Just stopped by on our way to the museum. I got the choco chip scone (very good, wish there had been butter) and my husband got the western. He liked it but unfortunately he wasnt able to finish it so i cant say if it was good past the first few sips. The barista who helped us was nice but seemed new since he wasnt very knowledgeable; however, he did get the answers for us when we asked a couple questions. I got my scone cold by choice but when they called the coffee the scone wasnt ready yet for some reason and of course i had to go back and ask them for it since they never called our name. Its a small place next to the NHM so even tho there is seating its limited. They sell merch too. I would not recommend coming here ONLY for the cafe, because there is no parking unless youre going to the museums. read more

Visited this spot two times during my four day trip to LA -- let that be your sign to come visit South LA Cafe! This cafe is black-owned and women-owned so you know I had to show my support. Upon walking in, you're greeted with a beautiful Nipsey Hussle mural as well as other social activist paintings created by small business artists. This place creates such a safe space for all which is super important especially during these trying times. On top of the ambiance, the service was amazing. You're greeted by individuals who appear to love what they do and genuinely appreciate your business. The food itself was yummy! During the two times we visited, we ordered some iced mochas, iced refreshers, croissants, bagels, empanadas, etc. All of them were solid! I will definitely recommend this spot to others and will encourage those reading this to also give it a try :) read more

I honestly wasn't expecting reasonablly priced, decently tasty coffee with good service at a museum like the Natural History Museum. I was expecting over priced, watered down, meh coffee. I'm happy to see South LA take their product seriously. The Western was a horchata and espresso coffee. I got it iced. It is pretty sweet, but tasty. The Crenshaw is a cold brew with cinnamon and whipped cream. I liked that it didn't taste too sweet. I should have gotten a larger hot chocolate, because I had my kids share, and they devoured it and were arguing over the drops remaining in the cup. The vibe is cool, pretty modern, sinple, and relaxed. It is next to the cafe with access from the outside of the museum. 10% off for teachers! read more

It's a lovely tribute to the community's rich history. The staff were incredibly friendly. While the menu includes many familiar coffee shop staples, they also offer some standout signature drinks and tasty empanadas. The real star for me, though, was the coffee cake, definitely worth trying! Portions are generous, and everything I had felt made with care. Went to some museums yesterday and stopped in here for a snack. I ordered an iced matcha w oat milk and lavender sweetener. Very yummy! They don't add a lot of ice like some other cafes. I also got the jalapeño croissant. Perfectly flaky! I got heartburn later haha but that's ok. I'll be back when I'm in the area and definitely try the coffee. Went here for our monthly BIPOC Fiber Friends meetup. It was my first time at the cafe and I loved it! I ordered a decaf oat latte and avocado toast - the avocado toast was more flavorful than the usual I have, which was a nice surprise. Our group took up a sizable number of tables, so Carmen came over and offered to let us use the back area the next time we come if we give her a heads up. This is my first time trying this coffee place and it was so delicious. I love the coffee that I chose, it was "The Western" ice coffee. It had a great flavor and you have option to get it cold, hot or blended. I also decided to try the chicken empanada which was delicious. Definitely one of my favorite places to get coffee in South LA. I also saw that they have different locations all around South Los Angeles and they have a loyalty program that let you earn points on every visit and after 10 points you get $5 dollars off. The service was amazing. The two persons behind the counter were friendly and welcoming. Since it was my first time there the person who took my order, took his time to explain the menu to me. The ambience is very calm definitely a great place to come and relax while enjoying a cup of coffee. read more

This was my first time supporting South LA Cafe, during my doctors visit at Kaiser in Baldwin Hills. My ice tea with lemonade was very refreshing and the bagel with salmon was prefect! This location is ideal! I had one young lady who was working very hard to service those of us that were in line, while the other employees were on a break. If it were not for this young lady who went over and beyond to make sure that she managed the line, prepared the orders.... I was shocked that there were other employees sitting down laughing, having a good time while clearly there was a line of 6 - 8 people waiting to place an order... My only suggestion to improve upon is the employee that slammed the window as I approached your business needs to understand the importance of customer service and support. She is representing your establishment, which if she wants to walk around in life with a negative attitude and not realize that her actions may impact your business and her future endeavors as well. Its a time for that young lady to learn, how you treat others in business is golden. Other then that one little mishap I will return! Great Food and at least you have one employee who is dedicated to work and representing your company. I wish I remembered her name, she needs a raise! read more

