Sincerely I wish I could forget my stay here. Let me say that there is nothing wrong with the hotel per se, the overwhelming problem is the staff. My family booked this hotel through AirBnB, and the hotel messed up the dates, giving us 2 nights instead of 3. On the Sunday afternoon of our stay (we were supposed to leave on Monday) , we got a very rude call asking us why was it that we were still there, and why we hadn't left yet. We tried explaining over the phone that we were due to leave on the next day, but they said that we were mistaken and that we needed to leave. We then proceeded to to the front desk (an 8 minute car ride, it's far away) and were greeted by Tiffany, to whom we showed our email confirmation stating that we indeed had 3 nights booked. She proceeded to say that it was not the hotel's fault and that we still had to leave because they were going to do maintenance on the room. Maintenance on a room at 6 PM, on a Sunday night. Right... When we pointed this out to her, she magically offered us another room, but emphasized that we had to leave our current one. We told her that we had a lot of stuff to move (small children included) and that we didn't see the point of moving it all for a merely 12 hours, and that we wished to stay there since the hotel had made the mistake and it was just for 1 extra night. Tiffany then very rudely stated that she would call security and have us escorted out if we didn't leave on our own. When we called her out on her rudeness and asked to speak to the manager, she simply told us that she was the manager and that she didn't feel she was being rude. Let me be clear Tiffany, when you work on the hospitality sector, and you tell guests who's reservations have been messed up by you or your staff, you do everything in your power to accommodate them. You don't tell them that you will call security and escort them out like dogs, especially if the guests always maintained a low tone and never once raised their voices. I guess you missed that class, or you didn't go to school at all. We ended up asking for a refund on that 3rd night (which she says we never had) and got it. So if according to her we never had it even if we paid for it, I guess she gave us a free refund. lol. So at the end we had to cut our vacation short, and pack our bags and leave on a Sunday night. If upper management ever reads this, please ask Tiffany to be more human and understanding in the future, and teach her that patience and empathy goes a long way in your business. read more

I have been coming to South Seas Plantation for about 20 years. I had not been here for several years. I must say the resort is very relaxing but this place is not as it use to be. I am staying in Harborside. The rooms need remodeling asap. You would think that for the money you are paying for the room, it would be nice and clean... The carpet in the room is dirty and stained. The upholstery on furniture is also stained. Curtain is torn. The bulb in the bathroom where the toilet is has been out since we checked in and has not been fixed. Behind the fixtures in the bathroom sink there is mold, yuk!!! My son is staying at Marina Villa, that room also looks worn out. Zero stars for this place. One morning we had breakfast at Harborside Grill. The service was terrible! I had to wait 20 minutes for a bowl of oatmeal. My son ordered an egg white omelette, waited a long time for it and when they brought it out it was with the yolk. I remember eating at Captain Al's there was a waiting line to eat breakfast, now there is no line and the place is on the empty side, I clearly see why. Come on guys this place is not cheap, get with the program and remodel these disgusting rooms and better the service. Don't think will be back. read more

Have you seen the show Hotel Impossible... uggh .., it stinks when your in an episode and you have your whole family for your summer vacation. First, can't check you in, then rooms they give you are dirty, things broken, and now we still don't have a room. For a family with a 2 yr old who traveled all day it doesn't get any worse. Save your money, this resort is not worth it! The pictures on the website are not how the hotel looks. The rooms are old and dingy. The service is horrible. There is limited parking for cars and everything is spread out. You are forced to rent a golf cart or take a trolley. Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable hotel! read more

THERE ARE HIDDEN CHARGES SO BEWARE! I booked my trip through the Allegiant website and got what I figured was a pretty good deal. I figured there would be some extra fees due to the deal i got being so cheap. First off they tell you at the front desk thier going to need a credit card to put a $400 hold on for purchases on the resort. Surprise! Good thing I brought credit cards because I might not have and would've been screwed! Kinda felt like a scam but I figured I'm here so I'll see what happens. What happened was a $17 a day, per person "resort fee" just for being there? All inclusive huh? The room was ok. It was dated with cracked tiles and old furniture but everything was clean and worked. Before i booked however, I called and asked if I was going to be "on the beach" and was told my room would be. However when I got there I was put next to a dock, across the street from the beach. When I asked to change rooms I was told that was all that was available. They make you pay for things like breakfast on the resort with your room key, you cannot pay with cash or cards. That's just dumb and annoying considering I took a friend who was going to pay for food but couldn't unless we left the resort. The island and surrounding waters are beautiful like most places in southern Florida but I've done Cancun at a "real" all inclusive and spent about half. Don't think I'll be coming back here or booking any more trips through Allegiant. read more

