Alright y'all, here we go with another episode of Just How Food Goes…read more While I was in Washington, D.C., I had to make a stop at Jessie Taylor Seafood on The Wharf because I kept hearing about how fresh their seafood was. And let me tell y'all... it definitely lived up to the hype. This place is an experience all by itself. There are different stations depending on what you're ordering, so at first I was a little confused , but once I figured it out, everything moved pretty smoothly. The staff was patient, answered my questions, and helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. I decided to order three fresh oysters and a half-pound of shrimp with Old Bay seasoning, and I was so excited because I absolutely LOVE seafood. The oysters? 10/10. Fresh, clean, and exactly what I hoped they'd be. Every bite reminded me why I love oysters so much. The shrimp were another highlight. They were a really nice size, perfectly seasoned with Old Bay, and paired perfectly with a little butter and lemon. They were simple, fresh, and packed with flavor. I also got to sit outside with some amazing people while everyone compared what they ordered. We had everything from red snapper and whiting to flounder, fries, sweet potato fries, and macaroni salad on the table. It was fun hearing everyone's opinions while we all rated our meals together. Those are the moments that make food even more enjoyable. If I had one small critique, it would be the fries. They weren't my favorite, but honestly, I came for the seafood, and that's exactly what delivered. My overall rating: 9/10. Fresh seafood, a fun atmosphere, beautiful waterfront views, and great company made this one of my favorite food stops during my trip to Washington, D.C. Thank you, Jessie Taylor Seafood, for an experience I'll definitely remember. I can't wait to come back and try even more of the menu. That's Just How Life Goes... and of course, Just How Food Goes.

Be ready to get messy! I've been at this seafood market for many many markets. Since it's been revamped, prices have gone up. There were smaller stalls that also shut down as a result. So it only leaves Jessie Taylor's standing. The soups were good but I would've loved much more crab in my New England chowder. My partner got a corn on the cob and shrimp and the clam chowder. All were tasty and salty!

The covid safety precautions at the market are pretty good. They have one way to enter, one way to exit, roped lines to reduce crowding by the markets. There are black rectangles on the ground 6 feet apart for the lines. I waited a few minutes for the fresh raw oyster guy who was taking orders and shucking. He picked some good ones for me and was cutting fresh slices of lemon for each order. Out of all the stalls I went to, he was the only one that included a fork, very helpful! He put it and some napkins in the bag with the order. Due to distance from people, I had not see that no forks from the other place I got oysters or streamed shrimp. Would definitely go to this stall again! He was good picking thru the pile to get me the best oysters and rinsing them off in a fresh pail of water he had just fetched. The oysters were perfect, plump and tender, no grit, chilled, with fresh lemon. They had a self service container to get pepper, vinegar, and hot sauce. Best of the fish market for oysters! Recommended!

Just a note, the person cooking is usually alone by himself so waiting for them to cook your food will take at least 30 minutes. Bring cash to tip the boys working at the Wharf. My original plan was to get some food from near there, but what I had intended to get was totally sold out for some reason. I don't know what's going on with that place, but that's something I will revisit later. This place came up in my Yelp search and I thought the idea of sushi would be a light and refreshing meal. When I walked in I was surprised by how big it was, despite being more of a grab and go type situation. But it was cool to see that they also had bowls and plenty of desserts! The sushi trays were varying prices, mainly depending on the kind of sushi it was. I got the Tuna Lovers sushi for $11, a BBQ chicken bao for $6, and I couldn't help but grab cheesecake! It was two slices (one black sesame, one green tea) for $5. This was surprisingly high quality. It's set up almost like those markets you see in rest stops or at airports, but everything was really good! They also have dumplings and a few other items that are cooked to order, so there is more to them that meets the eye. You can either get a speedy snack or dine in. The staff are also very sweet and offered to heat my bao as soon as he realized I was going to buy it. I didn't even have to pay first. I will most definitely be back!

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sushi and the variety of food they offer. Sushi rolls, dumplings, rice bowls, etc. are already made for grab and go. They can also make them fresh to order. We grabbed the spicy combo platter that came with the eel and salmon. We got hungry so got the shrimp tempura roll as well. The drink selection is diverse and they're reasonable prices around $3. Busy and in a hurry, this fast casual place offers high quality and great tasting good. Very convenient to order ahead or pop in and pick something up for lunch.
