Great ambiance and excellent service. I've come to the Bench a few times for happy hour. The happy hour deals are only accepted in the room by the bar and the food is delicious. I really enjoyed the mozzarella sticks, soft pretzel and sweet barbecue wings. There's plenty of parking in the back as well as outdoor seating and corn hole!

First time here and went on Christmas Eve luncheon. We were the only ones there that day. The price was excellent and included drink and sides. Had the French onion soup and no upgrade charge! But the fries?? These were upgraded and it came like this?? I was with a professor so I didn't want to make a scene, but really?? Other than that the au jus sandwich was fresh and meaty. But I left traumatized by these burnt sticks!

We have been to The Bench twice. The hostess and wait staff are very friendly and attentive. There's always music playing but not obnoxiously loud. The food is very filling. I love love their onion rings and chipotle mayo. Sooo good. The onion rings are crispy and have a good flavor. The fries are crispy. The first time I went I had a panini and could only eat half of it because it's filling. This time I had the the roast beef sandwich dipped in au jus. The meat was tender! Everyone else said their food was good. It's a nice place to stop and have a meal before hitting the road.

:::Update::: Came back, this time, with an appetite. This time I ordered: - French onion soup - Steak Tidbits: topped with onions, mushrooms, melted mozzarella served with mashed potatoes (they could have put a little more steak in this...I felt there were more potatoes and shrooms in this than meat) - 12 Wings - Garlic Old Bay - The Patriot (cocktail): silver Rum, coconut rum, spiced rum, pineapple juice, OJ, splash of grenadine - PB&J Shot: screwball, pb whiskey, chamboard - Crowd Surfer shot: Malibu coconut rum, blue curaçao, lemon juice The drinks were on point. I loved every single one! I'm definitely coming back! ::: Came here spontaneously to have dinner with my husband. I didn't have an appetite coming in, but ordered something anyway and just hung out. Here's what we ordered: - garlic old bay wings - soup and salad: cesar salad with french onion soup - steak quesadilla: served with pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole - new fashion: muddled cherry and orange, splash of bitters, half bourbon, half amaretto - tootsie roll shot - pistachio shot: amaretto, baileys Irish cream, blue curaçao I have no complaints about any of the food or the service ...everything was great. I plan to try to come back with an appetite and order up a storm. My faves were the wings and the soup :)

We were visiting Stony Brook and came across this bar & grill. The restaurant was nicely decorated with Halloween decor. We ordered Nachos, the 1095 Burger, and the Chicken Pesto Panini. The Nachos came with a variety of different toppings like guacamole, sour cream, chili, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and Pico de Gallo. It came out really quickly and was devoured in seconds. Each chip had an adequate amount of toppings to go along with it. The Chicken Pesto Panini came with an order of fries and a large slice of pickle. We liked the pesto sauce and thought the roasted peppers were great. However, we found the chicken to be a tad dry. The 1095 Burger came with a large slice of pickle and an order of fries as well, but we switched it to cajun fries for $3.50 extra. The 1095 Burger's "Bench Sauce" was incredible; it was sweet and had a kick to it. However, we requested the burger to be made medium rare, but it came out to be medium well. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but it was a little pricey which is understandable because it is a bar. We would want to come back to try their other menu items.

Classic 12pc Wings

Bench is a staple piece in the Stony Brook community, but the wings are what makes people come back. Ask for well done and don't forget bench sauce!

This place has the best hot pretzels! They will never disappoint, the service is consistent and the dining areas are always clean!

