I don't even know how to begin to express how horribly my 80yo friend was treated by Dr Jackson when we took her 17yo cat to their office today. Her white cat has a large skin cancer tumor on her nose which has been stable and shown little growth (if any) over the past 6 months. It is not infected, or raw and doesn't appear to cause the cat pain or discomfort.She has a great appetite, is very active, and still has a very good quality of life. We took her in because today she was sneezing and had an extremely snotty nose that started today. We'd given her a dose of Claritin that seemed to help thin the mucus before taking her to the clinic. My friend just wanted to keep her cat from possibly getting a respiratory infection, to ask if there was a better medication than Claritin to keep her mucus thin and not cause her to have difficulty breathing. We also asked if there was anything that could be done to the tumor to keep it from obstructing her airway and extended her time with us if possible. Dr Jackson had never met my 80yo friend or her furbaby before today. They vet tech took the cat to get weighed once we got called back and Dr Jackson brought her in to us a few minutes later and IMMEDIATELY started telling us in a condescending tone that the best thing we could do is have the cat euthanized because she obviously had cancer. She didn't ask us any questions, she didn't pet or even look at my friends cat as she bluntly interrupted my 80yo friends and my attempts to explain why we were there and told us that she was advocating for my friends cat (whom she'd just seen for the 1st time less than 5 minutes beforehand) and that her cat was in pain, couldn't breathe and that my friend was trying to selfishly prolong her cats life by wanting to treat her symptoms. This cats airway has zero blockage by the tumor, it is not raw or scabbed at all and she was/is breathing and purring with her mouth closed. She has a hearty appetite and had just been enjoying bullying my 88lb German Shepherd yesterday. Both myself (56yo) and my almost 80yo friend agreed that Dr Jackson is the rudest, arrogant and uncaring vet that either of us has ever taken a furbaby to see. I was literally sickened thinking that if any other elderly pet owner had gone alone or had not researched the cats symptoms and options beforehand, that Dr Jackson would have succeeded in ending the life of a cat she'd just laid eyes on 5 minutes earlier. She was going to do this without taking a full history of the cats symptoms and without considering the mental state or emotional needs of her owner. We did finally persuade them to do labwork, give her an antibiotic shot and prescribe her steroids to prevent sinus congestion and infection. Thankfully the vet tech that was assisting the dvm was caring, understanding, knowledgeable and understood our expectations and reasons for not just giving up on a cat my friend has had for 17yrs. She was everything the obviously inexperienced vet was not. That dvm desperately needs to remember that when you care for a beloved pet of someone, you are also responsible for caring about the feelings of the owner. read more

I have been a loyal customer at Southside for over 30 years. I have read all of the reviews posted and can honestly say that if anyone thinks that any business can consistently go without a bad review they are living on another planet. What I can tell you is that in over 30 years of service there is absolutely no other veterinary service in Crestview, Florida that I would take any of my beloved pets to. The doctors at Southside are top notch. They are honest, caring and not afraid to tell you the truth about your pet. I have had dogs and cats cared for by them. If I call for an appointment and they ask which vet I want to see my pet I tell them it doesn't matter, they are all wonderful. One final story I want to share regards one of my grandchildren. One of my granddaughters wanted to become a veterinarian. I called and asked if one of the vets could talk to my granddaughter regarding that career. Dr Samantha Landsberg took the time to clear her schedule and talk to my granddaughter about being a veterinarian and schools she recommended. Did I get billed for that? NO I did not. Southside is like family. Do they make mistakes? Sometimes, but not often. Love all of them!! read more

They have Really gone downhill in the past year or so. Several of the front-desk girls (who have been there forever & know what they are doing) are gone. They have cut their hours drastically, Prices have Increased Exponentially and it takes several weeks to get an appointment. You Also now have to Pre-Pay to add a pet (even if you've been a customer for 20 years)! Whomever they have taking care of their F.B. page must think this is just a popularity contest with more to do with Who works there than the Pets they are supposed to be caring for. read more

