Since the day Southpaw opened, it's been wonderful friendly environment with great food. The menu has expanded quite a bit since they first opened, it's not your typical bar food. It's freshly made, tastes great, I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere is pretty nice, especially during the warmer months where the patio is opened outside, and the service staff are always friendly. I just wish the prices were a little lower so we could go more often. read more

Came here last night with a dozen coworkers after our work day was completed. All of us are in town for a conference and the word of mouth has been going around about the beer and food at Southpaw Brewing Company. Inside there are televisions mounted in all locations for watching sports. We were able to secure three tables together for our party. I no longer drink alcohol and ordered an Arnold Palmer as my beverage. For my entree, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with tater tots. Portion sizes are huge for anything you order. My sandwich was grilled and seasoned perfectly. My colleagues who ordered beers we're discussing the bottoms up technology that Southpaw uses for pouring beer. Bottom Up technique pours beer from the bottom of the glass via a hole (about one inch diameter). There's a flexible magnet that seals the beer after the dispenser is removed. The magnet is FDA approved too. This technology is advantageous for fast, efficient and a formless pour. It was the topic of discussion for most of the night. Great food, great beer (per my colleagues) and a great time was had. read more

Yes! Yes! Yes! This place is an absolute GEM! What can we say? Not one thing disappointed us. Stopped by at lunch time and sat at a high top near the bar. The place had plenty of open seating, but no hostess to seat us (no problem there for us!). We found a table and were greeted with waters quickly by a bartender. He helped us navigate the drink menu (the maple bourbon old fashioned was just what the doctor ordered!) and took our app order. We got the Bavarian pretzel... and holy smokes it was huge and perfect!!!! Jerry helped us navigate the menu and we settled on a pizza... but we're torn on which one! After much debate Jerry offered to do a one time gesture and let us split the pizza flavors. Which was amazing since we are not locals. We really appreciated him letting us explore the flavors. So we settled on Buffalo Chicken and a Margherita. Wow!!! The flavors were epic!!! Of course it was like night and day between the two but DANG! They both GREATTTTT! The buffalo chicken pizza was packed with chicken and flavor while the Margherita was light and delicious. After searching online for different sports bars, I came upon this spot. I wanted to watch the Knicks game. I had no idea this restaurant would have so many tvs. They played so many games and if it's not in your area if you ask they will show it in your vicinity. Upon arrival they had me wait around 15 minutes for a table for two people. After the wait, we were seated in an area by the Garage door so it was quite drafty. I suggest you dress appropriately foe the weather. Anyways, food wise the Philly cheesesteak/ southwest chicken egg rolls were pretty good especially with the sauce. The reverse chicken wings which I was told is a new item on the menu was good too. Those two starters filled me up and that was all I needed. Probably the worst espresso martini I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered a maple bacon old fashioned and they brought it with no bacon. He had to wait over 20 mins for them to "cook more" only for the young server to forget to bring it back the two times we asked her for it. The pretzel app came with beer cheese sauce that had the same texture as sand. It was inedible. The only good app was the boom boom wings. Couple in that terrible start of our experience to our apps coming the same time as our entrees. With my meal coming about 10 minutes before my boyfriends but minutes after the young staff dropped the apps. So we couldn't even enjoy the wings without our entrees being cold. Server was also slow. Idk if it's because they have all young staff and no supervisors or managers but it was bad. Had to ask multiple times for refills on our water when that was my only drink bc I couldn't stomach the refrigerator tasting martini. My food was lackluster and watery (pasta). We've been to SouthPaw a few times now. While we've tried a few things, what stood out to us in the past were the wings. The sauce is great and they were perfectly cooked, nice and crispy. We even found ourselves recommending them to others. Unfortunately, this visit changed that. The wings just weren't how we remembered at all, lacking the flavor and texture we used to love. It was disappointing, especially since they were the one thing we were genuinely excited for. We also ordered a pizza, which was okay. The sauce had good flavor, but it could've used a few more minutes in the oven. Service was a bright spot. Our server