I was diagnosed with my second bout of kidney stones on 02/14/2024 via contrast CT at around 6 pm. I was prescribed 3 medications at the emergency room. Those medications were Flomax to help pass the stone, Percocet 5/325 for pain, and a third medication for nausea associated with the pain meds. The emergency room physician gave me 24 of the Percocets and indicated that I should take (2) every 4-6 hours. I was given a Urology Referral that wasn't close to my house and would not have been able to give me an appointment for close to a month so I decided to get proactive, go online, and find my own Urologist. I found Southwest Urologic Specialists online and was happy to find out that they accepted my health insurance and were also able to get me in the next day on 02/15/2024. My initial experience was very positive. I met with Samantha Windatt, FNP-BCn, and found her to be empathetic, knowledgeable, and friendly. She reviewed my Contrast CT which was sent over from the emergency room and confirmed my original diagnosis - a ~3mm kidney stone. She sent me home with another prescription of pain meds (times 24 pills) as well as some naproxen. I called back in to talk with the NP but was only able to reach her assistant. This is where things very quickly got strange. The assistant pretty much immediately accused me of drug-seeking behavior and told me that my request was very much concerning to her". I remained calm and professional, which I always do, even tho this was both unprofessional and offensive given the nature of my affliction - and asked her repeatedly to give some thought to what she was saying. She only dug her heels in from there and even called me back to let me know that I would not be getting a prescription at my appointment the next day either. That was the point when I decided to write this review to make sure my experience was documented for other potential patients to see. There is NOTHING I can think of that is more miserable or debilitating out of any of the non-life-threatening afflictions - than kidney stones. The instructions from both the emergency room physician and Nurse Windatt were to take the pain meds every 4-6 hours. I am no mathematician but I guess you can determine appropriate use one of two ways - either by calculating dosing the pain meds every 4, or every 6 hours. If we take the 15th of February as Day 1 and the 20th of February as Day 6 and assume either 12 or 8 doses of the pain meds per day then you understand very quickly that neither scenario suggests drug-seeking behavior. 6-hour dosing intervals of two pills at a time as prescribed times 6 days would be 48 pills in total, while 4-hour dosing intervals of two pills at a time as prescribed times 6 days would be 72 pills. I had exactly 48 in total. Maybe I am seeing this all incorrectly - but I don't understand why a medical assistant who isn't licensed as a nurse or physician would see it her place to assess a patient. From a healthcare-focused business operator's perspective - this is not the way I would want my employees or partners representing my brand if I were responsible for an otherwise really well-run and seemingly very busy Urology practice. I guess the part that bothered me the most was that I didn't get to speak with a physician, not with the NP. and I was effectively accosted TWICE by an assistant - and she called me back to validate her original position somehow by telling me that I would not be getting a prescription at my next appointment. Sort of the "let me show this drug seeker" approach - rather than calmly referring to the policy if this was a policy issue - and telling me that I would be reassessed at the next appointment. Pain is subjective - and I found it strange that a medical assistant determines what a patient can or cannot handle pain-wise rather than focusing on scheduling the next appointment. I will be returning only to speak with someone in patient care and will look to be treated elsewhere. Luckily my stones should be clearing any minute. read more

Do yourself a favor and find a better urology center for care. This office will surprise you with a balance from prior visits that date YEARS back. Meanwhile will still see you in office without letting you know you owe money or that your insurance isn't covering your visits. They will try to say they mailed you an invoice even though they email them.. Very disappointing the way the office is ran, especially in the billing department. Patients are looking for care! Not to be ripped off. Taking $20 off a balance from almost three years ago isn't doing any favors. The favor would have been to let the patient know they had a balance at current appointments or via email or snail mail. Not send an email YEARS later saying it's the patients responsibility to make sure your insurance is still in network WHILE YOURE ALREADY A PATIENT. Not sure what the insurance coordinator job is or the billing departments. Do better southwest urologic center. read more