The 3BR/3BA beach villa we rented was perfect for our 5-day winter getaway with 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 2 kids under 5. The space was a bit tired (could do with a good renovation), but offered gorgeous sunset views looking out into the gulf. Pool area at the north end of the resort offers spectacular vistas out over the water and was designed beautifully for kids of all ages (incl. Crooked Snook bar right there for kids over 21!). On-property dining was adequate if unremarkable, and prices are what you'd expect at comparable resorts. We found our best dinners were off campus @ Doc Ford's and Keylime Bistro. Also, renting a golf cart from Yolo was definitely a plus; made for a fun/easy way for the 6 of us to get around! read more

This place has totally forgotten what customer service is all about! The pool staff seems put out when they are asked for towels, the ice cream store locked it's doors at 10:00 with a line of 10-15 people, the housekeeping staff can barely make their rounds! We have been nickeled and dimed for every activity!! This is our 3rd year at South Seas. We love the resort. But customer service has taken a deep turn in the wrong direction since our first year. We deserve better for these prices and for our loyalty!!! Another day of rough service!! Cleaning staff spent about 10 minutes in room, did not vacuum carpet, and did not leave fresh towels. read more

I have stayed at South Seas several times over the years, so I was very excited when my sister said that she wanted to have her very intimate, destination wedding at this beautiful resort. However, we were extremely disappointed with South Seas' response to her request. My sister reached out to South Seas with her request for an intimate wedding of just 10 people. She needed a ceremony and a private dinner afterward. Her budget, of course, was also small (it's for a group of 10!) with some room to move within reason. South Seas was provided with this information upfront. They told her that one of the dates she wanted was free and that they'd get back to her within 24 hours of her call. Two days passed with no response and after multiple follow up calls to South Seas, my sister was finally able to speak with someone. The person she spoke first said to her, "Oh, you're the bride with the low budget, right? We don't usually do such low-budget events". She continued to make my sister feel that her ten-person destination wedding was beneath the South Seas resort and then, to add insult to injury, she was told that they'd "try to piece something together." Apparently that was too challenging for them, and they called my sister back just to say that they couldn't possibly coordinate an event within her budget because it was just too low for them. Fortunately, my sister was able to secure a date at Casa Ybel, which specializes in small affairs and will be able to coordinate a beautiful event for our group. South Seas clearly either doesn't want to hold small events, are unable to do it, or considers small budgets to not be worth their time and consideration. They should have made it clear to my sister during her initial call that her event did not meet their minimum criteria for a wedding rather than make her wait for a response, only to be shamed for her small wedding. read more

If there was a way to give a zero star review, I would. Our experience here was terrible to say the least. I am not one to write negative reviews but a wedding venue is such an important decision that I want give a warning. My mom, my sister and I all flew to FL from 3 different states to meet and visit wedding venues. We didn't have much time here so we packed our schedule pretty tight. We had an appointment at a different venue in the morning and drove 3.5 hours to meet with the wedding planner for our appointment at South Seas. I worked with Ashley to coordinate my visit and appointment. First, the resort was not located in a very convenient location as it's pretty isolated. Check in started at 4 and we arrived right on time. It was extremely crowded and we waited in a long line to check in. We were given a "discount" on the room but still paid $177 a night for a room in the tennis villas. It was awful. Even if it would have been in pristine shape, it would have been a 2 star room. But it had not been well kept. There was a huge stain on the carpet, and stains on the curtains. The walls had mismatched paint, there were scuffs all along the baseboards and even though it had a balcony, there was no view. The room and even the outdoor facilities were dirty. Even though we were not satisfied with the room, we decided we would still give the wedding venue a chance as I really liked the pictures I had seen online. I tried to call the coordinator to let her know we were there early and see if we could meet. When I finally got through to someone in the wedding dept, they said Ashley wasn't on the property that day and asked to reschedule. Ashley had confirmed not only with me, but with my mom as well that we would meet at 6. She didn't just not show, she didn't even try to call to let us know she couldn't meet. And the lady that I talked to didn't even seem apologetic for the mistake. I don't understand how you can blow someone off that flew across the country to meet with you and was looking to spend so much money in the hotel. Not only that, but how you don't even attempt t contact us and apologize. It is crazy to me that this is how they treat their guests. And if this is how they treat you before they've made the sale, I cannot imagine how they treat you after. I would never host my wedding at such a place and I would warn anyone considering this venue to beware. Very disappointed. read more

Very dissappointing. We booked a garden villa and were told they were recently renovated and very nice. I asked again upon check-in and was told my room was very nice. When we finally found our room it looked like it gadnt been updated since 1965. There were major scratches off the paint on the wall an the wicker brown furniture was old and worn. read more

