After a BBQ lunch at nearby Texas Jack's BBQ, my friend and I walked over to Mocha Cafe & Pastry hoping to sit down for a while. A throwback to 2020 and 2021, you can't sit down. Everything is closed off with tables near the door for you to order and leave. Despite that, the worker was very friendly and asked if it was our first time. We ordered medium (drinks come in small, medium, and large) honey cinnamon lattes and enjoyed them. They weren't overly sweet.
New owner decided to close the inside sitting during; after covid and still to this date! They don't serve the quality food anymore! Inside the store is very dark, messy and unorganized; god knows how it is inside the kitchen! Pizza dough used is a-lot more thicker to reduce the toppings. Anytime you order they make you to wait 30-40 minutes due to high volume orders! But when you go to pickup, you are the only customer! Overall rating is well below average!!! Please see my photos
Oh man, I really wanted to LOVE this place but it fell short for me in the price / quality department. I ordered the Mixed Special Pizza and it was ok. It's a $20 slightly larger than personal size pizza and the flavors are fine. The crust is nice and eatable but not OMG this is so good or so unique I must take another bite. I'd give 3.5 stars for flavor but wouldn't pay that much for it again. Then I ordered the mortadella sandwich, because I freaken love mortadella, and this was surprisingly not good. Again, yes it was eatable but the mortadella here was thicker and more bologna like in texture than the Italian style mortadella I'm accustomed to. There is also a sauce that's a bit Thousand Island like and not a flavor I enjoy. The bread is ok but isn't salvaging the sandwich, overall I'd give it 3 stars. Lastly, we ordered dessert and coffee, taking full advantage of the bakery in the title and It doesn't appear they make these desserts at all. The baclava is not the best I've had, I'd give 1.5 stars and the Macarons have a NY company name on the box and were too expensive for what we got. Our coffees were good and that was the highlight of this trip. Overall our lunch with desserts for later ran is $85 and wasn't satisfying. If in the area I would return for a coffee. They are practicing COVID mitigation with no dine in option and you are stopped at the door for all orders and payments. Staff is friendly and helpful. Giving 3.5 starts for overall food experience.
This is a gem in Arlington ! I always get the Cobb salad and latte with soy milk. I request that they add chicken to it. The food is always fresh and tasty. I can always find a place to sit and a discreet place to talk to friends. The parking in the plaza (storefront) sucksx

