To start with, the man who took my order was surly and obviously not very happy to be there. My order was a simple burger for $15. Despite that there were hardly any people in the restaurant, it seemed to take forever and then some before it was finally served. I didn't expect a world class burger but the patty was so tiny that it reminded me of the old television ad where the man is looking under the bun for the meat and exclaims "where's the beef"? I took my family here for dinner last Thursday and we were all very disappointed. We waited over an hour for our food, and when it finally arrived it was cold. The station burger is small and tasted greasy and off. You have to pay $5 extra for fries, otherwise a burger with no side is like $14. Our server seemed annoyed when we asked for smaller drinks with lids for my grandkids, and ended up charging us the full $4 for lemonades which were maybe 4 oz. (same price as adult full-size lemonade.) We had originally asked for chocolate milk but they claimed they didn't have any. I wonder how they make their chocolate shakes then? At least 2 families got up and left without eating. That wasn't an option for us, since the kids would have been upset and we were all so hungry. Then when I paid, I tried to explain to our server why I wasn't leaving a 20% tip and she started making excuses and arguing with me. The only good thing was the kids got to hug the Bob's Big Boy statue, a long standing tradition! I used to love this place, but none of us will be going back again. read more

We were hungry after a hike at North Chuckanut Mountain trail, and this was the closest burger place as we were craving burgers. The place is at the cor er of the street, so the place is in an L shape. Once you go in, there are some tables to your right by some window and more tables to your left. The bar is in the inner part. We got the chuckwagon burger and the triumph chicken sandwich. The triumph is in the sandwich section of the menu, but it comes on a sesame bun. The chicken was crispy yet tender on the inside but the cole slaw kind of made the rest a little dry. There is bbq sauce but not enough. The chuckwagon was good too. At first, I thought it was small as the bun was small however there is a big beef patty. The outside of the bun was a little hard to chew. It comes with au jus to dip which helped a bit. Disappointing First Experience Unfortunately, our visit didn't leave the best first impression. Our group (5 adults and 2 kids) arrived after walking the Bayview Trail. We had called ahead to check if they accepted reservations or had room for a party our size. They said they were first come, first served, but assured us there was space--so we headed over. When we arrived, we stood in the entrance waiting to be acknowledged or seated. Multiple servers passed us--at least four different staff members--but not one greeted us or even made eye contact. It felt... strange and awkward. There were only a few occupied tables inside and three outdoors, so it definitely wasn't busy. When someone finally addressed us, we asked to sit outside (it was warm inside and the kids were getting restless). While it shouldn't have been a big deal, the request seemed to trigger an odd flurry of unspoken communication. One male staff member consulted a few women about putting tables together, and the vibe was... tense. The group of servers huddled up, looking visibly annoyed, then silently began setting up a table outside. Not once did they speak to us during the process--we were just left standing there, again, while they moved chairs and set water glasses. Once the table was fully set, they simply walked away without saying a word. After several more minutes of standing there awkwardly, I finally stopped one of them to ask if we could sit down. Her response? "Oh yeah, sorry." No explanation, just more strange energy. After finally being seated, we waited again--for quite a while--before anyone came over to take our order. We even considered leaving to find another spot. When our server eventually did arrive, she was polite and fairly pleasant, though there were a couple of passive-aggressive comments that didn't go unnoticed. That said, everyone in our group was kind and polite throughout--aside from my one question about being seated, we were very easygoing. The food was fine. Between us, we ordered four burgers, a kid's chicken strip meal, a salad, fried pickles, four sodas, and a non-alcoholic beer. The total, including tip, was just under $200. All in all, while the food was acceptable, the service was off-putting enough that I wouldn't recommend this place--especially if you're hoping for a welcoming or attentive experience. We had great food (all our burgers, sandwiches, fries, and salads were perfectly made) and excellent, friendly service at the Filling Station. They even gave my nephew a free shake! We have eaten both fish sandwiches (Salmon and fresh line caught cod), we have also eaten burgers and salads and onion rings. Yum. The food is fresh and consistent. Great local burger joint. They elevate their food, but not so much that it loses that classic hamburger taste. Good selection of drinks, as well as many other things on the menu, but not too many. Really cool environment, at both locations. It's like stepping back in time with good old fashioned service. A good locals place for sure. read more

My husband and I went to the filling station tonight excited to have our favorite chicken sandwich ever, the firebird, and we were sorely disappointed. There was a sign in front indicating a recent menu change and claiming cheaper prices. The chicken filets were significantly smaller, much lower quality than we remember, and the sauce runny and lacking "fire." Now fries are no longer included with the sandwiches but an additional $4. Overall pretty disappointed and safe to say I won't be having cravings for our old favorite fried chicken sandwich which apparently doesn't exist anymore. read more

Wow I hate to say it but I just had my last meal I will ever have at the filling station. This was the best burger in town. They just changed the menu to raise prices and give you less food. They have gone to smaller beef patties and made the menu Al cart. So from $14 for burger and side to $12 for just the burger and the size is half. The. If you want a second patty they charge an additional $3 and for a side of fries or tots they charge $4 so you would be at $18 for what you got before. On top of that the service was terrible. We used to visit fairly regularly but hadn't been in a while. We visited the Fairhaven location on a Friday evening about 5:00 and we were seated immediately and then nothing..... 20 minutes later we got water and gave our orders. It was another 20 minutes before we received our food with no utensils or napkins. We also noticed since our last visit you no longer get fries with your burger, it's $4.95 for a small side portion of fries. So between the overpriced food, lack of service and the noticeably dirty location we won't be returning. read more

Just wow!! Such a cool place (loved the decor with the old license plates) but beyond that the food was excellent. I had the most delicious burger with bacon jam (Jaguar) and the Volt salad- both yum!!! My kids were disappointed there isn't a closer location near Seattle and they are picky eaters!! They got the Kids Rumble (not pictured). Mist importantly- the service was excellent!! There was just a very kind and family friendly vibe which to be honest I didn't expect in hip Bellingham. As a native PNW-er, I'm super picky about my salmon, so rarely order it out - let alone to go. But I took a chance and ordered the Wet Nellie Coho sammy with avocado, tomato, cabbage, lemon dill aioli all on a potato roll, and I'm SO glad I did. The prices definitely seemed steep, but I could tell when eating that the products were fresh and of a higher quality than what you'd expect from most other small restaurant chicken sandwiches.