Stopped here for a short stay in the marina, on a the way to the keys. Only had two days. We were one of only three groups sitting at the pool. The umbrellas are screwed to the concrete so you're unable to move them. We moved our chairs around the umbrella in order to stay in the shade because it was sunny out we were scolded by the pool lady for moving the chars to with in three feet of the pool. We were happy to relocate and were not defiant in any manner. She was just rude to us. We moved to a conforming location and went on. I just hate being treated rude by staff. A few hours later we went for dinner. Our waiter had no knowledge of the food being served at the restaurant, he had a difficulties explaining to us what the specials were. He did not understand how to take an order. We changed what we ordered because he could not understand the things we were trying to order directly off their menu. The food was good but it was a fiasco trying to order. We ordered three bottles of wine with dinner and he had to have a different waiter come open them because he did not know how to open them. I am normally very tolerant of new employees in restaurants. When you go to an establishment like this you expect service to match the price that you pay. Positives- Beautiful property, great marina, I enjoyed the golf, family had mermaid pictures and the girl that took the pictures was over the top wonderful. read more

We just returned from a wonderful 3 days at South Seas Resort. It is a bit like Disney with wristbands for every guest, and a Trolley to take you all over this huge resort. The good: 1) The water slides were awesome for the kids as were all the many activities the resort has to offer for kids of all ages. 2) The food was also fabulous. If you go, visit Doc Ford's for dinner or lunch and order the crab cakes... heavenly! 3) Our favorite staff member (you know a place is awesome when your family is fighting over who is their favorite staff member) was the guy that welcomed us into the pool area each day. He was friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. 4) Their trolley drives you around the property from 7am to 11pm. We never waited for it more than a minute. 5) The room was clean and anything you asked for was brought up to you within literally minutes. Very attentive staff at the front desk as well. The bad: 1) unless you stay in one of the beach houses, you are a good 10 minutes from the pool by trolley. 2) the trolley drivers (all of them) need training on being friendly. They all got us to where we needed to go, but never uttered a word to us, mostly grunted and looked unhappy without fail. This may be one of those jobs that needs to be done by several people for no more than a couple of hours at a time. The ugly: This was our first visit and we stayed in a tennis villa which was nice enough, except that the sofa bed was absolutely unacceptable with the springs practically bouncing out of the thing... no way you can sleep on it pulled out. For this reason, we are not giving it 5 stars. Next time, we'll save up for a beach home. It is another $100 per night, but totally worth it. Thank you SSIR for a great vacay. We will see you next year for sure (minus the sofa bed!) read more

This resort is beautifully located on the tip of Captiva Island, but I prefer The Caribbean, offering the turquoise blue waters, luxury resorts at a more affordable price, and a larger selection of recreational activities. Beware of the extra costs associated with South Seas Island Resort: tennis is very expensive and not included, water sports cost extra, and food is very expensive. We drove a half hour to a grocery store in Fort Myers, and probably saved our family of four $500 in food costs and ate much better food. Remember that the Summer can have questionable weather since it is the tropical storm season. Room service was the worst - we had to call every day because they didn't give us towels, didn't give us dish washing powder, didn't give us pot holders, or just flat out didn't come. I did a test to see if they cleaned our bathroom by leaving a hair in the same spot all week, and it never left that spot. I leave a tip 99% of the time - but those maids did not get one. Check your bill closely - we got double charged a $100 family boat excursion fee. And the final frustration with South Seas: They were not fully booked and we arrived at the hotel around 11, but they didn't give us early check in. We asked for late check out when it was time to go - but they didn't give us that either. read more

