I am completely blown away by the quality and the price of their service. I bought a used bike on…read morecraigslist two days ago. The bike's rear wheel was slightly bent. So, I decided to give this place a shot. In the process of testing the wheel, they found a problem with the chain and offered to replace it for $15. Pleasantly surprised by the price, I gladly accepted their offer. I hung around in the shop and watched them work. In the meantime, people kept dropping in with their bikes, but somehow they were able to handle it with great efficiency. After about 30 minutes, not only did they have my bike's wheel trued and chain replaced, they also made some minor tune-up, such as adjusting the brakes and checking the gears. All for the total of $35 ONLY!!! I couldn't believe it when I heard the price. I was charged twice as much at the other local bike shop, and they didn't even change anything! Now my used bike rides like new. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I will definitely return for their service and send my friends there.

The break piston was pulled in locking the hydraulic rear break out resulting in a process of pulling the bike apart to correct along with significant cable adjustments as the bike only shifted into 1/2 of its gears roughly after the service. The two stars are for the price charged for actual service sounded fair and cost $103 for the crank repair. But If I were not capable of DIY it would have cost me a lot more. My fault for overlooking the environment and shape in which the shop is kept. Will never return to shop or for service. The bike frame itself had some design/manufacturing quirks to it, and he was more than willing to help figure it out for me. He was also extremely nice to both be and my child (who was fidgety and extra energetic at times), and was determined to fix the issue. I had to bring it back again (the quick release with my bike + trailer hitch was odd) and he solved the problem immediately! He even took it for a test ride with my kid in the trailer to make sure it worked As a single parent, I am so happy to have a shop like this that is transparent and solution oriented. Nate had been researching e-bikes for awhile and found one from Detroit Bikes that he liked, so we…read moredecided to check them out while in town recently. The shop is located right downtown and is actually really cool; it's designed after a historical bike shop in Detroit. They have these tall wood and glass cases that look like something from a natural history museum, I loved them! Scott was there when we stopped in and he was super helpful and knowledgable. He showed us the different sizes of the e-bike and answered all our questions about them (and we had many). He was great to talk to because he has one of them himself, so he could give information on how he uses the bike and what it's best for. He was so kind and polite! Nate took one out for a test ride and loved it. He decided to buy one and we figured out we could take one wheel off and get it into the trunk, but we'd need to do it the following day. Scott said no problem, he'd be there to help. He got us all set with payment and gave us some more info on how the battery charges, some tips and tricks, and gave us a tire pump and the keys for the battery. The next day we showed up and Scott had the bike ready to go. He showed us how to take the wheel off and we were on our way! I was so impressed with our experience at Detroit Bikes, and huge thanks to Scott for all his help and info. I would definitely recommend Detroit Bikes to anyone looking for an e-bike or a regular bike. All their bikes are assembled in Detroit, and some of their bikes have frames that are manufactured in house at their Detroit facility - pretty cool!

I would not recommend getting even a simple bike fit here due to safety concerns…read more I paid $100 for a bike fit and trusted the technician to properly adjust my bike. During the fit, my saddle height was changed and the seatpost clamp was tightened using only a hex tool. My carbon seatpost clearly states a maximum torque of 5 Nm, but no torque wrench was used. I assumed everything had been done correctly and didn't think to double-check their work. Shortly after leaving, I was riding at about 20 mph and hit a very small bump in the road. My seatpost suddenly dropped under my weight, which completely threw me off balance and caused me to crash into the nearby grass. This could have easily resulted in a serious crash. Because the seatpost slipped, the carbon seatpost was also scraped when it slid down into the frame under my weight, which is concerning for a carbon component. To make matters worse, after spending $100 on the fit, I left without any documentation of the final measurements or where my saddle height and positions were set. I essentially walked away without knowing what my final setup was supposed to be. Overall, the experience was very disappointing. I trusted the shop to properly adjust my bike and ensure it was safe to ride. Instead, I left with a slipping seatpost, damage to my carbon seatpost, and no record of the fit measurements. For something as important as bike setup and rider safety, I expected much better.
