My friend and I visited the Spa at Ballantyne on a Friday evening for massages. Overall, we had a good experience. The staff were kind and helpful and both the spa and waiting areas were tidy. This spa boasts a lot of amenities (indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, etc) that are able to be used during your visit. Our massages were later in the evening (6 pm) so a lot of snacks and beverages were already put away for the day once we finished our massages. Overall, my mom and I did not have a relaxing experience at the Ballantyne Spa after years of looking forward to trying it (hence the robust review). The events leading up to our appointments caused more stress than zen, and the experience itself was mediocre at best. For Christmas this year, I purchased my mom a massage service and myself one at the same time to go together. She doesn't get to relax often, and I knew she wouldn't want to go alone. I found 2 appointments at the same time when I was in town, booked, received confirmation, all is good. I gave her the gift & she was excited, even getting us matching PJs to wear in the day of. We continued to receive confirmation emails and appointment reminders. The day before our appointments (which were at 8 AM, arrive at 7:30, which was also confusing because they spa said they open at 8?), we received a call at 11 AM that there was a glitch on their end, and they could not accommodate us as there were no other appointments at the same time that entire week. I called back, left a message explaining the situation and asked if there is anything we could do, and waited. 2 PM rolls around and we have heard nothing, and finally I have my mom try and call since my calls were not being answered. They answer and said the manager was working on a solution and would call back, but likely would not be able to find someone. 4 PM rolls around and we have not heard back. At the same time, we were receiving confirmations of our original appointments, forms to fill out, etc. Finally, that evening they let us know they would be able to accommodate us for our original appointments, which felt great after everything. We asked if there was anything they could do for the hassle and the manager offered 15% off our services. We went to fill out the forms so the next day would be hassle-free and, of course, none of the 8 links they sent us throughout the day worked. After the difficult and last minute issues, we were ready for a relaxing time. The next day, upon check in, we were asked to pay the full amount with no mention of a discount or apology for the difficulties we experienced. She told us to come back after our services to talk to the manager. We made the most of the rest of our time, but overall had issues with the spa itself, outside of booking issues, that led to a two-star review: - The spa promotes they are 'technology free,' even declaring outside of the waiting/relaxation room door that cell phones are prohibited, yet every single person in the wait room was on their phone (at least 10-15 people). We put our phones away prior to entering to follow the policy/enjoy a tech-free zone at a spa, and it was not relaxing walking into a room of everyone glued to their screen. Might as well not promote this if you do not enforce it. - The waiting/relaxation room is supposed to be a quiet place to relax with beverages and snacks pre or post service, but most the snacks were empty, the water for the tea was cold, and the constant shuffling of people coming in and out for their appointments was disturbing. The room was packed. - Half the clients were given a beverage post-service, and half were not it seemed. One client was told she could not get served champagne before 10 AM, yet multiple people were sipping on a glass. I had to spend about 10 minutes tracking someone down to even receive mine that comes with the service - They promote the pool as part of the spa, but when we went to go to the indoor pool it was filled with screaming kids so we opted out of that amenity. I understand its apart of the hotel, but then it shouldn't be promoted as a 'resort-style pool' with 'therapeutic whirlpools' as a spa amenity. - The locker room attendant was very difficult to find, with multiple clients walking around confused looking for assistance and talking to each other to get around. The tour at the beginning was not good/the attendant seemed confused. I probably would have given this a one star on the standards of how a 'luxury' spa should be, however both the massage services were good, and they did end up being able to accommodate us in the end. The whole experience, however, was disorganized, stressful, and not at all what we were expecting. Being a spa that requires their customers to give a 24-hour cancellation notice, it was disappointing that they were unable to do the same for their clients. The appointments were booked weeks prior where the glitch should have been caught. Overall, the booking experience put us off on the wrong foot, and the spa experience itself didn't make up for it. Definitely a bummer! TLDR: Stressful booking experience with hardly any accountability or regard from the spa, promotes to be tech-free and is not, feels like an in and out service vs. luxury spa experience, lack of staff/multiple confused guests, relaxation room not up to par and very busy, noisy pool with kids even though promoted as a spa amenity read more

