After waiting for almost a hour for my appointment then they wanted to do my eye test again which was done a couple of weeks ago before. After I declined to have it done I asked how long before I see the eye doctor to go over my CT head and neck scan. They said there was two other people ahead of you still. Are you kidding me! I was there back in May or so had an evaluation, spoke to the doctor about a surgery I needed on my eye, I had questions about recovery. I have a 1 year old I needed to know if I was going to be able to pick her up and some other questions I had. It was discovered for a few days I wouldn't be able to pick up my daughter for a few days. So I SPECIFICALLY asked him if I could wait until November for when my Mother in law could come out and help with the baby or if it needed to be sooner. He said I could wait. I said great! I scheduled the surgery at the front desk. Or so I thought. I call last week about some question for my surgery. Come to find out They didn't exactly schedule me for a surgery they scheduled me for a re evaluation because the evaluation needs to be within 6 months of surgery. I'm frustrated because I bought a plane ticket for my mother in law to come out and help us. Whatever nothing can be done that's their policy. Well then I found out that appointment had been CANCELED!!! The lady on the phone states that they tried calling me on September 10th, I told her I never got a call she's giving me attitude stating she called. I went onto Verizon and got my call log history guess what THEY NEVER CALLED!! I asked to speak with a manager. Fast forward to Monday. Manager calls. Nothing can be done says they tried calling me 3 separate days then cancelled my appointment. Looked at those days on my call history. nothing. How can you cancel someone's appointment without talking to them? She tried telling me I should have known it wasn't a surgery appointment because I would have had to have a surgery counseling thing, how would I know that ? I've never done this before? So much attitude from her as well. Whatever nothing can be done I scheduled an appointment for yesterday for an evaluation. Trying to talk to the doctor and figure out what is going on. I show up yesterday wait almost 40 minutes finally get taken back the lady does my exam and I'm waiting in the next room for the doctor to come in and across from me is the nurses station or whatever they are and one apparently has my chart open and reading the notes on my situation, another worker (I wish I got her name but I didn't) start reading it and with a NASTY attitude is like why does she need her mother in law for that kind of surgery?! I quickly realize they are talking bad about me RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME!!!!!!!! I finally was like THATS ME YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! And she comes into the room and starts giving me attitude about why I needed someone I explained that the doctor said I wasn't going to be able to pick up my one year-old for a couple of days and I was going to need help. And she just kept telling me that I needed a reevaluation and I wasn't getting my surgery. It's been too long and I was like that is literally what I'm here doing. I was like, but I'm upset because you guys are saying you tried calling me three times and you didn't and she was like it shows they did in your chart. Talking to me with a nasty attitude and I tell her that I got my call history from Verizon and there is NO CALLS from them from any of those dates or the following dates and she tells me that that was excessive and just has this horrible attitude. I have never been treated so poorly. I started crying and left the office before even speaking to the doctor or getting anybody's name. The customer service there is insane and I will be going out of town to Phoenix to have my surgery because I will not stand to be treated like this so now am I not only out hundreds of dollars but I'm also now having to travel to Phoenix to have a simple 15 minute surgery because of the horrible unprofessional workers at southwestern eye center. read more

