My special needs a son and I have been patient of this office since 2018 during the pandemic and current we have had to reschedule a couple times this year due to an Ebike accident surgery etc the office was made aware. My son has autism, our circumstances are sometimes extenuating, today. We were accidentally late and we were fired as patient not only that but the front office girls made this blatantly clear in the front office and we were not even courteously taken back to be let know that because we were 38 minutes late we could not continue with this Office. I feel that even though we've been longtime patient, we could not get any kind of professionalism or courtesy from the front office or the doctor. I do not recommend this place. I booked a "free" orthodontic consult with this office. However, orthodontic is not Dr Rodriquez's specialty; therefore, she was unable to help me with my orthodontic issues. X-ray is a standard procedure that comes with orthodontic consult. However, months later, unbeknown to me, I found out they had billed my insurance for dental check up and comprehensive X-ray series. I called their office and spoke with receptionist, Syra, who was rude and unprofessional. She was argumentative and told me with contemptuous tone " huh, we don't do free stuff here!" It seems, once they have your insurance information, they will bill regardless of what they told you initially. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Rodriguez for almost 8 years now and I will never go anywhere else! She makes sure that you are always comfortable and makes you feel safe while in her hands. Do not bother going here! Dr. Sofia Rodriguez and her staff are all out to get your money! Money hungry!!! The outgoing message on their answering machine says they are taking new patients, have available appointments right now, and please leave a message. They are desperate! Desperate for your money! The first red flag! I have had a lot of work done on my teeth. I had Mercury poisoning from Lyme and low immunity, so it is not like I am clueless! No good dentist needs to advertise that way! If a dentist truly cared about their patients (and not just their pocketbooks), it shows! Actions speak louder than words! On March 6, 2021, I was in this office. I was told that I needed a new crown on tooth #20. (see their quote attached below). (Two days later I saw my old dentist who checks me out and he tells me to leave tooth #20 alone and not to do any work on it!). That day at South Ocean Dental, I received a whopping quote for a zirconia crown at $1,800, plus $550 for buildup! The quote for a porcelain crown with high noble metal, was quoted much higher at $2,200! Wow! Plus, a quote for $550 for the buildup. Any previous Dentists-Cal dentists and my old dentist who did build up, always included build up in a very low price! How is anyone (esp. if you are disabled) supposed to afford that price? I would never pay their prices! Two days later, on March 8, 2021, I had an appointment with my old dentist in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. I used to live out there years ago. My parents and many friends went to this dentist also. I trust this dentist with my life! He is an excellent dentist, honest, has great integrity, and has been practicing for 40 years! Sadly, I became disabled for many years with Chronic Lyme, so had to use Denti-Cal. Denti-Cal is the worst! I will never use them again! I had many crowns done with my old dentist and they were far more reasonable in price! I also went to a very trusted dentist in Los Algodones, MX. In 2016, they did my implant and it is excellent. My dentist in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach currently charges $1341 for 1 zirconia crown! Porcelain with high noble metal is not used as much now, so therefore, usually costs a lot less. South Ocean Dental quoted me $400 above what my trusted dentist just quoted from my old dentist! The price of a Zirconia crown at $1,800 and for a porcelain crown $2,200! South Ocean Dental also added on an extra charge for buildup of $550 which no other dentist has EVER charged me before! Buildup was always included in the price from any previous dentists! I was really shocked by these astronomical prices! Why would I want to pay $1,000 more at an already uncovered situation? There was not one iota of any concern or compassion for me or my situation when I went to this office! Their price did not reflect any help whatsoever for someone on Denti-Cal or anyone for that matter! I ask you this: If you are giving such a high quality of service, then why do you accept Denti-Cal? Please read the other reviews. They are all similar. This place is trying to rip you off. I would not even go there if they paid me to do it! First, they lied to me about the service I needed. And then they over-quoted me by $1,000! I truly hope and pray you can read that Bible in the waiting room on your bottom shelf. So you can learn integrity and stop lying and commuting fraud by overcharging people and being greedy! God sees what you are doing! I am going back to my old dentist who is honest and has integrity! And also fairly affordable prices. Plus he will have me looking great! Yeah why do I want to pay $1,000 more for a job that I do not even trust? Or for a job I do not even need? I read many reviews. Im very happy I came here! I was going to a different dentist provided by my state funded insurance and they refused to clean my teeth because I apparently needed a deep cleaning with insurance authorization. It turns out I didnt actually need a deep cleaning they just didnt want to do it. When I came to south ocean dental they were super nice and attentive to all my needs. They cleaned my teeth and she confirmed I didnt need a deep cleaning. I also spoke with her about some pain I had and she was very knowledgeable and suggested I might need braces due to having a misaligned bite. A big plus is that they also speak spanish! Dr. Rodriguez is a very approachable and accessible doctor. She has professional and good bedside manners. She takes her time to answer my questions and have a conversation about my dental plans. She seemed ready to work with my dental plan and execute the work needed. The plus side of this office is it is state-of-the-art, All in One Stop Shop. It includes and is equipped for orthodontic work, cosmetic surgery, and general dentistry. She is taking new patients. Getting an appointment is fairly quick. Please read the reviews before coming here. If you okay with your insurance being charged for things they are doing then this is the place ! Don't get your partial dentures here. As they are done horribly and took 3 months of sending it back to the lab to process. And I still wasn't happy they canceled my appointments and blamed it on me. The partial still didn't fit. I wanted a refund for a product I didn't have time to continue to wait for and doesn't fit. They offered