Wow. The service here is amazing. This is my first time coming to Southside bar and the outside seating was perfect and relaxing. Despite being by the street I didn't even notice! The waiter was super cute, and I never know what to order so he made me one of his favorites and let me tell you, it was incredible. I've never had a variety of drinks that were so unique and delicious. So happy that I came to Southside bar today! A MUST GO!

I have mixed feelings. I guess that means I might have to go back to give it one last try. I walked in and found a booth, no acknowledgement, bar tender and server at the bar talking, I was completely ignored. There are cute little signs at the table that tell you to order at the bar, I just didn't know you had to go to the bar to be acknowledged. The service wasn't welcoming. I got the feeling that if you came in and ordered a drink or left, they didn't care one way or another. I had questions about their drink menu, but the bar tender said it was his second shift, wasn't sure of all the drinks and were out of a lot of the ingredients. Uhm. I asked for him to create something and told him the kind of drinks I liked. He concocted a drink that was actually pretty good. Not worth the $9, though. Bar food menu didn't look very exciting and I'm not an oyster person. I liked the atmosphere inside, but not likely to return.

    Sardines, etc.

Best bar in Bellingham/Fairhaven, for cocktails. Classic cocktails on the menu, great chill vibe, tasty snacks (sardines are a must). They don't have full meals, but that's ok because that's not what you go there for.

    The bar.

The Southside Bar has it all: Booths, bar, Brian, a vintage photo booth, savvy attitude, interesting clientele, oysters... and Frank Sinatra! Chatted a bit with Frank; he said he did it his way. You really should check out this place... just don't take my spot at the bar.

Manager kicked us out because our real ID's were "flimsy". Refused to let us speak to anyone else. Super frustrating and wont be returning.

Best cocktails in fairhaven and a fun prohibition-era vibe. Neat oyster bar in the back I haven't tried yet.

Each used n/a spirits (n/a mezcal in the latter) and a symphony of sophisticated ingredients, which wish I tell you what. Each had a speared dried citrus slice and a luscious ginger bite (or something!) a top. The first had included honey, but it wasn't sweet--just complexified with a little snap to it that the honey smoothed; the second was a little sweeter in tone, including a bit of huckleberry along with the mezcal. (Connor might recall them by my play name for them. Inspired by a book in my hand on collecting meteorites, I nicknamed the first the "Extraterrestrial Visitor" and the second the "Heavenly Visitor.") They were so delicious I suggested he put them on the menu. If he does or doesn't, no matter. Just ask him if he has time to get creative for you. He'll ask you flavor tone preferences, or you can just go for whatever he wants to make, like I did. Again, he is excellent. I enjoyed my lovely drinks with a Caesar salad (another OMG!) which included crispy bacon bits and loads of tiny shreds of a delicious white cheese along with a creamy dressing. It was scrumptious as was the very lovely charcuterie plate. Pistachios, green apple slices, fat outstanding Castelvetrano olives (caution: with pits), a luscious pepper jelly that went beautifully dipped into with their choice of excellent crackers, delicately flavored salami and a prosciutto so elegantly-flavored it could make you weep. And it was lovely enjoying it all on their "porch" on a sunny day.

The place has potential but honestly disappointed. See photo below of the Hummus Platter. Really? Next came the "Baked Brie with Figs & Cherries" - which sounded delicious. No figs in sight - yes, a ramekin of baked brie with a bit of cherry in it, but... uninspired. We also ordered the Stuffed Potobello - and left most of it on the plate. Pros? It was close to our hotel, and has charming half-moon booths. Summary? Uninspired with potential.

There is some outdoor seating for those warm summer evenings. The service was fine. The drinks were also fine and fairly priced. The menu choices are fairly limited, and the entrees are all on the pricey side, especially the scallops. We shared the ricotta & toast appetizer and the chicken liver mousse. The ricotta consistency was very soft, almost whipped and needed salt, but there was no salt or pepper on the tables. The flavor of the chicken liver dish, under a rather thick layer of fat, was excellent; however, "mousse" is supposed to be soft but this was so cold that it was hard. Both items were served with an inadequate portion of toasted baguette which insured that more had to be ordered! Still, taste-wise, this and the duck fries were the hit of the night. The 4 beautifully large scallops were partially undercooked, the burgers came topped with "sauce chien" (dog sauce) with no warning that it might be too spicy for some, and the "creative" duck confit, left me wishing for the "classic" preparation! I don't see a return visit for us.

Wonderful food and drinks. I started with oyster shooters (Willapa Bay) along with a Lion's Tail cocktail. Sierra said the bourbon and lime complement each other. I wouldn't have thought so and thought it a bit of an odd choice. But she was right and I was wrong: it was fabulous. One of the most delicious drinks I've ever had, for my tastes. She gave me several recommendations for dinner. I picked the Jalapeño Chicken. It was luscious and flavorful, but the best part of it was my choice of Balsamic Brussels sprouts as my side--oh my! These were so delicious I ordered two more batches to have at home. Lovely espresso martini to end it all.

We were seated promptly by a friendly hostess at a table in DT Fairhaven, and our server was the bartender. After being seated, we waited a long time without anyone taking our order. We eventually asked if we had a server and were told it was him, with no apology or explanation. We ordered drinks and food, but after more than 40 minutes, we noticed two tables seated after us had already been served, finished eating, and were leaving. At that point, we asked for the check and said we would not be staying. About 15 minutes later, the server returned with our food instead of the check. We declined the meal and sent it back. He then asked if we wanted it boxed to go, which we also declined. His reaction suggested frustration rather than understanding. We never got to try the food, so we can't comment on it. The service, however, was well below expectations given the restaurant's reputation. This was lunch on July 15, 2026. We may try The Black Cat again in the future, hoping this was just an off day.

They have a nice selection of taps (including more than just beer), some vintage video games, and offer live music regularly. On our most recent visit, we found one of our fave local musicians, Michael Dayvid, playing and managed to snag a cozy seat in the front row. We sipped our pints (I got an amber, Dude got an IPA) and enjoyed the show - right after a rousing game of Pac Man, of course. This is large space, so there's seating in the back if you don't want to be front row for the music. The service is friendly, too. Parking can be a little challenging, as it's only street parking, but it's not too bad. In a town that has a lot of breweries, but could use a few more cozy taphouses, Corner Taphouse fills a niche (especially in the Fairhaven area). I hope they continue to thrive!
