3.5 stars overall - it is definitely a college town local watering hole and Grill. Vibes give off sports bar feels. It's definitely good for large groups in terms of seating. We were a group of four but the table seemed like it was meant for six or even eight. The dining room is very spacious and they even have a private back room for events and parties, which looked to be buffet style from what I could see. The bar and counter area was really long. Plenty of space to dine and watch from any angle. There's even a back patio next to the parking area where you can toss the beanbag and play some outdoor games. Serving mainly bar food and casual dining options here. The menu online is very different from what we were given. Think sandwiches and wraps. With a small selection of entrees like grilled shrimp and steak (generous portion) or burgers. Started with the French Onion Soup as it was a cool evening and I wanted something warm for starters. It was quite salty and it did have plenty of onions. Meh Hubby got the steak and shrimp I mentioned before, generous portion on the steak. My son got the steak tips with mashed potatoes. He did enjoy that. My daughter opted for the grilled cheese with bacon and a side of fries which was actually on the kids menu. Not found on the regular menu presented. I had the French Dip (meat was very chewy and the dip was actually more of the onion soup!) This came with a side of fries but I asked to change it to tater tots since it was an option. They were a little mushy, breaking down with each stab of the fork. So afterwards I realized we didn't get the wings or the burgers they claim to be the best in town, but we noticed the other patrons got wraps and wings. Looked quite saucy. Next time. read more

My family has variety of taste. You have the person that loves hamburgers and french fries, you got the person that loves quesadillas, you got the vegetarian, and then you have me, the one who doesn't want to order a full meal and only eat half of it and the rest of it go to waste The bench has a variety of great food, but not too much. You go to a diner there's a 10 page menu and the food crap because there's so many different foods. But the bench has enough on their menu to satisfy all types of food, eaters, but the quality is still there. It's one of our favorite places to go to when the family is altogether because everybody is gonna be happy with their food. The size of the food is great. The price is good and the food is high-quality. I tell my friends that this is a great place to order for our family. And it's also good for a couple or a single person. I've never been inside the establishment so I don't know how that is, but I know that the food is great and when it comes to restaurants, that's 90% of the reason, I'll give it a good review. read more

Great ambiance and excellent service. I've come to the Bench a few times for happy hour. The happy hour deals are only accepted in the room by the bar and the food is delicious. I really enjoyed the mozzarella sticks, soft pretzel and sweet barbecue wings. There's plenty of parking in the back as well as outdoor seating and corn hole! read more

First time here and went on Christmas Eve luncheon. We were the only ones there that day. The price was excellent and included drink and sides. Had the French onion soup and no upgrade charge! But the fries?? These were upgraded and it came like this?? I was with a professor so I didn't want to make a scene, but really?? Other than that the au jus sandwich was fresh and meaty. We have been to The Bench twice. The hostess and wait staff are very friendly and attentive. There's always music playing but not obnoxiously loud. The food is very filling. I love love their onion rings and chipotle mayo. Sooo good. The onion rings are crispy and have a good flavor. The fries are crispy. The first time I went I had a panini and could only eat half of it because it's filling. This time I had the the roast beef sandwich dipped in au jus. The meat was tender! Everyone else said their food was good. It's a nice place to stop and have a meal before hitting the road. read more

The food was pretty good but I honestly couldn't get over how insanely loud the music was. This place is a bar and a restaurant so I totally understand them playing music but we all had to scream across the table. I don't know if I could see myself going back because of the volume inside the restaurant. It was loud beyond anything I have ever experienced at a restaurant before. We had a lacrosse tournament in town and they were very gracious and hosted the team. We had a private room and buffet style dinner. Everything from the service to the food were amazing! The servers were extremely attentive and the food was replenished quickly. Highly recommend for a private party!! read more

We were visiting Stony Brook and came across this bar & grill. The restaurant was nicely decorated with Halloween decor. We ordered Nachos, the 1095 Burger, and the Chicken Pesto Panini. The Nachos came with a variety of different toppings like guacamole, sour cream, chili, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and Pico de Gallo. It came out really quickly and was devoured in seconds. Each chip had an adequate amount of toppings to go along with it. The Chicken Pesto Panini came with an order of fries and a large slice of pickle. We liked the pesto sauce and thought the roasted peppers were great. However, we found the chicken to be a tad dry. The 1095 Burger came with a large slice of pickle and an order of fries as well, but we switched it to cajun fries for $3.50 extra. The 1095 Burger's "Bench Sauce" was incredible; it was sweet and had a kick to it. However, we requested the burger to be made medium rare, but it came out to be medium well. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but it was a little pricey which is understandable because it is a bar. We would want to come back to try their other menu items. read more

The coworkers and i like to come here for happy hour and a quick bite. I use to love their menu but a while back they changed it up to make it more "fancy" in my opinion. I miss some of the old entrees that they offered. When i go I usually order something from the half off appetizers. I love their chicken fingers with the honey mustard sauce. I tried the chicken and rice soup. It was overly salted. A couple of coworkers ordered salads and flatbread and they looked awesome. Maybe next time i will order them too! read more

Just had one of the worst experiences of my life here. Incredibly rude staff. I was required to have 2 forms of idea so I went back to my house to get another form. I come back order wings and they come out cold. I was with a large group of people and we were only allowed to have one pitcher of beer at a time. Do not go here. We went to the bench today after a funeral nearby. There was over 30 of us who showed up unannounced at 12:30 pm. The staff there was amazing. They accommodated all of us with smiles of their faces! I have tried this place three different times. I love the convenience, I can walk to the restaurant. The place itself is nicely decorated and clean, however the food taste like they air fry everything until it's dried up well done. The food has no seasoning, I'm not sure who the cook is but Burger King has more flavor than this place. Thankfully the wings has a ton of sauce because without that it would be hard to swallow. I've been to The Bench twice in the last few weeks and I have to say I love the place. The place has a very cool family vibe to it. It's a great place to grab a bite, drinks and enjoy watching sports. They have live music on Thursday nights as well. The food is AMAZING. The staff is super friendly. I think I found my go to spot. It's refreshing when you can go to a restaurant multiple times and the quality and service is consistent. My last time there I had the pleasure in meeting one of the owners and I totally get why this place operates so well. They really take pride in their restaurant, their staff and the quality they deliver. Thanks again for a great experience guys - will be back soon. read more
