I was searching for a new dental office, and my co-worker recommended Southland Smiles. Upon check-in, Hiliare gave my husband and I, a tour of the office, then placed us in our respective chairs. There is a gift bag placed on the chair for you. Most dental offices I have been too, usually give a bag that has a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss, and given on my way out. In my bag, I was given a water bottle, calendar, pen, and hygiene kit that consisted of a toothbrush, toothbrush cover, floss, toothpaste, tongue cleaner, and squeeze-a-toothpaste thing to help squeeze out all your toothpaste. And one of the best things, is the chair is a massaging chair! Hiliare introduced me to my dental assistant, Tracey. She took the films, and went over my health questionnaire. Tracey was great! From there, I met Sharon, my hygienist, then Dr. DiBenedetto. Dr. DiBenedetto went over everything Tracey and Sharon did, including my imaging. He explained everything in detail and answered all my questions, and gave recommendations. Finally, I went back to Sharon for my cleaning and she talked through everything she did, explained everything in detail. At the end, she scheduled my follow-up appointments. The office visit is about 2 hours, but we were in there a little bit longer because my husband is very sensitive to cleanings and they had to numb him. But other than this, for me, it didn't even seem that long because everything was so seamless from start to finish. This office is top notch and if you reside in the south suburbs of Illinois, I highly recommend coming here. You will not be disappointed. read more

Thought this would be a nice place to go....I was WRONG! I was quoted a price for some work to be done. I was given my "out of pocket" charges at my initial visit. When I came back for the follow up....more services than I anticipated or what I was quoted for were done. I as not made aware at the time that I would incur additional OUT OF POCKET charges. I was told my insurance was covering it. I later received a bill for over $150 more than what I was told. I wish I would have been advised beforehand, so I could make an informed decision as to how I wanted to move forward. Instead, I received a high bill in the mail. This all could have been prevented, if someone would have EXPLAINED to me what was being charged as far as out of pocket. I called Gabriela, whom I could barely explain the issue to, because she wouldn't let me talk half the time, she kept talking over me! So I'm sure she didn't get the best explanation of why i was calling. Therefore I'm not even sure if she understood the concerns, because I DEFINITELY didn't understand her responses. I felt like she was in a rush or either irritated that I was questioning the bill. However, I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND!!! And I won't bother any further. There's plenty of dentist offices I could go to. Horrible experience! Beware! Dentist insisted on a procedure that I did not need and injured my tooth causing me to now have two teeth extracted and an implant. He caused unbearable pain which I am still experiencing and unable to properly chew food. Dr. Richard Mantoan, owner of the practice showed a lack of accountability, ethics and integrity in resolving issue. I had to hire a lawyer as a result and file complaint with Attorney General. I have emails, records and supporting documentation for everything stated here. I am a Flossmoor resident and will never go here again. read more

Woke up this year on my birthday with a terrible toothache. Heavy sigh. I was also an hour from my regular dentist, who couldn't get me in for a few days. Southland Smiles got me in right away. Their staff was enthusiastic and friendly and gave me a bag of goodies. I thought it was for my birthday and wondered how so many people went to the dentist on their birthdays that they kept a supply of birthday bags. But no, this was a perk for new customers. Water bottles, calendars, even seeds to plant. Very cute little idea. The dentist himself, Dr. Mantoan, was professional and helpful. He got me on antibiotics right away and scheduled a root canal. I felt well enough to have birthday cake that evening, so I guess I can thank the dentist and staff at Southland Smiles for saving my birthday. read more

Everyone here is so personable and focused on your having a good experience; making an appointment is a breeze. I have never had to wait; the doctors and hygienists here really respect your time, and do a very thorough explanation of what they're doing and why. . I had an emergency, late on a Saturday afternoon while I was out of town. Dr Mantoan told me that when I get back into town to come right over and they would get me seen right away. Went in for the first time as self pay. Filled out paperwork and saw how after handing my paperwork over to the receptionist she made a comment to the OM about my employment status. She probably figured I didn't have money to pay. I get it it's a private office and I didn't look my best but I was there for a reason. I let it go and was called to the back. The hygienist Ruth was amazing no complains with her. She explained everything, I see the dr, then the OM comes in the and explains my treatment. Quotes me & I think she was shocked to see I was willing to pay. She walked out and a while after she sent someone else in to go over the fees with me again.? As if I didn't hear her the 1st time? Either she wanted to confirm I said yes, OR they didn't realize one had came in already and talked to me about it. 1st visit was good, 2nd visit went ok also. Now, my last and final visit,. The people I dealt with the 1st 2 times were not there, so guess what. This is a follow up appt THATS IT!! Somehow I get stuck with a bill that NOBODY in that office bothered to tell me. Mind you, I'm self pay, but I guess because they weren't getting any more money out of me anymore they needed a way to get me to pay something. NOTHING like the 1st visit were someone went over costs with me.(TWICE!!) A follow up should not be charged when it's treatment the dr did! I asked the receptionist on my way out why I was responsible for this fee when I was told I didn't have to pay. I had already prepaid for "all" my treatment. She pretty much said, "well they should have, your balance is $__." NO apologies, no explanation, I felt like it was an "oh well too bad, I don't care, just pay." So UNFAIR! Maybe the owner doesn't see how his front desk staff is, I saw it as soon as I walked in but decided to ignore them & give the office a chance. It's ok, I look a certain way it doesn't mean I'm going to run out of your office after treatment. I paid well over $2,000 to get treated that way. I will go elsewhere, wish I could just keep Ruth & the Dr who did my treatment. My problem was mainly with the receptionists. 3 of them, wish I would've taken their names but I didn't. Word of advice for the receptionist, if you're going to make comments on people make sure they don't hear, keep it professional & say whatever you have to say when they're not there. Oh, and also, a person with no insurance who is also "unemployed" doesn't necessarily mean they're poor. Maybe they're spouse has a business, maybe they don't have to work because well they just don't have to? read more

I honestly can't say much. I had a tooth that needed to be removed and went there as an emergency and they referred me to someone else so I can't say they were the greatest. I'm honestly still trying to figure out what they actually do there. The staff was excellent and they have followed up with emails, etc. so if they did something I needed the rating would be excellent. I don't know how much help this is because they didn't help me at all, but they didn't treat me bad either. read more

Ok...I've been to plenty of dentists in my time (granted I'm only 25), but once you visit with Dr. Mantoan and his staff, you won't go anywhere else. Everyone in the office is extremely professional, friendly and very attentive to people who have problems with their teeth- actually that's what they specialize in...Dr. Mantoan is known as the "Gentle Dentist." I've been going to Dr. Mantoan for the last 15 years and enjoy going to his office. Dr. Mantoan is skilled and gentle and has a strong aesthetic sense. I've also enjoyed working with Cheryl on preventive care. I now live in Chicago but go back to Flossmoor for my dental care because of the quality of this practice. When a problem arises, Dr. Mantoan responds quickly and offers immediate help. For example, when I needed a crown replaced, his office made special arrangements to do it on the same day as my cleaning so I could avoid another long drive. Dr. Atachi, the newest dentist in the practice, worked with Dr. Mantoan to address the problem and stayed late so he could complete the work on my tooth. He also did an exceptional job. I was not satisfied with the services of my previous dental office and searched for a dentist closer to home.
