I wrote a review about this practice last June (2025) after having a great experience with the PA and office staff. But I felt the need to come back and share an update. As stated before, over the years, I've had both good and bad experiences with OB/GYNs across multiple states, so I don't say this lightly. Recently, I needed surgery and met with Dr. Wilson. I truly can't say enough about how comforting he was. His bedside manner is EXCEPTIONAL! He is personable, attentive, patient, and incredibly thorough in his explanations. He also has a great sense of humor, which made a stressful situation much easier to handle. I immediately felt at ease, like I was in very capable hands. He performed my surgery, and the entire experience from scheduling to pre-op, post-op, follow-ups, and even interactions with the hospital staff was seamless. Everything exceeded my expectations. I can confidently say there is no need to look any further. Southwest Contemporary Women's is OUTSTANDING!! But honestly... feel free to try and prove me wrong! read more

I had an amazong experience with Southwest Contemporary Women's Care - Gilbert, like I do every time I go. The staff are all so very kind and courteous. Dr Mayes is amazing. She is incredibly kind, understanding and genuinely interested in my life (not just the medical stuff but also things like how my kids are doing etc). She cares about me as a person and not just my medical struggles. She is extremely patient with my medical anxiety and goes above and beyond what some doctors would do to make me feel comfortable while having procedures or exams done that cause me anxiety. Dr Mayes delivered my younger two kids but after that I just had my PCP do my yearly exams for awhile --but when my PCP retired I decided to go back to Dr Mayes for gynecological care and I am so glad that I did. I was giving this place a try. I'm a single mom, pregnant with my second. simple and to the point. I had an appointment today and they called me to make sure I was coming. I was running late and I said I was 4 minutes away and the lady on the phone said it was Okaee and I could still be seen. 4 minutes later I was there and she said I couldn't be seen. Update: I don't know how to respond to the comment on here. I was really upset that day. And talking about it with the office manager doesn't put me back on track, it doesn't get me seen for the important ultrasound I was scheduled for. It doesn't take away the stress and tears that not only I went through, but my baby had to go through. It was a struggle getting there and I made sure I could still be seen before I arrived. I will be switching over to a new ob office that I know I can trust. And I hope the desk lady that lied to me over the phone and then not only embarrassed me in person but wasted my time and efforts, gets a job that she's good at. I saw doctor Balk for HRT. She said she couldn't help me because I had stage zero breast cancer 6 years ago and had a double mastectomy. They took the black box's label off estrogen and have proven with scientific data that estrogen does not cause breast cancer and is actually preventative in heart and brain health and many other areas. It's a longevity hormone. For a doctor that specializes in women's health Balk is decades behind the research. ​Find a doctor who is current on the research so you can get the help you deserve. read more

I saw dr paul since it was a month waiting time to see my other doctor there and he was VERY dismissive and did not listen to me at all. I went in for extreme pain and he told me to communicate with my husband more I was very taken back and was in shock he had said this. I switched offices immediately and will not return here. read more

If I could give them lower I would due to how disappointed I am in their service. I was well into my second trimester and still getting sick very often. The sickness was in fact it was getting much worse. Not sure if this was normal or not, I called in to check with the on-call nurse. After A few back-and-forth phone calls and some hospital stays, I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. It basically just means you're gonna be really sick majority of the pregnancy if not the entire time. I was so concerned that I was not getting enough nutrients and water to sustain a pregnancy. The doctor assured me that she was healthy and everything was okay. I was prescribed some Zofran to help with the nausea. As this is my very first pregnancy and the zofran seemed to do so little, I had a few questions at my appointments just to make sure everything that I was experiencing was normal. Especially, because I didn't know anything about this sickness until I had been diagnosed with it. While trying to work with this sickness, it became very difficult. I worked taking phone calls from home which sounds like it's easy. However, it got very difficult as the amount of times I was throwing up in a day outnumbered phone calls I was supposed to be taking at work. I asked my care team to please help me get accommodations so that I would not lose my job. They gave me an exception for five times a day to be sick. I was unable Control how many times a day I was getting sick, and at that point my work suggested that I get on FMLA or some sort of long-term disability. I spoke with my doctor, who is Dr. T and he assured me he would go ahead and fill out the paperwork so that I wouldn't lose my job. My work had sent in the paperwork for long term disability and I had contacted the office a few times to see if they had gotten it or filled it out. They told me that they hadn't and would let me know when they did. After a month, my husband called in and stated we really needed to get this done as I was on the cusp of losing my job. At the very last appointment I had there the Dr was rude to my husband and I. We assumed it was due to the fact that we had to call in a few times to see if we could get this important paperwork done. The doctor said something along the lines of how something is always wrong with me and how it seemed they're unable to keep their patients happy. My ultrasound was also awkward until we realized they had marked my chart as a problem patient which made the staff very unwelcoming towards us. We also noticed they had an office manager watching us in the waiting room as if we had done something horrible. We were extremely offended by this as we had never called and yelling nor cussing. We just wanted to help to get this done so that I could keep my job. After about a month and a half I ended up losing my job due to the paperwork taking too long to be filled out. A full two months later, the office finally called saying that they had gotten the paperwork filled out and they were ready to send it in. They stated they needed me to make a payment in order for them to send it in to my job. I explained that it was no longer needed, and they could go ahead and shred the paperwork as well as cancel my upcoming appointments. I couldn't believe that I went to a doctor's office who not only blamed me for issues I was having during my pregnancy, but went out of their way to deliberately not help me when asked. If you're looking for a Doctor who is going to help you or will help answer any questions you may have about health issues. This is not the office for you. I felt completely unheard, Disregarded, and felt like I couldn't ask any questions without being told I was an issue. This was a horrible experience for my first pregnancy and has really made a hard pregnancy that much harder. I am now switched over to a new OB office. They're extremely kind and helpful. They've gone out of their way to make sure I get the help that I need and shared how hard HG can be. Wishing all the other expecting mothers there the best. read more