We just returned from South Seas and had a great time. We recommend it. We stayed at the rooms overlooking the marina at the North side. I can't imagine staying at the other room types around the resort. We think we had the best. The rooms were clean, new (since the remodel after the hurricane) and comfortable. Generally, we enjoyed the resort and mostly hung out at the resort--only leaving one afternoon to rent a fishing boat at Jensen's, which is less than a mile outside the resort. Pluses: - Buffet breakfast (free for kids in our package) was not cheap but had a great variety and good quality that pleased everyone. Service was lack luster, but not that important to our enjoyment. Nice view. We intended to go to the Starbucks each morning at the resort entrance, but the buffet called to us each day. - Loved the bbq at Holy Smoke. But can't have it 3 times a day! - Cheap cruiser bike rental. Fun for getting around the resort. - Fishing around the marina and T-dock was unbelievably plentiful and lots of fun. We called it "catching" not "fishing." - Beach was beautiful, serene and the attendant was super nice. Note, it's not a shelling beach. - Birds of Florida were fun to watch. Ospreys, pelicans, herons... - The pool looked nice, but truthfully, the weather was unusually cold, so we didn't spend any time there. The water slide looked hecka fun, but again, weather was too cold to enjoy. Little bar set up at the pool was convenient and fun. - Tennis courts were well maintained and the pros were great! Recommend the 9am clinics for beg-inter. level players. - The marina looked fantastic if you come by boat. Mostly open slips this time of year. - Really friendly, helpful staff at the marina and in the ship's store. Typical for all of Southern Florida, we think. - Exec sized golf course looked beautiful and sort of easy--but we didn't use it during our stay. - DVD player in room. Minuses (thus 4 instead of 5 stars): - Jacuzzi closes at 6pm - It's a 1/2 hour drive to go shopping or a movie back down on Sanibel island--but not a biggee for us. - No ball machine at the tennis courts. - Pizza "restaurant" was a little too kid friendly with a huge wall full of candy and 3 types of cardboard pizza. I wouldn't recommend the resort for a romantic getaway. I highly recommend it for families with younger children. It's a long, skinny resort with a 2 mile long road--lots of different types of housing. So very large property but the amenities were focused at the entrance and the tip. read more

Truthfully, this has been one of the WORST experiences I have had at a resort. I booked this for one day and it was a nightmare from the beginning. When we went to check in they said they had our room(we requested 2 queen beds), confirmed our request, and told us they couldn't tell us the room number but that someone would call us when the room was ready. Someone called right at 4pm(the exact time of check in) told us they had our room with one king bed. We explained we requested 2 queen beds because we had my father-in-law and our two children with us. They looked in the system, confirmed our request, and told us someone would call us back with a room. No one called back and we had booked a sunset cruise at 5:15pm so we called back explaining we had to leave. They told us they found a room for us and that someone would meet us at my sister-in-laws room with the keys. Waited for 30min and no one showed up. My wife and I went to the front desk to find out what was going on because when we called the front no one picked up. They apologized and said "we are really busy." We got the keys to the room and had to immediately leave to go to the cruise without showering or unloading our stuff. When we got back at 8pm from the cruise and dinner, we unloaded our stuff, went to the room, and when we opened the door there was another family there!!! We called the front desk to find out what's going on and speak to a manager, we spoke to A manager Bill and all he had to say was that they were really busy today and that someone would bring us different room keys for another room. We told him this was unprofessional and unacceptable and he offered us free breakfast!!!Meanwhile our kids are way past their bed time, we're tired, free breakfast was a joke! I would NEVER stay here again and caution anyone who does! read more

This resort has a great reputation, but no longer. The resort is tired and run down. Customer service was almost nonexistent. Guest services did not answer the phone, and on the rare occasion they did they could not answer the question or transferred us to voicemail. We stayed at the Harborside Villas. Our group of 7 had 2 villas. 2 bedroom, 2 bath. They were not exceptionally clean, several maintenance issues, and the kitchen was as bare bones as possible. 4 spoons, 4 forks, 4 cups, 5 plates, not much more. The pool and beach looked great, but it was too cold when we were there to use them. We arrived by boat, so needed bikes to get around. The bike rental was fun although again run down. We had a great tour of the property and most of the island on the bikes. But 4 of our bikes had to be exchanged because of flat tire, broken handle bars, kick stand that hit the peddle every time, etc. Bright spot - the marina was nice and the staff there was helpful. Some people in our group stayed in the hotel rooms at the marina and said their rooms were tired also. We would not stay at South Seas again. read more

I recently arrived to a dark, very ugly tastelessly decorated room relatively far away from a pool area. It reminds me of an econlodge motel room, which I have stayed at and was fine for what it was- but I was expecting resort here, not motel. I had to walk through a dark alley in order to get to the room and wait for 10 minutes while staff filled and rode the elevator. I had requested a handicap accessible room, and then when I arrrived were told there were none available. I feel trapped here and am contemplating changing my flight reservations to leave early. My partner is at a conference and so I am unable to change hotels. Very, very disappointing. If you are looking for a nice hotel do not stay here. read more

