My husband and I dined here after church on Sunday. We had a very good experience. The staff was very attentive. There was a young man who was the host who sat us immediately. Several servers came over right away to ask our drink orders and give us menus. My husband ordered the country fried steak with gravy and eggs, and I got the chicken and waffles and a side of grits. Everything was very tasty. This might seem like a small thing, but the iced tea was fresh brewed and very good. I cannot stand iced tea that comes out of a machine or that is powdered. This was clearly fresh and they served it in big mason jars. This is one of my key things with a restaurant. If they don't have freshly brewed tea, I really don't enjoy my meal as much. A hidden gem near Hull St and Courthouse that was highly recommended from some of my local foodies and I am so glad I was able to make the trip! The hours online are not accurate (give them a call) so we technically got there when they were preparing to close for the day but the super sweet waitress went to check if they could still accommodate our to go order and they did! So I got two (one for my mama) liver and onion meals (5/5 very tender) both with mashed potatoes (2.9/5, gave box) one with cabbage (4/5) and the other with green beans (3.9/5). Mimi ordered the fried pork chop (4.5/5, thin cut but seasoned and fried well)meal with mashed potatoes (2.9/5) and collard greens (a bit dry...leave the "pot liquor" thats where the flavor resides, lol). I usually visit this place after church service because it is always a friendly and safe environment to engage and have a great meal. I love this place because of the food, service, and ambiance. They make the best Brussels Sprouts! I had them recently, along with the Loaded Mashed Potatoes. Both items were well-prepared and tasted good. The staff was pleasant but the food was meh. I had the cheesesteak but it lacked cheese and the "steak" tasted like maybe shaved "beef" lunch meat. My side was very salty navy bean soup. Hubs had a "club" that wasn't a club but a simple sandwich and had to ask for mayo separately, since none was on the sandwich. I wish them luck. Hopefully they can make some improvements. read more

Thanks to my Yelp app, we found this little hideaway diner when I searched for "breakfast near me." We were directed to a strip mall to the address, but there was no sign on the place. There was a chalkboard easel on the sidewalk indicating we found the right spot! When we walked in an inquired about the sign, the hostess told us that their new sign has ordered, even though they've been here for several years. This really is a hidden gem! It's modestly decorated with a touch of farmhouse chic! There are cool chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, it's a clean place but needs signage to direct you to Oxbridge shopping center. I was craving liver and onions so bad when I was pregnant and I mean not just any liver and onions. Searched for a breakfast spot as I was visiting my hometown and thought I'd give Southern Taste Diner a try. Easy to find. Was a little confusing upon opening door to restaurant as their was a huge foam board sign up on an easel stand about Humana that greeted me in the vestibule. Not sure why that is there? The next door opening leads to seating area but first your eyes meet the bar so I was a little turned around. No signage to say seat yourself and finally someone came to say sit anywhere you like. Was presented with two menus in a crumpled plastic sleeve. (I was a bit turned off by that) Coffee seemed fresh and hot. I went with the biscuits and gravy with over medium eggs. Aesthetically the way the food was plated was unappealing including the plate, HOWEVER eggs were made correct to order and biscuits were hot and fluffy and tasted good. Two large biscuits open faced with a huge amount of gravy ladled over top. I should've asked for one biscuit as it was a lot of food! No one came to check on me until I was done with my meal. I gave it 3 stars for my own experience all together. Place is a bit dark and gloomy on the inside with mismatched decor. It has a lot of potential as far as atmosphere goes. In other words would be lovely if place didn't feel so gloomy and gray and if it had a more cozy feel to it. When I go out to eat, the food is super important but so is the atmosphere. read more

We went here for my grandmother's 80th birthday and had a great time. The staff were very sweet and attentive. We had a mixture of food: fajita burritos, salmon, fried flounder, burgers, grilled cheese, chicken tenders and a few other items. They are reasonably priced and give an interesting mixture of southern/Mexican styled dishes on the menu. A children's menu is also available. There was a small mixup while making my burrito by adding onions when I asked to leave them out. I didn't need them to remake my food but my server did offer solutions to remedy the situation. Everyone enjoyed their food and thought it was very good (including myself and two picky children). We went around 4:30 in the evening (they're now open until 8 pm on Fri and Sat) and the restaurant was quiet and very cozy. They were able to accommodate our party of 10 and allow reservations. I was the only person in there at 5pm so there was no dinner rush to burden the staff. Worked for me! I got the Harbor omlette. It was filled with shrimp, crab meat, and gouda then topped with hollandaise sauce. It was on the smaller side for the price but tasted good. Probably won't get it again because of the size. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The waitress was friendly. The menu has a lot of choices (breakfast all day and lunch/dinner). I had lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised with the decor and atmosphere. Looking at the front doors no one can tell there is a very cared for with a feminine touch decor inside. I had the bologa burger with lima beans and it was on point. My friend ordered the seafood omelette because they serve breakfast every day. She too was happy with her meal. We were in the restaurant yesterday for lunch. We were a party of three. I had never been before. The decor is very cute but the food is underwhelming. I got a club sandwich . I was disappointed because they don't ask what kind of bread you would like. They only have white and the cheese was American. My mom got meatloaf. It has nothing in it but ground beef and gravy on top. She did like the potato salad and green beans. My friend got the seafood omelette and she said it was really good. Stopped in on a weekday morning for breakfast around 7:30AM and they were quite busy, but I was quickly seated. Server was VERY friendly and helpful. Food came out really quick and the coffee stayed hot. The place looks quaint and nice, like a country dining room. Menu has all the typical southern breakfast favorites. Their country fried steak was OUTSTANDING! Very nicely battered and fried! Gravy on that was so good, I got an extra side of it for the biscuit. We tried this place out for breakfast, and it was really good. It's in a shopping center, with a banner for a sign, and we almost drove right past it! It's small inside, decorated nicely, and the tables are spaced apart for covid measures. I had that crab benedicts. They were tasty, with an english muffin on the bottom supporting the crab cake, and an egg, and a generous amount of hollandaise. My husband enjoyed his country fried steak and eggs. Ok. So, this place is obviously family run, which we appreciate. They are prompt with service and are really trying. They are busy. However, that's kind of where the positives end. I ordered eggs Benedict and the wife ordered friend toast and eggs and bacon. The Benedict was less than appetizing to look at, hollandaise sauce was runny, had too much lemon , and the egg was fried, not poached. The wife ordered a Bloody Mary and it never came, but it wasn't on the bill, so even tho the waiter repeated back to her the request, not sure what happened to it. Then after waiting over 10 minutes for the server to come back so he could check on me and I could request my check, I precede to the ladies room and the back so I can request my check. So to employees we standing around chatting so I asked them to let my waiter know I would like my check. So one the person chatting said oh you go up to the counter to pay. I told her I know I go up to the counter to pay but I'd like my check first. She proceeds to ask me is this my first time here because that's how they do it. I then informed her no it's not my first time here and I received a check at my table. She said oh that was awhile ago. So she tells me my price without letting me see the ticket and I'm confused on the price. I look at her and said how much? She said that's with the gratuity already added on but didn't mention it was 20% either. I told her that I don't like for anyone to add my tips on for me. She said oh but that's our policy!. Now it wasn't policy when I came last time. And it is NOWHERE ON THE MENU and YOU ARE NOT MADE AWARE IN PERSON ABOUT THIS POLICY OR EVEN THE PERCENTAGE THEY PLAN TO CHARGE YOU! If I knew ahead then I would not have eaten there. I've found that places like that is escaping their responsibility for paying their servers a living wage and passing it on to us.
