and food. Maybe some of the other food is better. Good customer service and love that you can sit outside - wish they had more comfortable chairs. Great smoothies, mega expensive! For a regular smoothie is $7. There are few that are great. I do not like the burner, it taste like straight orange juice. The protein peanut butter smoothie it delicious and like a dessert. A good after work out smoothie. The staff is very friendly. I will say though, in recent times, they have blended the smoothies too much and it becomes frothy. The breakfast burrito is not great. The egg whites are spongey and not fresh. I love coming to this place. Sadly I noticed today for the first time that not all the employees wear gloves when handling the bowls or food. I very clearly saw one of them grab a bowl with his bare hands and his fingers were inside the bowl. He touched whatever mix was inside because he clearly wiped his fingers on his shirt afterwards.
