Bottom line: Honestly, I want 3.5 stars given here. The decor and seating area is looking like it could benefit from some attention. Service was adequate for the most part here. My hamburger steak and the biscuits were very good this time even though my broccoli side was lacking, Dad enjoyed his pancakes and particularly his fried eggs as well. Going with 4 stars but only because the visit deserves more than 3 stars for some of the food, again really want to go with 3.5 stars if I could. The Deets: When visiting the folks for the Father's Day weekend, Dad said he wanted to head by Cracker Barrel and get some pancakes for a late brunch so we stopped the nearest one over in Clemmons. It's been years since I visited this location, and honestly, really nothing much has changed from what I remember. It is the same basic formula with the country store area as you enter and then you go to the host desk to the side for the dining area. Luckily since we were stopping by a bit later even for a lunch, the crowd had left for the most part and we were seated promptly. Again, everything in the seating area is the same and could really use some TLC (lots of dust on the ceiling fans, more than a rustic type of appearance that could use a refresh, etc.) Our server was very nice in letting us having a few extra minutes to take in both the breakfast and lunch/dinner menus so we could decided what we wanted to go with today. Dad stuck with his pancakes, adding fried eggs and sausage. Mom got the Old Timers Breakfast menu selection, and I decided on the hamburger steak with two sides of steak fries/steamed broccoli. I enjoyed my coffee as we waited for our meals. Once they arrived, Dad really enjoyed his pancakes and particularly complimented the fried eggs. Mom was OK with her breakfast, nothing extraordinary or bad noted from her. My hamburger steak was really good, not dried out and plenty of flavor, I enjoyed it. My mother and I really liked the biscuits, baked just right. Steak fries were OK, but there were a good number of them extra greasy though. My steamed broccoli was cooked just a bit too long, not very much crunch left to it and pretty bland (Mom tasted and agreed with the latter). I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars for this visit, I really wish I could give 3.5 stars here. In looking at everything, I really think in the long run they deserve more than 3 stars with the good hamburger steak and biscuits as well as Dad really enjoying his pancakes/fried eggs so I will go with 4 stars, just knowing I feel like 3.5 stars honestly. read more

Last visit to a CB was in Kernersville over year ago. What a disaster that was but wanted to give the chain at the Clemmons location a go. I was greeted by the hostess where seated quickly. All staff super friendly placed my order for The Old Timers Menu. I have to confess l'm a young in heart Old Timer! It came with two eggs, bacon, hash browns and I also went with biscuits and gravy. Liquid choices OJ and coffee. My personal waitress was friendly and came by multiple times to check on me If needed anything especially coffee refills. Seated near a roaring fireplace. Tab came out to $20. Location off Interstate 40 in Clemmons. This chain known for its funky gifts area. Cards, candy, clothing, etc. This location I give it thumbs up for service. read more

Besides the wait sense it was a Sunday the service was really great and the flow of everything made the dining experience enjoyable. The Chicken N Dumplings were absolutely delicious paired switch the two pancakes and hash brown casserole. The Watermelon lemonade was also very good and complemented the entire meal. read more