I had an absolutely wonderful day at The Ballantyne! I had a prenatal massage with Devin at 1pm (incredible - she was so personable and gave a great massage!), and all the spa staff truly couldn't have been kinder. I loved having access to all the facilities from 8am-8pm - the relaxation room was a personal favorite! The indoor pool and hot tubs were wonderful (the pool was definitely popular with some energetic kiddos a few times throughout the day, but I know that is to be expected at a large hotel), and the gym was well equipped. I loved being able to walk across the bridge to grab food at The Bowl (the spa menu was a bit overpriced in my opinion). My only other piece of constructive feedback would be to add lounge chairs to the outdoor area by the pool (the actual outdoor pool with them doesn't open until April, so the only ones outside were iron ones). read more

Had a great experience! We were able to easily call to make an appointment the day before, but you can also make an appointment online. There's a big parking and they validate parking. When you spend more than $130, you can enjoy the amenities all day, they are open 8am- 8pm. There are 2 locker rooms, each locker room contains a sauna, and one of the locker rooms contains a steam room. You can also use the fitness center, the indoor pool and 2 jacuzzis. There are also showers, lockers that easily lock, and plenty of space/mirrors to get dressed with hair dryers. You get a robe and slip ons to wear. The saunas were comfy and a perfect temperature! Only thing it was missing was music in the sauna. The steam room was very steamy-too steamy!! It was eucalyptus, and it hit you in the face. I didn't last more than a minute in there. The pool was very nice and had windows overlooking The Bowl. The jacuzzis looked nice but we didn't get in. There were plenty of people but it wasn't too packed and we got to do everything we wanted. The hallways were dimly lit, nicely decorated and had soft spa music playing- very nice! It was very well staffed, I constantly saw employees walking around and they were all very friendly. And the staff member we signed in with showed us around- you get a key card to use the amenities. They offer mocktails, sodas, wine and champagne. They are in plastic glasses but understandable since there's a pool. There were also nuts/trail mix as a snack! I didn't see a place to order food, I guess you have to go to the hotel lobby. I got the hydrafacial with Olga. She was so kind and SO knowledgeable! She explained what she was doing and it was so refreshing. I could tell it really improved my skin. The facial room was very relaxing and the bed was comfy. It included a shoulder massage and ended with a warm, wet towel under my neck. The facial was the cheapest available and it was $200 for 25 minutes. Only things I didn't like- the spa needs a bit of a facelift and paint touch ups throughout. This is a tough one for me because I had such high hopes! Bottom line- this place is far too expensive for the cons. You'd be better off getting a massage at nearby local spas or perhaps a resort. The spa itself is in desperate need for a makeover/update. The locker rooms were extremely disappointing. Hand towels were missing, toiletries weren't replaced, toilet paper on the ground, dirty cups/dishes covering the vanity, and towel bins overflowing. Mind you I was there around noon so the spa had only been open just a few hours. The service was okay. Nothing that I couldn't receive at a local massage chain. The gift shop was literally empty. Expired lotions and some random dusty inventory. Food options are a zero. Expensive and you have to order from this hot musty weird lounge area that's not at all set up like a relaxing place to eat. I found the available amenities to be plentiful and very nice , like the eucalyptus steam room , sauna and very clean locker rooms . The lounges are NOT co-ed . At the time of our visit in June 2023 , the pool area was closed . Our only option was to go upstairs and sit in the food serving area to enjoy our mimosas together . While it didn't kill our vibe , it certainly was not the luxury experience together as we had envisioned . The food serving area seems very disconnected from the spa and nothing about it conveys relaxation or luxury spa vibes . Because of this , we would