Bring your Warranty and Maintenance booklet in with you as they are suggesting services well in advance of what's outlined in the maintenance booklet. This is a total money grab while they have you captive, sitting and waiting for your car to be ready. I will not be going to this service center again. If they cannot support their costly recommendations with evidence, say no and get a second opinion. read more

The folks here are the bomb dot com. i've purchased 2 cars from South shore and even though i live almost 3 hrs away- I ALWAYS come down to have them work on my car. i think i brought it in for 7 oil changes over the last year. even after i hit a deer and the entire front of my car needed to be replaced, i drove it 115 miles so they could handle it. I had scheduled my car for servicing online like is commonplace here in 2021. Later i find out i have to call them, what was the point of making the initial appointment then? Trying to get any answers from chatting was no help. If this is any indication of how they value the time of their customers, then you'd be well served to steer clear of this place. South Shore Subaru's technicians do sloppy work. I brought my 2015 Forester to South Shore Subaru in the fall of 2020 because it was burning a lot of oil. They did a consumption test, and a warranty engine replacement--which included re-sealing the entire engine--was approved for my car by Subaru of America. Work began in mid-December of 2020 and I got the car back in mid-January, 2021. When I inspected the car at home, I noticed a couple of empty spark plug boxes in the engine compartment, an unhooked PCV hose, and missing air conditioning service port caps. Not professional, I remarked to myself, but then I shrugged it off, planning to buy new caps for the A/C ports and forget about the rest. Within a few weeks, the car had leaked 2 quarts of oil out of the timing chain cover seal. The tech had failed to torque the cover bolts properly, resulting in a massive leak all over the exhaust system. It took months for the burnt oil smell to go away, but the dealership fixed it, and I was given a loaner during this service. A month or two later, I found that my AC system--which had worked before--no longer contained any refrigerant. The tech didn't replace the old o-rings during engine removal, and it had all leaked out. They recharged the AC and replaced the service port caps. I was given a loaner car during this service. A couple of months later, I found another oil leak--the left valve cover and oil pan gaskets this time. The dealer replaced the oil pan and valve cover gaskets again. I was given a loaner car during this service. As I was driving home from the dealership after this repair, the low oil-level light illuminated. I pulled over and checked the oil, and it was full. It took a month to fix, but the technicians again removed the oil pan to repair the sensor. I was given a loaner car during this service. Finally, in fall 2021, I was driving the car when I noticed more oil smoke coming out of the passenger-side wheel well, where oil was dripping onto the exhaust pipe. I dropped off the car at the dealership on October 20, just before leaving on a 10-day vacation. The car was not returned to me until the end of January, but I was given use of a loaner car during that time. I inspected the car after finally getting it back, and found evidence of the same sloppy work that has been a hallmark of my association with South Shore Subaru: The left cylinder head ground strap was broken, one of the wire stays that keeps the oil pressure sensor lead away from the serpentine belt had been broken off, and one of the plastic fasteners that keeps the passenger-side inner fender secured to the frame rail was missing, allowing the inner fender and bumper cover to flop around. Neither of these small parts had been replaced, although they should have been, even if it cost me something extra. Also, the front splash shield--the giant piece of plastic that covers the bottom of the engine to protect it from debris and improve fuel economy by reducing under-car air turbulence--was missing. This brings me to my main grievances against South Shore Subaru: - Poor-quality repair work: Details matter. As an automotive journalist, I tell consumers that they should expect the dealership to provide the very top level of care for their cars. When that turns out not to be the case, I feel like I've given thousands of people bad advice. Also, as someone who used to turn wrenches at a very low level, I know the absolute minimum that is expected of a technician. A dealership service department that charges patrons nearly $200 per hour should far exceed the minimum level of service, even for warranty repairs. If small parts are missing, the customer should be alerted and given the chance to have them replaced, even if the dealership isn't willing to just do it free of charge. There should not be trash inside the car or under the hood, unhooked hoses and caps, and other evidence of someone not caring about the quality of their work. - Poor communication: Phone calls and text messages sent to South Shore's service advisers usually went unanswered. When I had specific questions, or wanted to speak with someone who could have an intelligent conversation about mechanical work, I was given the runaround. I'm sure there are good Subaru service departments out there, but South Shore Subaru is not one of them. They don't seem to understand that a freebie carwash certificate and use of loaner cars are no substitute for quality repair work and a communicative staff. read more

I was thrilled to see that this dealership opened in my neighborhood. I purchased my crosstrek in Smithtown and had been traveling there for five years, for all my service. When the hybrid system warning light went on and it said to get to the dealer immediately, I was cautious, but gave them a try. I was so happy that I did! After being told by the Smithtown Subaru that my Forester was NOT part of the airbag recall even though I received several notices and continuing to put my passengers at risk, 2 years later I got an URGENT message informing me it MUST be addressed. I called South Shore Subaru Service on Sunrise Hwy in Lindenhurst and the gentleman got me in at my convenience. They could not have been nicer and more accommodating. I have also complained since the day I purchased the vehicle new that it had a very sluggish start. there were times I thought it would turn over at all. Hassett Subaru of Wantagh could not find anything wrong and shrugged it off. had it there more than once for this issue. Again, South Shore Subaru to the rescue. They knew what the problem was and fixed it. this Forester is a 2012. it has taken THIS LONG for it to be addressed. in fact, Subaru was aware of the problem due to lots of complaints so my question to Subaru, not this particular service station, is if they knew about it by reviewing customer complaints why couldn't they as easily notify everyone who complained so I didn't have to drive around for the last 2 years with this problem???? 2015 is when Subaru finally realized there was an issue and the recommendation was a simple reset of the starter computer. another existing problem with Subaru's is the headlight bulbs burn out quickly. its like every 6 months I am alternating changing them. they recommended OEM which are much more expensive than the Sylvania bulbs. They were kind enough to sell them to me at a drastic discount. I will continue to bring my vehicle here and it renews my faith in Subaru enough for me to consider sticking with Subaru for our next vehicle. THANK YOU!!!! read more

They were really great until January 2020 when they ignored my complaints and dismissed me because I am a woman. I brought my vehicle to them 8 times for the same problem first They tried to explain it away a few times as if I was a moron, and told me the bucking motion (the whole car shakes and jumps when accelerating and de accelerating) in my car that was happening was from a cup in my back seat.... then I removed the cup and they told me it was from the spare tire in my back... I removed it magically by time three they found my control arms were no longer good.. except the car was still having the same problem! I brought my car back in 8 times for the same complaint, bc that is who sold me the car and also my warranty.. well they now are refusing to service my car their concierge and auto tech separately told me they do not know how to work on my type of car! Even though they sold it to me!! If you want great service... don't go to them! I would not even buy a car from them they are a complete and total rip off as well as very unprofessional and rude. I'm actually sad to write this review because initial their was a whole different staff and they were knowledgeable and sweet. How ever I had to refrain from loosing my temper after the concierge was a condescending NASTY woman, and the service tech out right told me they don't know how to fix certain cars.. what the hell kind of excuse is that. 2 christmases back I was down from upstate and my 2014 Subaru Outback died and south shore found and fixed the problem in a few days it was the coils . I had to extend my stay and go to pharmacy for more heart meds . They gave me a rental car and did not charge me for anything the parts the repair and the rental car were completely no charge . Today I brought in my 2020 imprezza and I was going to buy brakes . They looked at pads and rotors and gave me new pads and resurfaced my rotors . The entire staff from workers to mgr helped me so much . I always come here to buy my parts because they helped me sooo much ! read more