I had cataract surgery on both eyes, two weeks apart, and I am happy with the results. I felt no pain during or after surgery, including no pain from I.V. needles. I had never been under anesthesia before, but everything went smoothly. My surgeon was Dr. Wallmann. He and all the staff were attentive, meticulous, and pleasant. Many thanks to everyone! After surgery, I felt mild pressure in the eye and had mild bloodshot which went away. I had occasional episodes of scratchiness, but it has mostly gone away. When they remove your eye patch, they will give the patch to you and it can be used again. You will need tape, which you can buy at the 99-cent store and at any pharmacy. You will need wrap-around sunglasses, which you can buy at Walgreen's for $14.95 to $19.95. You will need lubricant eyedrops, which you can buy in a twin-pack at Walmart for $10.83. If you need readers, you can get nice ones at Walmart for as little as $5.88 (women's). My personal advice (not intended as medical advice) -- follow the pre-op and post-op instructions, and take your meds as prescribed. Call them if you have any concerns after surgery. The visit was long. One employee to do each different test and more waiting in between. Most of their clients appear elderly, their check in process is not elder friendly. They must stand at a kiosk, With nothing to lean on, and electronically check in. This is confusing for most elderly. And it's evident! The staff at the front mostly ignore the elder with check in unless the elder person walks up to one of them for help. Then they'll just answer that one question. It's difficult for most of elderly, I observed on my several visits there. The front desk staff seem to chit chat an awful lot, about non work related things, ignoring those needing help. Whenever they can. The check out window is very slow. I felt as though the girl at the computer was purposely going slow as to not help an elder check out. Making them stand and wait longer. I'm infuriated at how the elderly are treated in the front office. They don't care and it shows. There was one staff member in the back coughing a lot and blowing her nose. She had no mask on. In fact, the only person who wore a mask was the doctor. I thank him for that. One staff member tried to get me to take my mask off for an absolutely ridiculous reason. She seemed offended when I told her no. What are you guys doing??? This is health care! Take care of your patients by protecting them! We were able to proceed just fine with my mask on. That office would run much differently if I was in charge. read more

Worst business in Yuma. Staff can't schedule appointment times correctly and Dr. Donaldson is the WORST communicator. Gave commands to me in Spanish even after I told him I don't speak Spanish. He clearly had never even looked at my patient file. Complete incompetency throughout the center. I had an appointment for testing only. I was asked to wait in my car and they would call me, which I think was great due to Covid-19. After 45 minutes later I went to ask and was told they were cleaning the area and would take 10 minutes, after 35 minutes I asked again and had to wait still. When they took in both testing areas were being used! But wait...I thought they were waiting for the 10 minutes to dry! So of course more waiting! Something always happens, they tell me I don't have an appointment scheduled or that they don't have the referral! I called Southwestern Eye Center at 12 PM on July 10th. I was immediately asked to be placed on hold. I was interested in potentially scheduling a new appointment as a new patient. - After 30 minutes of being on hold I was finally tended to. When I asked the staff member if it was a common practice that this company puts potentially new clients on hold for 30 minutes with no service I was informed people were "on lunch." At no time prior to me being placed on hold was I informed about a lack of availability to office staff due to lunch, nor is there any indication anywhere that staff have a lunch hour where they do not take calls or handle business. This was unsatisfactory for me. - This lack of professionalism and proper customer service have led me to choose an entirely separate business, and I recommend you do the same. read more

I had my one eye done here in May. I now believe I did not do enough research, my bad. I'm not going back there. After asking about my options I pretty much got told that they don't do Lazer surgery and went on to say nothing good about it. The day of surgery I was given an IV. He jammed it in my arm and when I yelped the male nurse said sorry, I didn't realize it was under the surface. Then I felt like a cattle call being probed along. I felt very unstable after and barely made it out to my friends car. It was difficult getting in house and my neighbor stayed with me until I napped and finally felt better. My eye was blood shot and black and blue. I expected some but not to this extent. I had a retina bleed 2 yrs ago and it was a big concern to me. The doctor brushed it off as no big deal. He couldn't see anything. From the blood I have a grey like hood I see through. Quite distressing to be brushed off. I went back to my primary and complained. He said he has heard this before. I made an appointment at Aiello eye Institute today. What a difference in care. I'm sticking with this office. I was told cataract surgery, although could be done was not really necessary at this time. I could go another 6 months to a year and have it checked. Dr. A. said surgery wouldn't make a big difference but he would do it if I wanted. I decided to wait. So ill go back for eye exam for new glasses instead. I now feel Southwest eye center will do surgery and rush a patient through for the insurance. Plus the lady who scheduled the appointment wanted me to purchase a blue bag with eye drops tape and 2 plastic shields to cover my eye while sleeping. 40.00 cash up front, insurance didn't cover it. After my surgery the assistant who took my bandage off gave me the plastic shield to use at night. So this made me pretty confused. I'm 70 and in pretty good health. read more

