I am writing to formally lodge a complaint and share my highly frustrating experience with Northern Waters, Inc. regarding recent services on my mainline irrigation system. The issues began last December when a fencing company's negligence caused a leak and a winterization failure. The Northern Waters team initially came out to identify and resolve that specific issue. However, when we turned the water back on earlier in July, the system experienced unusually low pressure. This led to a cascading series of costly and ineffective service calls: Visit 1: A technician came out, simply confirmed the low-pressure issue, and we were charged $180 for him walking around and letting us know that indeed the system was not working. Visit 2: The technician returned later that week. He stated that sand must have been pushed into the lines during their previous winterization repair, causing a blockage. Despite this being a direct result of their prior work, we were charged an additional $480. We were assured the system was fully repaired. Unfortunately, the system was far from fixed. While it was scheduled to run every other day at 5:00 AM, we began noticing significant water pooling in certain areas. Worse, one of our larger rhododendrons is now dying due to a complete lack of watering. We ran an out-of-cycle test ourselves and discovered several outlets were still completely nonfunctional. Visit 3: The company sent out the exact same technician. I had to personally walk the property with him to point out 6 to 7 distinct nonfunctional areas that absolutely should have been addressed during the prior visits. During this walk-through, the technician identified even further issues, resulting in a staggering $880 charge for this third visit alone. I am incredibly disappointed with the service and the absolute lack of accountability. I was repeatedly charged for follow-up visits to fix issues that were either caused by their own repairs or completely missed by their technician. Combined with the property damage to our landscaping, the fact that it took three separate, expensive visits just to get the sprinkler system functioning properly is entirely unacceptable. Be aware of this company and proceed with caution before hiring them. read more

We continue to get EXCELLENT customer service from Northern Waters, and at our yearly activation a few days ago, Sam alerted us that we have Japanese Knotweed growing in our yard, an invasive and destructive plant. We've had all kinds of outdoor maintenance people here and he's the first to mention it. Sam is friendly, professional and well-spoken -- and he had our rather complicated system running perfectly soon after he arrived. read more

Still not entirely sure what we paid for. Charged $236 for "evaluated system and identified repairs". System still doesn't work - no evaluation was provided. When we turned on water line ourselves we identified a significant leak near the home - that wasn't addressed by tech. Clearly whoever came out did not even turn on the water line for the area of concern. After questioning what repairs/next steps were they quoted an additional $984 to actually identify the issue with our system. Diagnostic visit was a scam. Do not recommend. read more

They make appointments with us for spring sprinkler activation and winterization so that we don't have to remember to schedule them ourselves. They help with any problems in the line. Very professional. Been using them for 20 years! read more

After 20 years of service, they could not be bothered with our account anymore- saying that they left 20 messages for an old man who was hard of hearing - what they did not realize was that the law firm had RE-routed their phone system. The owners were completely awful having never missed a payment. ... it took 3 weeks to get an entirely new computerized sprinkler system put in by another company- very reasonably. They should be ashamed. Age discrimination, plus terrible service....., for friends of the Nordstrom's. And having worked at Nordstrom's for 15 years so I know better . Nothing more to add Do not call them- they can not be bothered.... read more

After shortlisting few irrigation installation companies in North Seattle area, we went with Northern waters. They provided a free consultation and provided the estimation that was reasonable compared to others. All the workers involved were professional and completed the work timely and did an amazing job at it. We had the sprinklers installed in front and back. They even had a monitor installed to automate all the zones and had rain water detection installed to avoid sprinkler activation during rainy days Overall had a great experience working with the northern watern folks! read more

I generally have them come in the fall to winterize and backflow check my watering system, then in the spring I start it up myself. This spring I found a leak in a backflow valve. The owner came the next day, fixed the leak, and started up the system, no charge. These guys are keepers. read more

We recently moved into a new home and discovered the in-ground sprinkler system needed some work - including finding and fixing a leaking valve in one zone. Northern Waters sent out Vince to scope out the work. Vince is a super-nice guy and very competent. He spent an hr diagnosing the issues and then scheduled the repairs for the following week. He worked efficiently and was thorough. I have no problem recommending Northern Waters. My only reason for a 4-star (vs 5-star) review is that they were a bit pricey. It would have been nice to have that initial 1-hr consultation (to determine the problems) applied to our final bill for the actual repairs (like many companies do). read more

I am on the board of a townhouse HOA with 20 units. We've had trouble in the past with irrigation contractors - shoddy work, unreliable, etc. When trying to find someone skilled and reliable it is difficult as too many contractors won't even return phone calls. Northern Waters is different. They are friendly, reliable, skilled, and they return phone calls. Our installed-on-the-cheap by Sundquist Homes irrigation system is 22 years old and had developed multiple breaks, had jerry-rigged repairs, had many heads which needed to be raised, repaired or moved, and has the usual seasonal system turn on, test, turn off, flush, etc. When I commented to a friend that I was trying to get HOA Board approval to schedule work on a new break, my friend said he has been using Northern Waters for years with good results. His Seattle house is worth over $10,000,000 and has 2+ acres of land with massive irrigation systems (front and back yards). The reason I mention him is to show that they work on projects large and small, all provide quality for all. I have to write a review just to give some balance to the horrible review left by Sean M. If the reviewer doesn't know what backflow assembly testing is (it's required by certain municipalities like Edmonds), he shouldn't be criticizing the company, nor be rate this business low because they're not plumbers. They are irrigation and lighting specialists. Period. My review: The gentleman who came out to test our system did that, as well as found and corrected incorrect wiring on the rain sensor installed last fall by another contractor, and programmed the system for us. The people you speak to on the phone are also very polite, warm, and professional. We are so happy we found this company. read more

They really don't do plumbing, but I don't know how else to describe it. Once a year I have to get my backflow assembly tested for the water company. I don't know what it is or why its tested, but damn it they want it tested. I think its a big scam, but who am I to argue with the man. So.. I get it tested. I use this company to test it. So, it you need your do hicky tested they should be able to help you. End of story... read more

Vince has been coming for the past couple of years to service our sprinkler system and reprogram our control box after we screwed it up pretty badly! He has added sprinkler heads and drips, re-aimed sprinkler heads and made sure everything was running tip-top. From the call to their office, their really friendly office staff began the quest to get our system adjusted and repaired, then to Vince, who is so fantastic and really listens, never having to repeat requests. I have worked with this company for more than 12 years and find the techs to have an incredible depth of knowledge and experience on landscape irrigation and lighting. They are dependable in taking care of the "spring on" , backflow testing and "fall off" work. They're valuable in helping us to be on top of our irrigation and lighting system maintenance. I work with the team and always get creative ideas on improving the system with great value for the dollar. The company is professional, (very friendly, helpful, efficient admin support) has high integrity and through its actions, I've experienced excellent customer service and satisfaction. In a few mishaps with our lighting and irrigation system over the years, the company has always solved issues with the highest integrity. This has resulted in a highly trusted consultant long term relationship. Recently, our main water pipe into our house had a slow leak flooding our laundry room. My husband and I were continually in and out of town on business trips during the leak. On the same day I emailed Northern Waters, Dave came out to our house, in hours, to track down the source of the leak, and determine a plumber was needed on a time and materials basis. Northern Waters does not do home plumbing. Leak now fixed, but to me, this was an 'over the top" client service experience. read more