Just returned from a wonderful week at South Seas resort on Captiva; a huge, beautiful property with many different types of accommodations. Depending on what you're looking for, it would be a good idea to contact the resort directly to get an overview of the various types of room arrangements and the features of each before you book. I suspect the Harborside hotel rooms/suites are perhaps more modern since they look newer but they are north and not located beachfront. The resort restaurants are also located at this end. At the south end, there is the provisions market, and different types of villas; close to tennis courts, main pool areas, the marina, bayside and/or beach views. We reserved a delightful one bedroom beach villa for our stay and we were beyond satisfied! It was a cheery, welcoming space painted in a soft, sunny yellow with white accents. There is a full kitchen with dishes, pots/pans,etc; a large, comfortable living/dining area with a sofa, chair, flat screen tv and a dining table as well. There was also a screened balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the pool and beaches. We had a spectacular view! These villa buildings appear to be older than some of the newer ones on the northern end, however, it was just a very short walk to the beach. And for us, it was all about the location; we wanted to be as close as possible to the beach, plus we wanted a kitchen and we felt this was, without a doubt, the perfect spot for us. There is a resort fee, however, among other amenities, this includes unlimited use of beach towels, chairs, umbrellas and a friendly attendant who will greet you when you get to the beach with towels and will offer to set up the umbrella(s) for you if you'd like them. The beach is amazingly beautiful and we loved the relaxing time we spent there. We had a couple of rainy days and did some comparison research at other resorts, mostly at Sanibel, and I would just note that those with no resort fee typically do charge for each of the beach amenities and limit the number you are allowed. We decided to purchase very delicious sandwiches at the Provisions and take that with us for lunches on the beach. They also have groceries and staples; a bit pricier than a larger market located off the island, but very convenient if you just need a sandwich or run out of something. With a kitchen in our unit, we did get groceries before arriving to the island and enjoyed breakfast on our balcony each day and a couple times had lunch or dinner in also. We ate at Doc Ford's a few times which we enjoyed, not technically part of the resort, but very closeby. We had a fantastic dinner at the Harborside the next to last evening we were there - it is the more expensive restaurant of the choices at the resort located at the northern end of the island, but the atmosphere was comfortable and casual, the food was delicious and we enjoyed it very, very much. A trolley runs between the north and south areas of the island, they run pretty much all day and this is another guest convenience included in the resort fee. In my opinion, this place is a perfect haven for a wonderfully relaxing, island vacation (without leaving the country/ needing a passport if you are a US resident!) There are many other options available for more active people; bike rentals, water sports, fishing, etc., but for us, we just loved the convenience of being so close to the beach, enjoying some down time there and some delightful afternoons having drinks and lunch at some of the local eateries. There's not a whole lot of them and we didn't sample them all, but this is just a small island! There's not a lot of room for lots of restaurants! And I wouldn't suggest coming here if you're looking for somewhere with lots of bars and busy night life. Rather, I would describe South Seas as a classy, welcoming resort in a beautiful, quaint little town. We also drove to Sanibel to see if that might have more to offer in the way of eateries. In our opinion, although there were more bar/ restaurant type places available, they were all pretty much on the busy main road; less convenient to get in and out of and not at all close by to the areas where the hotels and beaches are located. In conclusion, I can only say that we were very pleased and extremely satisfied with our experience at South Seas; we could not have been treated more nicely by every single staff person we came into contact with. Neil was VERY helpful in so many ways, as was Eric at the front desk; and again, everyone there was great, I just don't know all their names! We definitely plan to return next year. Being familiar with what to expect now, we think we'll love it even more next time! read more

Never Again!!!! We are used to traveling in and out of the US and had the fortune to visit and stay in many hotels. Staying at the South Seas Island Resort was THE most unpleasant experience we ever had. First, the room we got was not at all what we expected. We were promised a three bedroom villa which turned out to be a poorly designed apartment. We decided to upgrade to another room for the symbolic amount of $800 a night. Once in the room, we were told that the room's floor did not have proper insulation and to please be quiet. We are a family of four children so that was not an easy task. By 9:30 pm the security guard knocked on the door and threatened us that if we don't keep it down, he will bring the police to "take care" of the noise. Maybe he planned to arrest the kids???? My ten year old daughter did not sleep all night because she was terrified that the police would come. Not sure what was his intention. The next day we had the audacity of treating our kids for an ice cream. We have a seven year old boy with special needs. As he walked in the ice cream shop he was overwhelmed by the noise and he started screaming. As we struggled to quiet him down, the employee tending the store complained that my child was being too loud and that we need to quiet him down. It was one of the most hurtful moments we have ever experienced with our child. In my brother's apartment the fire alarm was activated at two am and no one was able to quiet it down. Fire department had to come and shut it off an hour later!!! Employees were rude and unhelpful. If you have kids, do yourself a favor and don't stay here!!! Sanibel Island offers much better customer service and accommodation ( Sundial beach resort is amazing) Everything in the South Seas is far and you need a car to transport everywhere. You can wait for a trolly at a 100 degrees weather or pouring rain. Unfortunately our family vacation was ruined thanks for the staff and facilities. read more

