I had an issue with ground level drainage and they identified the issue and flushed out the system ,identified all exit areas and even put in a french drain in another area. I've contracted Southern by Design for several projects over the years. Wesley (owner) and Eric (manager) are very easy to work with and have a great attention to detail. SBD has Installed pavers that look terrific, installed several gardens, and a multi-zone irrigation system. Yes, call or email Wesley the owner. Strong family guy that has a strong, reliable, clean crew who delivered great results at an extremely fair price. Our project was to convert our sloped back yard into a safe flat area for our kids to play on. This included some rock wall demo, add large retaining wall, earth, 30ftx60ft sod, and artificial turf where our new play area is. During our project he was also working on a cool project for a local fire department. During the project, all went to plan and was well organized. Wesley was great to work with on the quote and scope. He has good knowledge and recommendations. Wesley was on site every 2-3 days of our 9 day project and walked through with us in the end. The project included installing hardscape (pathways), artificial turf, an irrigation system, gravel for utility areas and a fair number of plants. Wesley, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. Westly should probably loose a star for over-delivering on what we discussed, but we're so freaking thrilled with his design, that that doesn't seam right. We consulted with him thinking basic wall retention, level the ground, make it so we don't need to pull up plants/eventually want to put in pet turf, but we'll cheaply do it ourself. Nope! Westly is a PERSON, not a salesman or someone who is looking to capitalize on you needs. He listened to our ultimate goal, found ways for his team to make all of our dreams happen, and gave us more then a competitive quote, but also walked through the property with us after the job was done to answer questions and make sure we didn't want any changes. Ps: I come home at lunch, and always saw the team working hard, and working together- even when Westly wasn't on site. I manage condominiums and HOAs and have used Southern by Design at a few of the communities I manage. They do great work and are very responsive. Things may not always go as planned with any landscape company, but one of the things that drives me nuts is when they don't respond. I always get a response right away from Southern by Design and they immediately deal with any issues that may come up. They really go out of their way to make sure their clients are happy and well maintained. I can't say enough good things about Southern by Design. If I was able to choose the landscape company on my own, all of my communities would be landscaped by Southern by Design. read more

Wesley and his crew are outstanding. We hired SBD for a pretty large landscaping project that included property drainage, regrading, sod and plant installation, a new concrete driveway and hardscape patio, and some fencing. We're super happy with the results. SBD isn't the most inexpensive option (and they'll tell you that), but great customer service and quality work. The owner, Wesley, is very easy to communicate with via email or phone: always responds promptly, and has great design ideas to share if you're looking for inspiration. It was a large project and the timeline ran a bit long during the busy summer months, but SBD was very transparent and honest about expectations and possible delays. Would certainly recommend for landscape design and construction projects. read more

My wife and I met with Wesley to scope out the project we were asking him to do. He was very nice and seemed to have a good understanding with what we were looking for. However, it's been a nightmare and I very rarely write reviews. Here's what we experienced: First off, Wesley said he'd have a bid for us within a week but we had to keep checking in with him to see if he even wanted to do the project since we didn't hear back. We finally heard back from him and he apologized for the delay. The project took months longer than expected. We did have poor weather, but the delay should have been weeks not months. We had to constantly check in to find out when people would be coming to the house. Sometimes we had people show up for an hour, sometimes not at all...completely random. This should have been a warning sign. After the project was finally done, we had numerous issues that could have been prevented if he would have checked his employees work. The sprinklers were set up but the proper heads were not put on which he failed to mention to us after showing us how to use the app (they were spaying my house). It took another few weeks and several calls to install them, the cap stones on our retaining wall were not glued down (could have been easily checked), the drip lines were not working (still not), and on and on. He's been out at least 5 times since we made our final payment to fix things such as our sprinklers (which are still not working properly). The communication has also been horrible. He will constantly make commitments he cannot follow through on, we have to keep following up to find out why he didn't show up after telling us the day before he would be out to our home. In summary, we are very disappointed in SBD. I'm not sure if he has enough people to keep up demand, but that's no reason to fail to communicate with his customers. Our neighbor also had a bid done but never heard back so he went with another company. If you have a year to get a project that should take a few weeks and don't care who and when people show up to your home, and are ok with half ass work, I would recommend SBD. I'm at my breaking point where I'm going to hire another company to fix the issues they have not been capable of fixing. The one positive, at least he will keep coming out to "try" and fix the issues. read more

Wesley helped me fix and start my irrigation system. He was very experienced and knew the stuff well. I initially thought one part of my lawn does not have sprinklers until Wesley helped me to find all the hidden sprinkler headers buried into the lawn. He also fixed a broken pipe and many broken broken headers as well. I had a problem after the first visit but Wesley come and checked out the second time. He also charged a reasonable price. I will definitely go him for sprinkler issues again. read more

We hired this company to replace our lawn. The owner needed to reschedule from a Friday to a Monday for the installation, which we reluctantly agreed to. When the sod was delivered, there were two loads on the truck. Ours was obviously very dry and needed watering, but the other load looked much better. Turns out ours was harvested on Friday in 80 degree heat and not watered all weekend. He should have ordered fresh sod for our job, but thought he could get away with it. We also asked for and were charged for 14 yards of top soil and we received 12 according to the delivery person. The workmen also left a big pile of the soil in the driveway, so they didn't put down what we asked for. The owner promised to come out and replace the really bad, brown spots after we sent him pictures, but he never did. Fall arrived and we ended up having to re-seed the whole yard at additional expense. Do not trust this company! read more

The owner, Wes, has been great to work with over the past year. We've had him do hardscaping, replanting front and back (4 trees, and LOTS of plants), a drip system, and lawn irrigation. When had the lawn irrigation installed after the drip system, which was the plan all along. Wes was proactive in designing the system to be extensible to both back and front lawns. When it came time for irrigation to be done, it was a lot easier as a result of his thinking ahead. My 3yo son LOVES it when Wes comes out with the big tools like the trencher. :) On the strength of Wes' work and design skill, we hired Southern By Design to do ongoing yard maintenance. We've been very happy with all the work and our yard has never looked better! read more