$244.84 to have my cat groomed at Southside Animal Clinic. I am beyond disappointed in the grooming aspect of our visit. I should have known better and left first thing when I dropped my cat off and the groomer took her inside. She held the carry case as such an angle my cat was forced to the front of the carrier. But after waiting 3 weeks for this appointment I figured it would be okay. When I picked her up (they held her to 4pm due to sedation) she was soaked in urine because she had no where to use the bathroom all day. She was scared to death when I let her put of the carry case. The main reason I took her in was to have a summer haircut, this cost me $75 + $33.50 to sedate her. This picture is the result of their grooming service. They cut a small patch of matted fur off her back and nothing more. They are so busy and so backed out on their schedule that just to busy to provide quality care. read more

I will attempt to write this as to not rant and rave. A month ago my beloved cat whiskers was bitten by a large venomous snake in the throat area. He couldn't breath and his head swollen up twice its size. I live two miles from this vet clinic. As my cat was dying in my lap driving to this vet I was told by a technician on the phone that they would be closing in thirty minutes and they are cleaning up. I was given advice to take him to the emergency clinic 25 miles away. SMH. End of rant. I dont care how many good reviews this vet gets. They failed the test. THEY FAILED. This was my second animal emergency in a year of living here in the Panhandle. Both times I was treated with the professionalism of a Neandertal. Whiskers survived after three thousands dollars worth of anti venom. SMFH. read more

I was charged $110 to have my dogs nails trimmed. They refused to give her heartworm meds without a test, even though she was already tested. They proceeded to use scare tactics to try and get me to spend the extra cash on the test . The doctor said, "I would really hate for her to get heartworms. They're fatal, you know? They'll kill her." I understand. That's why I explained to them I wanted to refill her meds after running out. Then, I was told a small growth was nothing to worry about. Then I was told it was cancer and they wanted to operate for $560. The whole time I was there, it felt like a production line. The vet assistants didn't want to listen, only move as quickly as possible to the next room. The doctor was pushing for tests and surgeries. So... Pretty much, the $110 I spent got my dogs nails trimmed. I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

I had been taking my pets to dogwood and hated it so I was asking around and a lot of people recommended this place and I am SO glad I switched. Dogwood was money hungry and liked to add unnecessary and potentially harmful procedures and shots to my bill every time I went, but THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. They actually care about my pets and actually pet and play with them when they have time. They don't try to sneak in any extras, they also treat me very nicely as well! When searching for a new vet in the area, one of my first questions was if services such as nail trims and routine shots could take place in the room w/ me or my husband holding our female. Front desk assured me this was perfectly fine and encourage such things when it comes to easing the animal's anxiety and experience. Go for nail trim...I was told I couldn't hold my dog during a nail trim because my dog might bite me. I also wasn't impressed with how they aggressively positioned our male dog during his appointment a month earlier. He has a disability in his back leg and they pulled him in such a way that he fell down. Our female's visit was the final test. Did not meet expectations. read more

