If you want garlic buttery, saucy goodness, the crawfish at South X Saigon delivered! Their house special also had a nice citrus flavor and the medium spice had just the right amount of kick. We were pleasantly surprised when they extended the 3lbs for $25 for Easter weekend. The crawfish was so good, we ordered an extra 2lbs. lol before the waitress took our first bowl away, she made sure to pour the remaining sauce onto our next order which we appreciated. I'm not a very good frame of reference because I have not been to many crawfish boils. However, I thought that this place was pretty good for the pricing and also the flavor. We chose the crawfish smothered in the garlic butter. The crawfish themselves were boiled, and you had to order them by the pound so come prepared and come hungry. They came out very fast too. I have to warn you though you really have to get your full face into there to experience it. It's messy, greasy and part of the culture. If this isn't your thing, I wouldn't recommend. You have to really get in there to peel it and break the shells as well as devein them unless you're okay with eating it whole. Overall, great flavors but also by the end I'm not sure if it was the butter, but I also felt very heavy after. The restaurant provided with gloves, napkins, and water. Service was fast and easy. We ordered, ate and were out. Parking is not a problem. The interior of the story is kinda small though with only 20 people worth of seating. read more

Food: They were having a 3lb crawfish for $25 special (I think M-Th only). We got spicy with mixed flavor (garlic with traditional). It was VERY spicy, so I'd recommend going medium. My friends and I went for the crawfish deal that was mentioned throughout the reviews we read (the 5 lbs for $40) but unfortunately it's no longer a thing so just a heads up! I believe it ended up being $9.99/pound. We all got 2 lbs of crawfish with the house special sauce w/corn, potatoes, and sausage. For appetizers, we got the wings (garlic parmesan and lemon pepper) and the BTN. The wings were hot, crispy, and juicy! The flavors were on the faint side but it was still enjoyable. The BTN was delicious- crispy/chewy rice paper with savory toppings (a must try)! As for the crawfish... it was unfortunately waaaay too salty. I'm usually the type to easily destroy 2 lbs of crawfish but I struggled hard to finish this one. Every bite required you to chug water and it just wasn't pleasant. The potato was undercooked, the corn was fine, and the sausage's texture was great but it was also way too salty. Huge shout out to the waiters here! I know it was incredibly busy and my friends and I were a big group of 10 so they did a great job at making sure all the orders were taken care of and filling our waters. This was my second visit to South by Saigon, and it was much better than my first visit. I ordered 3 lbs of crawfish in the Traditional and Garlic Butter flavors, with sausage, plus an order of boudin balls. Since it's very early in the season, the crawfish were mostly on the small side, which I expected. That being said, the flavor was poppin this time around--way better than before. I only ordered the boudin balls because a lot of reviews mentioned they had cheese in them. I was really looking forward to that because Bonfire Wings used to have boudin balls with cheese, and I absolutely loved those. Unfortunately, these did not have cheese. They were okay, just not what I was expecting. If you like sweet and savory Viet flavors, this is for you. The sauce is garlicky, sweet, salty, and the crawfish was super fresh. The spice levels actually have a kick. I've tried many popular crawfish places and this place takes the cake. I went on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. The crawfish were good and big size BUT I was disappointed in the other food items. The wings were dry and kinda bland. It wasn't super bad but I didn't care for it. Love the crawfish here! We got the deal of 3 lbs for $25, and house special sauce spicy. We also got some spicy garlic butter shrimp, which were delicious as well. The chicken skin was delicious and crispy. My friends also got the cajun pasta and another dish with some curry in it, which they loved. The vibes are very mom and pop store, with very attentive servers. It is BYOB, so I'd recommend stopping at one of the gas stations nearby to get something cold to sip on. It was rolled rice paper topped w/egg pork sausage, shrimp, mayo, sriracha, green onions and fried shallots The crab legs were good, though next time I might go for the garlic butter and Cajun flavors instead of the house blend. We came here on a Friday night to check out their 5lbs for $40 crawfish special. There was a bit of a wait for a table for our group of 6 but not too long. The inside is a bit small but the plaza has plenty of parking space. Since it's crawfish season, it was quite busy but the staff did a good job with the service. We ordered 10lbs of crawfish to share which allows you to choose 2 different flavors. We opted for the garlic butter and mix flavor. Good size on the crawfish. We enjoyed the garlic butter over the mix flavor. We also ordered the fried platter and chose catfish and shrimp which also came with fries. The catfish was really good, a nice crunchy batter. The Southside fries had the cajun alfredo sauce with shrimp and crawfish tails. It would be better if they put more of the sauce to cover all the fries to add more flavor. I didn't expect to see fried frog legs on the menu but we really enjoyed it. Great flavors on the sauce and a nice crunch on the outside. Also tried their chicken wings. I've been to South X Saigon multiple times for crawfish, but mostly during non-peak hours. This time, my husband and I went on a Friday night and the wait was loooong (about an hour). We knew about the wait coming in though, I didn't have a problem with that. But I think the waiting list system could be improved. While standing at the bar waiting, I saw a guy checking the waiting list several times then later came in with another person claiming they were on the list but their name is crossed off.. The staff looked unsure but gave them a table anyway 0.o Also, once a name is on the list, the staff will call that person's phone number multiple times and wait for them to arrive. Sometimes it takes a party 15-20 minutes to come back for the table. Just my opinion, this system is not very efficient especially with limited number of tables South X Saigon has. The crawfish seasoning is amazing though! That's why I kept coming back. Crawfish is fresh and good size right now. My husband loves the cajun fries - good amount of seasoning on there. The house special sauce is an extra $1/lb, but honestly the non house special sauces are great too. Service is good, they're always coming around to dump your shells. They also supply you with thick quality textured gloves to dig in with, whereas most other places supply those cheap clear oversized gloves that ALWAYS seem to leak through. Bless. I am a person who prefers garlic cajun over a basil flavor but I can enjoy their take on Viet Cajun. We quickly found out that it was BYOB, but the server made it seem like we could go "next door" to buy some beer but there is no mart or liquor store in the same plaza...so my bestie and I had to drive to the gas station across the street to get some beer! Service at the table was also not great! Not attentive enough, in my opinion! But, the food and the crawfish was amazing!!!! Must try their house special! Super pleased with South by Saigon. My friend and I stopped by right at 12 when they opened on Sunday, and surprisingly the place was probably 1/3 full within the first 10 minutes. They currently have 1 pound of crawfish for $7.99 as well as a special for 5 pounds of crawfish for $35. Super good deal if you ask me, and they're super generous with the sauce. We also split the BTN - it was my first time trying this dish, and it was super yummy and flavorful with lots of sauce and loads of what I assume were fried onion or something similar. This place has one of the best deals for crawfish! I highly recommend getting their House flavor, it's flavorful and tangy with a spicy kick that lingers.