The women at the reception desk were immediately so welcoming and comforting that it eased some of my anxiety coming in. I saw Brittney today for my first well-woman exam in about 3 years. All of my previous exams have been so awful and painful to the point of tears during the last one but this was so quick and easy with her that I cried when she left room because I finally found a place where I actually look forward to going back. We talked about switching out my IUD, the possibility of being under sedation, but I completely trust Brittney to perform the switch if I can't be sedated. read more

But anyways I'm now 38ish wks and I still love this office. ------- I switched over at 26weeks pregnant to the SWCWC Gilbert location from MomDoc and boy is it NIGHT AND DAY! I couldn't be more pleased with this office. It was easy to schedule an appointment. The front office is welcoming and clean. The front desk girls are GREAT. They actually know what they are doing and are very lovely to deal with. The sonographers (ultrasound folks) are patient and have great bedside manner. They do all of your lab work there, including glucose testing, and even have a nice separate waiting room for that. I've been seeing doctor Mayes now and she's very nice. I'm due in about 14 weeks, at banner Desert if all goes to plan. I'll update with how everything goes then! So far I'm loving this office. Oh, they also have a great patient portal, and the lady that manages billing is great. She has responded immediately to my questions and it's very easy to pay bills. The patient portal allows you to view all of your patient information from visits. Very convenient! read more

I was a bit nervous about having a male doctor but I am so happy being in the care of Dr. Danielson for my pregnancy. I'd leave a lower review if it was possible. It was my first time with this office and I waited 3 months to see the doctor I wanted to see. Then the front office canceled my appointment without even contacting me. When I showed up for my appointment they let me know the next available appointment wouldn't be for another month. I rescheduled with a new doctor that could see me quicker. He was a total ass hole!!!!!!!!! Didn't even sit with me for 2 minutes! kept cutting me off, didn't listen, was rude, snarky, and when I shared I'd like to not be on birth control, he insisted it was my only option. My entire visit was probably 45 seconds long. Waited 3 months for him to not give one damn about me. Honestly the most unprofessional doctor I've ever met. The doctor told me I had pelvic floor dysfunction (i'm 20 years old that's not very likely) and didnt listen to anything i had to say! i went to get a second opinion and turns out i actually have stuff going on with my uterus and ovaries! this place is a mess! be careful with the information they give you, please! they also only spent 5 mins with me and then left, time is money to them! read more

