    Pandan cake

After eating at Lapu Lapu, I took three steps to Gwenie's since it's in a split cafe. They offer flavored stuff donuts, cakes, breads, rice cakes, pastries, Ube desserts, buko, hopia and more. There were so much to chose from but I only selected three flavored donuts (pandan, pistachio, mango); pandan cake, Ube cake, and pan de coco. The highlights were the pandan cake and pan de coco. The pandan cake had the right consistency and strong flavor. The pan de coco is a sweet bread roll filled sweet coconut. I wish the portion of the filling was more generous but it was tasty. The cashier Steven was friendly and knowledgeable. They have two other locations in Rockville and Frederick, MD. You can order a whole cake which they need 2-3 days notice and it comes in 6 and 9 inches. Since the bakery is a shared place, the atmosphere is comfortable and laid back.

I love getting my desserts from here. Their Filipino desserts taste delightful and aren't too sweet. The donuts had a very light cream inside which complements the pastry well. I highly recommend this spot! Keep in mind they share the store with Lapu Lapu. The store itself is pretty tiny so be prepared to take your order to-go.

If you're in Pentagon City, Gwenie's has to be one of your top stops for a sweet treat! It was so difficult to choose among all the flavors and colorful doughnuts. I chose what is considered a classic here: ube. The ube doughnut was so fluffy!! The ube cream inside is not heavy either. The filling is just as light as the surrounding doughnut and there is plenty of it, too. Could eat two more of those, maybe one of them pandan or chocolate. Beware, the entire menu is tempting. Give yourself plenty of time to look over everything. There's no wrong answers here. This place is a winner for catering, especially for breakfast and desserts.

Across the street from Costco in Arlington is a Filipino bakery with sweet and savory pastries. Behind two glass boxes, each pastry comes with a helpful description. Popping in after a doctor's appointment with my nine-year-old daughter, we split their Nutella doughnut. Full of flavor and amazing texture, we ordered another!

This location is right behind the Costco at Pentagon City and walkable from the metro. I was able to try the food here via a Yelp Event and must I say that everything is delicious. I would get any of their treats, especially the stuff with Ube or pandan. It is not a huge area inside but there is a decent amount of seating and there is a bench outside as well if you wanted to sit there. The staff and owner were lovely and oh the drinks are great too!

I wish I had more pictures to share but it was so dam* good that I ate it all. The doughnuts are soft and airy. Literally when you bite into it you can hear the sound of the air bursting out all while the flavor is bursting in your mouth. And yes there are more than just doughnuts, cake, panel and more. And the other five star bonus is that Lapu Lapu shares this space. Visit both, you will not regret it! Just typing this has my mouth watering!!! The service is great, the options are plentiful and you will leave happy.

We came in for Lapu Lapu but stayed for Gwenie's! The Ube Doughnut caught my eye and exceeded expectations. The doughnut was so light and fluffy and the cream filling was not heavy. There were a couple other flavors and one doughnut is large enough to share!

Their pandan donut was delicious! Fluffy on the inside, generous and tasty filling, and covered in sugar on the outside. Would definitely get this again. Apparently their donuts are popular and tend to sell out later in the day. The ube cheesecake is also good. The crust is made with coconut croaked which is interesting. The slice is a little small given the price. I loved their Mamon chiffon cakes. I got the pandan flavor and devoured it in one sitting. They have an excellent texture and are not too sweet. Like castella cake it was light and fluffy probably from using whipped egg white when baking. The ube pan de sal was a disappointment. The bread was dry, there was not enough filling, and the cheese was not melted after heating up. I would come back to try their ube soft serve and other Filipino desserts. The cashier was friendly and gave pretty good recommendations. They have seating inside but seems like most people take to-go.

-Super friendly and welcoming staff -Asian flavoured baked goodies is always a plus (pandan, ube, mango cream) -Come earlier so that you can get a better offering -I had two of the brioche donuts and a Jasmine tea. The tea was legit and though I usually don't like brioche donuts, the cream filling of the mango and pandan were light and real-tasting as opposed to artificial. -Definitely give it a shot if you're in the area!

Tiny Philippine bakery/coffee shop with just a few seats, that is tucked away right next to another small Philippine-style spot with hot food. I came here with my fiancé and we each tried a latte, her a vanilla latte and me a salted caramel one. She thought that hers was a little sweet, but mine was great. That being said, the place didn't fill our cups up all of the way with coffee, so it felt like they skimped out on us a little. We tried the hot food from the place attached to here, but it was pretty sub-par. We each got breakfast sandwiches that had eggs that were scrambled, but done so over easy, so the egg fell all over the place.

