They sell Digiorno pizzas for $12...the same as their frozen Deep dish pizzas.... Guess that's great if you need a Deep dish and Luce close by. This place is generally more marked up than is reasonable. read more

The South Loop Market opened up this last week, and I'm a fan. It's at the corner of Sheffield and Wellington where Pompeii was, convenient for dinner on my way home from work. Now, I'm excited to have this option for picking up grocery items so close to the train. There's most staples including produce, dairy, deli, alcohol, and pantry items. Prices were a little more than a bigger store like Jewel but not ridiculous. For example, a bag of lentils, can of chickpeas, or small tortillas were less than $2. Milk was like $4.50. It was also sort of fun to check out the specialty items I hadn't seen before, like edible cookie dough in a cup, shelf stable hummus in a cup you mix yourself, poop emoji gummy candy, and premixed gin and tonic in a can. The store is new, so some shelves are still being stocked. Not all freezer items have prices, but I'm sure they'll work out those kinks. The cashier mentioned their full deli will be serving breakfast too. Although I was sad about Pompeii closing, I was hoping something great would come to the neighborhood. Once I saw the sign of this place moving in, I was excited to check it out. I saw from the website it's a local business with a few locations in Chicago, so it's nice to support them. I went twice this week and think it's going to be a regular place to shop. read more

This is a great one-stop shop for all your on-the-go needs. When I moved to Lakeview, the location was appealing because of the neighborhood and the CTA stop right by my house. As the months have gone by, this has become another reason to be so grateful for my location. This place has it all- fresh produce, soups, chips and dip, ice cream, a deli with meats and cheese, cappucinos, coffees, pastries, pre-made lunch items, and a huge selection of alcohol. It has become the place we run to to grab a bottle of wine on the way to a BYOB restaurant or to pregame an event. It's where I run over when I'm craving some talenti gelato or mochi ice cream. It's a great little stop when you need one more vegetable for a soup you're making, some chips and dip or even some freshly made guac, sandwich meat, or yogurt/protein drinks on your way into work in the morning. The workers are always friendly and the prices are reasonable, especially for the convenience of the location right off the CTA shop. Really glad this place is here! read more

So i use to work in a breakfast restaurant growing up highschool through my 5th year of college in a small southern town. Very loyal employee, our hours were 5:30am-2:30pm, our usual customers were USUALLY in their 60's, high schoolers, or a family out on a brunch. After 7 years of service and i'd imagine on a daily basis 90%+ of our customers were regulars, I forgot to turn the 2 "open" signs off. Let me remind you 90%+ of our customers knew our hours... there was such hate mail and complaints on the phone to the main branch office and our store i was fired immediately. I walked past this market which I love and saw this sign on after I knew they closed and all lights were off.... and lost it. So you have finally failed me after 1 year of service. I visit this place pretty frequently since I work nearby and my experiences have been 50/50. There are two younger guys that work evenings and weekends (I don't know their names) but they are super nice and very helpful, which I appreciate. Some of the other people on staff are just genuinely not talkative or act like they don't want to interact with people at all. Even when I am checking out there have been times where the cashier won't say a word the entire time except to tell me the total! No "hello, how are you? Thanks for coming in." Nothing - and it's very offputting. As a consumer, the thing that makes me the most irritated are the ladies that work in the deli. They are (and always have been) genuinely rude. Getting the sandwich takes longer than it should and when you order they act like you're inconveniencing them. Their attitudes are so obviously negative that I stopped buying sandwiches (which are delicious by the way!) because I just don't want to interact with them or deal with that. I'm not sure what the deal is, but a big re-evaluation of customer service is needed. read more

Overall Southloop is a godsend. It's just a little bit far to all the grocery stores on foot. I've gotten groceries there more than I care to admit. Also I don't know how they make the best tuna salad in the world but they do. My only gripe is that I am continuously disappointed in the wine selection. I would go there more but I have to walk up to either Foxtrot or Whole Foods or somewhere else to get wine which means I get food at those places when I do. Forgive me for speculating because I could be wrong, but I truly get the sense that whoever is buying the wine just generally isn't that interested. Maybe they're taking too much advice from a wine rep who is pushing generic on them, or looking too much at antiquated rating systems, or picking too much based on the labels. It is clear that the food, deli and beer selection are very, very thoughtfully selected but finding a bottle of wine that isn't pricey and isn't kind of average is sort of tricky. There is SO much cool wine out there in the $12-$25 range. I get it that there are customers who want simple bottle with a fun label and a very recognizable grape but it's possible to serve those customers while also having a more broadly interesting section. I would urge the person in charge to consider overhauling that selection and to consider getting a consultant or even a volunteer who has a little experience putting together a wine shelf. Fewer different bottles with better selections from regions/grapes that have emerged over the past 15 years. The bakery and cafe items are pretty good if you don't mind throwing money down the toilet. And by pretty good--I mean the cinnamon roll was rock hard and the chai latte tasted like dirt. So bad. Happy to see this store in a spot that has failed for so long. I have been in the neighborhood for more than 10 years and the food selections are minimal, especially for a quick lunch or for the 1 ingredient you don't have for your dinner recipe. Today was my first visit (long overdue), I got a good ole comfort food turkey sandwich with chips. The sandwiches are huge, made fresh when ordered and though it was $10 for a sandwich and chips, it's well worth the visit. I couldn't believe how fast the sandwich was ready!! This is exactly what the area needed, a spot to grab a quick but fresh meal. This small store somehow packs in tons of stuff! From fresh produce, bread to booze and everyday essentials. It's like a classy Walgreens but offers a fresh deli which is AWESOME! Staff was very friendly too and store was very clean! read more

Don't buy their cigars. Wishing I had removed the cigar from packaging to inspect before purchase. I have never seen a moldy cigar like this in my life. Great addition to the neighborhood! Very convenient and well-curated selection of items. I appreciate that they offer some specialty items and brands not sold at large grocery stores, but they also offer a lot of basic items that can hold you over. I work near here and I've had nothing but great experiences in the past. Great, accommodating staff, good products, and convenient. However, the last few times I've been there the workers at the Deli do not take their job seriously. Half of the time they aren't at the counter at all and I have to search the store to find someone. When they are there, they aren't very friendly when I greet them, take way too long to give me an order that's wrong half of the time, and have a terrible attitude. I also don't care for them when they clearly snicker and talk about their customers behind their back. Very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Other than that, South Loop Market is a wonderful neighborhood stop that I look forward to on my morning commute. I will however not be ordering from the Deli anymore. read more

The offerings of this market on Sheffield is superb. What is far from superb is the attitude of the young woman behind the counter when I was there a few days ago. The man making sandwiches made a delicious one and I then grabbed a package of chips before sitting at a table. When I went to pay I gave the woman my breakfast ticket and also told her I had eaten a bag of chips. She chastised me for doing that, saying I should have paid for the chips and sandwich before sitting down to eat. I had no idea what I had done was forbidden. I pointed out to her there were no signs or any indication to support the sequence of events she preferred. She sort of shrugged her shoulders and grunted without even saying 'thank you'. read more

Great little neighborhood market filled the void of no grocery stores within a few blocks in case you just need to grab something quick! Coffee by intelligentsia, as well as espresso beverages made to order. Good options for limited square space including specialty vegan/vegetarian items. Produce is a bit overpriced but that's to be expected. I've always found what I've needed there. read more
