While in Sonora this past weekend, our friends took us around to a couple of different breweries. Southern Mines Brewing is fairly new was pretty empty when we arrived. It is on the smaller side, but they do a few tables inside and a bar-like area outside. We ordered a couple of beers - like the Lilikoi Sour and the Guava Slap. We also decided to share the Dirty Nachos and the Arapa Flight which consisted of their Cheese, Jalapeno Popper and Mediterranean Arapas. Everything was really good - we especially liked that their Dirty Nachos were made with kettle chips! They also serve pressed sandwiches and brew dogs - the Pinecrest sounded so good! They also serve wine, bottled nonalcoholic drinks like Jarritos and you can take beer crowlers home as well. They also had games for people to play - our group threw down on some Uno! We really enjoyed this brewery - staff was knowledgeable and friendly which just added to the experience! I hope we come back next time we are in Sonora! Some of my craft-beer-loving family came to town for a visit; I remembered seeing a sign that said "Brewery" right off of 108, so we decided to go for a noontime pint. This place is so nice! Charming, clean interior with lots of polished wood, an outside patio, a really interesting beer list, some local wines, non-alcoholic drinks, and a food item we've never heard of: Arepa, a Colomban flatbread made out of cornmeal and stuffed with various yumminess. We got three of these for a group of five and they were a delicious light snack. They also had sandwiches on the menu. I'll definitely be back to try those! For beer, I had the pilsner, which was really nice and crisp (and I don't usually drink beer), and others had the Guava Slap which they enjoyed. though it was a bit too fruity for me. The service was great even though there was only one person there and quite a few people were coming in. He let us taste everything we were interested in before we made our choices. This place is definitely the spot to come for a cool beer in a nice local atmosphere. And my family loved it even more than I did! read more

Beer is fantastic. Had the Cookie Porter and it was delicious!!!! I will also recommend the Beer Hug Brown. You don't see cardamom in beer, but it made for a tasty treat. The gentleman behind the counter was extremely friendly, and was very patient as we asked questions about each beer. It's a shiny new place, and is very welcoming. Has a country charm with some more modern features. If you are driving through Sonora on your way to Pine Crest, or Dodge Ridge...stop in and have some tasty beer and good food. read more

Such a nice place to grab a bite and either beer or wine. I tried a beer flight and had a hot dog. It was really good. I really liked the Lilikoi Sour. The hubs got a pale ale and he liked his too. It is decorated really nice and I believe the owner is the one who took our order. We will be back. read more

Stopped by Southern Minds Brewing in Sonora on our way home from camping in the mountains, and it was a great spot. The beer was excellent, the food was fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We happened to stop in on a Sunday evening and they had karaoke going, which made for a really fun, laid-back vibe. It was the perfect place to unwind after a weekend outdoors before heading home. Friendly staff, great service, and an all-around cool local spot. If you're passing through Sonora, it's definitely worth stopping by. We'll be back! read more

We've been meaning to try Southern Mines Brewing Company since they've soft-opened and finally went yesterday and it did not disappoint. My husband loves trying different breweries so we were excited to check it out, but everything exceeded what we expected. We honestly can't express how good both the beer and food are. I did a flight and liked every one. My personal favorite was the "Beer Hug" with a hint of cardamom. Really unique and balanced. The food was just as good. The arepas were the standout. I got the jalapeño popper with the green sauce and immediately knew I was not sharing with Nick Of course he saw it and convinced me to do halfsies, but honestly everything we tried was so good it worked out. We also tried the pizza arepa and that one was great too. We shared a Cuban sandwich and even that was so good. I'm usually not a fan of Cuban sandwiches but this one was perfect. It's right off Highway 108 and such a great stop on the way up the mountain. Nice indoor and outdoor seating and just a really good overall vibe. Jonathan helped us and was super friendly. I think he might be one of the owners and mentioned his brother in law is the brew master. They said their grand opening should be around April 11 if that doesn't change. We're really excited to have this as an option up here and can't wait to bring family and friends when they visit. Definitely going back read more

I went to Southern Mines to check it out since it's a new brewery and eatery in town. The menu is small and simple, offering arepas and brew dogs with a few variations of each. The arepas were delicious, and the brew dogs looked really good too. The beer selection had a nice variety, though there weren't any non-alcoholic options available, which would have been nice during Dry January. Everything looked clean and well kept. It's a smaller space, but it will be great once the weather is nicer and the outdoor seating opens up to add more room. Overall, it's a cute spot and a nice addition to town. read more

Love love love this brewery! First off, the beer is amazing with unique flavors like coconut porter (mind blown) and I forget the name now but one had Guava?! Being Colombian myself too I love the authentic homemade arepas, their take on jalapeno poppers was amaaaazing! Highly recommended for the food, beer and warm family vibe. read more

Such a fun and inviting spot. Service was quick and Friendly. Every single beer I tried was absolutely delicious. I'm not even a fan of sours yet theirs was really well balanced and refreshing. Reasonably priced and delicious food !! They offered such a cool fusion of Colombian arepas. My Husband got the High Sierra dog which was sooo good too. Very impressed. Got to be there on opening day and everything was spot on. The food is delicious I could eat those arepas every day of my life. I shared a flight (I don't typically drink a whole drink when it comes to beer) but I kept the sour and the porter to myself hehe. Those two were my absolute favorites. What a fantastic addition to the local brewery scene! I started with the flight of four beers which is the best way to taste their enticing selection. The cookie porter was my personal favorite. It is outstanding--rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced--and the Beer Hug brown beer is equally impressive with its warm, comforting flavor. The Arepas were delicious and a great food option to pair with the beers. This brewery is very family-friendly, beautifully decorated, and impressively clean. The BEST hot dog I've had in the motherlode!! I ordered the "Pinecrest" dog, my husband band ordered the "Simple" dog, cheese only! He is picky and just likes to taste the meat. He loved it. I would have to recommend the Pinecrest dog, it has a hint of sweetness in the secret sauce along with just the right amount of toppings. I also had the beer sampler and found my favorite the Beer Hugger. Easy going mountain atmosphere! A must try! read more
