The Nursery by Southwinds is a very gorgeous location! They have speakers throughout the place so there is music is playing. As for plants, this location is definitely more outdoor based plants. Once you park there is a small shop that has a couple indoor plants. A friend recommended this nursery and I'm so glad we came! It seemed at every turn there was more and more plants or trees and flowers to explore. Such a wide variety of plants that have become popular on social media over quarantine as well as plenty of landscaping plants/supplies. Everything is organized or grouped together so it is easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. Everyone we encountered was super helpful and willing to help in anyway. There are large carts that you can use to load up your plants and push around so you don't have to carry them. I wish there was more pots in stock but that's OK I'll just have to come back. They even sell extra black planter containers for a discounted price. The green houses were super beautiful and we enjoyed looking at all the plants!! read more

This place is hardly a local nursery. I wondered around the location for 45 minutes. Not once did I find a sales associate or anybody that worked there actually. I was quite puzzled on how they called themselves a nursery. No visible employees, no cash registers, no variety. What I did find was BEAUTIFUL landscaping and communal areas that resembled a very serene botanical garden! Perfect for events! They did have larger ceramic and terra cotta pots available for sale and larger potted plants lined along the pathways for sale (not that there was anyone there to sell them). However, these seemed to be the same plants commonly used along the roads and throughout the communities of Irvine. I began to believe that this "nursery" is owned by Irvine Company as storage for their landscaping projects. If they are not owned by Irvine Company, then I assume that they focus mainly on acquiring business contracts with Irvine since they are obviously not retail-customer focused. Beautiful, but puzzling place. The two stars are for advertising as a nursery when, quite frankly, they are not. Definitely NOT a place to go if you're looking for houseplants or something unique for the garden. If I had a small event, or maybe even a wedding, I would go here though. I think that reclassifying the business as a botanical garden would be much better marketing in the categories they seem to be focused on. read more

Located off the 5 free way near sand canyon off ramp im irvine, Ca I had the opportunity to attend a charity event here. Sponsored Modern Luxury Magazine and benefitting the the John Wayne Cancer Foundation the Live and Dine event did not dissapoint. Presale tickets were $50 prior to the event and $60'at the day of the event. My bestie and member of Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce had gone for her bday to a similar event in LA and thought this would be awsome to attend for mine. She was right! We came early before the 6pm-8:30pm event. We actuallt arrived at 5:30pm and was greeted with valet parking attendants. Luckily we decided to wear flats prior to leaving the house as wearing heels would have been difficult to navigate the grounds with their landscape. Good call! There were over 40 vendors from all over Southern California and OC serving bites and adult strong liquid libations! We checked in and recieved blue pebbles ( one each) to be given to the vendor that we loved the most in jars that were at each station. Because we came early vendors were still setting up and preparing for the 6:00pm start time. This gave us time to do some serious recon to navigate which stations we wanted to try and enjoy the scenery while it was still light. Some notable vendors were Nobu, Hendrix Resturant ( Dana Point) , Angelina Pizza, Honest Drinks, Flowers by penelope pots, ", A " Resturant and Market ( Newport Beach, Ca), Silver trumpet Resturant and Bar, Aveo Table & Bar at Monarch Beach Resort, Puesto, Oak Resturant ( Laguna Beach), Pelican hill resort, Red O resturant ( congrats to them for Winning the chefs challenge) , Habana, and Fashion Island Hotel to name a few. The music was pumping, the food and drinks were flowing throughout the sea of dressed up people packed with Berkins, Red bottoms, and enough plastic surgery to make it a convention in itself. It was fun. My favorite highlights: Hendrix served An amazing dish that consisted of short rib on a bed of greens, with a beautiful vinegarette dressing and topped with a quail egg. ( that was in my top contender for the favorite dish), sliver trumpet served a fresh seared giant scallop on top of a green bean dressing with walnuts and aioli sauce ( that got my blue vote) it was delicious. Nobu had a short rib dish with tiny carrot and turnip that was also tender and good, but Hendrix won the short rib dish for the night. A catering company out of Long beach served a great slider dish if im not mistaken and that was also the top contender with grilled mushrooms and onions. Over all , each resturant did not dissapoint and the drinks were all pretty strong and good. My favorite was the aprocot margarita at Red O Resturant that was serving along side their duck blue corn taco. Congrats to Red O for winning the Chefs Challenge. My bestie voted for them, well done! I was lucky enough to have my wedding at this venue a few weeks before it got shut down by the city from holding future events. (so sorry to those who had to relocate to another venue! ) This review is for the venue itself. My ideal wedding was to be surrounded by trees and flowers. This venue was my dream setting for the big day. Our reception was inside the greenhouse (probably the only wedding held there since it was newly built at the time). The lighting, floral arrangements and ambiance were so romantic and gorgeous! (Special thanks to The Eventloft). It exceeded my expectations. Our guests loved the venue and some even claimed that it was the best venue they've been to. If it ever opens up again, you should definitely book this venue! Maybe 2020 or 2021?? The Nursery By Southwinds is a hidden gem located in Orange County. This place is perfect for a wedding (a large wedding for that matter), a baby shower, corporate event, engagement party, bridal shower, the list goes on and on! This venue also offers multiple locations to host an event. My favorite spot at this venue was the greenhouse, especially if you're planning an event in a colder month! Most gorgeous nursery I've ever been to. It's a nice place to visit just for the scenery! An older gentleman who said he was the manager helped me out and was very informative. He had all the questions to my answers, helped carry everything out and even said he offers the service of potting my plants for me if I bring the pots (not sure what the fee is). I got lots of ideas and inspiration from just walking through the place. Highly recommend. Oh and they have beautiful pots here too! read more