half of a refund. I had other bad experiences where I paid for a bone graft $600 to be told by another dentist there wasn't one. And being in severe pain for months after her pulling teeth out. And bone sticking out of my gums. I went in and was directly exposed to covid. Since there was no mask on the dr. They were closed for two weeks and didn't warn anyone it was because of covid. Dr. Sofia Rodriguez is not only a great dentist but a beautiful human being. She is able to do cosmetic dentistry, general, ortho and even dental implants. She has done a lot of dental treatment on me such as replacing all amalgam filling with resin and placing sealants on my molar since I grind them. It is also nice that she speaks spanish. First off, I can't say enough good things about how awesome Dr. Rodriguez is or Pearl at the front desk, or her staff. Everyone is absolutely wonderful. My story begins with me eating corn chips and biting down too hard on an unexpectedly hard fried kernal of corn chips. The sharp pain was instantaneous. What came next was weeks of scheduling to see other local dentists that had emergency services available. Now, I don't know if you're like me but I'm on Medical and have CalOptima as my provider, anytime you see a dentist for an emergency appointment, even once they submit the request to the insurance for the procedure there's a 2-5 week window for the insurance to process the request. Now, in my situation I was dealing with a broken tooth and was in need of a root canal. Long story short, it took me awhile to find Dr. Rodriguez, but once I did I knew the search was over. Her office is super easy to get to there in Lake Forest and once you do parking is also a breeze. Her office observed all current PPD Pandemic precautions. All staff are wearing proper PPD attire, temperature is checked by Pearl at the desk as you enter. Now what I really liked and gave me piece of mind was that each patient is seen in an individual room, with a chair, and wide screen TV with wonderful soft, calming music. The rooms have doors and you are completely separate from any other patients. It is really nice. I can attest to the fact that in some cases I personally experienced other dentists offices that were NO WHERE near this level of care when it comes to our current health situation and the Pandemic. Unfortunately, that is the case with CalOptima as we know many people can't afford top tier dentistry and it's difficult to find an office that will deliver that quality of service. Well, I'm here to say that Dr. Rodriguez's office delivers superior customer service as well as just plain straight caring. It did not feel like I went to have a root canal, no it felt like I went to a trusted family member who took time, effort, and care. TLC dare I say. I have heard a number of horror stories from friends who have experienced a root canal and they have had seriously painful procedures. But I can honestly say that not only did Dr. Rodriguez make sure that I was in no physical pain, she also took the time to talk and make sure that I was ok emotionally. That is to say she made sure I was relaxed and not having any anxieties about what was going to occur. She also was very kind to speak with me during the root canal to let me know at what point of the procedure she was at and how much longer I could expect to be in the chair. Seriously, I didn't think that I would ever find a Dentist of this caliber. I recommended Dr Rodriguez to my mom who is extremely particular about her dentist as she went to her last one over 25 years!! So a good Dentist is like family to us. I was able to optimize my options and chose a beautiful zarconium crown which was cast by a 3rd party outside laboratory with exceptional quality. The Dr.and her staff successful put it in and I can report that I have had no other issues with my tooth since. No pain, the root canal procedure was painless, the fitting was easy, everything went smoothly and perfectly. So, to Dr Rodriguez and staff I say a HUGE hearty Thank You for making my first and hopefully only root canal a very easy and painless one. I am actually looking forward to my next appointment, which is a huge change in my usual feelings towards dentist appointments!! read more

only because i had to give a star or would be -10 *. my daughter had gone in before myself, the day i was in for service the dentist sophia came in not wearing her mask ! i was taken by surprise, my daughter mentioned the same thing she was in the next room . we scheduled our next apts for service and left . i received a call from dentist 30 minutes before my appointment as i was headed out the door canceled so reset apt for following week . next day received a call canceling that appointment. dr worse out for 2 weeks family issues. my daughter and i became very ill got tested and positive covid results. we never left house except the dentist. realized dentist had no mask on called dentist office to confront that dentist was out with covid.? we were told no *come to find out they lied covid positive for dentist!! they are supposed to alert patchents they have been exposed. shameful. we also had an issue with office as my daughters work was horrible bonegraph was unsessful...her partial didn't fit couldn't get fixed right away due to swelling and pain . fought to get a refund from payment out of pocket. stephanie was absolutely disrespectful rude foul mouth to me cursing me out . warning worst experience at this office. lied about covid exposure. poor work . they dont like being called out for anything. Dr. Rodriguez and her staff are extremely professional and go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied with their services. I had a temporary crown and it cracked the day before they were closed. Dr. Rodriguez was so concerned about the sensitivity and comfort of my tooth that she came in on her day off to fix my broken crown. I was not satisfied with the work that was done to my teeth. I got my tooth filled and I was still feeling pain after 2 weeks and I went to get a second opinion and both the dr and hygienist at the other office pointed out that my fillings was done poorly after checking the X-rays, and they told me to go back to Dr. Sofia Rodriguez to fix my fillings since it was covered under my insurance. I went back to her and explained that I have pain she told me that I do see in the x ray there is a spot that could be fixed but I don't feel that is necessary to fix it even though I still have pain, and this small cavity could soon turn in to a very expensive root-canal. In her words "I can't do what patients ask me", so you are going to do what makes you the most money? Due to covid-19 I lost my job and now I have to use my state insurance to do my dental work, and It seems like the doctors want to do the very minimum when they know that they can't charge the insurance more, this is very disturbing to witness and even more horrifying to be victim to.
