Now I'm not even gonna lie--the prices have definitely gone up a bit. The extra large crabs were $109 a dozen, so I grabbed a half dozen... and BABY... when I tell you those crabs did NOT disappoint!! They were BIG, heavy, and FULL! Not the prettiest things either--rusty, ugly little shells--but don't let that fool you. Honeyyyy, they were sweet, juicy, and packed with meat! I absolutely indulged with zero regrets. And let's talk about that butter I ordered on the side... whew! That just took everything over the top. Shoutout to the guys at Jesse Taylor--they did their thing! Great crabs, great flavor, and always worth the stop when I'm in the area. I'll definitely be back... even if it's just once a year! If you're nearby, go ahead and check them out--they're worth it, for real.

I went up to a vendor and spoke to a young guy working there, but he just looked at me and didn't respond. I even asked, "Did I do something to you? Do you know me?" He mumbled something and walked away. What made the moment even sadder to me was that he was the only brown-skinned worker there, and as another brown-skinned person, it hurt feeling ignored and unwelcome by someone who looked like me. I understand everyone has off days and there are times people may not feel like coming to work, but when working with the public, customer service should still matter. A simple greeting and basic respect can really change a customer's experience.

Good selection for a small place: Mussels, shad, scallops, swordfish, cod, crab meat, clams, red snapper, trout, catfish... They have whole fish, chunks, and filets. The DC local shad roe delicacy is also available right now! Their prices vary like most fish markets and they aren't the cheapest (sometimes cheaper than Harris Teeter or Safeway), but their quality is much better. Eg. Tuna steaks? $14.50/lb. ($9/lb at the Marina) Wild caught Alaskan king salmon? $20/lb. If you want the *best* prices and selection, go to the the Washington Marina on the waterfront. However, this place more metro accessible, and definitely not as smelly. My favorite thing is to pick up a fresh catfish filet($8/lb) after work, egg wash it, bread it with panko, and fry it on a skillet (add oyster sauce if you're really advanced). The guys behind the counter will also have advice and suggestions if you need help choosing or preparing a fish. Tip: They usually close a little bit earlier than the rest of the market, especially on weekdays. And on an ethical note, I have been trying to buy sustainable fish more recently via Monterey Seafood Watch (sorry red snapper, I had to give you up, hello bay scallops)! http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/cr_seafoodwatch/sfw_recommendations.aspx

The covid safety precautions at the market are pretty good. They have one way to enter, one way to exit, roped lines to reduce crowding by the markets. There are black rectangles on the ground 6 feet apart for the lines. I waited a few minutes for the fresh raw oyster guy who was taking orders and shucking. He picked some good ones for me and was cutting fresh slices of lemon for each order. Out of all the stalls I went to, he was the only one that included a fork, very helpful! He put it and some napkins in the bag with the order. Due to distance from people, I had not see that no forks from the other place I got oysters or streamed shrimp. Would definitely go to this stall again! He was good picking thru the pile to get me the best oysters and rinsing them off in a fresh pail of water he had just fetched. The oysters were perfect, plump and tender, no grit, chilled, with fresh lemon. They had a self service container to get pepper, vinegar, and hot sauce. Best of the fish market for oysters! Recommended!

My original plan was to get some food from near there, but what I had intended to get was totally sold out for some reason. I don't know what's going on with that place, but that's something I will revisit later. This place came up in my Yelp search and I thought the idea of sushi would be a light and refreshing meal. When I walked in I was surprised by how big it was, despite being more of a grab and go type situation. But it was cool to see that they also had bowls and plenty of desserts! The sushi trays were varying prices, mainly depending on the kind of sushi it was. I got the Tuna Lovers sushi for $11, a BBQ chicken bao for $6, and I couldn't help but grab cheesecake! It was two slices (one black sesame, one green tea) for $5. This was surprisingly high quality. It's set up almost like those markets you see in rest stops or at airports, but everything was really good! They also have dumplings and a few other items that are cooked to order, so there is more to them that meets the eye. You can either get a speedy snack or dine in. The staff are also very sweet and offered to heat my bao as soon as he realized I was going to buy it. I didn't even have to pay first. I will most definitely be back!

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sushi and the variety of food they offer. Sushi rolls, dumplings, rice bowls, etc. are already made for grab and go. They can also make them fresh to order. We grabbed the spicy combo platter that came with the eel and salmon. We got hungry so got the shrimp tempura roll as well. The drink selection is diverse and they're reasonable prices around $3. Busy and in a hurry, this fast casual place offers high quality and great tasting good. Very convenient to order ahead or pop in and pick something up for lunch.
