Great bean burger, pizza, tacos, and pretzels. Loved the housemade root beer. Friendly and helpful service at the bar. Tasty and unique beers. However, our pizza took 90 minutes and communication around it was not good. It was an oven issue. The table before us waited longer and left. As we were leaving another table was dealing with the same issue. Simply tell customers to not order pizza and all will be fine. read more

I came by midday on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy inside and a few people on their outside deck area. The service was fast and friendly. I only had a side salad, but it was good. The view from the deck is very nice. I'd recommend this place for a beer and bite if you're in town. read more

The man and I took a last-minute trip out to Yosemite so we could ride the train with the pup. We stayed nearby and were looking for a convenient place to eat after a long day. The husband is always on the hunt for a good hazy beer, and when we saw this place offered one and had a happy hour, we decided to give it a try. He ended up saying it was one of the best hazy beers he's ever had, which is high praise coming from him. The happy hour menu had a solid variety of options, enough that we were able to turn it into an early dinner rather than just a snack. Everything we ordered during happy hour hit the spot and felt like a good value. Our waiter was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful without being overbearing. Service like that always makes the experience better. That said, do yourself a favor and skip the brownie dessert. Skip it. Skip it. Skip it. It was extremely doughy, almost more like an underbaked cake, and the ice cream portion was nowhere near enough to balance it out. Unfortunately, it just didn't work and was a big letdown compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, this was a great stop for happy hour drinks, solid food, and excellent service--just don't end your meal with the brownie. It was more like cake! And the ratio was way off!! My boyfriend and I came here on our last night in Oakhurst and I wish we tried this sooner! This was by far the best food we had in Oakhurst and they had a great selection of beers & cider. It's a nice spot, plenty of seating inside and outside. We didn't have to wait long for a table, but while we waited we got our drinks outside and hung out. I ordered a cider and it was great! My boyfriend ordered a dark beer and liked it a lot. When we were seated we had a lovely waitress who checked in on us regularly. I ordered the southwest smash burger and I loved it! It's a good enough place, been coming here for years. Very good local beers, reasonably good food. Recently though the service has been very poor and the best thing on the menu (imo) which was the pork belly tacos is a special only now. I got the Chili Maple Chicken Sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and there were no regrets. The beer was also great. The staff were super friendly. Even though there wasn't a bit of a wait to be seated, you can still grab a drink at the walk up bar outside while you wait, and even if there's a line the food is worth the wait. I vaguely remember coming here after running a half marathon years ago. Glad to say I liked it even better this time! We came for a late lunch early dinner and were surprised that it was full inbetween lunch/dinner time! We checked in and waited outside where we could sit and order drinks. We didnt end up having to wait very long for a table though! The food was delicious and the service was so nice! My steak was cooked so well and seasoned perfectly. The fries were perfectly fried and nice and crunchy. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious and we got a half cob salad too that really went well with everything. A great place to grab food and drinks while visiting the Bass Lake area. They are dog friendly with a large patio. The patio even has a window to easily order drinks. Nice variety. The garlic fries are bomb! Especially with the homemade ranch. The beer cheese in the Lineman Philly and Mac n Cheese is also salty creamy goodness. love this place. I haven't been there in a few years and am glad that it survived COVID. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. She didn't hesitate when I asked her for which pizza she recommended, and she was right. She also helped me select a couple of beers to try. The tables are big and you don't feel crowded. There is the main dining room, a bar area with tables along with an outside seating area. We sat inside and shared the Mountaineer wood fired pizza and the fish and chips. Both were excellent. I tried a couple of their beers. I am not a beer expert, but I enjoyed their IPAs. For Dessert we had the churro bites. They were insanely good! Excellent Customer Service- our hostess and waitress was Meichaila (sp? -Pronounced like Mikaela but my spelling is way off). Originally we had dinner reservations for a party of five, but our plans changed so we went there earlier in the day for a late lunch around 2pm. The Poutine Fries were a hit at our table. Pretty sure the kiddos ate all of that within five minutes ha ha. I had the Maple Chili Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was delicious, crispy and juicy, in all the right places. Portions were hearty, and I am so glad I asked for the condiments on the side. I also asked for extra arugula in the sandwich, and they were happy to accommodate. Good selection of beer and beverages too! The kiddos got the steak tips and bread, pulled pork sandwich, and the Southern dinner. Everyone was very happy with their choices. Going on a road trip to Yosemite has been exciting.  Along with seeing the awesome trees we found lots of places to eat.  Originally we visted South Gate Brewing Company as Maggie needed a beer.  Now we revisit as the food and drinks are among the best in the area and the staff are friendly and efficient. I ordered the backyard burger.  It was a beef patty topped with pulled pork.  Pulled pork was tender and had a smoky flavor.  Beef was tender and juicy with a tasty beefy flavor.  Very good burger. Fries were semi crispy with a nice fried potato flavor.  Might have been out of the fryer too long as they were not crispy as you would expect right out of the fryer. House brewed root beer was sweet with a bold, delicious root beer flavor.  Lots of carbonation to tickle my mouth.  Among the best root beers I've had. 2nd visit I tried the fried chicken wings with traditional bbq sauce.  Wings had crispy skin with tender moist meat.  Loved the sweet smoky sauce.  Great tasting wings. Look forward to visiting again next time we visit Yosemite. read more