was friendly and attentive. But there's also this odd little detail we've noticed for over a year now, they still have "churros" spelled as "curros" on the menu. It seems minor, but when something that simple stays wrong for that long, it kind of makes you question how much care is going into the rest. We like how close and convenient SouthPaw is, but for the price, the food just didn't deliver. Truthfully, we weren't blown away on our previous visit either and this one sort of nailed that home. I got the protein bowl with steak with miso ginger sauce. The steak was surprisingly very tender and flavourful. The bowl had a nice mix of rice, beans, veggies, cheese and pico de gallo. It was really good. The portion was huge too that I couldn't finish. I would definitely recommend this dish. The ambiance of the restaurant was quite chill. Im really thinking more 3.5, but I'll be generous today. First...Yaphank, who knew! Don't know much about this area even though I've lived in Holbrook/Ronkonkoma for some of my life. When my friend came in from Florida she asked to meet here being it wasn't far from where her family lived. I had no idea how built up the area was. And a brewery on top of that, whoa! Southpaw has a really nice space with that industrial feel. You know how breweries be. Minimalistic but with huge focal points like big casks or barrels of beer. Here, what I first noticed was the big pizza oven. Yes they offer a wide selection of pizza and even offer a gluten free crust. More on that later though. Their menu is great and features everything from small plates like the charcuterie stuffed pretzel or deep fried duck wontons to sandwiches, of course pizza and full fledge entrees like meatloaf and "Grandma's Lasagna". We opted for 2 pizzas given my friend has a gluten intolerance, and they offered that gluten free crust. Both the burrata and pulled pork pizza were amazing even though they couldn't be more different. The crust itself was good but I'm also excited to try their regular one when/if I get back here. The service was good, and I really felt it for our server as she was slammed with quite a few tables including a huge one. She was apologetic but she had no reason too because she did great. And this is a brewery so let's finally talk drinks. I started out with their Blueberry Gin Sour. It was listed on one of the menus but not on one at our table. Come to think about it, there were different menus all over the place so it was a tad confusing. But I got my Blueberry Gin Sour and to my dismay, I did not like it. It tasted very earthy, which could have been the bitters. I've never had bitters taste like that. I followed it with one of their beers. I want to say it was the Hazy or Mandala IPA. I ask for something on the citrusy side and our server nailed it. It really was a nice night and a great place for us to go to with my friend being back in town. We went to this place when it was very crowded and it was a little difficult to get service right away, or get to the bar. When we did finally get a seat and ordered, our server was awesome, and made sure she kept coming back to check on us. She had a lot of tables, but was really great with our orders. When the food came out it was excellent! The wings were perfect. We asked for them a little crunchy and extra hot which they were. Our pizza and burgers were also excellent, and the flights of beer were great. They also make excellent drinks at the bar. We will definitely go back, probably on a night that is not as crowded, and try other items on the menu in a little more relaxed atmosphere. This restaurant is located in an area that has lots of shopping and a big hotel, as well as condos, so it is pretty busy. There is also an excellent liquor store right by the restaurant that not only has excellent selections of wines, but their prices are also great. I think this brewery is in the perfect spot with a nice outside area to hang out in the nice weather. We will be back, and I highly recommend checking it all out. read more

Came here after visiting my MIL with the husbando. We were both quite famished and wanted to grab something to eat before heading home but needed it to be a quick stop since we were nearing rush hour and wanted to get off the island. We always pass by this mall on our way back home and this time, saw that there was a brewery. We got parking right out front and grabbed seats at the bar. The space is pretty big and you can tell they're fairly new. We saw the mall being built from the ground up but never ventured here. We were greeted pretty quickly by the bartender on duty at the time, after sitting for a bit. We ordered some drinks and what we thought would be two quick apps, the tater tots and the soppressata & hot honey pizza. Our tots came out pretty quickly and they tasted great, however, the "cheese sauce" that was served with them was more of a cheese flavored water. It was so thin and had a skin at the top. It did not taste like cheese at all and looked unappetizing. I asked for ranch