Goonies's pastries are delicious! Love the fact that they have a plethora of pandan-flavored, pastries, and goodies! The staff is super nice, too. Someone bought the last pandan doughnut the second day (in a row) that I went there, but she offered me a free cupcake(also pandan) instead, in honor of their saint day. Ambience is open air but a bit tight. They share the space with Lapu Lapu, who uses their bread in their own breakfast sandwiches. They're both Filipino bakeries,/restaurants, probably owned by the same person/group. Food options and order area for the shared space of Gwenie's and Lapu Lapu

This is a cute Filipino gem in the Pentagon City area. I was astonished by the variety of goods as some Filipino-speciality bakeries only have a few items. The Spanish bread and mango items immediately drew my attention. To order, you either pick up the items you want to purchase or you talk to the cashier and request the items you want behind the counter. They were super friendly and excited to serve the local community. Overall, the food tasted pretty good and I would return back to try even more of their selection :)

Yummy! Stopped here after some friends raved about food they had at a Yelp event. It's a cute place that shares space with Lapu Lapu. I was not disappointed. Service was great and the matcha and pie were delicious. I'm getting text about an earl grey matcha and I'm trying to find an excuse to go back to that area and try it.

Who knew that there would be a cafe in Pentagon City with this option? The interior is a bit cramped with many cardboard boxes piling up. We were able to order the food at the counter and waited about 5-10 minutes before the food was ready. BRAISED PORK OVER RICE (卤肉饭) - 15.49 Lots of rice, more rice than I could finish with the amount of braised pork belly they give. The pork was very fatty, which made it tasty and juicy, but it wasn't very saucy. There were two halves of a bokchoy and half of an incredibly boiled egg, which was meh. Still, I finished all the toppings and maybe a little less than half of the rice. I was full, but $15.49 for the food was not worth it. Overall, 3.5/5 but bump it to a 4/5 since there's a scarcity of food like this in the area. They sell other comfort Asian dishes too, like coconut chicken cutlet rice and Japanese eel rice.

With an impressively high Yelp rating, I was disappointed to hear the new owners say the glowing reviews are from the previous owner (though I respect the honesty). Despite that, we really enjoyed our visit. The new owners live up to the legacy. First of all, the service is excellent. An older man makes the food and who I assume is his daughter takes the orders. Both are kind. At the end, she gave my daughter a granola bar for free. The menu is a mix of Korean food and the small market in the back sells Korean products and more. It's very fun to browse and pick up some snacks and treats. My daughter loved the juicy grape fruit snacks. To eat, we ordered the Japanese curry and milk tea. Both were full of flavor and made with love. "This is my new favorite meal of all time," said my daughter. She devoured the bowl herself! There's a small parking lot in front of the cafe. But I would think they would have some heads up on conferences in the area just due to their location. Anyways, I bee-lined it here during lunch break to get a sandwich, with only one person in front of me at the counter. I had the ribeye cheese with added onions, peppers, and mushrooms (a $2.00 upcharge), and was told to have a seat and they would bring me the food since I was going to eat in the building lobby where this location is. And right after I ordered groups from the conference started coming in and soon enough the line was 15-20 people. At the end of that line were two co-workers that found this place by getting lost. They (co-workers) took over 20 minutes before they were even able to make it to the counter to order their food, chili and another ribeye cheesesteak sandwich with fries. After they placed their order, I looked inside and realized they were overwhelmed and were probably not going to bring out my sandwich so I went to the pick up area to ask the status of my sandwich. The panic behind the counter was telling me they lost my order. And they had me wait at the counter for my sandwich an additional 4-5 minutes. When I got back to the table I realized that all I got was the ribeye cheese sandwich with shredded iceberg lettuce, no peppers, no onions, no mushrooms. I wanted to go back, but with the panic behind the counter I said I am just glad I got something to eat. The sandwich was good, not bad, with a nice toast on the hoagie bread. About 10 minutes after I got my food, my co-workers got their food and the person that ordered the chili was very disappointed, they said they have had better chili and Wendy's. My other co-worker agreed that the ribeye cheese sandwich was not bad, but the fries were flavorless, like they were not salted. Anyways, maybe management could take initiative in finding out what conferences are occurring in the immediate area and be prepared that first day, because you only have one chance to make a first impression. I am not likely to return to this establishment due to the incorrect order and the slow service. I wish them much success.