We used to love coming to South Seas, but it seems something has changed at the resort. The grounds are not as well kept as they had been previously. Our power went out numerous times. You'd think that a resort on an island that frequently experiences storms would have generators. They don't. (For the record, these outages were not the result of inclement weather.) The biggest change is in the guests. Drunk college kids can be found wandering around the property drinking straight out of liquor bottles and getting super drunk by the pools (not normal, letting loose drunk) or blasting incredibly loud, profane music from the balconies at night. They also scream coming up and down the stairs or in the hallways at night. Two groups of them got into it outside our room and were threatening to beat each other up, though I don't think it actually ever got physical. We could hear all of this through our paper thin walls. It continued even after we called to report it. At around 12:30 (still awake because of the high temperature in the room - no power=no A/C) I heard one of them peeing on the stairs and yelling to the ladies and gents in his party about how it was like a waterfall. Super classy. Here's the thing, that's fine in Panama City or Daytona Beach during spring break. I get it. Kids will be kids... But we come to South Seas with our two young children because we think of it as a family resort... It always has been in the past. Needless to say, the trip was disappointing. I gave it two stars because the golf course is a nice little course, and the Sanibel Sea School was fun for my daughter. I should add that there are still a lot of families vacationing at South Seas, and quite a few of them voiced their displeasure with our super loud neighbors as well. A couple parents even took matters into their own hands yelling "Shut the ____ up!" when the kids got really noisy. Not really helping the situation, but they tried. read more

I was a little worried reading the reviews while riding to the resort but was happy with the room and experience when we arrived. We stayed in the Marina Villas, which are condos but they were spacious, clean and comfortable. Importantly, they were affordable. My only complaint about the room was the air conditioner put off a musky scent when turned on high. The north end of resort itself is pretty close together so much if it is walkable. The bartenders were friendly, the food was good (if you make it to the breakfast brunch, get the sweet potato chorizo), the views were great, and the beach was nice. I can't fault the resort for the cloudy days or the ride there from the airport (it's about 70 minutes) but they were helpful the entire time there. Definitely somewhere I would consider staying for a longer trip in the future. read more

I love this place. My family and I love going to the tiki bar. The bartenders always take care of us. Unfortunately, today I witnessed Don the bartender serve a margarita that he put his hands in to get all of the bugs out. The servers watching him didn't say a thing. It was terrible. read more

Enjoyed another Memorial Day Weekend at South Seas with the Family! Absolutely, love this resort. So kid friendly, Finally a good food option at Doc Fords. In the past, food was never a good option on the island. Doc Fords changed that. Stayed at Lands End, great views of the gulf and Golf course! Great swimming pools, Slide area is awesome! Wasnt very busy, which was nice. Rent a golf cart if you go, helps with transporting the kids around the island. Great shelling along the waters edge, fishing is a +++! I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for either a romantic getaway or a great family trip with the family! read more

Arrived on Wednesday from Hallandale beach to avoid hurricane Matthew with my two year old daughter. We stayed by the marina and our room was nice. As far as anything else at the resort I hate to say this but it was awful. The food was horrible, way over priced for what it was. We ended up going to their grocery store and got snacks and sandwiches. read more

14 of us with my husband's family spent one week here over New Year's eve. The beach is really beautiful and well kept. The pools and slides a heaven for kids. The resort is very spread out. The reception desk is almost 2 miles away from the accommodations and pools and one has to use the shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes, from one end to the other. The reception is also located near the small town of Captiva with more options for food. What we were shocked by, however, was how beat up and rather dirty the rooms were. We were in the 1800 building overlooking the inlet and the ocean. We thought we were getting nice rooms at $540/night. The furniture was absolutely basic and beat up. No glasses to drink water from, no water bottles in the room or snacks. The floors and rugs were filthy and greasy. I've never seen anything like that! I tried wiping the floor with a towel and it turned black instantly. The rugs were way their prime, beat up and filthy as well. I called the housekeeping and they cleaned up the floors and I asked to clean the bathrooms too in front of me, while I was looking. The food in the restaurants and the Ship Store was good and tasty but main courses at $30-$40 sting after a week.... I wish there were more salads and more greens or vegetarian options, not that I am a vegetarian. Simply for variety if you stay for as long as we did. I don't think we will return to this resort. read more

Amazing! I would stay there again in a heartbeat! I loved every minute! We originally booked on sanibel but it was horrible. My husband then surprised me with a weekend here and it was great. Right by the nice restaurants and little store. The beach was maybe 7 minutes way. I can't wait to go again read more