This was my first time here and I saw Mitchell Heide. He was amazing! He was very personable and professional. He was easy to talk to and I felt comfortable the entire time. He actually listened to my history and did a through exam. I've been unlucky enough to need a urologist since my early 30's and I've been to several. My last experience with another urologist was so bad that I stopped going altogether for fear of at best another mediocre provider to down right negligence which caused me to get quite ill. I was impressed by this office the moment I walked in. Its inviting and well decorated. The front office staff is welcoming and efficient. Mitchell recommended an ultrasound and told me to see the front office staff to get the info. Not only did she ask where I wanted to go, she made the appointment for me right then and there! That's never happened in my life at any Doctor office. I would highly recommend this office and I have NEVER said that about any urologist I've ever been to until now. read more

BEWARE of this Dr's office. I had a procedure in July 2016. They sent me one bill after, then didn't send another for over A YEAR AND A HALF. Then sent me to collections (while I gathered previous insurance info and EOBs) and charged me a 40% premium on the amount due. I called multiple times to make the payment in full (for the original amount owed) and they wouldn't let me. Mitchell is extremely knowledgeable and thorough, keeping the patient well-informed and respectful of the patient, putting information threads together for a clear view of his thoughts, direction of treatment, any problems you may be facing and what to do next. The office staff is kind, compassionate, assertive but not invasive. One thing - I wish I had been given information about how to set up the patient portal account through the Healow app. Thats not enough of a reason to not justify five stars though. read more

I needed to see a urologist due to some weird looking urine I noticed. I used mapquest. This placed popped up as being about a mile from my house. I called them to make an appointment. The receptionist answered the phone. I tell her I need to see a urologist and try and make an appointment. She starts drilling me about what my medical condition was. I say, can I just get an appointment so I can talk to a doctor about my concerns. Nope. She wasent having that. She again asks what's the reason. I finally just tell her that she's not a doctor and its basically against the law to reveal medical decisions to someone who isnt medically trained. Again she persists. She says she needs to know exactly what my specific urology issue was. She said all of them are specific . I say, yeah, I know they are specific that's why I contacted a urologist office! At this point, after refusing to tell her my exact complaint medically, she simply hangs up on me!!! I wonder if the doctors in that practice know or realize that she's breaking a federal HIPPA law with people that are calling in. She's extremely rude and I'd have her immediately removed from dealing with the public. She's a disgrace to the office there, that's for sure. In case someone from that facility actually cares and reads this. This happened in December 16th at about 430 in the afternoon . Maybe you can track down who was answering the phones at that exact time. That lady is potentially driving away a lot of potential revenue and patient's. I'm 72 and have outstanding insurance with medicare topped with a medicare supplement from Mutual of Omaha. Perfect revenue client to those in the business of running a medical practice. Get rid of this employee immediately. She's rude, nasty and as I said before a disgrace to your business. Would NOT recommend this to guys who are getting a vasectomy. I met up with these guys three times. The first time was for a consultation. I had several questions for him even; I even had them written down in my pocket. They were simple easy questions. I was only able to ask two of my questions. I thought he was pretty busy because the lobby was very full that day. I just kind of felt like I paid my co-pay for only two questions and for my exam. The second time was the procedure for my vasectomy. During the operation, he started on the right side. Everything I researched matched everything I felt from other guys' experiences online. Then when he got to the left side, I had a severe pain. The pain was so severe, I yelled out. After the procedure was done he got up and told me he wanted to see me in two weeks. He didn't offer me enough time to ask him any questions! What was the deal with the pain in my left testicle? Why did it not hurt on my right side as much as my left side? The pain was excruciating! After this procedure I did feel uncomfortable which is normal. My right side healed quickly. My left side was very swollen for about 3-4 days after the procedure. My recommendation for anybody that gets a vasectomy take a week off of work. They will recommend you to only take 2 days off. Do not just take two days off of work. My third visit was a post vasectomy check up two weeks later. I checked myself in. No one was in the lobby. So to my thinking I don't think there would be any rush with my appointment. I felt I was going to be able to ask post procedure questions. I was able to ask two questions with no problem. During my third question, he interrupted, and said, "through that door to your left. " I wasn't done asking my questions! I asked the question a second time, and he was able to give me an answer. I still had a couple more questions. Then he said again "Through that door to your left," and then he left room. Customer service/bedside manner of this particular doctor was horrible. I felt as if he did not have time for me and my specific needs and questions. I'll leave this on a positive note I hope their Medical Assistant gets a well deserve raise. She was very personable and delivered fantastic customer service. read more