I visited this vet hospital after trying a few in the area. I am extremely pleased, not only are they reasonably priced but they were very caring. The other clinics we went to my VERY nervous dog started shaking uncontrollably and whining etc. As soon as we walked in here my dog sat with me and just panted(which was light years beyond what he did elsewhere). Also, when I was hugely pregnant, the staff helped me, my kids, and my crazy dog (who had broke his nail past the quick and was all bandaged up) out to the car. For any cat owners out there, I want to share the bad experience I had today at Southside Animal Hospital in Crestview (sorry for the essay). I arrived for our appt on time and after filling out the paperwork for new patients, we waited 15mins before being taken back by the vet tech. After asking if I wanted a fecal sample taken, she leaves to get the vet but doesn't return for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, my cat starts to get agitated since the office is noisy from barking dogs and a cat having an unpleasant experience in another exam room. The tech returns with the vet and tries to remove my cat from his carrier by grabbing him and scruffing him, but he refuses and starts to hiss and swipe at the tech. So the vet tells her to "get the gloves", and the tech leaves and comes back with a pair of arm-length gloves to try and handle my cat but it just made things 10x worse. So after trying for a minute to get him out of the carrier by tipping it forward and shaking it, as well as wrapping him in his blanket to pick him up, the vet administers his feline leukemia shot through the carrier's mesh and said they wouldn't be able to complete the comprehensive exam due to not being able to handle him. The vet also stated that the next time my cat comes in and reacts that way, they'll have to use sedation in order to complete the exam. I received some medicated wipes I needed for him and then I was told to go to the counter to pay. From the time the vet came in and left, it was 5 minutes total that passed. I was charged $63.50 for the vaccine, $9.90 for the wipes, and $27 for the comprehensive exam and administration of the vaccine. I challenged the $27 charge because the vet wasn't able to examine my cat at all. But after the tech at the counter double-checked with the vet, she came back and confirmed that the $27 was for the 15-minute time slot, regardless of the fact that the vet didn't exam him at all. So I asked if they had military discount and she said they don't, which part of me thinks they just didn't want to offer it to me because I challenged the $27. So to sum it up, we were charged for $90 for a single vaccine for my cat. The vet seemed very uncomfortable and almost afraid of my cat (the tech was taking all my cat's jabs, not once did the vet try to coax my cat out of the carrier) and we felt the appt was rushed. Every other vet I've been to has taken the time to let my cat get acclimated to the environment while staying in the exam room to ease him out and he always comes out after a few minutes. Not to mention I've always paid under $100 for my cat's annual visits that included not just feline leukemia but also rabies vaccines and fecal testing. But this vet was quick to try and get him out of his carrier, quick to bring out the gloves (which probably smell like other animals and caused my cat to freak out, on top of the noise and smells that included a particularly strong wet dog smell), and quick to take my money. My cat has never reacted so aggressively during a vet visit, he's always kept his cool because he was always given enough time to spend with the vet before they tried touching him (even in busy vet clinics that smelled like dog), he was never rushed and never forcefully removed from his carrier. I even warned them that he was agitated but I didn't realize we only had a 15-minute time slot (which explains why the visit felt so rushed and short since we spent 10 out of the 15 minutes waiting in the exam room for the vet to come in), nor did I realize how their pricing works and that they don't offer military discount. This visit was entirely overpriced and we didn't get to accomplish what I set out to do, which was getting a comprehensive exam of my cat (that I ended up still paying for and will have to pay for again at a different vet clinic). I'll be searching for a vet that's more reasonably priced and patient with cats, as well as military friendly. Bottom line - if you have a cat that gets uneasy at vet visits, I don't recommend going to Southside Animal Hospital. read more

The veterinarians & staff here are professional and compassionate. I have taken my dogs here for years & had several emergencies, most recently when my dog ate part of a highly toxic Sago Palm. They are wonderful they are the only place that I will take my animals to they treat my dogs like they are children and I love that about this place I have a dog that has a really bad back and this is the only place that I can take my dog to, too get groomed and he has never been hurt or comeback injured I will never stop taking him there I absolutely love Dr Martin to me this is the best veterinarian hospital in the area even if I lived far away I would still come to this veterinarian 5 stars and more trust me this is a very very safe hospital and a good place to bring your animals they will treat your animals like children they love their love dogs and cats and and they just love all animals as if they were people you cannot ask for more than that. read more

We took are 6 week doberman here to prepare for his ear trim. He is now 7 months and the experience has been terrible and I question if they actually knew what they were talking about. My puppy developed sores from their initial bandaging (I was later told by another vet that he should have had his bandages changed after a couple of days, not a week later!) their process for posting after the surgery was horrible and involved a pound of masking tape every time. They were not helpful at all, I eventually went to YouTube to find more efficient ways to post his ears. I'm not going back and if you have a doberman looking for an ear trim avoid this vet and do your research before choosing a vet to work with. read more

It will not be a good situation!!! we can not have them wait outside as transport vehicle has no A/C. They understood and said fine be here @ 4:45. We arrived and they had forgotten this arrangement. Our dogs were in the hot surburban w/ windows cracked at the back of the parking lot for 15 minutes waiting to be called in when an employee decides to start walking dogs in the back fenced area. Have you ever sat in a hot car when 3 large dogs start barking loudly in your ears at the dogs right outside your window while an employee sits and eats a bowl of Chinese soup? I have! We left!
