The ultimate dive bar! Stopped by Southland Bar and Grill for a drink and something to eat. They have a patio, lots of green space for the kiddos and pets, and a full bar. Lots of regulars that are super friendly. The kitchen is open Thursday through Sunday. The seafood specials are only on Sundays on the patio. Good drink prices for happy hour. I was there when the seafood was available and Vic made a seafood Bloody Mary. It's not the prettiest or the fanciest, but you will definitely have a great time. First time visiting. Nice cool down to earth vibe and people but the wanch behind the counter kills the vibe for me. Light skin about 185-200. Long bundles. Nice looking lady but her mannerism and attitude isn't for customer service. Other than that it's a cool vibe; the food was amazing. She's at the register and bar so you got to deal with her. Came here to hang out with family outdoors while we are on a trip for a wedding. Large outdoor grass area for the kids to play and to play corn hole. Food and drink available. Not much shade but we luckily scored an easy up. Good place for large groups to hang out outside. read more

We arrived around 5pm and opted to sit outside on the back porch as I'm not a big fan of smokey bars. The back porch was covered and there was a nice breeze so it wasn't to hot. The bartender/ waitress came and took our order within a few minutes of sitting down. They have 1/2 price hamburgers till 6pm, so we thought we would give it a try. Let me tell you, I'm glad I did. One of the best burgers I have ever had. Served on grilled jalapeno bread. The burger was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. This burger definitely had the wow factor working, juicy without being greasy. Topped with pickles, fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes. The fries here were outstanding as well. They reminded me of the ones you would get along the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach, SC. Large hand cut french fries with the skin still on them. How fries should be made, cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned with salt. No beers on draft, but happy hour domestics are only 2 bucks. I don't know how this place would be later on. It wasn't' very crowed while we were there, but was starting to pick up when we were leaving. I think they have karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays staring a 9pm. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. This is your standard dive bar, your local pub, your neighborhood watering hole, and your favorite hangout. There's nothing fancy at all about this place but the drinks are cheap and the folks are friendly. They've got a TouchTunes jukebox so you can listen to whatever you want and there are several flat screens around the bar for you to catch the ball game. Smoking is allowed inside so if that's your thing you'll feel right at home. Out back there is a nice patio for those gorgeous days and a large fenced in grassy area where you could let the kids play provided you thought it was ok to bring kids to a bar. It doesn't seem to get too busy so don't expect it to be the most happening place in Katy but then again that's a good thing because you can actually hear yourself think or hold a conversation with a friend. I wouldn't recommend coming here. All the regulars are extremely rude they think they own the place, the manager or owner whatever she is is extremely rude. When the bar gets busy she's just stands there and tells a bartender's what to do when they're busting their ass. Instead of getting behind the bar and helping them out. Beer is always hot, drinks are weak and expensive. bartenders are not that friendly. Boring, no seating, I overheard one of the bartenders saying that there were ants in the back of the kitchen where the food is. Horrendous! Not only was the bill a surprise on how much they charge for drinks at an environment that looks made out of sticks but the credit card machine broke down and they refused to let me pay tomorrow when my friends were late for a flight! Rebecca tried to tell me my card was rejected when really it was her system so I had to cash advance which was completely unnecessary and when the mistake was on them I still had to pay 21 dollars for two drinks of rum and coke. A New Place In Town by Nancy Chesbro My travels for the past two years in Katy have taken me to different and unusual homes, buildings and businesses. This past week took me to a unique place on Stockdick Road off Danover from I-10. I don't usually go to "bars". If you haven't been there yet, Southland Icehouse is a great place to kickback, enjoy a good burger and a beer and watch the game on several TVs. Southland Icehouse is a family owned business and has a great family atmosphere that sits on two fenced in acres with a playground in the back surrounded by picnic tables, a horseshoe pit and a even a stage for live entertainment. They have a great lunch menu too. You can get a burger 1/2 price during happy hour. The kids will love a good burger with a basket of fries. You can relax on the deck and watch the kids play. It's even a good place to book a family gathering or a party for that special event. Daniel Riley and his daughter Laurie are very hands-on, family and community oriented. They are one of the newest members of the Katy Business Association and plan to stay involved. When the weather improves they even plan to have live entertainment on the outside stage. But make no mistake, at 8 p.m., it is no longer for anyone under 21. Stop in and say hello to Daniel and Laurie and sign the wall before you leave. I love this bar! The kind of place that feels like home even though it's your first time. :) Fun and friendly staff, delicious food, and always a good time. Week nights it's the Katy watering hole and it turns into a neighborhood nightclub type atmosphere with karaoke on the weekends. Friends turn into family.