This is the 2nd time in a row we visited this place during weekdays and the special pizza was all burnt and quite uneatable. We didn't check it at the store when picking it up and then noticed when opened the box at home :( There seems to be 2 cooks at this place one working during the week and the other over the weekend. Whenever we've visited over the weekend, everything was perfect and really one of our most favorite Pizzas around DC and Virginia area and I would give it a 5 star with no doubt. But the cook working during the week doesn't seem to care as much. It's like two totally different cafes.
If I could rate it more than 5 stars... I would!!! Persian pizza is so hard to find in the US and GOOD ones are even harder to find. This place makers the best Persian pizza!!! I highly recommend checking them out. The only thing is that they're a little pricy but it's definitely worth it!
I was really excited to see this place open; I can never have enough coffee and tea options in the area to study or bring a book. My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday. The parking lot is a disaster zone. There are very few spaces, and it's so narrow that it's hard to navigate past already parked cars. We found street parking right on Washington Blvd, but my husband had to wait for the light to turn red before he could open the door and get out. The cafe itself is tiny and cute. I love the decor; fancy chairs, and local art decorating the walls. The tables have a cute little cupcake candle in the center. I ordered the turkey pannini, and my husband ordered the reuben. Originally he wanted something else, but they were out of chicken, which seems a little odd. I ordered the honey tea latte as my drink, and my husband a mocha. I loved my sandwich and my tea. I could've sat and drank multiple cups of that tea. My husband's reuben was okay. The meat itself was perfect, but the bread wasn't completely toasted and eventually the sauce made the bread fall apart. We decided to get desert to go; I asked for two macaroons that ended up being pistachio and strawberry (they couldn't tell at first which pink macaroon was strawberry and which was red velvet) while my husband got a brownie. My macaroons were okay, but I got the feeling that they'd been frozen and thawed. All in all, I think they still have kinks to work out with being a new business, but that they have promise. I'd like to update my review in a couple months when they've got their mojo going.
Try their pour over coffee. It's quite a luscious taste with Indonesian beans. Get it "small" size for the full flavor. This item holds its own against the top coffee houses in Arlington (Cafe Afficionado in Roslyn is the standard). What this place gets right is everything I would cherish in a local cafe. First, it's not a chain. It's got characterful presentation and unique bakery and coffee items (the Persian food, cool bakery items, macaroons, the "saffron" drinks, the nutella hot chocolate, the Turkish coffee and yes, their exquisite pour-over coffee being the highlights). It sponsors local artists. The furniture isn't sterile and boring. Mocha gets a lot of things right, but it feels a bit lost a year into opening and I feel it's due to a problem that is ubiquitous in the American eatery-scape: professional hospitality standards are lacking. On a Sunday morning the cafe was full of patrons, but behind the counter, only one rather scattered and harangued worker to prepare coffee drinks, ring people up, prepare plates of food and serve it out. That's unfair. This pleasant young man wasn't up to multi-tasking with food prep, so he was trying to finish my coffee service while using his free hand to pull out a croissant from the display for the customer behind me. It was rather off-putting. Surely a hygienic approach to food prep and polite, attentive customer service is the least one can expect for going out to patronize a cafe? But why suffer us customers through this lackadaisical approach to customer service? It's the wrong thing to do to build and sustain a customer base. I really would love to patronize this spot but not when the service is so spotty. I would much prefer a seamless service experience and that takes training and standards. Get with the program Mocha. You have a lot going for you but don't let it get lost in the shuffle of understaffing and inadequate food prep training.
The owner is a therapist and so am I. So, that's a bonus in my book. Good strong coffee. Tasty breakfast sandwiches. Tasty lunch sandwiches as well.If you have a sweet tooth, get the cream cheese brioche. Friendly staff.

I had always wanted to try Persian pizza since I had always heard it was really good in Iran. I was able to find this spot that makes and was super happy! We tried their popular pizza and veggie pizza. Both were really tasty and it came with a sauce. I personally enjoyed their popular pizza more with ketchup. I wish it was less oily but loved it! read more

If I could rate it more than 5 stars... I would!!! Persian pizza is so hard to find in the US and GOOD ones are even harder to find. This place makers the best Persian pizza!!! This place is so cute and trendy. They have chandeliers hanging and multicolored furniture in different forms. It's quite small, which is typical in the Arlington area, but gives a cozy feel. They offer all types of hot and cold beverages, hot and cold food items, and several desserts/pastries. On recommendation from my best friend, who also really likes this place I ordered the honey cinnamon latte and the mixed special Persian pizza. Both of these items were delicious, to say the least, and I look forward to the explosion of flavor from their Persian pizza in the future. The pizza was a really good size and had at least 8 slices. Very hard for even the hungriest of people to finish all in one meal unless they are beyond famished. The latte had the perfect amount of sweet/cinnamon/coffee ratio so it was neither to strong, spicy or sweet. It was so creamy and went down very smooth. I called my order ahead, and I was about 7-8 minutes away. I was told it would be about a 10 minute wait so I expected to have to wait a few minutes once I got there and paid. I ended up having to wait much longer though (say 15-20) minutes before my pizzas came out (I ordered 2). This was unexpected and a little irritating, maybe because I'm just not very patient, or not! That is really the only thing I would say needs to be improved. read more
So this place is a nice change from the normal idea of persian food as kabobs (i mean kabobs are amazing dont get me wrong...) but it has regular american pastries and the french influenced kind so popular with persians, and the regular iranian deserts, so thats pretty great. The "Persian pizza" is their centerpiece and i will say this, i really like the way its prepared, kind of like a deep dish chicago style pizza, and just bursting with stuff! I am not a fan of processed meats so i dont love the regular persian pizza, the vegetarian is more my jam... the said, the staff was nice and helpful and sure the food may take some time but you also know its being made fresh.... i also love the ambience, its super cute and pretty and peaceful. read more

