We were looking for a really good breakfast after having an appointment at the local Veterans Affairs Hospital (McGuire). Harold's Kitchen popped up and we arrived in less than 10 minutes. We arrived and I seriously thought that we were at the wrong place; the building looked like it was not open. But it was and we went in and we were greeted immediately by Harold. He could tell that we were first-time customers there so he brought us our menus and sat down and chatted with us for a few before taking our order. Breakfast stops at 10:30 so we both ordered a dinner platter of liver. As we waited for our food a few patrons came and left and each one was greeted by Harold. Our platters were out shortly after and it was straight home country cooking!! He stands by the motto on his apron, "Food so great you'll scrape your plate."

Harold and Harolds Kitchen is one of a kind. It's always great to meet the Owner and Mastermind behind operation. His customer service was stellar! As far as the food, everything was great. I had the Crispy Chicken Wings with Potato Salad and Collard Green w/ Corn Bread. My partner had the Meatloaf with Mac N Cheese, Yams and Mash Potatoes. We agreed that everything was good but if we had to choose one meal it would be the Crispy Chicken Wings with Mac N Cheese and Collard Green. WITH XTRA XTRA CORN BREAD! We will be back!

Had shown with the cornbread !!

Well yesterday evening I was looking for some good soul like what I cook and grew up on. I have to say ... I saw this post and wanted to give it a try. Because they served Baked & Fried Turkey Wing . My Fave!!! I cook them a lot. But I would say it's small but you won't be disappointed. I got the BAKED TURKEY WINGS/COLLARD GREENS/POTAT SALAD & Cornbread ! Charming people of Southern Hospitality. I couldn't wait to get home just by smelling the food. It was soooooo Good. Tender Baked turkey wings, well seasoned greens and potato salad. Prices awesome. I'll be back. Oh yeah cornbread was like a moist piece of cake. Delicious It's in an area maybe better early evening. BUT FOOD WAS SLAMMING !!!! Thank you so much.

Harold's is a nice little restaurant tucked into the neighborhood with some good eats. Them chicken wings was definitely on point. Throw in the lemonade with the tea and you got yourself a meal. Harold definitely gives you a welcome home greeting. This is a hidden spot that you need to drop by.

Harold's is definitely your no frills, hole-in-the-wall, good eats experience! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted quickly by Harold!! My boyfriend wanted lunch and I wanted breakfast. They were still serving breakfast but Harold said if we wanted lunch, he would make it happen! (Yessss for the customer sevice!) I had the H.T. III meal (pancakes, eggs, bacon, and grits) and he had the three Turkey wings, collard greens, and candied yams! The pancakes and bacon were good. The eggs and grits were not my favorite. My boyfriend was craving Turkey wings! They were good but I wish they were a little crispy. The candied yams were bomb! Overall cool neighborhood spot, nice people, and great conversation!

It's so cute and cozy in here! Doesn't it give you Beauty and the Beast?? The other side, with booths is for dining in- I was taking-out!

Um, wow. Where does a gal start? This little nugget of heaven is quietly nestled away in my Manchester neighborhood. When you pull up, you'll probably see their daily specials sign to get your mouth watering *heart eye emoji*. When you get there you'll be greeted by either a server or Harold himself! You can either dine in, carry out or just order ahead. They amazingly even have lunch and dinner specials, lunch ending at 3p.m. Anyways, my first time going I got the 3 wings dinner! It came with your choice of two sides (greens and mashed potatoes) and a choice of bread. I'm a wing fiend, and these wings are to live another another day for!! So crispy and yes, perfectly seasoned! I ordered carryout there, and by the time I got home it was as though Harold fried it in my kitchen- steaming hot, such a well seasoned, light and crispy breading. I sit on my couch and type this out, holding the urge to call and place my order until I finish this review. This is a great black owned business that doesn't nearly get the recognition it deserves in an area quickly gentrifying... It truly, breaks my heart that some y'all have yet to try a morsel of Harold's delicacies! Getcha life!!!

Earlier in the month, I was finally able to check them out for the first time. I had my eye on their Italian hoagie, which is listed under the Cold section, but I know better at this point in time of living in the South and the many Italian hoagies that I have had to refrigerate. So I ordered it without the tomato or peppers and served cold. I ordered it through the bartender, who told me that they do serve them cold and that they were out of peppers that day. Turns out they were not out of peppers and they did not serve it cold. I can't eat peppers due to food sensitivities, so I sent it back and asked for it to be re-made. This was the bartender's mistake, from the receipt I could see that he didn't send those notes to Fat Kid, to be clear. The second rendition was made correctly, and it was definitely tasty, but they are overpriced. It's pretty obvious from my picture that this wasn't some hefty, super stuffed and loaded with meats/cheese hoagie. It looks like a normal 6" hoagie. Not worth $11 for it, in my opinion. I'd rather spend $16 at Stanley's or $10 for a full-size at Mr. Submarine.

It is fast casual - you order at the kiosk and grab a place to eat, listening for your number and/or text to alert you the food is ready. We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. Two friends enjoyed the collards. The only person who was underwhelmed was the person who got the Asian sandwich. Overall, if I wanted a good chicken sandwich and a Buttermilk and Honey was nearby, I'd place an order.

We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

The servers were also tending the bar which was getting decent traffic even at lunchtime. My dining partner says there is a pool table in a back room, and that could be fun to fold into a longer visit. The piped in music was light jazz. The menu is oriented around philly cheesesteaks and variations. I ordered the chicken philly, which was large enough to make two lunches (I brought half home.) The flavor was decent, with seasoned or marinated chicken chunks and veggies & cheese on a sturdy roll. It came with a decent serving of chips. We were served a juice glass of room temp water on arrival and no drink order was taken. Negatives were related to pacing. It took a lot of time for the food to come out. We were pushed to eat even half of our sandwiches within the hour my dining partner had for lunch. The server did not check back after dropping the plates, which could have been an issue if we needed more water. And getting the check was a challenge that took way too long considering how small the place is. This is a decent place to grab a sandwich or a drink if you have the time or live in the neighborhood.
