Tara and her team have been caring for my two small dogs for about three years, and I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. They are devoted to caring for animals and that shows in the caliber of Southpaw's service. They understand you're literally giving them the keys to your home and putting the welfare of your canine family members in their hands. They take that responsibility very seriously, and go above and beyond to make sure your animal is happy, healthy and safe. I have one rather spoiled, snippy and difficult dog, and a few dog walkers wouldn't take him on because of his behavioral issues. Tara not only agreed to walk him, but has worked with him to solve the issue (it was honestly just short of miraculous). My second dog has been learning to sit and stay with Southpaw's help, simply because the team actually enjoys spending time with the dogs they care for. Once they found my older dog in bit of distress - shivering and unhappy. It was the kind of subtle change in behavior that I would assume only I would notice. They let me know immediately and stayed with him until I was able to get home. Everything was ok, but only because they take care of my boys as if they were their own. They make sure one dog has a certain blanket out on the couch, and to check for items that the puppy is liable to eat (anything). They make sure those details are always right. Every walk is followed by a detailed text (often with photos) updating me on how the dogs are and what the walk was like. I'm picky and way over-protective when it comes to the dogs. Southpaw takes every concern and all my preferences (reasonable or not) seriously. They're a pleasure to work with and always go the extra mile. Tara is amazing with our pitbull-boxer Miso, whose high energy can only be released with frequent play. I appreciate the care she puts into sending a note after each walk. It really settles any dog-separation anxiety while at work during the day. Wanted to update my review since SouthPaw has now been walking my dog for quite a while. The service hasn't slowed since my initial review and I've been extremely happy. Just the other day my wife said to me that we (even though I found them) were lucky to have found SouthPaw. We haven't been the easiest clients either. My dog had knee surgery and required special attention, we've had extended leaves from the city and many surprise walk requests. Tara has been the absolute best and I don't know what I (or my yorkie and pitbull) would do without her. Tara has been walking my two pups since December and I have had nothing but great service. I adopted a pit bull pup from the shelter who is afraid of strangers, human and canine, & I was super nervous to let anyone else walk her, as I imagined them being less cautious with her than I am. When our foster dog came down with a cold overnight and was too sick to go to her daycare, I started scrambling to find someone to walk her the next day. My experience with South Paw was great! This was my first time leaving my cat alone without someone I know to look in on him. Tara responded quickly and answered all of my questions about the services. South Paw offered lower prices and more flexibility than other pet sitting services in the area. Maurica, the pet sitter, was great! She got to know my cat before I left for vacation and sent me texts to let me know when she had visited him. The price was also exactly as quoted. SouthPaw is the best -- they take great care of our pup on his regular walks, and they're wonderful with him and our cats AND our plants whenever we're away for a trip or vacation. Our dog was an adult rescue and has some social anxieties, but their gentle consistency and patience have helped him blossom into a truly happy little guy. I hired Tara last year based solely on her Yelp reviews and man am I glad that I did! She has been absolutely amazing with our string of zany fosters and eventually our forever pup. They all had their own quirks but she knew just what to do. My dog loves her and her staff. Through conversations with her, I've learned that aside from being a genuinely caring and good-hearted person in general, her passion for working with dogs is what drives her. It's quite beautiful actually, and that's exactly the kind of person I want caring for my pup. Also, she offers in-home grooming, which has proven to be a major convenience for us. Tara saved my vacation and more importantly made my dog VERY HAPPY! I do not have enough nice words to say about her services. I had someone cancel on me last minute to walk my pitbull/mastiff tripod named Blue. He needs extra care as he has food allergies, and is on a prescription. Tara jumped in last minute. After speaking with her on the phone I felt so relieved about who was going to take care of my baby blue. She was sure to stay in touch the whole time (almost 3 weeks!) And is very trustworthy and respectful (she stayed in my apt). She kept in touch, letting me know when blue had his medication, went to the bathroom, etc. Sending pictures and videos. I can't even begin to explain how great it was to see my happy guy on video and it was such a relief. I had no worries knowing that my pup was in her care. The SouthPaw team is THE BEST! I adopted a puppy last summer who needed a lot of training and care and Tara, Charles, and Scott have been a dream come true. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are gentle, caring, patient, flexible, happy to work on any kind of training or reinforcement while with your dog, and I truly felt that they loved my pup. I have used them for walks, day care, grooming, boarding at my home, and boarding at Tara and Charles' home, and always feel 100% comfortable leaving my dog with them (sometimes I think my dog is sad to come home from hanging out with these guys!). Tara and co also walk so many dogs in BedStuy that I felt like I joined an amazing community. Tara is amazing! I have seen her for some time building her business and always thought that she was a responsible and honest person. Last weekend I had the opportunity to use SouthPaw Dog Walking and saw that not only is she responsible and honest, but professional and that she goes the extra mile. Tara came to feed our cats while we were away and informed me she not only feeds the cats but would play with them, change litters etc! Tara has been so good to me and my dog. I have a lot of last minute work meetings that come up and she always tries to accommodate. My dog is a bit of a handful, he really does not like children or skateboards, and Tara is always very aware of his aggression and steers him clear of any trouble. There are not very many people who I trust with that sort of responsibility. It is commendable that she will still go out of her way to help me out by getting him out of the house, all the while she tries to work with me and my dog to shape some of his bad behaviors. I could not ask for a more professional and caring person to give my house key to. Every time I meet someone new with a dog I recommend her right away. She always fills up his water bowl and even checks on the cat when she comes in the house.
