I haven't been to the dentist is 3 years because I had previous bad experiences and I was afraid to go back. However I couldn't be more happy with my experience here. The dentist was extremely gentle and the whole cleaning was easy and fast. Instead of using the tools that usually cause me to get sore bloody gums, he cleaned my teeth with an ultrasonic tooth cleaner and let me tell you.... It was almost 100% pain free. I will continue to go here and am happy to recommend it to anyone who gets anxiety when going to the dentist. read more

I was scheduled with Dr. Dunn to have a routine cleaning done. Upon entering the facility I was immediately impressed with the ambiance of the facility (not the pictures). When greeted by both the receptionist and Dr. Dunn, the dentist, I felt very much welcome and that they were very warm and friendly. Dr. Dunn worked very quickly and efficiently when cleaning my teeth and I am very happy with the result. He also complimented my teeth. read more

Stay away at all costs!! The dentist has to be one of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I have a severe toothache and he wouldn't even address it. He didn't take X-rays. All he did was clean my teeth and bleach my teeth. I didn't even ask or want my teeth bleach because they didn't need it. He also referred me to another dentist without even looking at the tooth that was bothering me because he said he didn't deal with those problems. Why be a dentist if this is how you are going to operate your practice!?!? read more

This place is awful. Went in for a routine cleaning, knowing that I also had a new cavity that I wanted to be checked out. No x-rays were taken, yet the dentist could somehow know that the cavity wasn't near the nerve so I didn't need a route canal. He gave me a shot of novocaine and was drilling within 10 seconds. After a minute or so it became clear to me that I was not numb, so I asked for another shot. He gave me one and kept drilling... I was not numb for any of the 10-minute procedure. He was clearly in a rush (probably something to do with the golf game I heard him and the receptionist talking about while I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time). I was literally jumping out of the chair in pain and was in shock by the time I stumbled out. I have since seen another dentist and had x-rays taken. The filling will need to be redone because he didn't get all of the cavity out before he filled it and, turns out, it is close enough to the nerve that I may need a root canal in the future if I don't choose to just get it now and have it be done with. This dentist clearly has no concern for his patients and just wants to get through procedures as fast as possible. Do not go here. read more

This place is no good. I went last year for a routine checkup. One month later I had some pain in my mouth, went back and Dr. Dunn said that I had a cavity between two teeth. He recommended two crowns and before you knew it I was out $1600 after insurance! At least he gave me some pain pills. A month later I get the same pain, sharp pains molars, I go back for an emergency visit, and the dentist says I cracked the third tooth behind it which may have got infected? I said that was probably his fault when he removed the first two teeth and he proceeds to tell me I need a root canal and third crown. Luckily the root canal was successful and I return to get the permanent crown with more pain pills. He nicely said he'd only make me pay half of the third crown to keep my as his customer. It's been six months, I have three crowns, a root canal and the pain has returned. My tooth is now super sensitive to cold (to the point where even brushing my teeth hurts). I will not be returning to this office and have moved my primary care elsewhere. It's too bad because my schedules where on time and his location is great. I say in person Dr. Dunn is really nice, but I'm flat out broke from spending money on my teeth and I cannot afford another one of his mistakes. read more

My experience is similar to the other 1-star reviews here. The way they have treated me in the office and chair is the same as the way I have been treated with insurance and billing and information. They continuously misquote what I owe, and have never once mentioned my options or the cost, with or without coverage, going into any procedure. Most recently Dr. Dunn performed a crown which my insurance insists only needed a filling and will not cover. The 976 dollar bill was presented to me for the first time as I was drugged up and leaving the office with crap all over my half-dead face and a temporary crown in my mouth (point of no return aka the prey is in the trap). The sweet lady at the front desk graciously gave me the option to pay some of the $1000 up front rather than all. I will not soon forget the way she threw out numbers like 750, 500, 997, as she punched away on her calculator, as if she was ringing me up at a little league concession stand. Except she seemed less upset than most volunteer concession workers when she needed to repeatedly fix her ever-fluctuating calculations. I paid 250 and left. But I will still need to pay in full upon returning for the permanent crown. Unless of course the insurance changed its mind and covered half. But there would be no reason for the insurance to do that, since the case was only submitted once and was no resubmitted until I called and forced them to resubmit with a narrative and photos. Overall it is a wham-bam-pay-me-exorbitantly-sir operation, and I will not be back if I can help it. read more

I had an HMO dental plan thought it was a fixed plan but it wasn't accepted at this office as agreed through Delta Dental agreement way over charged. Had to go elsewhere found a dentist who accepted the terms got my dentures at a third of Southside Dental cost. Now I'm smiling four sure. read more