I haven't written a review for a very long time and this place was so damn good that I had to come out of the shadows and make my return to comment. My friends have been telling me about this spot for a couple of years and I finally had a chance to taste for myself what all the rave is about. I had the Persian pizza (obviously) since that was the pull for me personally. It looked like they also served a selection of coffee and pastries which I will definitely go back and try. I ordered the makhloot (mixed) pizza which came with a bunch of meat and veggies. The flavor was definitely different, but it was a solid, stocky and filling. It was served very fresh. I was surprised by the flavor. I wasn't expecting much, but it tasted just like what I remembered from the streets of Tehran, and I haven't been back for over 20 years when I was a child. Some flavors just stick with you and I distinctly remember this one. It was delicious and I'll definitely go back. The place is a bit small inside, so I wouldn't go with a large party. But it's great for pick up or a trip for two. Also, the pizza is a personal size, but it's so rich that it's way more than enough for one and is definitely shareable. read more
What a hidden golden nugget in the heart of Arlington! So many coffee shops and we stumbled on gold for sure! Stopped by here post-dinner for some tea and desserts and this place hit the spot perfectly. We ordered in house tea (comes with freshly home made baklava - absolute yum!). I ordered the orange blossom (sweet and fresh), my boyfriend ordered the organic coca tea. Wow, y'all I would've never guessed but the organic coca tea was ABSOLUTELY delicious! I can't even piece it through words to do justice towards the taste, but it tasted like a tea with light chocolate notes embedded into without being overly sweet. Paired with the baklava- it was perfect. We also ordered the dark chocolate mousse cake which was also pretty divine. They also have cafe dishes such as pizza, something we will most likely return to try. This is a great spot for a light meal, for tea, to get some work done, to catch up with a friend or loved one, or to dig into some sweets. Parking can be slightly tight and tricky in the small front lot, but that should definitely not deter you from visiting this place. read more

Cute little place tucked right off of Arlington Blvd. There's a little bit of parking in front but not much. I came and tried a mocha, saffron shake, and a macaron. The mocha tasted kind of watered down but was ok. The saffron shake had a banana-y taste I wasn't expecting but was rich and a little too sweet. The macaron was disappointing. It tasted stale, like it'd been sitting out a while. I've kept macarons refrigerated and let them sit out back to room temp before eating them but this was just stale and kind of hard to eat. I understand macarons are more difficult and shouldn't judge everything else based on them so I would be willing to try something else. I'm curious about the Turkish pizza and may try that next. read more

Best pizza in town, best coffee in town, best service in town, best cashier in town. I've been here so many times and have not been disappointed once. This is the real deal. This was a quick and unplanned stop for some much needed coffee so I didn't get to spend too much time here, hence the shorter review.. Vanilla latte was good :) I got it to-go pretty quickly! The cafe has a small quaint vibe~ Quite cozy and nice music. The menu showed breakfast, bagel, sandwich, Persian pizza, salads and appetizers too! They also had a selection of desserts which looked good! Price was moderate and if I had more time I would probably try some of the food! read more

You can see from pic below how amazing the pizza is that I couldn't even resist and stared eating right there in the carit's so delicious. Only suggestion for improvement is hours of operation. Longer hours would be better! read more

Such a cute place! We had seen their calligraphy wall on Caffeinate the Capital instagram posts and definitely wanted to give it a try since we (being my sister and me) love coffee and calligraphy! On the outside, it looks very hole-in-the-wall-y, and is in a humble shopping block. The owner was super friendly and we loved that the menu had classics, but also unique drinks like the cinnamon honey latte and saffron shake! Both were incredible!! They do also have phenomenal desserts, that we did not get to try this time since we were saving space for dinner. There is a modest amount of seating, but it's perhaps not too different from most DC/NoVA coffee shops in that regard. Definitely recommend! Support local and check it out!! read more
I had a hard time deciding to finally write this review because I've been going to mocha cafe since they opened and when it's good I LOVE their breakfast an dcoffee. However, I do believe mocha cafe has a problem with providing a CONSISTENT quality of food and service. I always get their egg and cheese brioche with no bacon because back in the day it was served on huge fluffy brioche slices with a large serving of delicious scrambled eggs and cheese. However the last four times I have ordered this it has either been cold, the bread has been stale, it has had bacon put on it, or the serving size was so pitifully small that it really pissed me off to pay $7.15 for it. Another problem they have is that depending on who rings you up the price for your order can vary by $2-4. I still don't understand how this happens but it's annoying. I'm disappointed because their breakfast used to be unbeatable and my go to place. I will continue to go a few more times with the hope that this has just been a fluke and the quality of mocha pastry will go back to what it was 6 months ago. read more