It was pretty easy getting in and I was done in about 45 minutes. The new procedure for checking in was pretty good. I was apprehensive at first, but it only took one minute to check in. My Elderly Mother had a 1:30 appt yesterday, we arrived at 1:15, she was called back at 1:48, mind you I specifically asked if they were running on time, the receptionist told me she hadn't heard otherwise. As I waited and waited, my Stepdad called me at 2.50 to say my Mom was still waiting to be seen! She is not savvy on the phone and doesn't have my number in her flip phone so she called him extremely upset. I went up to reception and asked why she was still not seen! She said, oh looks like the Dr is with her now...at 3 friggin o clock! She was out within 10 minutes ! Some excuse that he had back to back surgeries all day! AND her eyes were dilated with no PROTECTIVE SUNGLASSES!!! Today, her eyes are very painful and red. What a poor excuse of a Medical Facility ! I had my 2nd visit last week. It was a whole different experience. The technicians don't follow the same process each time. Different thing every time. Most Dr offices they update your meds, take your vision, and if you have contacts in they help take them out so the Dr can examine you. Not here. This gets worse. I was moved to another room and the Dr came in and immediately grabbed the drops so he could take my eye pressure. I stopped him and he had no supplies for me to use for my contacts. I had a case just because. I asked him for solution he rooted in the desk drawer and came out with a bottle. He's the Dr he should know what solution to use for soft contacts. Well he doesn't. The next day when I put my contacts in my eyes were burned severely by what ever the solution was. I have been going back every day so the cornea specialist can monitor me and make sure my eyes are healing. I hope to have an influence on this clinic to put policy in place to work with patients that wear contacts. read more

I recently had to take my Dad to Southwestern eye center for some minor eye surgeries. They were on time getting him back to see the doctor then had him out a few minutes early! The staff kept me updated on his progress (as in time when he would be finished) All was great! And on his follow up appointment to recheck his eyes, we were in and out! Very professional and kind staff! He was given proper care and information (handouts) if he had any problems come up. I would recommend this eye center to everyone I know! There has been an incredible negative change in this clinic in the past year. My recent visit found all of the support staff rude, impolite and just not caring. My doctor was the same as usual. The woman who escorted me into the exam room was belligerent and down right nasty. My doctor is the best in the nation, but I will be evaluating if I will return to the clinic since I have to travel quite a distance. It's just not worth the abuse I received on this last visit. read more

We were very concerned when my husbands eyesight changed dramatically one morning. We looked up emergency eye care and this was where they sent us. We don't live here and don't even winter here! They gave us a 2:30 appt and explained we might have to wait awhile so they could work us in. We were back in the car at 3:30 having had a complete eye exam and assured we were knowledgeable enough to know if the situation had worsen. It is such a shame that Southwestern Eye Center seems to be understaffed and not adept at handling different insurance companies. This is why many people have to leave Yuma for better health care. After making an appointment two weeks prior I was told the day before my appointment that I may not be seen if my insurance does not give prior approval. What!!! I was rfeferred to Southwestern Eye Center from the ER to be seen within three days, so I called and made an appointment. I then checked with my insurance to see if they would cover it, gave them my appt timeanddate. My insurance returned a call to me stating they had checked with SEC and was told I did not have an appointment. I called SEC and they confirmed that I did not have an appointment although I stated when I called orignally and what time and date was given. Per the receptionist, "there was nothing she could do" except make an appointment for the fpllowing week. When I was called in for my appointment, I did not see the doctor I was scheduled with. After the visit I made a checkback appt for three weeks out. I was called three days before that appt.and asked if II wanted to reschedule. The receptionist said I was not on their schedule for anappointment.....then stated "Oops, I was looking at the wrong day". She did find my appt but I was scheduled with another doctor for the checkback. I asked why. She read the notes and stated that I should have been scheduled with the doctor I had seen. When she wanted to reschedule my appt., I told her to forget it....I will see someone when I get back to WA. Reception staff seems to have their head somewhere besides on their job!!! read more
