As far as diners go, I'm in love. This is a classic must go to place if you are hankering for breakfast at four in the afternoon or want a really good club sandwich. I've had a number of meals here and it's just good food. My personal favorites are the turkey club and the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Classics made right! If you're looking for gluten-free options, they do have gluten-free bread for sandwiches. And they do toast their bread directly on the grill so be sure to have them have the grilled clean if you are getting yourself a club or other sandwich. Otherwise their meat is gluten-free. My family and I came here for brunch Saturday afternoon and they weren't too busy, we got seated right away. I got the iced mocha with almond milk which was okay. Had mediocre breakfast yesterday at the Southport Diner. The restaurant is big with lots of seating available. The decorations are very simple, nothing special. The place could be cleaner. Ambiance rate 5/10. My friends and I ordered... 1. Vegetable Omlette: This was very bland, nothing special. It was a small portion which was unfortunate. I asked for extra cheese and it lacked that which was upsetting since it cost $3 to add cheese. Rate 5/10. 2. Avocado Benedict: This was very mediocre considering the avocado didn't taste fresh, and I asked for the egg benedict to be runny and they were well done. Rate 4/10. 3. Homemade Corned Beef Hash & Eggs w/ a side of truffle fries: This meal was good as a whole. However, the corned beef wasn't the best being it was very chewy. The truffle fries on the side had a nice, strong truffle flavor. It was also a good portion size. Rate 7/10. The service was relatively quick and our waitress was nice. Parents, beware. The food is decent and most of the staff are kind, but the evening manager has been consistently unprofessional--making condescending remarks about our special-needs child and even overcharging us, then refusing to fix the bill. Other reviews describe the same manager's behavior, so this isn't an isolated issue. Went here recently for lunch. Food was nothing special, it's pricey for a diner ($52 for grilled cheese & fries, a chicken wrap & fries and 2 sodas), staff is overworked and the manager (?owner) is an absolute bastard. We walked in, and the manager who was standing at the cash register, did not greet us and just mumbled "How many?" with a nasty look on his face like we were bothering him. He then left us standing there and walked away and placed our menus on a table without saying a word to us and then came back and gave us another dirty look. The waitress then probably showed us to our table. The waitresses and other staff appeared understaffed and overworked. Our waitress did not check on us once after our meals were brought out and it took us 20 minutes to flag someone down to get our check. All the while, the manager sat his fat ass at a table in the middle of the diner and watched tv while his staff struggled and patrons were not attended to. When we brought our check to the front to pay, the manager (who was now standing watching tv), looked at us and proceeded to walk away. This diner is spacious and immaculately clean, including the restrooms. There was plenty of parking available. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive. Really outstanding. The menu offers a variety of choices. Every dish we saw delivered to other tables looked so appetizing. My dining partner chose a breakfast dish of pancakes, sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs medium. His request of a separate plate for his pancakes was effortlessly accommodated. While the eggs were a bit browned on the bottom ( he did ask for medium), he did enjoy his meal. I debated over the meatloaf and moussaka, and chose the moussaka as I am always in the mood for a good moussaka. It came with a choice of soup or salad and I was able to substitute a Greek salad which was wonderful. The salad was gorgeous, the feta cheese so fresh and mild tasting, and the portion was generous. It included olives, red onions, green peppers, and tomatoes and 2 stuffed grape leaves. Delicious. The moussaka was another generous portion, with layers of delicious eggplant and potatoes. The bechamel sauce was intoxicating. Really, this was one of the best moussaka dishes I have ever had. I am so glad we stopped by and there is no doubt that I will be returning for my Moussaka and Greek salad fix and also to try other menu items. I definitely recommend. read more

So closet to jersey this Southport diner has become our favorite spot when in Connecticut. It's so classic to what we are used to. So far the few times we have come service has been consistent as well as the quality of food. No complaints whatsoever. A diner can't be reviewed for every little detail because to a degree a diner is a what do you want, here you , more coffee, anything else , bye kind of place The foods in a diner are what you'd expect from uncle Bob's house or Nanas home just to compare. First time for us; Very poor service; once seated we were waiting for 15-20mts for anybody to show up in our booth . Had to get up and ask somebody to come and take our order. Needed a place for a post gym meal and this was nearby so why not? It had some people at 11:15am but we were seated immediately. After looking at the menu, we ordered the chicken soup and ribeye steak with eggs, which we opted to sub the home fries for truffle fries and added turkey sausage. Chicken soup came out fairly quickly. The soup was quite standard, not bad but not amazing. Both the bowl and the plate were hot, leading me to believe they probably microwaved can soup and served it. The ribeye steak got me extremely excited, even when it came out, the presentation wasn't bad. There's where it ended. I can only describe it as meat with the flavor of water, which is no flavor. The steak was visually fine, but flavor wise was utterly disappointing. I added salt and pepper and it still didn't do much to improve flavor. I had to douse it in ketchup to even finish it. The eggs were good and were cooked firm.The toast was served with one package of grape jelly. My husband had an omelet with jalapeño and onions and he liked it very much. Literally the worst customer service ever! Hercules was our servers name I believe. Went there at night literally went in and he brought us to a table and did not get menus at all. But then he continued to assist other people and get them menu, then came straight to our table and asked us what we wanted as if we had menus. ( which were never given to us!!) as we were still eating dinner he asked if we needed to go boxes 4 mins after our food had arrived! Then 5 mins after that he came to our table and asked if he can get my credit card so he can close out our bill! Stumbled across this diner while my wife and I were stuck in traffic on a rainy saturday afternoon. A former Athenas diner bought a few years ago and renamed. The owner was friendly, welcoming and made you feel right at home (he even danced for a few customers there who seemed to be regulars, which gave me a good laugh after a not so uplifting day). The menu was extensive with great selections of milkshakes (we had the sea salt caramel), greek options, classic american items, salads, seafood and my favorite, THE REUBENS! Had some buffalo wings as an appetizer and the Reuben while my wife enjoyed a triple decker BLT. A top notch experience and raising my expectations of the quality diners should be putting out! The minute you walk in, the servers/host are attentive and on top of their clientele. Tony the host is extremely friendly. When not busy, he will take the time to walk around to the tables introduce himself, meet his customers and make them feel welcomed. The food was great! I had amazing sweet potatoes fries and a delicious omelette. My friends had salads which were a big portion and filling. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Very clean bathrooms!! Came over here while I was waiting for my car at the carwash next door. It's a cute little diner, it wasn't too busy and I sat down right away. The server was kind of short with me but I guess he was busy. I got the corned beef hash and eggs with home fries bowl. It was okay, a bit skimpy on the home fries and the hash was overcooked and a bit dry. I got my eggs over medium and they were cooked very well. The side of bacon wasn't as crispy as I usually like.