Where do I begin? We were promptly greeted and seated, and that's the good part of this review. My husband ordered fish and chips I ordered some sandwich special they had. The food took FOREVER. Literally over 40 minutes. I don't mind waiting for GOOD food, this wasn't that. The fish and chips come to the table the color of wet dirt, SO obviously burnt. Here's the funny part, it was burnt AND soggy. Perhaps left if the window to soften up the burnt pieces to a chewable consistency. My sandwich was so dry it was inedible. You can't just throw overcooked chicken on a cold ciabatta bread, you'll chew it for 15 years. We hardly ate anything, I absolutely complained, and we paid and left. Oakhurst is embarrassing food wise. I go to Fresno to eat, let the tourists keep these places afloat I guess? This place was truly awful. read more

Stopped in at South Gate Brewing on a bachelor trip and I've got to say, this place is an absolute gem. The servers were super friendly and welcoming. I had called ahead and was told they don't take reservations at that time, but when we arrived, they had a table ready for us anyway -- which was a really nice touch. They let us sample the beers until we found what we liked, and hands down the Hulkomania IPA was my favorite. Smooth, tasty, and easy to drink. The food was just as impressive. I went with the Pulled Pork Sandwich and sweet potato fries, and it was so good I ended up splitting it with a friend so I could try his Philly Steak with Mac & Cheese. The night got even better when one of the staff found out we were celebrating a bachelor trip and surprised our buddy with a tall can of his favorite beer from the brewery -- such a cool gesture. They had a dining area but also a bar area where people can lounge around and talk. They also had an outdoor area where they had live music playing. They've also got some great gear in the shop (sadly didn't have my size this time, but I'll be back for it). Overall, if you're coming through on a Yosemite trip, South Gate Brewing is a must-stop. Updated review to shout out the great customer service we had on 6/17/25 by our server Michael. He was so nice and accommodating throughout our whole visit. He fulfilled every request with a smile and was prompt with his service. I stopped by with my parents on our way home from Yosemite. The restaurant had plenty of table and bar seating. Outdoor seating is also available. My parents split a fish and chips plate, which comes with 3 pieces of fish and a side (usually fries). Since they were sharing, added a fourth piece of fish for $5 and shared a salad as a side instead of the fries. I had the Wu Tang burger, which had blue cheese and arugula on it. Our meals were so delicious and fresh. The burger was perfectly juicy and the beer battered fries were crispy. My mom also ordered a house made root beer which was flavorful and refreshing. read more

This has to be one of the top restaurants in town. In its price range it's probably #1 for lunch/dinner. It beats a lot of restaurants for food across several states. Great variety of gastropub style food on the menu. Service was good, attentive, and food came quick. Their chicken sandwich was juicy, crispy, great flavor, and nice heat. The fries were so good. We stopped in an hour before closing, and the hostess abruptly told us there was an hour-long wait, despite the lobby being completely empty and several open tables visible. When I asked if that was even an option given that the restaurant closed in under an hour, she simply repeated the question instead of explaining. It came across as dismissive and rude. I understand that staffing may have been cut for the night or the kitchen may have been winding down, but the situation could have been handled with a simple, polite explanation instead of deflection. A courteous "we've stopped seating for the evening" would have gone a long way toward leaving a positive impression. read more