likely not book this spa again . We would so love if the spa would open a co-ed lounge and not rely on the pool area to serve as the only co-ed space . They've got a nice quiet area to chill, plus a pool, 2 hot tubs, and a sauna + steam room in the locker area. My facial was A-mazinggg! so soothing and left my skin glowing. But it is def on the pricey side and I think the space could use a few updates. The lunch by the pool was just okay, not bad but not great either. Also heads up!!! they add a 24% tip automatically at the pool, which they don't really tell you about. I recently went to the Spa at Ballantyne. I paid for a full facial ($185) -- 50 minutes and I added on dermaflash (additional 60 dollars). The spa added zero time to my appointment and just pushed my 60 dollar service into my 50 minute facial. From what I read going in dermaflash is a 15 minute service - so 30% of my appointment time was lost. The front of house staff has no business working in a spa environment. We got there 30 minutes early and it took her over 15 minutes to check us in. She also had no understanding of how the service fee works and completely misguided me. I would never suggest anyone a giftcard here -- as they hack money off your giftcard every month you don't use it. My first spa day in over 5 years (I have two young kids) and it was a horrendous experience. I'll never go back -- and would suggest others avoid. read more

First things to know - when you book a service, such as a massage or nail treatment, you receive full-day access to the facilities including indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, and lounge. Robe and slippers are provided for the duration of the experience, and the facilities are equipped with a locker room & showers. A complimentary drink is also included, which was a lovely touch! The atmosphere is very serene in the spa facility, and I appreciated the commitment to detail and comfort that was shown as we were given a tour. We booked the 50 min calming waters massage for our service, and I had Marie who did a fantastic job! Only a couple downsides from our time: our party of three didn't have any options to have our massages together, and were split up into individual rooms. I do think that the experience was a bit pricey in terms of value, however I would recommend this location for a special occasion splurge and would suggest making a full day out of it to enjoy the facilities! read more

For the price, I didn't think the spa experience was worth it. My friend and I went for prenatal massages and got there a couple hours before hand to enjoy the amenities. The staff greeted us in a friendly manner and showed us to our lockers. We were extremely disappointed in the cleanliness of the facilities. There were dirty towels and cups laying in the changing area, no towels to dry hands in the bathroom, toilet paper rolls not on the holders and resting on top, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper, trash over flowing in the lounge and dirty cups dispersed throughout. The lounge area itself was decent. They had three different snack options, water and tea. I wish they would have had loungers or something other than chairs or ottomans. I made an appointment for my sister and I to get massages. We also booked an additional facial for each of us and we were told that we could not get the facial right after the massage because there was no availability. As we were staying at the hotel, we said that's fine and booked two separate facials one for 5 o'clock and one for 6 o'clock after our 1 o'clock massage. At 5 o'clock we went to the spa for the facials and were told that we did not book reservations. This is after we spoke at 1 o'clock at the spa to multiple representatives asking them if they have a sooner cancellation to call us. From a call over the phone to greeting you upon arrival, you never have to ask for anything here. It's as if they anticipate your needs. The atmosphere is super calm and relaxing. This spa has gone so far downhill. I came in for the bee pampered mani/pedi, the price of which met the minimum for access to spa facilities. I just wanted to have a nice, relaxing afternoon after a long week at work / wedding planning. First, I was told that my services did not meet the minimum for access to the facilities. After I corrected the front desk, I had to explain that usually someone gives you a tour, robe, locker, etc. I had to ask three different times and was told "no one is stopping you from going down to the locker room...I just don't have a pool key for you." It was honestly such a tough start that I wanted to ask for my money back. This is the first time that I have ever written a review. I usually go to Rock Barn, but I decided to try the Spa at Ballantyne for my birthday this year. I'm glad I did! I had an 80-minute massage with Marie Over, and it