What a great addition to a neighborhood that I have been living in my whole life. This type of business is definitely welcomed in mid city and should be supported to where we can have similar great businesses added to our local neighborhood. I walked in and there was a little line but I didn't wait long. I got the horchata cold brew and one coffee cake. Both items were delicious. I went to go sit outside and just enjoy the morning. The drinks are well made when there isn't a long line of people waiting. However, the food bank service has issues on Wednesdays. The posted time was 12:30 PM, but by then they had already run out of bags. While people were left waiting in the 88-degree heat, the company took part in a celebration instead of assisting. Because of this, some cold food had already melted or gotten wet. Once you finally proceed through the line, the process is smoother, and there is helpful assistance available to carry food to your vehicle if you have one. Could have better service. read more

My mom and I finally visited after driving past for years. I'm so glad we did! We tried the mushroom & spinach empanadas, deluxe bagel sandwich, iced horchata latte, and the black mamba iced tea. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and was prepared promptly! The service was incredible--staff was patient as we scanned and processed the menu, shared recommendations based on what items have been popular for coffee and non-coffee drinkers, and invited us to pick out a complimentary button to take home with us since it was our first visit. Staff warmly checked on the regular patrons setting up camp on their laptops and welcomed us newbies with the same inviting energy. It brought joy to my spirit to see this Black and family-owned business of such high quality thriving in the neighborhood I grew up in, particularly when larger chains and brands often don't think we're worth investing in. What a sacred and safe space with Black and Brown people of all ages in community gathering over healthy and quality food and beverage options, right in our own backyard. There were also children helping to prep grocery bags for a food distribution! We will definitely be returning and sharing our experience with others. I popped in this morning for a matcha latte. I was warmly greeted at the counter as I placed my order. I gave her my name and order. I was personally addressed by my name three times! The shop is a vibe. Cool music, nice food and drink selection with indoor and outdoor seating. There was a small group of women having coffee before church and a group of friends socializing on the patio. There's a cute selfie, social media corner which I and a few others took advantage of. I'd met the owner a couple months ago when I stopped by to see what all the activity was. The avocado toast is well seasoned and a good portion! The coffee cake was good, the streusel had a pinch of salt and it added a nice savory element. Cake was moist and not overly sweet. Such friendly service! They rang a special bell when I told them it was my first time here. Cashier super helpful and kind, the vibes are nice. There's music playing and plenty of seating inside. Came here to do a little work and it was great, occasionally the blender would be used and that'd be pretty loud so maybe I wouldn't take a call or meeting here, but it's a great place to chill and study. We got the horchata latte, banana walnut muffin, and avocado, egg, and cheese bagel. The latte was so good! I usually don't have high hopes for horchata lattes but this one was fantastic. They are there to support their community, the people are super nice, and their coffee is REALLY good. I was in town and wanted to visit a friend, so I chose a coffee shop as a half way spot. The girl working was really sweet and explaining to me how it was one of their popular and I'll be honest - it did not disappoint. Here's what I didn't like (as an out of towner visiting), the ham & cheese kolache was terrible and still sort of cold. The bread to ham & cheese ratio was completely off and the croissant tasted a day or two old. I wasn't a fan, but it wasn't terrible. Secondly - parking is also horrible. Being from out of town, I knew I was in a sketch area, so I wanted to park kind of close. I had to go back and forth to find parking (which was fine), but I finally did and it wasn't bad. And i don't like the amount of homeless people that ask you for money or try to sell you a "case of water," for $10. That isn't necessarily the coffee shop's fault, so with that - I will say...their cause, their staff, and their horchata latte made the place and I would go back and support it again, next time I'm in town. read more