We stopped by for dinner while visiting family. We've had lunch here before, a few years ago but it's always so busy we finally made it back. There are tons of sitting space both indoors and outdoors. The whole vibe of the place is outstanding. We had the pretzels as our appetizer and it was delicious! Would definitely have it again. For dinner I had the BBQ burger and it was just ok. First off, it had no BBQ sauce on it at all. The burger was super dry. I had the garlic fries as my side and they were just covered in oil. A really great place for food and fun if you're not in a rush. We went on a busy Memorial Day weekend and had to wait awhile to get served outside. We loved that you could have your dogs with you at the outside seating though. And we had fun with the big connect 4 game. Food was good (most of us had a burger). And definitely try the Mac and cheese, that was a highlight for me. The server was nice and so were the other people there. Very relaxing atmosphere. If I could leave 6 stars I would. This was a perfect example of a brewery that serves food. The service was impeccable and our server, Dillian, in particular, was attentive and helpful in guiding our ordering decisions. The beers were top notch - we ordered the cold rush IPA, white lotus hazy IPA, and pecan brown (which is award winning) and each were distinct and had a wonderful flavor. I ordered the South Gate burger with garlic fries and it was a nice portion and everything was cooked to perfection. Stopped by after a 3.5-hour drive to get some lunch and had such a wonderful experience. Everyone was incredibly kind, helpful, and made great conversation. I even brought my cat along, and the staff and other guests were super sweet to him. We sat on the patio, they had a lot of games, and I enjoyed the country music playing in the background. Seems like a fun spot to hang out with friends. I let the waiter know I was vegan, and he made sure to tell me that the Carolina BBQ sauce on the vegan bratwurst has honey so I could exclude it. I do think it's kind of odd to call it a vegan bratwurst on the menu but serve it with a non-vegan BBQ sauce, but I'm glad the waiter was thorough enough to tell me to exclude it. That said, the bratwurst and fries were yummy! I do wish they would've added mustard or something else so it wasn't dry after I removed the BBQ sauce, but I loved the sauerkraut and pretzel bun. I ended up dipping it in some of the ketchup the fries came with for the perfect bite. I don't drink, so I didn't try the beers, but I did enjoy an iced tea. Unfortunately, Oakhurst doesn't seem to have lots of vegan options, so I'm glad this spot is accommodating and has friendly service! Would definitely drop by again when I'm in the area. Maybe try a burger next time? I'm also a big fan of their choice to use Beyond, instead of Impossible, because Impossible isn't truly vegan. It was a dreary, foggy morning in the flatlands. I hopped in the truck and cruised up 41 to Coarsegold where it was sunny and warm! I ended up at South Gate. I was greeted right away and chose to sit outside, nice patio, perfect weather. My server, Heather was awesome. She recommended the Glacier Point IPA and I went with the BBQ burger, both were fantastic. The weather and the ambiance/service and tasty burger turned my foggy day into a great afternoon. We may have come at an off day, but overall we were not impressed with the food at South Gate Brewing. We got a variety of items, including a burger, pretzel, bratwurst, macaroni and cheese, and potato salad. Unfortunately nothing really jumped out as particularly good, and the sides were quite disappointing as a whole. The macaroni and cheese were closer to buttered noodles, with very little cheese. And the potato salad was bland and a bit sad. The burger was okay, if a bit uninteresting and similarly bland. The beer was good, particularly the sour! But unfortunately I can't recommend this place based on my experience. read more

We came here after a long day in Yosemite and it was super busy (would recommend calling ahead for a reservation). But they had a great waiting area where we grabbed drinks and waited for our table. They had so many nice draft beers on tap, even a peaches and cream seltzer which was so delicious. It is a busy restaurant full of people who had just left Yosemite National park also, but the service was super fast and we put our order in and had food in no time. This review is actually directed at management. As it has come to my attention of late; that employees think it is alright to prescreen phone calls for management. . . . . . Your service is Meh!. . . . . . I am a 67 yo woman and I could run circles around your servers. I have been in the food serving business for over 50 years. I have been trained and worked for one of California's most popular steakhouses and other restaurants as well (a chain steakhouse and fyi: I waited on this one couple *2ppl* and every time they came in; I waited on them they always left me a $100.00 tip & this was in the 1990's mind you, no bs). To the point, my friend and I come in for a late lunch @ 2:30ish, I'm starving, we wait for our drinks, in the meantime my patience is running thin, so I get up and ask the Bartendar to start a strawberry brussel sprout salad for us (which was served at room temperature, ick, mind you, I do not want to make a scene, so I keep quiet about the temp of the salad, because I don't want my friend to think I am too B_thcy, but mind you I am formerly a server and a good one at that, I am now hangry, but I don't let it be known, I just get up and without being too noticeable try and get our order started. The server finally brings us our drinks and I say we are ready and I let him know I asked the bartender to put in the order for the salad for us, as the salad was not part of the meal that we intend to order. My friend and I split the entire meal, the ribeye I have to say was absolutely delicious and I know a good steak when I have one. Your business is loosing a lot of prospective sales because your servers don't know how to do their jobs and maybe you don't care about increasing sales, I am talking about being more attentive, suggestive selling appetizers, cocktails, etc.; of which no suggestions were mentioned. Then I have finished my half of the meal, I move my plate to the side, I don't know who she was, but one of your employees comes to the table and asks me to hand her my empty plate. There is room between the tables, that she could have gone to side where I have placed my empty plate, she asks me to hand her my plate, she even starts to reach across me and I then ask her to walk around the table and pick up my plate. Your employees have no clue! BTW, what and why are there no salt/pepper shakers on the tables, IDK! This is why I can't stand to be waited on by this generation; they want you to do everything for them. I know I can absolutely, positively do a better job than what your personnel do and that also includes your hosts at the entry door. Needless to say, if I ever am back in the area, I will call and make an order to go, because I can do better! I guess I am asking for too much. read more