I started going here not long ago to get on birth control, I've had seen 2doctors there and we're both super helpful and informative. Although whenever I've been calling to schedule appointments it's been hard! I call early, at noon and the afternoon but I'm just stuck on waiting. Every call I've made trying to make an appointment has been about 10minutes I'm waiting till I end the call. Unprofessional office staff/manager. Poor knowledge of infection control. Low quality NP. Do NOT go to this location. I have been going to this practice for more than 12 years. Originally, I was seeing Dr. Damore at the Tempe office. She provided excellent care including care provided through my pregnancies. I continued to go to this practice due to this positive experience and care. I had a much more negative experience at the Gilbert location. I am a nurse myself and always try to be forgiving, but I am done going to this place. I have experienced a NP at this location not being prepared for procedures beforehand and going in and out of the room for supplies during the procedure. For some reason this didn't bother me as much as much as the miscommunication I had with office staff - possibly because I am a nurse myself. Due to COVID, I purposely arrived at the time of my appointment so that I would not be sitting in the waiting room. This is common practice at most outpatient healthcare facilities to limit the spread of infection. The front end office staff was extremely rude to me stating I should have arrived 30 minutes early and that I would not be seen. The office manager did not even come out to speak to me about the manner, even after I requested. read more

I had an awful experience when meeting with my regular OB, Michelle Szymanowski, for a wellness visit. I explained that I was pregnant and she said they don't do confirmation of pregnancy until 8 weeks pregnant. Essentially making me feel as if I'm not pregnant until I'm 8 weeks. Then she transitioned the conversation to a fear based tone, explaining only statistics on mothers who have died or given birth to stillborns in the last 6 months, claiming all were unvaccinated (since I was denying the vaccine). This type of talk should be illegal from a provider. A vaccine is a choice, ESPECIALLY, when you are carrying life. Also she disclosed this information directly after I stated I would not want any vaccines. Conversation should have been over then, but she stated she "had legal obligation to share this information with me" again only around stats for moms that were not vaccinated, it included no info on their personal health. Mind you, I have seen this woman since I was 12 for my OB care. Fast forward to my confirmation of pregnancy appointment with Dr. Beienburg, which was an AMAZING experience. She was supportive of my choices, heard me out, and was already discussing our VBAC plan. Goes to show that if you don't have a good experience with one doc don't let that ruin your entire experience at a practice. There are doctors out there ready and willing to support YOU, not their own agendas. Don't stop until you find your Dr. Beienburg! Thank you Dr. Beienburg for being SWCWC saving grace. read more

I absolutely LOVE Michelle Szymanowski. I have been going to her for years and she is very knowledgeable and very sweet. I just saw a negative post about her. I'm sure that person did not have a good experience per her expectations of what she is looking for in a medical professional but everyone has different views on what we feel is excellent service. With that said, don't deter from going to see Michelle she's awesome, my opinion, but if you don't agree, the office has a lot of great docs to choose from. read more

Called as a new patient and got scheduled for Gilbert. Then found out they mis-scheduled me for Tempe. Called again and waited another two weeks to get in for this Monday, just got called and was told they wrongly scheduled me and I couldn't be seen for another two weeks. I've decided to not deal with the hassle and find another practice with reliable scheduling. read more

Dr. Wilson is a wonderful and dedicated doctor. He is very kind and caring. You can tell he truly cares about every one of his patients. He actually held my hand in the OR until I was went under because he knew how nervous I was. I had a Myomectomy surgery over a year and a half ago and he did an incredible job. He was very informative and explained the process very thoroughly in an elaborate manner. He answered all of my questions and addressed any concerns I had. He made me feel very comfortable. My wife and I are expecting our first child and were referred to this practice by a coworker. Our first meeting went well although the doctor was brief, we did feel the service was adequate. No issues. We were told that our next appointment would be on Jan 10. My wife had a question between our first visit and the scheduled Jan 10 appointment so we called their facility. The call was forwarded to a switchboard (common practice for this facility). The nurse she spoke to was helpful but let us know that the appointment was actually set for Jan 14. If we hadn't have called, we wouldn't have known and would have missed it-- this was most certainly a scheduling error on their part. More alarmingly, however, was when the nurse asked why we missed our viability ultrasound. We weren't informed of this appointment as it was never scheduled or even discussed by the doctor! The nurse called the doctor and then tried to backtrack saying that we didn't need the service because the doctor had confirmed the ultrasound herself. But this was after she confessed it was part of their protocol and was clearly surprised. My wife and I talked at length and decided to change our OBGYN. Our new facility performed the viability ultrasound (which is common practice) as well as a myriad of tests that Southwest Contemporary Women's Care did not perform (breast, pelvic exams). When we called to cancel our service, the switchboard operator did not ask why we were changing even after we stated we were dissatisfied with the service. Our take? There are a lot of high quality facilities that you can choose from. We noticed some red flags early that were enough to prompt us to move facilities. Our new facility is night and day different with quality of service! We are very happy now! Message to the owner: Everyone makes mistakes but if you don't get feedback from your dissatisfied customers you will not be able to address your flaws. read more

