Big. Clean. Efficient. That the whole review. I'm kidding, but it could be. For many, myself…read moreincluded Vancouver international was my introduction to Canada...atleast since childhood. After navigating the maze to customs (typical), while absorbing a bit of the cultureI arrived to a surprisingly calm, low stress process to baggage. I walked right up to a customs kiosk, chose my preferred language, answered the typical questions, snapped a pic and received a slip of paper. That paper went to an officer and I was on my way. No fuzz, no language barriers, no targeted "intimidation intending"!interrogation, no stare downs...can you tell I've recently been to Germany? Just peace, and honesty, it looked to be that way for most everyone who passed through. Our return trip to Houston I was reminded that as a country, we've pissed Canada off. My husband was randomly selected for additional screening...okay, but then my bag was super searched. The same one with the same items I've carried to 6+ other countries in the last couple of years

I do appreciate that trams are not needed to transfer you to the different airlines , just a LOT of walking between the four levels. -Level one is a service plaza with restaurants and convenience stores -Level two is for domestic and international arrivals with baggage carousels. -Level three is for domestic and international departures. -Level four is where you can catch the Canada line Skytrain. The Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel is conveniently connected for to travelers. It's just a five to ten minute walk away. This airport has won awards for its special nature inspired West Coast design. Highlights include an aquarium with 800 animals, a creek, Indigenous sculptures and totem poles throughout the airport. As with all airports, it is congested at times but being the second busiest international airport in the country, I expect this.

Of course, my first instinct was to look for local bus companies that could get us to Vancouver with all of our luggage. I had a difficult time! Everyone that took the time to respond (sadly, not many) told me that their insurance didn't allow them to travel to Canada. So, I picked another route and started calling companies in BC. Eventually I came across Perimeter Transportation. I sent an email explaining that we needed a bus that could accommodate at least 19 people with luggage and that we needed to be picked up in downtown Seattle at a parking lot near the cruise ship terminal and taken up to Canada Place cruise ship terminal in Vancouver. Not only was the pricing extremely competitive (made even better by the exchange rate at the time), but the customer service was impeccable. All of my emails were answered promptly and when I'd call, they very quickly located my information and were super helpful. At one point, they had emailed me to confirm an address and didn't hear back. They called and left me a voicemail. They never dropped the ball. A few days prior to our trip, I called to confirm (as I'd booked this a month out) and they knew exactly who I was, confirmed the pick up address etc. The morning of departure, when we arrived at the parking lot, the bus was already there waiting for us. The driver loaded the luggage and got us on the road. Our driver was perfect!! He was friendly, he was funny, he was unobtrusive yet super informative and engaging. If I ever need transport for a group to BC again, Perimeter will be my first phone call. Thank you Perimeter for letting us turn you into a party bus for a few hours!

I booked yesterday, had my plans change so called today (Tues) to cancel a Thursday night booking and was told no dice. Reviews for transit companies are kind of like writing in diaries. Only terrible, sad and…read moreunfortunate experiences are noted and reviewed. I love taking the skytrain. Affordable, timely, spacious and clean. Damn efficient I may add. Let's just put it this way, if I were to drive from Coquitlam to Vancouver during rush hour, it would give me a numbing irritable experience as likely I would to have deal with impatient drivers, stuck in grid lock and deal with bumper to bumper traffic. Hop on the skytrain then take the connecting bus, no headache and no stress. And it is even FASTER and CHEAPER!!! So what is there not to like. Sure, the impatient teenager me once thought riding transit was terrible, cuz I haven't yet been stuck on Highway One due to some jackass thought he was clever and can be quick weaving in and out finally causing a multiple pile-up blocking all lanes. I'll take the skytrain over driving any day especially during rush hour.

Finally, a decent way to get from downtown Vancouver. Sure we're all paying through the nose for…read morethis line, but I'm sure most people would agree that this line is WAY overdue. With that said, I still can't believe they had to tear up those brand new bus lanes running (they were there for less than 2 years) down No.3 Road. The stations are nice and clean, though their size leaves much to be desired. There is barely enough room to stand around on the platforms. The trains are wider than those of the Expo line, but they're also much shorter (2 cars instead of 4). Also you can tell they cheaped out when the stations on the Richmond side literally jut out onto the freaking street. Would it really have cost that much more to slide the entire station 3m to one side? One thing I always like to do is sit at the front of the trains and look out the front window. If you haven't done this before, it's actually pretty cool. The biggest complaint I have about the Canada Line is the fact that the trains only run every 10 minutes or so. Compare that to the Expo Line (1 every 2 minutes) during rush hour. Having the signs that show the ETA of the next train is nice, but it really sucks when you look up and see that you still have to wait 7 minutes. And this is assuming you're not going to Richmond, because now there's a chance you're going to wait (literally) twice as long. With that said, the YVR leg is awesome. Vancouver is now the only Canadian city to have a direct rapid transit link to the downtown core. I'm sure many of the cabbies out there aren't too happy about this. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
