I had a very frustrating experience with Southeast Urology, and I would not recommend this office. The front desk staff is consistently rude and unhelpful and after reading other reviews, it's clear this is an ongoing issue, not a one-off situation. The bigger problem came when my prescription dosage was handled incorrectly. I had to go back and forth between the doctor's office and the pharmacy multiple times trying to get it corrected, which should never happen. When I tried to resolve the issue, the office manager got on the phone and immediately became confrontational. She talked over me, raised her voice, and when I tried to speak up just to be heard, she threatened to discharge me from the practice. Shortly after, I was in fact discharged, and my prescription was canceled at the pharmacy. At no point did anyone take accountability for the mistake or attempt to resolve the situation professionally. Based on my experience and the number of similar complaints about staff behavior I strongly recommend going somewhere else for care. read more

Dr. Simoncini was great, I was comfortable, well informed, and the procedure was painless. His bedside manner was great, and I'd highly recommend him. Be prepared to wait, the whole day took about 2 hours. I was worried about the procedure, but after it I can say there is nothing to fear. read more

My overview (& the survey I filled-out) of experience with Southeast Valley Urology (480) 924-7333 1501 North Gilbert Rd Suite 204    Gilbert, AZ, 85234 Dr. Frank Simoncini REVIEW 4-21-23 Doctor needs to be more engaged (knowing it could have been an off-day [everyone has]). He performed a DRE (DigitalRectalExam) & said "nothing" -- WHAT!? -- some response was in order. Still wondering what, if anything, he felt/discovered.... Dr. left the room w/o any exit info; we sat wondering if he was coming back. Staff was superb. Afterwards, had a general feeling that Dr. Frank is ONLY INTERESTED in helping those who Fit-Within-His-MO* of invasive treatments -and- with the advertisements/brochures throughout, it felt as though those kick-back treatments were why he is in business (*his MO). i was a patient of dr shaba for about 4 years and he was always very caring until this past dec19th2024 when i had the green laser surgery and then i was having serious issues the next day where i had to go to the emergency room to see what was going on with the catheter and then on the monday, i had the catheter removed and told him what i was experiencing and asked him for some antibiotics to help me & told me no,so i went for a second opinion to another urologist who had after examining me , gave me some samples to try besides a prescription and then i called dr shaba to let him know that & because i went for a second opinion and recieved medication that he doesn't want me as a patient anymore and the other doctor couldn't even believe that he would not see me and the other sad thing is that after the surgery was done, dr shaba never even bothered to see me or tell me that everything went well, not professional that he just left and also he was running behind schedule and nobody at the facility would keep me posted. read more

If you're looking for a urologist, keep looking. Dr. Shaba is careless and could care less about the costly mistakes inflicted on patients for routine procedures. Multiple overnight stays in the ER due to complications that could have been easily avoided. If you like living on the edge, love pain, and multinight stays in the ER, and a Dr. with terrible bedside manner he might be the Doc for you. read more

While accompanying my wife on one of her visits to Dr Simoncini I saw information on UroLift. After years of suffering with BPH for years because I feared the TURP procedure, Dr Simoncini patiently and thoroughly explained the UroLift option examining me to determine if I was a viable candidate. Once confirmed, I proceeded. Even though there was discomfort Dr Simoncini had advised I would experience for a few days after, I just completed my 5 week follow up today and I could not be happier. I have experienced a dramatic improvement to my symptoms. His team was extremely compassionate and Dr Simoncini conitinues to exceed my expectations in all categories, skill, communication, and 'bedside manor'. I'm so grateful to have found him. Dr Simoncini has performed 2 unsuccessful prostate procedures. A Urolift January 2018 and a TURP December of 2019. Prostate symptoms have returned and Dr Simoncini is too busy to take 5 minutes consult over the phone. I am 1,000 miles away and would appreciate being able to get advice from him for how to proceed. Getting past a screening receptionist is impossible. Receptionist states that if a period of 2 or more years has lapsed since any care was given, then Dr. Somoncini's policy is that they are considered to be a new patient. First procedure (Urolift) was done at the recommendation of Dr Simoncini. In retrospect it is apparent it was a quick way to make 20 grand for an in office procedure, which didn't last a year. The Gold Standard (Simoncini's description) performed December of 2019, has lasted 3 years. Since I'm now categorized as a new patient, it's back to the end of the line. If this is the type of doctor's bedside manner of caring is what you are looking for, by all means Dr Simoncini and his caring staff is the ticket. John McDowell read more

Dr Simoncini performed my vasectomy 8 days ago at the time of this review. I wanted to wait to see how the recovery went before I posted a review. The only discomfort I felt was receiving the anesthesia and that wasn't very bad at all. The recovery has been very bearable with only the occasional discomfort which usually only lasts for a few minutes and as long as I seem to be able to keep my mind on other things I feel no pain or discomfort at all. I haven't even had to use my pain meds or an ice pack. The doctor was very personable and answered all of my questions during the procedure. He seemed to have a very good sense of humor considering what his hands were on during our conversation. Fingers crossed that everything continues this smooth. read more