Granted, I've not eaten at CB in 7 or 8 years, and they obviously have been struggling financially the last few years, joining Red Lobster, Applebee's , and a number more. I came here for a late breakfast, and chose the BYO platter for $10.19. My platter consisted of soft scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuits, and grits. It was not very busy, and my order was taken in good time, but the time for the order to come out of the kitchen was on the slow side. Cracker Barrel is well known by the RV community for their hospitality towards us - they tolerate overnight parking in their lots and all that they ask in return is that we consider making a purchase. I'm usually arriving too late or departing too early but this visit was the exception. We had breakfast this morning! A warm welcome from the hostess after we did some browsing in the store and then we were seated immediately. A friendly waitress took our order and a few minutes later, returned with coffee. A refill of our cups later and breakfast arrived. French toast for Mrs. K. and eggs with bacon for me. Delicious, cooked properly and plenty of it. The biscuits were just the right fluffy, chewy and a bit of salt to go with the little pot of blackberry preserves. Yum! Thanks, CB. Overall I think that Cracker Barrel may be coming to the end of the line the same way that places like Red Lobster and Applebees are going. It is the same that is has been for at least the past 25 years that I walked into one. Don't get me wrong, it is a decent breakfast, but if I were to go to one more than just "once in a while" I would be tired and done. I got the Mama's breakfast with pancakes, two eggs, and four slices of bacon for $9.99 at the current price. To me if you mess up breakfast you shouldn't be in business serving it. Food has always impressed me. Been coming to this location to eat since I've been a kid. All day breakfast, lunch specials, daily specials and seasonal features so there's plenty of variety to pick from. They handle large tables well and service is just as great for a table of two as it is for a table of six or more. Food comes out fast and is hot and tasty. First time at a Cracker Barrel here in NC. I went to one in CA that was depressing and not good. This one redeemed it for me. The breakfast was delicious. I got the pancake special with two over easy eggs and bacon. The pancakes had a great batter with a delicious buttery crisp on the edges that I love. The bacon was just perfect. I got a side of biscuits as well and the side of beignets. Beignets were wonderful especially with hot coffee. The service was friendly and they had the fireplace going which was a nice cozy touch. We had a small wait to be seated. They called our name over a speaker when our table was ready. We were seated and greeted. Server informed us they had no white fish or southern chicken. Immediately the party needed to review the menu for alternative options. The table but me order breakfast. Actually they ordered the same thing with different options of sides. The order came with eggs, hash browns bacon, sausage, ham with either pancakes or French toast. I ordered the catfish grilled with two sides. I got the salad and the greens. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had recently. We were seated right away, but weren't greeted by a waiter for close to 15 mins. By the time he arrived, he didn't ask to take our drink orders, he just took our entire order because of how long we'd been waiting. I would say the food took another 20 mins to come out, and sadly more of it was incorrect than correct. I had ordered the homestyle chicken sandwich with fries - but I got fried chicken pieces on a plate with fries instead. My husband had ordered three sides and received two. My mom's order was correct - but cold. Our waiter was nowhere to be found anytime we needed him. We sat with empty drinks for majority of our dinner. The manager walked by and asked how everything was, so we told her and she put in new orders for us. It was another 10 or so minutes to get my correct order, and the chicken sandwich was really good when it did come out. However, it came out alone and I had to wait some more for the fries. So win win, waiting for table is pleasant. Prices are reasonable and you get a ton of food. I don't think anyone leaves there without a doggy bag so if you're looking for comfort food, this is the place to go and if you have kids, it's also great because they can be loud and boisterous. The fries were soft and unseasoned. The Cole slaw was not good, I didn't even finish it. I'm not one to let Cole slaw go to waste but it had a weird taste to it. My water was gone before we ordered food and was never refilled. The order of one of my guests was completely wrong and had to be remade. It did not come out again until myself and other guest were already finished with our meals. I've been a longtime fan of Cracker Barrel and have enjoyed many meals there over the years, but lately I've noticed a real decline in quality, especially when it comes to the side items. The sides used to be one of the highlights -- hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Now they often come out bland or overcooked. The green beans taste like they've been sitting in a can too long, the mashed potatoes are either lumpy or watery, and the dumplings have lost the homemade feel they once had. Even the biscuits, which used to be warm, soft, and fluffy, now arrive cold or tough more often than not. Portions also seem to be getting smaller, and what you do get just doesn't carry the same comfort-food quality that Cracker Barrel built its reputation on. For the price, it's disappointing to feel like the food has been cut back or rushed. The atmosphere is still inviting, and the staff are generally friendly, but the food -- especially the sides -- isn't what it used to be. Until Cracker Barrel makes noticeable improvements to the quality, I won't be returning. read more

