After a lot of research to find a new place for an eye exam, we chose SS Vision Care. This time it was an appointment for my husband. He's very picky when it comes to medical facilities. He had nothing but positive things to say about this place! From the Dr who performed the exam to her husband (?) who ordered the glasses, etc, he was 100% pleased. The glasses were available same day, which was very convenient. Only "complaint" was that it was expensive (glasses were over $200), but he said it was well worth it for the way he was treated and the experience he had. As for the Dr, she took the time to research his specific (less common) eye condition, etc, with him in the room, which he was impressed by. When it comes time for my next exam, I'll be making an appt here as well. read more

There were two reasons I selected South Shore Vision Care to get my eye exam. 1) Because they are listed as accepting VSP Insurance coverage. And 2) Because they boast on their web page that they have, quote, the "Largest selection of Costa Del Mar & Maui Jim on the South Shore. We are the Premiere Outfitter for Costa Rx and Maui Jim Rx" What they don't mention, until after the customer has gotten his eye exam, is all that bragging about being the "premiere outfitter" of Maui Jim Rx is pretty much a lie since they also will not accept ANY insurance coverage for Maui Jim prescription glasses. Why would any person without some sort of brain damage buy Maui Jim Rx glasses from these people? I just saved well over one hundred dollars by leaving their office and taking my new eye exam prescription with me and driving 6 miles down the road to Lunette Optic in Hingham to buy my Maui Jims there, where they DO accept insurance coverage towards the very glasses they display in their shop. Crazy concept huh? If they don't want to accept the insurance towards the Maui Jims maybe it would make more sense to remove them from their showroom rather that bragging that they are the "Premier Outfitters" of Maui Jim. Dr. Botello is wonderful as well as her assistant. The front desk woman is rude, kind of mean and not helpful. She refused to give me daughter a copy of her prescription because she wasn't going to buy contacts there! The glasses are ridiculously expensive. and the gentleman optician is useless! Any other place I've ever gone to, explains what frames are the best bang for your buck as well as lets you know which ones your insurance covers the most on. He never gave me a copy of my prescription and he never even fitted or adjusted my glasses when I picked them up, he simply handed them to me and sent me on my way. Very disappointing and I will not be going back. read more

Dr. Botello is extremely helpful and caring. She listens and takes the time to understand. She was also really great with my children who also really liked her a lot. Her office manager, Miriam, has always been friendly and helpful as well. Having front staff who is friendly and pleasant really makes a big difference in patient experience. I only took off one star because the frames there are expensive. While that isn't a reflection of Dr. Botello it did make it such that I had to go elsewhere to get my prescription filled, which was just inconvenient. read more

Have previously visited this business and had a good experience. This morning has changed my mind and I will not be supporting this business again. After booking an appointment in which I would have to pay out of pocket because they don't accept my insurance, I called my insurer and found out that I have secondary coverage. SSVC accepts the secondary coverage. When I called back to discuss, the woman became snippy. Reception hung up on me multiple times and would not listen. She also refused to provide the name of her boss in order for me to complain about the experience. She kept repeating that "I am the supervisor". It was clear that she was more concerned with being right than being helpful. This kind of attitude kills businesses. I would be happy to speak with the owner to explain what went wrong with this interaction. I have now made an appointment elsewhere and this company has lost my business. There is no need for such an attitude from the staff. read more