I have lived in this area for over 3 years now and drove by this street like everyday but it took me this long to drive into this quaint parking lot to check them out. You wouldn't expect something this cute and quaint and calm serene landscaped garden utopia could exist right next to a 5 and 133 fwy but that's exactly what it was. Once you go in it's a world on its own. Path ways leading up to various garden lounges with varied themes. They had a full model room with greenery and plants cape that was inspiration over load. The teak bead lounge chairs and hammocks are screaming at you to take a break. And the most handsome Buddha sculptures in one of the areas too. I want to pick up some sandwiches and come picnic here one day. Randy who runs this shop is on top of things and as hospitable and inviting as he could be. I ended Up buying a modern planter that was similar to the one way over priced at west elm here. Speaks to the bargain and approachable price. I'll be back to take several breaks here. read more

We had a product launch event at the Nursery by Southwinds in their greenhouse/hanger area. The grounds itself is gorgeous and what really drew us to book was the uniqueness of the venue. We were looking for something different and we found it at The Nursery. The process was very easy, Robin helped us and was there every step of the way. She referred vendors that were top notch and so easy to work with. The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful on the day of our event. A perfect little hidden gem, it has that rustic/garden feel without having to travel too far out of the heart of OC. My husband and I hosted our baby shower here recently and it was the best day. From the time of booking through to the end of the event the staff were so helpful and made our planning seamless. We first booked a tour with Robin who carefully explained the areas we could choose from and all that was included with the rental. We fell in love with the location and all is natural greenery, perfect for our Peter Rabbit theme! THIS IS THE LAST PLACE YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED! My fiancé and I were looking for a venue for our Summer 2019 wedding. My mom personally met with the Venue Assistant, Danielle Bader, to take a look at the property. Danielle was very pleasant and gave a tour of the venue and answered questions. Later my fiancé and I went to walk around the venue and liked what we saw. We set up a meeting with the Venue Manager, Robin Ballard, to clarify pricing and details. We were given a packet that breaks down what each of their lawns/spaces cost to rent. In the packet it stated that to rent out the Upper Lawn and Back Garden was $4,000. Greenhouse is $5,000. Upper Lawn/Back Garden and Greenhouse Combo is $8,000. We were interested in renting the Upper Lawn and Back Garden without using the Greenhouse. When we met with Robin, she told us we needed to rent out a whole side of their nursery because it was a wedding which would add on an extra $4,000 cost to rent the venue. Nowhere in the packet does it state this. THE PRICING JUST NOW DOUBLED! She indicated that to add on an extra hour to rent the venue would be an additional $1,000. If we wanted to get in early to the Bridal Suite, it would be an additional $1,000. If they needed to close the retail side of the nursery early it would be an additional $1,500. There are also restrictions to only use their caterers or DJ's. She was very rude and did not listen to us. She told my fiancé and me that "Maybe this was not the venue for you!" She said that three times. I was on the verge of tears because of this lady. Her attitude was so harsh that my fiancé and I were turned off and would not want to deal with her as a wedding coordinator. Even if they were willing to rent the Upper Lawn and Back Garden for the $4,000 as stated in their packet, we would not use this place because of the Venue Manager's sour disposition. My mom spoke to Robin on the phone two days after our meeting to discuss what transpired at the meeting. My mom apologized if we did anything to offend her because we felt her attitude was less than pleasant. Robin told her she felt challenged and that's why she was being rude. Robin, as the Venue Manager, should be capable of answering questions for brides and grooms and their families. She should be open and willing to at least listen to people's wishes and concerns. My mom spoke to Christine from the Nursery to express concerns about the lack of Customer Service provided by this venue. Later she called Frank Berry, the Owner of the Nursery by Southwinds, to provide feedback on how we were treated by his Venue Manager. Mr. Berry never bothered to return the phone call. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE GETTING MARRIED! read more