was wonderful. She was very sweet and attentive (I may have slept through half of it, but that's how relaxed I was). After my massage, I spent a few hours reading by the pool. The only downside is that the pool and Jacuzzis are open to hotel guests, so there were kids playing while I tried to relax. I also spent some time in the sauna and finished my day with a refreshing shower. There are some very talented masseuses, but I'm not wowed by the facility. They offer one lounge space, very outdated water areas, and if you eat lunch there, they shuffle you to a room upstairs and in the middle of nowhere. They raised prices and it doesn't equate to what you are getting. They add in a 20% tip on top of the raised spa price, and they keep 5% of it for the resort, shorting the masseuse 5%. So you pay $60 extra for a massage and an added tip at the end, and the facility has gotten worse. This spa needs a major overhaul. read more

The entrance of the hotel has a nice fragrance & it was easy to get to the spa.The staff was very welcoming, attentive, and extremely polite. I love the lounging area where they have fresh snacks & water, blankets if you are cold, and it's very calming. I even love how in the bathroom they have many items you may need such as hair ties & combs. And if you don't see it ask because they may have it. The drinks at the pool were DELISH! Yesterday, we visited the Spa at Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC. Prior to our visit, I called and scheduled a couples massage. The massage description on your website says "couples massage." By definition, a couple, is two people. Therefore, I thought when I booked the couples massage that it was, indeed, for two people. Unfortunately, I was misguided by your website where it says $130 for a couples massage...when in fact, it's $140 per person. I complained to Ian who did nothing but apologize. I feel that Ballantyne needs to do something to make this right with us and prevent it from happening to the next person. Update: they have now offered to refund me for the extra charges. Had an amazing time today! My husband surprised me with a prenatal massage and pedicure. The spa is lovely. I was greeted by everyone who was quite friendly. After checking in, I was taken downstairs to the massage area where there were locker rooms. Offered spa sandals and a robe to change into. Then I went to my massage with Sharon. With 18 treatment rooms, you have a better chance to book treatments with multiple friends or family members. I would recommend that you book your spa treatments at the time you book your room, if you are staying on property. This will ensure you get optimal treatment times as they stay busy here. I can enthusiastically recommended Keisha for massage. She has been here eight years and has incredible touch. She is very professional and I have an excellent service. I received a 50 minute relaxation massage. My only regret is that I didn't book ahead of time or I would have booked a 80 minute treatment or two treatments back to back. The staff encourages the use of the spa in such a pleasant manor one cannot resist indulging. Bucky! Bucky! Bucky! This masseuse exudes professionalism, respect, and attention to detail. His communication skills step ahead of the client in an exceedingly comfortable fashion which opens the door for the client to feel at ease in expressing needs/wants, or even to inquire of other items needing attention. The Warming River Rock Massage is by far the best, hot-stone message I have had. And Bucky performed an amazing massage on my weary and tired muscles. {Visited 12/6/2018} I had the most wonderful spa day before starting my new job. I generously spoiled myself and planned my spa day two weeks prior to my visit. I contacted the spa receptionist and she was so kind to help me with my booking. Locker Room Tour When I arrived at the spa receptionist immediately greeted me and checked me in for the day. He provided me with my key pass and asked me to proceed down the stairs where I will be greeted by the spa room assistant. She gave me a complete tour of the spa and the menu which had food and beverages. Complimentary champagne was available as well so I started with that. Workout Room I planned to start my day with a workout, so I headed to the gym. It took a few to become familiar with the gym. I will say I didn't receive much help in this area, but the two trainers that were in there had clients so that was understandable. They did, however, speak with after my workout. The facility was really nice, open space, clean, lots of options, a few older weights which I didn't expect for the Ballantyne Hotel. Pool Area After my workout, I went back to the ladies locker room to change into my swim gear. The indoor pool was nice, cold, but nice so I went with the jacuzzi and relaxed there quietly. They have a really large