Dr. Dunn was my dentist for 5 or 6 years and I never had an issue. Last summer, he re-did a filling for me that lead to the tooth cracking which required a root canal and a crown. Dr. Dunn did not do the root canal but he did do the crown. The experience was horrible. After the crown was completed, I experienced several problems: 1. Chewing caused me discomfort directly at the site of the affected tooth. 2. The surrounding gums were overly sensitive and tended to bleed when flossing while I did not experience this issue elsewhere. 3. I noticed that food collected in a large gap between the rear tooth and the crowned tooth. I also noticed that the gap between the crowned tooth and front tooth was unusually tight. This required constant attention to keep clear. 4. During the crown preparation procedure, Dr. Dunn made contact with both the molar to be crown and the surrounding molars with the drill burr. He stated that the burr was "jumping" and asked his assistant to get a new burr. The entire process to prepare the crown took maybe 20 minutes - Dr. Dunn seemed very rushed. Due to the discomfort, I visited Dr. Dunn again 3 months later to discuss my concerns. He evaluated the crown and determined that there were no issues and that I just needed to "keep it clean". After the fall visit, I decided to change dentists. As the various events had exhausted my annual insurance coverage for 2017, I waited until after the New Year to visit my new dentist. In early January of this year, my new dentist thoroughly reviewed the crown and took pictures were submitted to my insurance as evidence. He showed me the pictures which clearly explained the cause for my problems: an improperly crowned tooth. He indicated that the placement was poorly done and found that there was an exposed ledge causing food to become trapped which was irritating my gums. They also confirmed that there was what appeared to be burr damage to both surrounding molars that required repairs and that the placement of the crown so tight to the front molar that it was causing decay of the tooth. He has recommended that I redo the crown and repair the surrounding teeth. Luckily, none of my other teeth had issues that Dr. Dunn either failed to treat or improperly treated - my new dentist asked when I had my teeth cleaned last and was surprised that it was 6 months ago - she spent a significant amount of time properly cleaning and polishing my teeth. I told her he never spent that amount of time cleaning my teeth. I also told her that Dr. Dunn told me that the staining of my teeth was permanent and he was recommending a whitening kit. After she was done, my teeth were nice and white! I worked with my insurance to file a dispute which was eventually resolved and cleared from my record. I had the crown redone this past week by my new dentist who found that the old crown was not properly sealed and caused part of my tooth to rot. After repairing the damage from Dr. Dunn, my new dentist spent a great deal of time preparing and measuring my tooth to ensure the crown would fit properly - using procedures Dr. Dunn never did. I cannot stress this enough - please take my warning - DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. The entire process was a nightmare and cost a significant amount of money to fix in the end. My new dentist is wonderful and is one of the highest rated dentists in Pittsburgh - he doesn't charge any more than Dr. Dunn and the workmanship is superior. read more

I had three root canals with crowns done at South Side Dental. All three had to be redone- and all included massive tooth infections. That's several thousand dollars worth of poor dental work and a lot of time off of work. Definitely poor, sloppy work. read more

If I could give this place no star, I definitely will. Horrible, horrible customer service. All they care is money, nothing else. There is no basic trust on the patient. I got my invisalign from Dr. DiCarlo. I told him in advance that I could only stay in pittsburgh for a year then I would move to some other place after graduation, cause I'm aware of that the whole treatment takes at least a year and half and you have to come back to see your doctor once a while. He promised that it wouldn't be a problem. They can just mail the new sets to you without me coming back. However, that didn't work. Before I leave I still have at least half a month to go and I DO need to come back cause my teeth need some adjustment to fit the new set. Instead of coming up with a solution all they told me is I had to make the payment immediately! Yes, that's the first thing came to their mind! Don't get me wrong, it's not like I still have several thousand dollar balance. My whole treatment costs $3500 and I paid $3000 within two month after I started my treatment. I WANNA hold the $500 until I finish my treatment cause I don't want to make them become very irresponsible since the patient is away. However, I DO understand that this may not be acceptable for them. I'm willing to make the full payment before I go. Unfortunately, I got a phone call on the day before my last appointment and was told that I HAD TO make a full payment within 24hrs, otherwise they will cancel the appointment and won't release the new sets. I was so shocked by the dramatic change of their attitudes. I understand that they might think I will be away so they may lose this $500. So I told them how about I had this appointment and make the payment in three days before I go. Surprisedly, they said NO. I was so speechless. It has been ridiculous. I'm a graduate student in pharmacy and just got a job in hospital. I'm pretty sure that I'm able to make the damn $500 payment. ALL I have to do is do some transfer and it takes time. Sadly, they have no trust on patient. How are they expecting the trust from patients? No, I wouldn't recommend this place to you, from the bottom of my heart. read more

I am having the same issue as the other post, Dr. Dunn has done a total of 4 crowns, recently I was told I had tooth decay, he then drilled my teeth and slapped 2 temporary crowns. For 2 weeks my teeth and gums remained sore. When I called and spoke with him I was told it was normal for my teeth and gums to still be sore. I then got the crowns put on and a week later I am still in pain. And once again I am out of $1600 as well. When I mention my concerns he talks like a "used car sales man" and tells me it is normal. At this point, I am 100% dissatisfied and the office is old and shows the lack of caring for his patients and their well being!! DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GO BROKE WITH NO RESULTS, the convenience and office hours are not worth the hassle!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Dunn appears to be a nice guy but...beware!!!!!!!!!! read more

I've been going here for about 3 years now. I like Dr. DiCarlo, but he himself doesn't do root canals so I had to see Dr. Tony. I had an appointment scheduled at noon. I was running late so I called at noon to say I'd be there in about 10 minutes. They said that was fine. I arrived at 12:15, and Dr. Tony was there with the receptionists. It was lunchtime and one of the ladies went to get lunch. Another told me that he would be with me in a few minutes. Well 45 minutes later he still hadn't come out to get me! I understand it was lunch time but if he wanted an hour for lunch he shouldn't have booked me at noon. I understand they usually run late and I have no issue with maybe taking 15 minutes to hurry up and eat something, but 45?! If he wanted to do that they should've told me on the phone when I called, or when they told me to sit down. I also work with clients and appointments. My time is valuable too. I can't even fathom me taking 45 minutes to eat knowing one of my clients is sitting there waiting for me. I know I was late but still! That was extremely unprofessional. I walked out. I tried to ring the bell to tell someone I was leaving but nobody came so I left. read more
