I was looking for something simple, but ended up ordering their Reuben sandwich which is one of the best that I have had... ever! I want to go back! First of all, the current rating, at 4.5 stars doesn't reflect our experience tonight. For a simple soup and sandwich, the quality of food provided only deserves a single star. The French onion soup had a super salty canned flavor and was also lukewarm. The same was true for a roast beef sandwich. Two words. Sonic burger. Actually...probably would have preferred a Sonic burger over the brisket burger we ordered. Asked for it to be cooked medium. Came out well done. No flavor. Buffalo chicken sandwich was strange as the Buffalo sauce was made with a BBQ base. Very thick and no flavour. The chicken itself was also very dry as it was overcooked. We were in Slidell on a work trip looking for good places to eat. After reading the great reviews on this place we decided to give it a try. All of the food was so incredibly heavy. And the portions were beyond huge. It made me feel queasy after eating a small amount. I'm not super picky about this usually but the atmosphere and lighting is unpleasant as well. Something about the lighting hurts your eyes and head. And to top things off, when I got about halfway done with my drink, I realized there was an empty sweet n low packet floating in the cup. I didn't use a sweet n low. But on the plus side, our waitress was absolutely lovely and very attentive. The burgers looked like they could be ok but not worth finding out in my opinion. read more

We decided to stay outside of NOLA during our travels, and searched several menus before deciding on Southside. The Irish Channel Gumbo is what helped us make our decision. It was very good! I got half a shrimp muffuletta and couldn't even finish half of it! My husband got the seafood combo and was really impressed with the fried oysters and sweet potato fries. We also got Bread pudding to go. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night around 5:30, but we didn't have much of a wait. Our order was taken quickly, drinks were refilled before our glasses were empty, and our waiter was very attentive. So glad this is the place we chose to try while in Slidell! read more

This is definitely a 5 star review. I knew it was legit when I found the parking lot overflowing and people parked on the grass for lunch. I had the daily special, which was spaghetti with a two huge meatballs. They were well seasoned and had a flavor that tasted like quality meat and not just breadcrumbs! We should have sent the so called Seafood Gumbo back but we didn't and we didn't eat it all.The crayfish balls were delicious and so was the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms.But come on Chris put the 5 shrimp in the Gumbo.That I have been told is what the Gumbo should have.In the land of Seafood plentiful 5 shrimp is still a joke.Bill was $55.00 Server got a $30.00 tip.After she received her tip never seen her again.No more Shrimp and Oyster Gumbo for me.False advertisement. read more

The food earns this place 3-4 stars easily. Ate dinner there tonight. This was my 3rd visit. It's a hometown, feel-good, comfort food type place w/unique decor (model planes, antique guns, Katrina flags, etc.). You can't go wrong with ANYTHING beefy - French Dip, loaded fries, RB poboy... it's delicious. I recommend the French Dip. Order a side of fries because you'll want more to dip into the Au Jus. Service is usually really great. It was maybe 3/5 stars last visit, but maybe they were short staffed... For a good meal, this is definitely worth the few minutes drive off of the common Slidell stops of Gause or Airport Road. Take the Old Spanish Trail or Fremaux exit - only 2-3 minutes off of those. After living in Slidell for 20+ years I finally decided to eat at Southside Cafe. Not sure why I waited so long. Overall a fantastic place to dine in my opinion. Great look and atmosphere. There were many fantastic menu choices and my food and the service did not disappoint! Top notch! Very happy with this part of my visit!! My only let down was shear negligence of the COVID protocols of wearing masks and social distancing. Very very rarely did I see ANY employee with a mask. This includes hostesses, cooks, servers and bartenders. Social distancing seems to be an afterthought as well. ESPECIALLY at and around the bar area. They do advertise all these precautions are being taken, yet in my observations, they are not. I definitely will be back but only after this COVID crap is over.