I just had a prostectomy, due to prostate cancer. Paid in advance, was as told except the amount of urine leakage after catheter removal. They say you will have leakage, but not to the extent and duration that I am going through. It's humiliating and a complete limit on even leaving the house. Wished for more disclosure, cancelled my appointments, am done. If it doesn't get better I guess I made the wrong choice. read more

We waited for 40 minutes and because we had a 1 pm apt at another doctor, we asked several times how long it would be and were finally told it would be 1230 when we actually would see the PA, 2 hours after we checked in. I wanted to switch to Dr Worishek.for treatment of a condition and called the office. They told me that to do this, I needed to get copies from my Urologist. So I take off an afternoon, drive to Scottsdale, get copies, drive to this place, and they tell me I will get a call in 3-5 business days. I wait 8 days, and call...no luck. I drive back up there and talk to one of the MA's. I explain I need treatment, when will they call. I am promised I will get a call by the end of the day. No call. Another week goes by. I drive up there. They have no reason or apology for not calling. Apparently people who need treatment dont need coutesy and its ok to jerk them around with demands for paperwork and driving all over the valley. The most unprofessional and irresponsible offices I have ever dealt with. read more

The physicians assistance are good, but it would be nice to see a doctor more than once in 12 times. Thanks for wasting a month of my time and a month of my medical insurance fees that have now gone unused...... (Before you read this, please understand that this is front office based, not care based, the PA, Christine was awesome) I called to follow up over a week prior to my appointment to be sure that all of the necessary paper work was in place and the approval was on track with Blue Cross Blue Shield. I was told that yes, all of the paperwork is in just waiting for approval. Fast forward a week and two days to the day before my appointment, (today, my appoint WAS tomorrow), I was called and told that I need to agree to lab fees and that they are ordering my medication. I asked if there was an approval and was informed, "not yet, still waiting on insurance". So I called BCBS to give them grief, but BCBS informed me that they had informed SW Urology that the claim was denied. So SW Urologic had planned to schedule me on a denied claim, knowing I would have to come out of pocket around $1,000 instead of $100, but didn't bother to tell me. BCBS further informed me that SW Urologic had not sent over the historical docs that are required for approval. So I called my previous doctor to see if they had sent them to SW Urologic, they said they had not heard from them.... they probably hadn't because my previous doc was having technical email issues, but that doesn't really matter as SW Urologic said they have everything, and when asked didn't do their due diligence to get the documents needed, completely dropped the ball. So I called back to SW Urologic to get the process moving as it should have a week ago when I did my follow up call, and I got the "office manager", Dr. Worischeck's wife, she was Not a nice person, not helpful and claims ZERO responsibility. When I followed up a week ago and they KNEW they didn't have the docs and hadn't submitted them, they should have followed up then, but did not, because the office manager (Dr. Worischeck's wife) claims that they are not responsible. Repeatedly telling me that they are not the ones holding this up, deflecting responsibility again and again saying that my previous doctor's office was to blame!? Well, The previous doctors office is not getting the approval for this procedure, SW Urologic is. When you have failed and are responsible for the failure, own it and fix it. Don't point fingers like a child or lazy employee, or lazy spouse. Horrible customer service, horrible attitude and a business that I will not visit again unless that "office manager" is no longer there, being a wife, this is not likely to happen anytime soon. We can all hope for a divorce I guess.... I would advise you to look elsewhere, there are better people to deal with everywhere and there are dozens of offices accepting new patients. I would also advise SW Urologic to find a new "office manager", she has driven my business away permanently. Now I have to find another office and go through the INSURANCE's month long process to get my care..... Hope she has as bad a day as I am because of her personality and attitude. People that have to earn a living do not treat people that way. That's why nepotism is always a bad idea when it comes to business, in this case I'm sure there is no recourse or corrective actions against her so her behavior will never change. This situation just cost them a few thousand worth of business a year from me alone. Arrogance and condescension is not a selling point and is not "earning" business... read more