This place would get a 3.5, but I'm rounding down for reasons I will say in the review…read more I started off by seeing this place by searching for fish and chips. Seeing they had a Wednesday special, I decided to put off my adventure from Roslyn to Ronkonkoma from Monday to Wednesday. I also found a bunch of things I was interested in to pad my experience and make the drive worth it. The waitress came quickly, got our drink orders, took a few minutes, and we started our order. I started off by getting the Fire Island Fries, the Flanagan's Nachos minus Jalapenos and Chipotle Ranch, sub the chicken in, the Fish and Chips special with additional pay for French Onion Soup and Curry sauce, and my friend got the Penne Alla Vodka add chicken. I asked how the Mozzarella sticks were and she said they were very popular so I got those as well. We'll start with my addition. The mozzarella sticks are good. Fried properly, not raw, not burnt, you get I believe 9 in an order. I greatly enjoyed them, however I would never pay more than a buck for a small brick of cheese. They were great, but not that great. The nachos were very barebones, something getting them at full capacity wouldn't have done much for. The queso is gross, and put me off from eating too much. The avocado was a single, sliced avocado which is fine, but pretty hard to eat with chips. The chicken was a bit of an issue, not tasting great. The fire island fries were good, I enjoyed the flavor change, but I feel like some cheddar would have made them from "good" to "amazing". Adding cheddar to my leftovers later confirmed that. The french onion soup was the shiniest turd I've had the experience of eating. It is the best of the worst, in every way. The cheese tastes a bit off, the broth did't have much flavor or salt, the onions were sour, and overall it looks tremendous, proper quality, but tasted like I was eating expired progresso with some sour cheese melted over it. I love proper French Onion soup, but this was very difficult to force myself to eat. The penne alla vodka was fine, but they could have added more salt, it just felt a little bland. The chicken was hard and dry. It didn't work with the dish itself, it felt like eating two different things at once, neither of them tasting as good as they should. The fish and chips were the real star. The fish was as crunchy as you expect, the chips were proper chips. The curry was hot but delicious, everything was absolutely fantastic. If I was reviewing on the fish and chips alone, this place would absolutely get five dtars. But they need to work on the other areas of their menu, they're heavily dragging this place down. I also got the donut with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. A donut from dunkin would have been better in my opinion, and you would save $10 assembling everything yourself. Finally, the service. It was very here and there. At first, we were getting checked up on often, but at the end, there was a good 20 minute stint where they wouldn't show up at our table and we had to flag them over to get our check. I'm not rating this against them, but I would have liked a little more observation. It was a one and done place, with excellent fish and chips this side of the pond. If I was closer, this would be a Wednesday night thing, but I'm too far to justify that.

Been here forever for a reason, I'd say…read more You already know what it is, Irish sports bar with a great, time tested staff, good food, and a bunch of brews. Sunday wings, darts, lots of events, outdoor seating in the front and back, TVs everywhere, a side restaurant and a back party room, they've got it all.

Fantastic service in a cute local bar. This was my second visit and I had a great time!…read more The food is decent. I haven't had anything mind-blowing yet, but nothing bad either. The garlic & oil wing sauce is a dry toss and tastes super bland, I do not recommend that one! The honey garlic was great! Loved the southwest eggrolls. I would visit again, but I want to try more popular menu items next time!

Finally tried Rockwell's bar and grill tonight. Local spot and was packed on a Saturday night…read more The owner/manager was super friendly and accommodating and the southwest egg rolls were fresh and delicious. Those are all of the positives. Onto the negatives.... The waitress was absolutely horrific. It took 25-30 minutes for her to even realize we were there. You'd think after that mistake she'd be more attentive.... Nope. The table next to us was also getting a little irritated. I ordered the special spicy rigatoni and chicken cutlet. The sauce was very good and mildly spicy but the chicken was tough and not good. Actually tasted old. My husband had the skirt steak and said it was a bit fatty and just OK. Ordered a second margarita but it never came... they didn't charge for it but still annoying. It was pretty busy in there but by the time we left it emptied out. They charge 4% fee if you use a credit card which I found a bit steep compared to other establishments. All in all, I'd try them again for just drinks and apps and maybe check out the bar area. The outside looks super nice to enjoy weather depending. They open at 10am and happy hour is 10am-5pm.