I would absolutely recommend this office to any of my friends/family and specifically Dr. Mayes. I've had such a great experience. I switched from another OBGYN office (a popular office in the area) where the doctor was very dismissive of my concerns and just not nice. Dr. Mayes has been SO helpful. She really listens to my concerns and I don't feel rushed when I am with her which is so valuable in a healthcare provider. She is exactly what you would want out of your OBGYN! I'm so happy to have found such a great doctor! Editing my review to add that they've always been on time for my appointments, which is amazing! Also, as a first time mom I've had a few questions come up and the nurses always call me back pretty promptly! So nice! Some other reviewers seemed to have had problems with scheduling etc. but they have such a great system down and if you just follow the directions that they give you things go very seamlessly! read more

**I work in the same building. A selection of the staff here is extremely rude. I use a handicap license plate because I'm disabled from my military service. I backed into one of 36 covered parking spaces to enjoy my lunch and at the time 23 spaces were empty. An employee came to my car window and told me I wasn't allowed to use these parking spaces as they were for staff only. When I offered to move to the handicap spots she told me I wasn't allowed to use those either. I didn't move my car from the handicap spot out of principal. I hope the patient care is better than this interaction. read more

I've had a few bad experiences here. This time they told me I didn't have a refill on a prescription that I had beem prescribed refill on but I needed them to go to a different pharmacy so I didn't have to pay for it and when I called again and again i got a voicemail and no phone call back. They told me I need to schedule another appointment at a completely different location with a completely different doctor to get the refill that I had already been prescribed. Now the weekend has rolled around when they are closed and the prescription I NEEDED by Sunday is unable to be picked up. Seems like I can never get in touch with anyone and the scheduling department has always been rude when I call or go in there and schedule any appointment. This has been my go to for a while but not sure that I'll be going back. read more

I absolutely love Michelle Szymanowski. She has been my health care provider for many years and I feel completely comfortable talking to her about any of my female problems but also I have talked to her about other matters in my life and she has always been very kind and understanding. She never rushes me when I am in the examining room and has always been very gentle when examining me. I love the staff at the Gilbert office, they are always so friendly and love to interact with me. I am not one that just checks in, I like to have a quick conversation just to be personable before I wait to be called back to the examine room. read more

I will never go back here. I received devastating news about my pregnancy and when I went to receive confirmation and advice from Dr. Julie, she barely even looked up from here laptop to look at me. She did not give me any exam or consolation or even a little sympathy. She simply point blank told me that I "shouldn't make a big deal out of it" and it was only a "mishap". She didn't have all the details about my situation and yet she didn't seem to care. Maybe she was having an off day, but I'm sorry you DO NOT treat someone going through a traumatic experience like that. She made me feel stupid and not important at all. Don't waste your time here. Everyone that works there is so kind and they are able to explain things to me in a way that doesn't make me feel like I have to google after I leave! Well let's go down the line here... You can only get an appointment with a gynocologist if you make it weeks or months in advance. For same day or same week appointments in can only be with an NP. If you need to make a same day or same week appointment you have to call the triage nurse department & leave a voicemail & wait for them to call you back. Don't ever bother calling the main line because they can't help you with anything!!!! They lack in communication IMMENSELY!!!! It should be that a patient finds medical information out either through the gynocologist personally or through the portal. Not from CVS!!! So unprofessional!!! The staff is excellent regarding working patients in and ensuring Mammogram and visits are done efficiently. I had a visit today with NP Patricia and I have never been treated so poorly as a patient. She did not agree with my current treatment from my PCP and preceded to speak poorly about her for approximately 5 minutes. She talked at me instead of to me. I came in for a pap and she decided I did not need one but did not even ask if I agreed to her not doing it. I requested one to be done and she quoted her guidelines but did not ask about my history or my concerns. I left the office in tears. She states she taught at ASU and I hope someone else teaches bedside manner as she does not listen to her patients and treats them no care about their health. They have lost a patient that was loyal for 5 year. read more