I can't seem to reconcile why Dr Worischeck has been given any negative ratings. Admittedly his ratings were a big fear going into this; but my experience at this clinic and with Dr W has been nothing but excellent. I visited the ER on Thanksgiving Day and was diagnosed with three kidney stones, one that was rather large. I called this office first thing Monday morning and given the nature of my call, they were able to schedule me to see PA Mitchell by 1130am. Mitchell was just as professional and thorough as any doctor I've ever seen and I'm so very grateful to have had him. Thanks to him and their wonderful Surgery Scheduler Cammy (seriously she's a saint for SO many reasons), I had an appointment for surgery within an hour for 7am the next morning. I knew Dr W was going through his own personal emergency so when I met him the next morning I was delighted to find that he was very friendly, kind, thorough and concerned for me as this was a delicate process. While I hope I never will have to use Dr W again (...unfortunately I probably will), I have full faith in everyone from his schedulers, EKG tech and medical staff, to handle my emergencies with the utmost care. Don't waist your time or money to be seen in this office. I wanted to be seen as a new patient because I'm suffering in pain from multiple stones in both kidneys. Since I was seen by another doctor in Phoenix they requested my records. They got my records and a few days later I received a call by the office stating the doctor refused to see me. Omg I've never been so insulted! It tells you these doctors have zero compassion for patients that are in pain. At this point I'm glad I found this out sooner than later. First of all, let me explain that I am 66... but NOT ON MEDICARE! My wife got promoted to the area with her job, I was allowed to follow and make my home my office. Blessed... Almost 4 weeks ago, I began having flu like symptoms, ache all over, sever joint pain, and then suddenly, really slow urinary stream with a lot of pain. I try not to go to doctors, till I really have to. Ended up in an urgent care one evening since I could hardly move. (that urgent care is another story.) Although they told me my urinalysis came back clear, they suggested a specialist. I had already made my mind up about that one. So, over the weekend (with Cipro in hand) I started looking on the web. Guess what Phoenix.... there aren't a lot of urologists or urology groups, that have great ratings in Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, areas... I chose Southwest since it looked like their reviews and one Dr. in particular had half way decent reviews. So I called on Monday. I was asked if it was an emergency... I told them no but described the symptoms... they told me since it was "spring break" (basically a nice name for Snowbird season.) that it would be 3 weeks before I could get in. I told them that I didn't really think I had 3 weeks and other than fly home to my state known urologist in Peoria Illinois, then I would look elsewhere. To their credit, they did come up with a possibility 10 days late. I was looking forward to getting established with a good urologist since in my life I had off and on prostrate problems but hadn't had any flare ups in a few years. Let me start the office visit part of this by saying.. STAFF - really friendly and efficient. DOCTOR... Professional. I was early so that I could fill out forms. (I should say that during the phone conversation trying to get the appointment, I was asked 3 times whether I was on medicare) My appointment was 1:30... I was in the exam room close to 2.. (not bad) great staff there also. Dr. comes in, very serious... introduces himself....has my chart and my notes on current and former urology / male concerns... and asks what's going on... interrupted a couple of times.. not to clarify but to ask another question... (guess I wasn't quick enough for him) I answered his questions.. told him about the urgent care visit... he did ask if they checked me for prostrate concerns, I told him no that the Dr. there didn't act like she could care less. He made some comment something like.."they aren't qualified to check..." or something.. asked a few more questions.... then told me he wanted to check everything. Keep in mind he hasn't asked or mentioned past history which is on his sheet... He checked me... told me my prostrate was enlarged.. and started rattling off medications..(more cipro) and flomax... Stood and said he wanted to see me in 3 months.. Handed me a 'script' and said good bye.. Before he walked out I said something about my past prostrate concerns.. he then looked at the chart and said.."Oh.. since 2014"... I said "NO since 1981 to 2014..." (very clear on the chart) And let's be clear about this...the visit wasn't that long and I had the distinct feeling he was wanting out of there so he could move on.. Then, when checking out.. he came out with another 'script' he had either forgotten or didn't write while I was in the room. As I said, he was professional... but I will not be back.. due to the fact I am NOT a piece of meat to be run through at a set frequency. My former urologist was one of the best in the state... he was busy also.. he had a hospital that told him he needed to meet quota's.... but... he treated his patients with respect and took time to ask questions and not make them feel like they were just a means to an end. And... I took the 'scripts / prescriptions' to the pharmicist and they ended up having to call the Dr. the next day because one of his scripts didn't make sense and they refused to fill it like he wrote it.. Maybe it was their fault.. but... COME ON.. are you in that big of hurry?????? To finish.. I wasn't going to write this... I just was going to cancel my next check up and look for someone maybe outside of the area a little bit without saying anything... BUT.. since then, I ended up with an allergy reaction (welcome to Az - never had allergies before) and went again to a different Urgent Care... Great Dr. and staff by the way.. Asked about primary care Dr.s which she did help me there... and then told her about the visit to the urologist... believe it or not... she told me to actually say something so that maybe, hopefully, someone would wake up and understand... that not all people are on Medicare and want to be treated like a quota to meet. I met with Dr, Scott Salmon due to a medical problem. What an absolute awesome experience. Upon meeting him the first time.. (I was told that there was a possibility that I had cancer. ) He showed that he truly cared and would help with my concerns. After he completed a number of test and follow-ups, he assured me that I did not have cancer and that he would make sure that he follows up with me in the future. I chose this doctor and referral from my family doctor as He said Dr Woschiek was a good urologist, and he just may, however. You do not get to see the doctor, only the PA. I spent $120 in copay visiting the PA and I got someone who was erratic in diagnosis, changed every apointment. I finally started feeling better when I did my own reseach and used natural remedies. The symptoms were easily defined on the internet and were exact matches to common urologic symtom match diagnosis. I always received wishy washy answers and uncertainty. I can not rate the doctor because I never seen him. He has to be good to cary the good reputation and overshadow the PA. read more