I stopped by Mocha Café & Pastry after eating lunch next door at El Charrito Caminante for a quick caffeine digestif. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but once you step inside, it's like you've been transported to a quiet, Parisian-style café. There is a lot of Parisian décor from tiny Eiffel Tower statues to wall decals and even colorful upholstered chairs. They also sponsor local artists so there's some café-inspired artwork on the wall (for sale!). I decided to try their Turkish coffee, which the barista took to explain what it was and what he was going to do. The process takes a couple of minutes, but he was very diligent about informing me how long it would take and what he was doing. He seemed really passionate about his work, and he was very friendly and approachable. Great service! The Turkish coffee was fantastic. It was my first time trying it and it is definitely something I would have again. It's unfiltered coffee that's served in an espresso-sized cup where the grounds settle at the bottom. But unlike espresso, Turkish coffee is meant to be indulged in slowly. In fact, you should really take your time allowing the grounds to re-mix with the water. Since it's unfiltered, the coffee doesn't completely dissolves. A little thicker than typical coffee but well-balanced. Lovely, quiet place to enjoy coffee/tea and house made pastries. read more

Lovely local business with a personality. Small and homey, there are cozy little chairs and tables that are perfect for a quiet coffee with a book or a tete-a-tete with a friend. Lots of distinctive touches from the playful, quirky decor to the idiosyncratic offerings: you can pick up a bracelet to ward off the evil eye along with your pastries! The pizza is good, and a bit different from standard pizzas. It has more toppings, so one dish could be enough for two people. Most interestingly for me, they have truly unique kinds of tea you won't find anywhere else, sourced from their Iranian roots -- things like saffron tea, which I have never seen before anywhere else in my life! I tried it and the closest thing I can compare it to is chamomile -- pleasant and mild. Lastly, the staff (when I was there, at least) were really nice - easy to talk with if you felt like it, but unobtrusive if you didn't. They clearly know their regulars and have a rapport with them, which is always a positive sign in a local business. There aren't a ton of independent coffee places around Arlington, and this is vastly superior to the big chains of the world -- great to have as a go-to cafe! read more

"Life is short, eat dessert first." Nice statement, I'd just go do this somewhere else. Otherwise, the more appropriate statement may be, "Eat dessert first, and die trying to here." Okay, we'll that was just a tad melodramatic. But you'll catch why in a sec. So I'd like to start off with a positive note because by the time you read eeeeeeverything else below, I'm sure you may have moved on. So the place is REALLY cute inside. Not made for large groups but a very cute coffee shop that you catch yourself walking around checking everything out. So the problems? - The place says opens at 7. I got there at 720 and still completely closed. I wait 5 minutes and of course the guy pulls in as I'm pulling out. Sees me come in and says nothing. Anyway, moving on.. everyone has an off day. I just wouldn't come on the way to work right at opening. - Tried to use my 10% off yelp check in. Not sure how .42cents off $16 is 10% but I kindly asked her if she could check again. Same look as I got when I walked in! and she had to call someone else. - Bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. The cheese and croissant wasn't good sadly tasted stale. - Their cream cheese brioche pastry was literally two slabs of bread with what looked and tasted like a clump of Philadelphia cream cheese mobbed in the middle. - The almond chocolate croissant was probably the best order of them all and it was just okay. Same with the pumpkin macaron which was a little hard. I think issue is they're just not fresh. Since I was there right at the opening I saw they're left overs from the day before. I didn't order any coffee and the few customers that came in after me ordered coffee so maybe that's what keeps the place going. Other than that, I was a little sad I went out of my way to make a stop here. read more