dressing and used copious amounts of ketchup, but they were OK by themselves. That cheese sauce definitely needs some work because, even cheez wiz would have been a better option. We noticed that they have a pizza oven but also became concerned because no one had gone to it to start any pizza. I assumed that they maybe were just using the regular kitchen oven but when we inquired about the pizza order, the bartender basically confirmed that she forgot to put in the order. We had no more time to wait for the pizza and then eat it, so we paid and left. Luckily, the serving of tots was huge. While we were there, I tried their raspberry sour beer on tap, and hubby had their paloma. Both drinks were good but I wish mine had a higher ABV. It's only 4%. We would probably come back to try them out during another visit, and stick to the bar type foods, like burgers, wings and the pizzas. I don't think I would try any actual entrées outside of a salad. We were accommodated immediately sat down got our food and drinks with in 45 minutes it was about 800 dollars worth of food and drinks and they handled it with no problem in such a short amount of time . We've previously been to Southpaw twice before in the last year and both times, overall we had a good experience. This time, there were several things that changed that. The restaurant was less crowded than usual. The hostesses were not very welcoming when we arrived, but let us change tables so the sun wasn't shining in our eyes. The tables were clean and comfortable. 4/5 First, our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. She greeted us with a smile and was knowledgeable about the menu. She was the best server out of the three we had total. 5/5 Secondary, the mozzarella sticks are priced at $15, for 5 sticks. A bit pricy for a basic appetizer. This dish also changed the size of the older version of fried mozzarella to a smaller size. They were served crispy and warm. 4/5 Next, we ordered two basic burgers and one grilled chicken sandwich. We noticed the portion sizes have shrunk significantly. The chicken breasts were thin, dry and overcooked. The French fries on all three plates were room temperature, not crispy. Twice before the chicken breasts were thick and juicy. This time, they were less than half the size. Seems like the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. 2/5 Finally, when we received the check, the server was hovering over us which made things a little awkward. There's almost a sense of having to rush through choosing between a 20%, 25% or 30% tip. Having being put in that situation, that pressure is uncomfortable. It pushes you to choose and percentage no less than 20% while your serves waits and watches. 3/5 We'd return one last time to see if anything changes for the better on our next visit. read more

After hearing a lot of amazing things and following them on Instagram for months before they opened, my friend and I made it in today! Prior to coming I looked over their menu numerous times. I saw they offered flights. Flights are always good because you can try numerous beers instead of getting a pour if one. I saw they also have ciders. I messaged them on Instagram to see if ciders were included for the flights. I received a message back from James (who I think is the owner?) stating that they aren't included for the flights as they are canned, but if I ask for him when I come in, he will see what he can do. And he did just that! He was so kind and welcoming and allowed me to try the two ciders (apple and pear) on my flight. Talk about accommodating! My flight had the lager, ale, and both ciders. The lager was very basic. I did enjoy the ale and the ciders though. For our food we shared the mozzarella sticks and Bavarian pretzel. The mozzarella sticks came with vodka sauce and marinara. Both were delish! The order only came with 5 mozzarella sticks..makes it an uneven share..but it works out! The pretzel was yummy. It came with a beer cheese and a mustard. It was good. For dessert we both got the espresso martini. It was so good! Service was great. We had two servers as I'm guessing we came in the middle of a shift. Firstly, this place is beautiful. Everything is clean and modern and classy. It's located in a development or living community of some sort and surrounded by beautiful buildings. We sat outside and the patio area is very nice. I didn't drink but according to my husband the beer was "average" but he's a beer snob. A friend we were with said the beer was great! The cocktail menu looked wonderful and I will definitely be back to try some of them. The short rib nachos were wonderful. We shared an appetizer sampler that was a weekend special that was also very good. I had shrimp cocktail which was not good. Cocktail sauce wasn't flavorful and shrimp was just okay. We've been wanting to try Southpaw since we saw they were opening. Figured we'd let the initial waves come in and wait to see some reviews. Finally we got in to try it out. Very clean and modern feeling. Everything