Simply the best Fish Fry in a 10-mile radius. No question. Have tried them all. Really, every single one. Every time, perfectly cooked fish. Now, the local folks know it (and we are one), so it is always packed on Fridays. Be ready to wait to get seated if you get there after 4:30 or 5pm, but here's the good news.... they have great cheap drinks! So stop by for the Fish Fry on Friday night, have a cocktail or two, chill out a bit with your wife/date/partner/whatever, and kick off your weekend in epic local-joint style. Oh, and like the Fish on Friday, the Prime Rib on Saturday is also outstanding. A two-fer!!! read more

In town over Valentine's weekend asked around for Friday fish while staying at Lake Lawn Resort. Referral we got was to seek out the South Shore Bar & Grill. Definitely a local favorite with its usual compliment of regulars on stools looking like a scene out of Grumpy Old Men (but in a good way) with that everybody turns and looks at you when you walk in, then goes back to their business. One particular group of ladies sat off to the right at their own card table opening an endless bounty of mail from home, so it was casual to say the least. Everyone was friendly and the food was what i would call the standard Friday fish fare. Good selection of accompanying sides included with each order. Overall good food with friendly service. P.S. I think i saw the green hornet ice fishing pole from Grumpy Old Men in residence. ;) read more

Wished I found this place years ago! Really great tavern/pub just off the lake in Delavan. Truly of the best fish frys in SE Wisconsin, and all food comes with a cool little salad bar. Good food, fast friendly servers and bar tenders, and value priced. Like it so much we went back the next day after the boat and ordered pizza and wings to take home. One of my favorite local places to go to for a fish fry, but NOT a go-to place for a drink. The all-you-can-eat fish fry consists of thick pieces of cod that have a good salty taste (I like salty). The salad bar that comes with it is one of the best- with fresh cut vegetables, cheeses, and homemade sides. I'm giving it one star less because a couple of times the Bloody Mary's were un-drinkable. We wanted to try something different for dinner on a rainy Friday night and decided on the South Shore Bar and Grill since we'd never been there. We were not in the mood for a fish fry, so my husband had the patty melt on marble rye and cole slaw and I had the club sandwich and fries. Both were delicious. Our waitress was great and the clientele were very friendly. Felt right at home. Price was right, too. Very enjoyable experience. We will be back. read more

Four of us went there on Friday night...part of our Friday night fish fry survey....tough job, but.... First off.....service was EXCELLENT; young man was attentive and very through; when he bussed the table, he even wiped off the chairs! Really knew the menu too.... We all tried different variantions on the fish fry....broiled walleye; shrimp; broiled cob; and fried cod (all you can eat on the fried)....definitely in the upper quartile on each....quite a tribute to what, on the outside, looks like a dive bar! Come on in.. Bar is definitely SoWI bar....Spotted Cow and Leinie on draft with the usual suspects....Moon Man in a bottle...so I was happy. Don't ask about the wine....just those little bottles...but who drinks wine with a fish fry? Go....you'll like it. read more

We asked a local where one could get a great thin crust pizza in the Delavan area. This business was the immediate answer. Off the beaten path it is but worth the drive. Our order was for both the kids and adults. Simple, cheese, to sophisticate, loaded. They do not deliver but take phone orders for a reliable pick up time. The pies were great. read more

The service at South Shore is very good to great along with the food. The fish fry, pizza and prime rib are wonderful. Can't forget about the snow crab with the prime. We have never had a bad or even average meal. Drink prices are reasonable as they should be. It's not Lake Geneva or Chicago. The bar is nice and clean. People are mostly friendly. On a side note, the review by Dan B from 2013 is inaccurate. He has not seen this place open and close 4 times. He's not old enough to have seen it "closed". He might have meant changed hands. I think that might not even be accurate. I have been frequenting this place over 25 years and can't recall a time when the doors were shut. read more

Drove up from Rockford as we had people tell us about the Saturday Prime Rib. Well worth the trip. Seasoned crusty topside to the Prime Rib with tender meat underneath. Great tasting. Finding it harder and harder to find truly Medium Rare Prime Rib that doesn't sit under a heat lamp waiting for the waitress to get it before it gets a ashen gray. Not here. Was worried the cut was only 12 oz for 24.99 but the bartender said it is a generous 12-14 oz cut and she was correct. Casual Wisconsin bar with great food. Will definitely be back. read more

We are local but they deliberately ignore you after you sit down and take and deliver other customers that walk in after you. They were not busy. This place is awesome! Great food and a fun Wisconsin bar and grill atmosphere. The servers are always super friendly. The fish fry is really tasty, they make their own beef for their Italian beef sandwiches and their Reuben's. The pizza is thin and crispy and really good. I'm from the Chicagoland area. I've been coming up to Delavan for years. There is NO good pizza in Wisconsin....until Now! Southshore has great thincrust pizza. Atmosphere is friendly. Drinks are perfect. I always have fun here. read more

I'll try to keep it simple. Had a coupon for bogo fish dinner, of equal or lesser value. I don't eat fish, so I called and asked if it had to be fish, or if it could be another dinner. The woman who answered said yes, it could be any dinner. So my husband, adult daughter and I went Friday evening for dinner. Husband ordered walleye, my daughter an Italian beef, and I just ordered a burger and fries. Meanwhile, watched the waiter get into an argument with another customer, thought nothing of it. I realized I needed to order another drink per coupon, so when he came around again, he brought part of our food. I gave him the coupon, and he said we couldn't use it on what we had. I then told him I had called, and asked about it and was told ok. Truly no big deal, as prices were cheap. But it became more to me because I called first, and was told ok. He went away for 30 seconds, came back and said no again. He wasn't being pleasant, so my husband asked to speak to the owner, thinking maybe he was too upset from his last confrontation with a customer. The owner came out and immediately was rude and asked if I got a name of who I spoke to. I said no, she answered south shore bar and grill and I just asked her. He shook the coupon and said 'we had a meeting about this'. He seemed to imply there was no way an employee would tell us it was ok, and we had to be lying. My husband said I can't believe you talk to customers this way, and the owner threw up his hands and said 'you know what, do what you want'. So my husband ok, we will leave. So the owner said again, 'ok, do what you want'. The waiter came back over, waving his hands, and said to the owner, 'wait, wait, wait. I just found out a customer had answered the phone'. The owner walked away. No apology for being so rude and treating us like liars and like we were trying to cheat him out of a $6 burger. So we left. Left all that food sit, and go to waste. We were not rude, not loud. The way they treated us was uncalled for. By the way, my husband did try the walleye, it was very fishy, and he had a bone. And a "customer" answered the phone?
