    Matchata

Really good place to work. I also loved my Matchata (matcha + horchata). Baristas were kind and was able to post up at a nice wooden table. Enjoyed spending time there

This cafe was absolutely adorable, and I have heard so much about it from friends who frequent there. I came after a morning run to get a coffee with a friend, and was pleasantly surprised at their extensive menu! They have much more the just beverages and pastries like I assumed. They have hot food options, and I think I even saw shrimp and grits on the menu or something with shrimp! Nice! I got the sweet potato latte, hot. It was pretty delicious, but my only gripe is that I got the smallest possible size and it was over $8. Not going to lie, that felt a bit steep. Not sure if that's the norm with coffee spots now, as I usually make mine at home, but for the tiny size of my cup, over $8 felt excessive. Major kudos for good service because my friend didn't enjoy her latte cold, and they swapped it out for a hot one (even though she was ok paying for another item). I still would likely return and try a food item. We shal see.

Breakfast Bowl and Bangin' Breakfast Sandwich

Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen never disappoints. The coffee was outstanding--smooth, flavorful, and expertly crafted. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and satisfying, and the breakfast bowl was fresh, hearty, and packed with flavor. Great food, great coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite breakfast spots!

This place is as great as Issa Rae's career. It's amazing that she's fused it into this spot amongst others. Had the grits and shrimp with collard greens and an egg over easy. Also feasted on the beignets, the cornbread, and the highly recommended Issa's morning smoothie. The place was full of heart and soul and the smart said about the food, service, and ambiance. Thank you Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen!

Great location, around the corner from me. Had a cozy, and comfortable feel. The food is great. We visit the Inglewood location also. The staff is polite, but not too friendly ;)

Matcha Lemonade & Caramel and Hazelnut Iced Latte
    Teira R.

My god daughter and I absolutely enjoyed our visit here. We ordered the Matcha lemonade and a Caramel Hazelnut Iced Latte. The service was fast and the ambience of the shop was welcoming and cozy. It made for a great place to relax or get some work done. We did some work on our laptop and chatted for a bit. The Matcha lemonade was super delicious, I've found a new obsession.

To-go: iced mocha, matchachata, & breakfast sandwich

I'm team matchachata for life! This is SO LA in all the best ways. A black-woman-owned business, weaving together a Mexican drink & a Japanese drink to make a magical potion! The breakfast sandwich & iced mocha were also tasty. The vibe is cute tiny cafe, with a few solo tables & a couple big communal tables. The servers are friendly & efficient.

The açaí bowl is thick, fresh, and tastes like dessert in disguise -- perfect fruit, perfect crunch. And the avocado breakfast sandwich? Creamy, seasoned, and actually satisfying. No bland vibes whatsoever. Short version: it's delicious, it's consistent, and I'd 100% go back tomorrow.

Hilltop was such a vibe. The service was excellent from start to finish. The barista was so extremely helpful in helping us to choose our drinks. We both ended up with the hazelnut chai with hazelnut milk. It was sooo delicious. Definitely gave a bit of a fall vibes. We also had the cornbread which was so warm, sweet, and buttery. There was a lot of seating and the music was cool. I enjoyed my short visit. I will definitely visit Hilltop every time I'm in LA.

This place is located in my old neighborhood in Los Angeles a block away from where I used to live. Been here a handful of times and every time I come it never disappoints. They have great coffee and great breakfast items along with side items to choose from. The ambience is great, all type of people frequent this spot. I had ran into two mothers with sons when I went with my son this time and we all sat together and chatted and let the boys play which was adorable. Food is always good and hearty portions. My son had that turkey sausages as a side, it comes with three sausage links and that was just enough for him for breakfast. I had the banging breakfast sandwich ($15), which was amazing and I couldn't even finish it all. Every time I come to LA I'll make sure to visit this spot!!

Pistachio chai hazelnut latte..... Nothing special!
    Yasaman J.

I loveeeeee going to local coffee shops. Hilltop coffee shops has several locations in LA. I had gone to one of their locations and I was not impressed with their coffee. I thought I should give their other location another chance. This time my experience was not any better than my first. My Pistachio chai hazelnut latte tasted watery and gross. I ordered half sweet and it was still way too sweet. So why the 4 star review?!! Well because of their reward app. When I downloaded it, as the new customer, you get $10 off your next purchase which basically paid for my watered down coffee! I won't be going back here again but hey no hard feelings! The service was slow...... The ambiance was pretty cool!

Had a great americano light ice add almond milk and a bit of caramel the other day. I also shared the banana nut bread with my hubby. When I say the coffee was to die for and the bread was good warmed up. My hubby had the sweet potato loaf and it was good too. Service was good, however, they initially made the drink wrong then remade it right. The ambiance is a nice coffee shop to catch up with friends, have a morning coffee date or just to work. Will be back

    Bangin' Breakfast Burrito
    Felicia D.

Went on a Saturday around noon. The people were pleasant and gave tips on what to order. I tried the breakfast burrito and had a sweet potato latte. The latte was soooo delicious. Would love to have another if I lived around there. The breakfast burrito was good, the sauce was great, and it filled me up for sure. I would have something different with my latte if I were to return. I was impressed by the artwork and all the decor. It was dope. Great place to have a bite with a friend, to go and do work or just chill by yourself.

Ask the Community - Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen

    Do you accept Apple Pay?

    Yes

Are you able to sit down and work in the cafe, or is it take out only?

    You can sit down

I saw a photo that suggests you roast and sell whole coffee beans. Where can I read the descriptions and consider ordering? thanks!

Has this location been closed down permanently?

I was told the Slauson location was closed for Renovation but will be open soon

Are there any gluten free options? I would love to frequent here as it's in my neighborhood but it's too frustrating to not have options other than salad.

I see several in the breakfast and bowl options, plus salads. I don't see any GF bread offered on the sandwiches or droptops but i think there are plenty of things to try beyond that.

Are the beignets the thick heavy ones or more light & airy?

They were more light and airy, though to me they were a little on the tough side.

    Is the establishment dog friendly?

yes and no. its a very small shop, so bringing in a dog would not be recommended at all. However there is small seating area right outside of the shop that is just fine for a calm dog.…