Not sure what the deal is with all the negative reviews for Dr Shaba ... I've had nothing but good experiences with him... He's treated me for a couple of different things and is always friendly as well as the staff is very friendly and professional and courteous... I will admit sometimes there is a pretty long wait but what doctors office doesn't have you wait? Dr. Simoncini is awesome. I had numerous kidney stones last year (over 10+). Thanks to his help, I haven't had any in months. The pain I experienced from them was something I never wish on anyone. I'm just happy I found a knowledgeable doctor with a desire to help me promptly & answer all my questions & concerns. I went to this office 3 months ago, April 2019, for an ongoing urinary tract infection. I had 3 prior to this as well. I tested my urine at home, 1 day, before going their, it showed 100% positive for infection. I was an RN for 7 years on a medical surgical floor in a hospital in New York, many years ago, also a Pharmaceutical sales representative in the 1980's. I told the office I had no specialty doctor, lab testing,diagnostic testing, insurance coverage. I emphasized, I have to pay out of pocket for this visit,please no texts, just exam by the doctor to see if I have an urine infection. The in office test is not expensive, I wanted to just get a urine culture that also wasn't that expensive sent out from this office, then go on medication to clear the infection, till I get better health insurance in 3 months. I gave a sample of urine so they could test it for an infection.The doctor came in said I don't have an infection,no need to send it out for a culture either. I said how could that be, I tested my urine at home showed positive for infection,he again stated, no infection seen by their in office urine test. I told him to send the urine out for culture anyway to know what drug to treat the infection if it comes back positive. I went home right after this office visit, tested my urine again, it came back 100% positive for infection. I called the office told them this, asked can the doctor order something till the culture come back he said wait for it to come back,it came back 100% positive. I was really angry with this doctor, how he treated my situation,the office manger was rude after i complained to her that the doctor told me I didn't have an infection,left me for 3 days longer after I had the infection for 2 weeks with out any medication.The office kept billing my insurance company when I told them specialty doctors, and it took them 3 months to send me a bill. This office is horrible I wouldn't suggest anybody go here, at least not for something simple, the doctor and office are incompetent,office manger is rude. Their testing is flawed for in office Urinary infections or the person doing the testing is not trained properly. If i didn't tell the doctor to send the urine out for a culture i would have been back in the office for a more severe issue like a kidney infection, because he wasn't going to treat me for a urinary infection,didn't think I had one., I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone.Good luck if you go here read more

I had Dr Shaba do a vasectomy and I couldn't be happier! Him and his staff really made me feel comfortable before the procedure and it went better than I could have hoped for! Also, i have heard from several friends that their doctors made them feel bad for wanting to do a vasectomy and Dr Shaba was not like that at all. Dr. Shaba is a terrific doctor. Unfortunately the two women at the front desk were NOT FRIENDLY OR CARING. I have changed urologists due to the front desk staff being so sour. I don't need that kind of treatment nor do I deserve that kind of attitude from a Doctor's front desk. I will not be going back to see Dr. Shaba because of the front office staff. Had a procedure in 2013 with Dr. Croushore. Apparently I had to have the procedure redone. Dr. Croushore retired. Dr. Shabba said he'd redo the procedure as a courtesy. My referral was from the VA and it included 3 follow ups. That was back in 2013. Had the new procedure done in 2015. Had one follow up and I am billed. What? The billing lady is unprofessional and robotic. Why not bill me for the whole procedure if it wasn't covered? Obvious clerical error, but talking to the billing lady here is pointless. Also, this place will charge you 38 bucks for saying, "don't smoke." Dr. Shabba is good at what he does, but he needs to crack the whip on the receptionist and the billing lady. Nurses are good here also. I'd go somewhere else if given the choice again based solely off of the unprofessional and sketchy charges. read more

First thing I appreciate about this office is the acknowledgement of the situation I was in when I called for an appointment this morning. They knew right away by my diagnosis by the ER where I was seen over the weekend for a 7.3mm kidney stone, as to why I would like to be seen right away. They were able to get me in within 4 hours! I didn't care if there was a wait in the office, or if the receptionist was less than excited to see me. Dr Shaba was very prompt, listened to what I had concerns with and addressed everything, as well as suggested the best option for a procedure. Also mentioned the blood test for parathyroid condition if you have had gallstone/kidney stones in the past to curb any more in the future! I do NOT want to go through the same pain I experienced over the weekend that took me to the ER. Right now i'm waiting for my procedure to be scheduled. My husband had an appointment and was treated very rudely by the office staff. He walked out after refusing to fill out repetitive paperwork and provide SSN. Prior to walking out, he asked her for his drivers license and insurance card and she said "I'll give it back when I'm ready". She was reading a magazine and chatting about personal stuff with her colleagues. Another patient had been waiting for 45 minutes and was told he could leave as well if he didn't like the wait. I was fine with the treatment I received initially. When I read the claim on my insurance company's website I was shocked to see I had been billed $38 by Dr Shaba for cessation of tobacco counseling. I haven't smoked since 1992. I talked to his office and they said that he had told me "Not to start smoking again" during my office visit. Really??? $38? Makes me wonder whether the additional tests he wanted to do on me were indeed necessary? In my opinion they practice deceptive billing at best and some would call them thieves. read more

Came here battling my third kidney stone in two years. Have had my PCP and another doc tell me I have high blood calcium as if it is not a big deal. This has likely been a contributing factor to my stone production so I let Dr Shaba know. He quickly pointed out that high blood calcium is not normal and we need to address my parathyroid. I have brought this up to two other doctors now that have acted as if I am trying to do their job and not explored the situation any further. Dr Shaba called it on the first visit, as soon as I mentioned it. This tells me that his knowledge spans far beyond others in his field when it comes to my condition. If you have ever had a kidney stone pass you know how bad the pain is, Dr Shaba and his staff made it quick and easy for me not only in getting me through this stone, but taking strides to stopping them from forming. I highly recommend the staff at Southeast Valley Urology, especially Dr Shaba, for any of your needs in this field of medicine. You guys/gals are awesome! read more

Doctor Shaba was great. I had a vasectomy. Surgery was perfect. No issues. Office manager misquoted my patient responsibility by more than double. Never presented me with a bill that reflected what I already paid. She was also a nasty person to deal with. She blocked my attempt to discuss my bill with the doctor so I was forced to pay an amount that I disagreed with. Missy turned me from a satisfied patient who was referring new patients to a person who created a yelp account just to warn people about my experience. read more