This rating is for Dr. Joseph Worischeck. If I could rate ZERO stars, I would. My husband had prostate issues and we were referred to Dr. W. We went there twice and always saw the PA, Christina Malazarte instead of the doctor. Finally we we saw the doctor to discuss the surgical options (drugs wouldn't help). Dr. Worischeck stopped by to see my husband only briefly prior to surgery. We never saw the doctor again....not in recovery, not any time during his 2-day hospital stay, not in the office for followup care. The day of discharge, the nurses couldn't find the doctor to get permission to discharge. They called every 30 minutes. Finally 5 hours past normal discharge time, the doctor called with a short statement to discharge. Does he have any compassion for his patients? Apparently not.We didn't expect Dr. W to hold our hands but did expect him to pop in for at least 30 seconds to see how my husband was progressing. To this date (6 weeks afterwards) we have not received an explanation as to why we were treated this way. We will never visit any clinic where this doctor practices. read more

I've had my fair share of encounters with different types of doctors, but as far as service goes, this one is amazing. I waited a little bit longer than I was expecting to get in to see the doctor, but it wasn't anything outrageous. I've waited longer for urgent care. The staff is extremely pleasant and polite. My doctor (the physician's assistant) was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. She pointed me toward over-the-counter solutions for one of the problems that I had never known to try, because every other doctor has just put me on some expensive prescription. She only put me on one prescription, and she gave me a coupon so I could get it for five dollars. Overall, if you're looking for a doctor who actually cares and spends more than five minutes with you to make sure you're satisfied, this is the one to see. read more