Been going to South Seas for 35 years. Can honestly say that the place is either heaven or hell, depending on what your into. Our days start with breakfast. There are a few places to sit down and eat or buy food. The breakfast buffet is excellent but at $22 a person we don't go everyday. We then spend a few hours at the beach, which is one of the best we've ever visited. They are plenty of chairs and umbrellas which are free to resort guests. There is also a bar/cafe out there if you get hungry. But at $8 just for a hot dog, we didnt do too much eating there either. Once were completely overheated from the beach we hit the pool. The pools are great and the kids love the slides. Lots of umbrellas and chairs or you can pay about $175 for a private gazebo. There is poolside service or a poolside restaurant. The food is good but the prices are again pretty high. Was $50 for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat chicken tenders and such for lunch. We then spend the rest of our day and night fishing off their t-dock. The fishing is excellent to say the least. And its truly why we go. They rent rods during the day. Also sell frozen bait at the Ship Store. But I would suggest bringing your own equipment and some clue about what to do. The resort also has golf, tennis, watersports rentals, etc. Plus there is a free trolly that takes you all around the resort. We do much of our eating off property. There are lots of cool places to eat in Captiva or nearby Sanibel. And if your staying in a timeshare at South Seas you might want to check your amenities before coming into town. We always reserve directly with South Seas reservations. But with 80+ homeowners associations within this tiny resort I can say that not all of them offer the above mentioned amenities are included or even accessible to you. Ask before you buy. My biggest criticism of the resort is the pricing. Even my reservation was way more than budgeted for, after adding the resort fees and taxes. We asked for a total when reserving and were shocked when the total at check-in was hundreds of dollars more than promised. The manager and counter staff were awesome and handled it. But I would say that it was a bit of a shock. They also run your card for a large authorization to cover what you'll spend in the cashless resort. So if your using a debit card, linked directly to your bank account, you'll kiss a few thousand dollars goodbye at check-in. We didn't have that at the time so were watching what we spent. Deposited a paycheck a day after check-in only to have them "authorize" most of it right out of our account without any notice or consent. Again, that was handled really well by the manager... but who wants to keep having to complain!! read more

What a great island get-away. Great natural beach, and island setting. Offering up the best that Captiva has to give.

I stayed there with my kids a few years back. Terrible Customer Service. I am of African American descent and I personally felt that I was not being treated with as much respect as other races at the resort. I would be told to wait for hep at the front desk while other guest walked up and got assistance immediately. Although the racist encounters were minor, this was not something I expected when I pay 600 dollars to a resort. The pool and beach were very far from our room. And there was zero sense of a beach like feel. Which my family was hoping for the vacation. The room was absolutely horrid. Completely covered in dust, and many times our room didn't get cleaned. I then returned a few months later to visit a friend staying at the resort while we stayed at Jensen's. We pulled up in bikes and I gave the unit and last name of my friends we were visiting. And the gate keeper refused to let us in, until my friends called in first but they did not have their phone on them. We were forced to wait in the hot, humid, Florida sun for about thirty minutes. A safety hazard for me and my kids. If you want to stay in Captiva I 100% recommend you to stay at Tween Waters Inn, It is much cheaper, has better service, amazing pool, easy beach access, and definitely gives off a more island vibe. And zero racist snobs. read more

We arrived here on Sunday 6/31 with two other families. Our room was just ok, but the other two rooms were updated and much nicer. Lots of standardized food selection on the resort. We went to the Harbourside Bar and Grill for an overpriced breakfast in which we had to ask twice for refills on the coffee, water and juices and that all did happen after we were done with our food. Not awesome. The worst part was that two times in our five day stay our room was not "serviced" until we called the front desk and both days the cleaning cart was on our floor cleaning one of the neighboring rooms. When we called the front desk the reply was never apologetic and then it still took 30+ minutes to get someone to bring fresh towels and make the beds. Also, this is an island with shells all over the beaches. I have young children who played in said beaches. Everyday the floors were still sandy and the bathrooms had crushed up shells pushed against the baseboards. This means the ceramic tile floors were never swept or cleaned. This is unacceptable. All in all, great weather and a pretty environment, but sub-standard service in the restaurants and condo cleaning services. read more

this is my favorite resort in captiva! we had an issue and Isobel (i hope i'm spelling that right) was so accommodating, fixed the issue, reassured that everything f would be taken care of and that it would never happen again to myself or another guest and then gave us a gift as an apology. the customer service here is unbeatable. top notch staff with great knowledge of the area, the food, the culture and the people. everything you could want is all located inside the resort or across the street. there's really no need to drive. everything here is accessible by golf cart. amazing place. read more