The Country Fried Chicken must have been refried to get that hard, crusty, dry edge, the center was just dry. The mashed potatoes were maybe room temperature or a little cooler. Our family celebrated my son Evan's 5th birthday in heaven at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Clemmons NC, one of his favorite places to eat. The managers' and our waitress's thoughtfulness and attentiveness left us deeply moved. Yes we made sure they were in photographs because they helped make his celebration this year a memorable one. Evan cared about people and his acts of kindness to everyone was something that made him so special. the managers didn't know anything about him, yet we were impressed by the compassion we were shown, they were moved for whatever reason. It was Thanksgiving morning and my wife and I were heading out on a Thanksgiving weekend road trip. We decided we would try to find something before we left our home area. Good Luck! There is very little open on Thanksgiving Day. We had heard that Cracker Barrel was open, so, off we went. My wife and I have been to Cracker Barrel before but it's been years. We typically try to stay away from chains and neither of us are big fans of Cracker Barrel. We kind of knew what to expect. When we arrived about 9:30am, it was pretty busy with people coming and going and a full parking lot. There was also a table out front for people to pick up their pre-ordered Thanksgiving dinners and sides. Although it was busy, we were seated right away, provided menus and waters. Their lunch menu does not start until 11am. We each decided to get the Old Timer's Breakfast which comes with two eggs, your choice of breakfast side, biscuits and gravy and your choice of bacon or sausage. We both got scrambled eggs, hash brown casserole, biscuits and gravy but my wife ordered bacon and I chose sausage. Our food arrived in a timely fashion and looked good. The food hit the spot but was nothing special. About what we had expected. We finished up and walked through the store area to check it out and pay our bill. Gotta the love the big variety of the CB menu. This was a last minute decision to grab to go so I just walked in and ordered and waited. The staff was nice and the wait gave me time to check out the store. I haven't really paid attention to the store in a Cracker Barrel for years (or ever). Be prepared to wait 45 mins for a pancake plate with cold window eggs. The place is so packed full of stuff at the entrance you can hardly get through. Building is simply too small to handle the amount of foot traffic that comes through. Overall very unsatisfying experience once again and probably won't be back for the foreseeable future. I have been ordering or eating out at Cracker Barrel in Clemmons for years. This experience today has been the worst. I attempted to place an order to go by Phone. I was placed on hold for 10 minutes. No one ever came to the phone. I called on another line and whenever someone picked up, they were gonna transfer me to takeout. I was on hold for 30 minutes. No one ever picked up the phone. I called again from another phone and I'm still getting the voice mail system it has taken me almost 40 minutes to place an order to go and it only takes me 10 minutes to drive to the restaurant . The to go service sucks. I also wanted to place in large order for a catering event and I've totally changed my mind. I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

Went on a Sunday morning with a party of nine. The server was AMAZING! She was right on top of every possible need and anticipated most of them. The chicken fried steak, hash brown casserole, and scrambled eggs I ordered were great. The kitchen decided that the sausage gravy on the steak was insufficient, so they added an additional cup at no extra charge. Pretty much had to beg her to bring biscuits and cornbread to the table. 7 of the eleven people's food came to the table wrong. My 5 year old never received his meal. My hamburger steak didn't come with the cheese on top that I ordered and it was extremely undercooked. The manger came out to attempt to make things right. He sent my son's food home to-go for us. Typical Cracker Barrel experience. I feel like I was a bigger fan of Cracker Barrel when I lived in NY because it wasn't somewhere we could go all the time. They don't have one on Long Island so it was only somewhere we would go when we were on a road trip and happened to pass one. Now that we live with one right down the road, it's not as special of an experience anymore (and we have some much better breakfast spots around), but I have to say they still make some of the best blueberry and pecan pancakes. Their pancakes are soft and fluffy on the inside, but have a crispy edge which I love. I paired my blue berry pancakes with a side of turkey sausage and my mom got the pecan pancakes with a side of bacon. I didn't realize this until today but you don't have to order the full order of pancakes, you can make any of them a short stack. Definitely going to be doing that next time because I can never finish all 3 of the blueberry pancakes. My husband got the sausage and biscuits which were pretty basic, nothing special. One thing I have always loved about Cracker Barrel is of course the store and the rocking chairs with games outside. I love having something to do while waiting to be sat, but luckily today the wait was only ~10 minutes (around 11am on a Saturday). read more

This is probably the best Cracker Barrel I've ever been to! We checked in at 10:55 and were told it would be 15-20 minute wait. It was 15 minutes when we were seated. Our waitress, Michelle, came promptly and took our drink order. Returned with drinks, took our lunch order, and quickly returned with our food. The food was delicious and just as ordered. Came here with my mom shortly before Christmas to find a specific stocking stuffer for my sister. They have both the restaurant and a gift shop area; we were in the gift shop. It was kind of crowded and prices aren't the cheapest but they do have a nice gift shop + selection. You'll find all kinds of candy and so forth, including Chocorooms (these mushroom cookies with a shortbread stem and a milk + dark chocolate cap) which I've only ever seen at Five Below. They were good about social distancing to get to the register and we were able to find what we were looking for after asking someone for help so no issues here. read more