They are extremely accommodating and easy to work with. I have personally known Robin, the venue manager, for years within in the industry she has always exemplified true professionalism and attention to detail. I feel so secure and relaxed with Robin on site because I know nothing will get overlooked and everything will be set up on time and just as we described. This venue is one of the best kept secrets in Orange County! This is one of the most talked about venues in 2019, and for good reason! It's a truly unique venue. As a caterer, I love working with venues such as the Nursery that are accommodating not only to guests, but to vendors as well! Very few venues have the ability to create internally, and the Southwind's Team has turned the venue into a completely functioning event space with some pretty cool items included in the overall venue fee (plants, pots etc you see around property, plus built in concrete bars, tables, benches, couches & even A/V near the Water Wall)! I was booked at the Nursery for my wedding this July and was notified by my wedding planner that the Nursery is no longer able to hold events at their location. The City of Irvine had shut them down. The Nursery has not taken any responsibility for misguided me and so many brides into booking their weddings there. After reaching out to the city, we find out that the Nursery doesn't even have the right to host events and that the land is owned by The City of Irvine. After further investigation, we found out that the nursery only has a month to month lease in place and could be put on notice at any time. I am having to move my entire wedding and the nursery has not made any effort to reimburse my family for all expense associated with that move. I have found out from other brides that the same has happened to them. I am so grateful that our wedding planner can cover some of these costs for us, but we will be seeking a full reimbursement of ALL expenses associated with the move that are well over $15,000.00 at this point. I am posting this so other brides know what this place is really about, and hopefully this doesn't happen to them. This was truly a nightmare! read more

I went Sept of 2019. This nursery is beautiful. The grounds, the plants, the lighting and the art take you to another place. This place would be amazing as a venue. The grounds keeper was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We were lucky to be there when Daniel brought in one of his sculptures. It made for a very memorable day. I will def be back. read more

Wow! What can I say about this venue and the amazing folks that assisted me in making for one kick ass corporate Holiday Party. It is a beautiful, clean, and vibrant venue in the day time but it still keeps all it's charm in the evening with all the lights and plenty of space to explore (fire pit, lounge areas, succulent walls, water wall). So originally we were supposed to be on the grass but with recent rains we didn't want to chance it with muddy grass and so we moved it inside - keep in mind I had never seen the greenhouse set up for an event as they had just finished it in recent weeks. With that said, all four lovely ladies that I met throughout the process were so accommodating and professional (Adrienne, Liz, Adina, & Jen). Elizabeth and Jen were rockstars the week leading up to our event and even BETTER on the day of the event. I am a bit of a stress case when it comes to my events - wanting everything to be as perfect as can be and they put up with all my nervous tension like straight bosses. The truth is there was only one hiccup and that was my bad, shocker. They were on top of all emails, calls, last minute requests, and a little bossiness from this gal on the day of - they even let us keep our signature drink out longer than our contract allotted for, helped clear plates, guided people in the right direction - they did it all. I had the privilege of my friends hosting my baby shower here. They surprised me with photos by photographer, Allison, who shoots there on the regular. What a gorgeous and diverse setting for the photos. So many beautiful nooks and pathways, all so ethereal and green. The baby shower was in the Greenhouse and it was perfect! Bright and green and totally transformative into the most dreamy shower I could ever imagine!! The greenhouse would be an incredible location for birthday or engagement party or a wedding.