I would not recommend coming here if you are dealing with a hard pregnancy and/or suffering from severe morning sickness. The receptionist, nurses, and Phlebotomist were very kind but my issue was with my doctor. I visited this office 3 times before deciding to switch doctors it was that bad. I told Dr. Danielson was dealing with severe morning sickness and had already visited the hospital 2x during my first trimester due to being severely dehydrated and not being able to keep food or water down for days/weeks. I asked if there was any possibility I could have hyperemesis gravidarum and he told me no I "definitely" didn't and downplayed my symptoms. He even said "my wife was 9 months pregnant and throwing up in Walmart" which I thought was very inappropriate because I am not his wife and his wife is not me. I visited the emergency room a 3rd time and they told me I definitely was showing signs of HG. I ended up having to quit my job because I was so sick all day everyday and no medication could help me so I didn't appreciate him acting like it wasn't a big deal. Another thing that bothered me, was when I told him I was dealing with horrible back pain. He decided to checked my cervix without even telling me what or why he was doing and I was not prepared for him to shove his giant, fat, hand in my vagina as this is my first pregnancy and I didn't even know what checking a cervix meant. I already had my bottoms off because I had a transvaginal ultrasound right before where the woman tech explained exactly what she would be doing. The only thing he said before was "I am gonna check your cervix, you might feel pressure." After that he said "well the only thing I could do for you is prescribe more medication" despite me telling him I could not even keep medications down. At my first appointment with my new doctor she immediately asked if I wanted a referral for physical therapy. Each appointment felt super rushed and I only got about 5 minutes with the doctor a time. He would order around the female staff to do everything else. I'm glad I switched because that is not how my current doctor runs her practice. I recommend Eericca Bickley if you are looking for a doctor who will listen to your needs and do everything in her power to make you feel comfortable. I was very disappointed in the way Dr. Danielson handled things because I was recommend him by two friends. I did not feel listened to and I felt like my pain was very down played. read more

TLDR: not recommended if you have anxiety/PTSD, long wait times, urine sample in plastic drinking cup I have been a patient since 2019 and have had no issues until my most recent appointment. I have even recommended this location to my friends. When I checked in, I was asked to leave a urine sample and was handed a plastic drinking cup. Definitely odd but as a nurse in a hospital I understand that there are supply shortages due to COVID. When I used the little door to place the urine sample in the receptacle, I found two other samples, also in plastic drinking cups with urine running down the sides with little room to place my cup without touching others urine. After finally meeting with the provider and refusing a portion of my exam due to PTSD, as I had done before, I was treated rudely by the provider. When I asked that the urine sample was taken for, I was told that they just took them in case patients reported urinate symptoms because "a lot of people ask to use the bathroom then don't have any urine to give if we need it later". I did bathroom acrobatics and urine cup tetris for nothing. COVID has taken a toll on all aspects of healthcare, I understand the situation, but I will not be returning. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! After two months of going back and forth with their billing manager, I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED so awful! THEY WILL CHARGE you $$ for things not disclosed or discussed. I saw the Dr for a good 4 minutes and now I am getting screwed. FOLLOW MY ADVICE GO TO Valley Women for Women OBGYN or any others... this place is not professional and you will end up with hefty bills that are not disclosed. read more

Very professional, friendly and caring doctors and staff. I found Dr. Tamanaha on an online search after I moved to Gilbert from Tucson. What I saw that made me schedule an appointment with him were the reviews from other patients on different sites and that he has won the Patients' Choice Award in 2008-2009 and 2010. He has a great bedside manner, a sense of humor and answers any and all questions I have. Most of the time I get in to see him at my scheduled appointment time. The best part is after two pregnancy losses in Tucson, the doctor I was seeing there was telling me it all was bad luck. The first time I saw Dr. Tamanaha and he reviewed my records he knew it was not bad luck. I am now almost in my third trimester and he and his staff are taking very good care of me and our little one on board. I love that during the ultrasounds I can hand over one of their CDs and we get pictures and short video clips of our baby (which the grandparents-to-be love) in addition to the printed pictures. I highly recommend this location as well as Dr. Tamanaha to anyone looking for a new OB/GYN. read more

I honestly can't say enough nice things about this place. Dr. T, Shiela at the front office, Jacqueline Johnstone and everyone else that I've come into contact with has been so nice, literally like family. I've been going there for about four or five years now and even bring my daughter in to see the staff. I hear from my friend who nurses that they always ask how my family and I are doing. Showed up at 8:34 am for an 8:30 am appt. after trying to call to let them know I would be late because of traffic. Front desk said they just turned their phones over (I guess this means turn the phones on at the desk) so there was no one to speak with me (duh) and they would see if they could still see me. After 10 mins, she said they would see me and and then I waited. For an hour. With no definite time bc I was now going to seen whenever they had an opening. Never mind I need to see a dr for medical reasons; at 4 mins late with no way to speak with someone, I am now waiting for whoever to see me. I will never return to this location. read more