feels fresh (it is brand new so expected) the menu has a nice variety, and the indoor and outdoor seating was plentiful. -Mozzarella Sticks: 4/5, never had a mozzarella stick I didn't like! These were good, nothing fantastic, and a bit expensive but still...delicious. The Vodka sauce was a nice change up from the marinara too. -Chicken Cordon Bleu Blasts: 4/5, delicious pretty much sums it up. The dressing, the seasoning, the filling were all very good. Definitely recommend. -Philly Cheesesteak: 3/5, better than expected but not something I'd get again. The cheese tasted like canned cheese whiz, and the sandwich was more bread than anything else. Fries were good. -Buffalo Chicken Wrap: 3/5, mediocre at best. Many other reviews touched upon the wrap not being very "buffaloy" and that's accurate. It was really just a fried chicken wrap, we had to get a side of Buffalo sauce which they charged $0.75 for. But it was definitely needed. Overall, we pretty much got what we expected. A decent meal, a bit overpriced, but in a nice clean establishment. Really this is more of a 3.5 star review, but not quite a 4. The IPA was ok, definitely had better. There is an out for the firepit and its outdoor seating which I will try when it's not raining. They have an indoor bar. They had good music playing in the background. I ordered the meat lovers pizza which was good and I had the other half to bring home. The blueberry sour was tasty and a good choice for me. I've been too sporadic lately with reviews, but if you give me a new brewery, you better believe a review is comin' quick! That's the case with Southpaw Brewing Company which I just visited on Saturday and I'm already eagerly typing up this here review. It could've even been a five star writeup if not for a few fixable factors, but we'll get there. First off, let's start with the space. Located amongst the backdrop of Mega Walmart and many new condos, this Yaphank brewpub has a casual yet contemporary upscale vibe. The place has a lot of stone and brick while incorporating Edison lights, ring swing games, and a modern fire pit area. The place was a madhouse on only the second week of it being open, but coming on an off time might result in a slightly better view of Southpaw's swanky interior. From there, the service seemed swell. We (my wife and I) arrived a few minutes after the rest of our party (three of my friends and one significant other) where they had already taken an order for a few food items to nosh on and they were up to the drink ordering. Throughout the time we were there, our waitress was easy to find and spot plus she tried her best to accommodate and explain everything going on within our time there. Those last bit of words makes more sense when we get to the beer so just hang tight for a sec. First I want to mention the delicious Buffalo chicken pizza we tried. It had tender chicken pieces and a nice mixture of Buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. The house cut French fries were also nothing to scoff at as they were just as tasty. Now heading back to the beers, I did get to try three different types (albeit two were from small sips). The hazy IPA, the blonde ale, and the sour were the trio of tastes and to be honest, they were all superb. Smooth, easily drinkable, and prominent on their beer types. Plus Southpaw has installed the newer method of pouring beers from the bottom up (that's right, there's actually a little magnetic trap door on the base of the glass). It makes for a quite a perfect pint of beer. Therein lies the only issues of this Southpaw visit. My buddies and I were all excitedly expecting to receive a flight of beer. For $12 you can get a choice of 4 (or go for 6 for $14) which really was worth it, especially because most of the beers on the menu were $9 or $11 for a full pint pour. So when the waitress said they were a little backed up with taster glasses for the flights, we chose to get a pint each (and taste each others) in the hopes of getting a flight in the second round. Unfortunately, they decided to stop serving flights because they couldn't clean the glasses fast enough. It was annoying to see the remains of people at a few tables around us finishing off their flights where we weren't able to snag any due to Southpaw's own internal issues, but that is hopefully just a snafu that'll quickly be fixed as time goes on. Nevertheless, we decided, especially due to the price, to not get a second round and head elsewhere to potentially cheaper and more flight-available breweries. Overall, I definitely was perturbed by the flight/price problem, but everything else about Southpaw was so great that I really am excited to return. I'm interested in getting more grub, checking out the space on a slightly less busy day, and potentially having the chance to try a few more brews at one time (because there are more clean glasses!). So consider this a four star review with some growing pains because it's quite possible that five stars is in the not-too-distant future. read more