Captiva and Sanibel are on my family vacations bucket list so I really really wanted to like this place. This place would be best for couples without kids. The best way I could describe our trip was it was ok if you could ignore the fact that everything went wrong and that we had to pay much much more and work much harder for what would have cost less and been far more convenient at many other places. The South Seas Resort has certain nice qualities but it's very hard to overlook the many inconveniences for a very expensive vacation. We paid over $700 a night for a '3 bedroom beach villa' in the middle of January when the resort was fairly empty. For over $700 a night, I would expect room service and easy access to the nearby town and transportation around this very large and spread apart resort and just small thoughtful things that other resorts do. Cons: 1. There is no room service in this 'full service resort' and restaurants in the resort and the neighboring town close VERY VERY early-- Shocking given I'm paying over $700 a night and they have rooms that go for $1200--how can you write that you are a full service resort if you don't have room service and charge these prices?? You can imagine our shock when we arrive with our 2 kids, one newborn at 7:30 pm and get to the resort at 8:30 pm. We get to our room at about 9 pm after a slow check in and find out, there's no place to eat dinner on the resort because the only restaurant that is open is on the north end of the resort and that the trolley won't be able to get us there before closing. We find out neighboring Sanibel has two-three restaurants that are open until 10 and 11 pm, but when we call the taxi service recommended by the resort, the taxi driver refuses to take us stating that there's no point since he'll be closing shop soon. So my husband and I gave the left over pizza from the airport to the kids and we didn't eat dinner that night--while in a full service resort in the United States that we're staying at for over $700 a night--which I find ridiculous!!!!!! 2. Rent your car in Fort Myers. Neighboring town Sanibel is farther than it looks and the resort's shops are not adequate for families with young children -- We arrived 7:30 pm to Fort Myers with our 2 kids and newborn. We opted not to rent our car in Fort Myers though it is very reasonably priced, affordable ($150 for 7 days), and would turn out much much easier than in Sanibel because the staff advised us the week before "there's really no point as the car will just remained park during your stay and there's same day car rental service at the resort' and because we wanted to hurry to the resort for our sleepy kids who usually go to bed at 8. BIG MISTAKE. When we go to rent our car on site at the resort the next day, the car rental booth (which just looks like an atm machine) just reads need 24h advance notice and please call a phone number. When you call the phone number, I'm told that the next car rental they can get to the resort will be in 7 days -- i.e., one day after we leave. Maybe not a big deal, except we only packed 2.5 days worth of diapers for our 3 month old and our 2 year old and the resort has swim diapers that cost five dollars per two diapers and no regular diapers in our sons' sizes. I eventually find a car rental through Hertz in Sanibel for 2 days later (we are completely out of diapers at that point). To get to Sanibel--I get to pay a $53 cab fare and the price to rent the same car which in Fort Myers was $150 for seven days is now $150 a day. 3. Very inconvenient and missing small things -- The resort feels like a place where the staff is friendly but no one has bothered to try actually staying at the resort to ensure it is a pleasant experience. You actually have to scope out your unit on arrival to see what you need for an extended stay. So, we have a dish washer without detergent the first night, a bathroom sink that is clogged and smelly on arrival, a kitchen sink with dish soap but no sponge or towel, access to coin operated washers and dryers in the building but no clothing detergent available in the laundry area and no access to either dollar coin exchange machines or cards in the laundry rooms. So you bring your laundry to the laundry rooms and then get to walk the 15 minutes to the front desk and then walk another 5-10 min to the nearest resort convenience store to buy laundry detergent. If you decide to wait for the Trolley, you may wait 30 minutes to get to the front desk before walking another 5-10 min to the convenience store. Every day during our 6 day stay, when we went to our swimming pool, there were NEVER towels. While there are towels at the main pool, there should be towels at the other pools since this is supposedly a full service resort. Pros -- beautiful views, easy access to beach on south side of resort, lots of lovely animals on the island. Food is well cooked but expensive and 30 min+ away by trolley. read more

Harbourside bar and grill was absolutely delicious! The view showcases the marina. Service is great too. Recommend the lobster tail.

We were there with a group of boaters. Had a dinner in a rented So Seas room with our group. cost per head about $50. Worst chicken buffet for the price. Also had to pay a $17 per head RESORT FEE to use their pool, beach and spend $ at their restaurants, shops, golf course etc. a fee should NOT be charged to use the pool or beach! What next? A fee to breath their So Seas air?? There other comparable resorts on Captiva that do better and do not charge a resort fee. At So Seas if you do other than stay in your room it cost EXTRA!!! read more

Just returned from another great staycation at South Seas. From the moment we checked in, the staff was all about what they could do for us to make our stay great. We enjoyed a great 3 bedroom/2 bath condo for a memorable girls weekend. I highly suggest reserving a poolside cabana and enjoying a meal at Harbourside and Ice Cream at Scoops.
