My first visit the place was beautifully appointed, we were greeted warmly and sat pretty quickly. Our server was lovely. We started with cocktails which were great. As for our meal the food was just lacking, everything was missing flavor. I ate a couple bites but decided early on that it was a miss for me. On my most recent visit I actually ordered the 6oz. Ribeye with whipped potatoes and asparagus (so I thought and to be fair I could be wrong) but came with broccolini instead. I'm not a fan of broccolini and I'm not sure I would have ordered the meal that included it. In total it took about an hour to receive my food I kid you not. I inquired about it a couple times with the bartender who walked back to the kitchen to check. Each time I was assured it was coming. I was served what can only be called chargrilled hotdog buns as I waited. Maybe not actual hotdog buns but looks and texture wise? Hot dog buns lol. Super charred and dry no butter no olive oil just grilled hot dog buns. So bizarre. I think the bartender forgot to put the order in hence the long wait. When it arrived my ribeye had been butterflied to cook quicker (which I can only assume by the appearance). The steak was cooked perfectly, so no complaints there. The meat wasn't particularly seasoned and look people I'm not expecting the stars and the moon, I was starving and I'm a reasonable person so just a pinch of salt and pepper would have done the trick but for $68 I wanted a better meal. The mashed potatoes were seasoned to perfection so I just ate the under seasoned steak with the perfectly seasoned potatoes and made it work (see totally reasonable lol). And that broccolini? Surprising good so no complaints there. All and all there are just better places to dine. Is the place beautiful? Sure but if I go to a restaurant I want the food to be the star of the show. Not sure I'd try a third time but I'm glad I tried again even if the experience left much to be desired.

The Short Ribs were fall off the bone tender, juicy with a great tasteful gravy. He was sweet, engaging, and checked in on us often. He kept welcoming us back to visit again. That's the southern hospitality we keep hearing about. Food was delicious. They had a really good spring salad with fresh peas, asparagus, radishes and a Dijon vinaigrette. We all went back for that twice (buffet style). They served roasted lamb with a mint chimichurri style sauce. It was cooked very well. Shrimp and grits were fresh and flavorful. I highly recommended coming here. I had the Mr. B's Burger with sweet potato fries, and it was more than enough for my wife and me to split. The bartenders were excellent and attentive, and the kitchen was quick and generous. The atmosphere was relaxed, the people were friendly, and nobody seemed to be in a hurry--which is exactly how things ought to be in Barnwell. A few tables over, problems were being solved, fish were getting bigger with every retelling, and at least one expert was explaining how he could have coached the Gamecocks to a winning season if only they'd asked. It had that comfortable hometown feel where everybody either knows your name or knows somebody who does. Good food, cold drinks, friendly faces, and enough local storytelling to qualify as an oral history project. If you're looking for fancy, keep driving. If you're looking for a place where the burger is honest, the fries are plentiful, and the conversation is free, pull up a chair. You'll fit right in.

Desserts included banana pudding, red velvet cake, and a Lane cake. Everyone in our party had the fried chicken although a few samples the fried fish. It was all very tasty and fresh. Between eight of us, we tried everything and all was declared delicious. We didn't get a chance to get seconds because the church folks showed up in droves and the line was out the door! The ambiance was nice and the waitresses checked on us and refilled our drinks regularly although they were very busy.