indoor pool, two resistant pools, and a jacuzzi. I would love to come back in the summertime to really enjoy the outdoor pool and the cabanas! Ladies Lounge Leaving the pool, I had lunch scheduled for 1:00 pm so I showered and had some lounge time before the spa assistant came to get me for lunch. The lounge area is nice but can fill very small when its full. Lots of ladies were waiting on their requested service. I thought there would be more lounge areas here but they have only on comfortable lounge area which is this room. I'm not sure how it works if you come with a spouse, if there's a separate lounge area or if you and your spouse are separated until its time for your services. Spa Dining Lunch I order the turkey wrap and chips for lunch with a coke. The Ballantyne staff really adheres to the schedule that you request for your day. I requested my lunch for 1:00 pm and I was seated with my lunch in front of me by 1:04 pm, and that's because we walked from the lounge area to the dining area. I really appreciated this, so I took my time and journaled. Massage 2:00 pm I was taken back to my massage therapist and she was very nice. Instructed me on the process and verified my service with her. She asked if I had any areas that I needed her to focus on. After sharing she asked if I would prefer a deep tissue massage, I was hesitant at first but said sure. Then she said, it won't be an additional charge you are starting a new job and this is my gift to you. So very nice, and gave her a generous tip because she didn't have to do that but I was very appreciative that she cared. Salon By 3:00 pm I was escorted to the upstairs area for my pedicure which overlooked the Ballantyne Golf Course. It was a cold gloomy day, but it made for a VERY relaxing spa day. I laid my chair, turned on the little massager and fell asleep. I told the nail lady that it was a HIGH chance I would fall asleep and if it was ok, she said yes lol. Closing Time 4:00pm I was heading back to the lounge to journal, at this time everyone had left for the day and I seriously had the spa to myself! SO take note if you want the spa to yourself go AFTER 3:00 pm no ones there, and the spa closes at 8:00 pm so you'll have 5 hours to yourself. This was a much needed spa day with my girlfriends. It was nice and quiet. After checking in we were given a quick tour. They are private lockers for your belongings where a luscious robe awaits you. You're also given sandals to wear while you walk around. You have access to the indoor pool of your service is over a certain amount. The girl was so sweet it was so cold in the rooms that she took care of me but I wouldn't say the massage was the best Went to the pool and main pool closed, 3 chairs to lay on w a view of construction and if I went outside it was dudes staring at me. Hot tub was cold and no clue where you order food not a person in sight. Forgot to mention it was so cold in the waiting area and the rooms! I had Michelle for a wonderful facial using Phytomer. Lovely and relaxing. Scalp massage, facial massage, foot massage and beautiful feeling skin after it all. I felt lovely and pampered and i appreciated Michelle's demeanor, friendliness and willingness to let me float away in silence. The Spa at Ballantyne Hotel is a full-service day spa that offers massages, facials, body wraps, mani & pedis. They also have a hair salon, fitness center, as well as indoor & outdoor pools. It definitely reminds me of some great destination spas that I have visited while on business trips in Scottsdale AZ. Sadly, I have only had a mini back massage so far, but the Massage Therapist (Natalie) was AWESOME! She did an excellent job in a really short amount of time! Overall, the Spa at Ballantyne is pricer than some of the other upscale spas in the area, but if you want to splurge and experience total luxury, this is the way to go! read more

Found the service to be lower than basic. The manicure I received was at bare minimum. The amount of time spent on nails was good, but quality of finish was not great. Some fingers had tiny bubbles in the polish. Also the rest of the manicure (which talks about relaxing massage in the brochure) was literally slapping on cream and putting warm towels over hands or sliding hands in mittens. The "massage" was for 30 seconds which including time to put on the cream. Counting BOTH hands (I Mississippi counted cos I was growing wary of the service as it progressed). The problem clearly is they auto add 20% gratuity and the technicians don't need to provide good service (20-25% gratuity is normal, but I felt there was no incentive to try harder maybe? Shrug). Also would have preferred getting me to return with good service instead of trying to upsell more services while I was getting poor service on the current one. I don't think I had high expectations, especially if I pay close to $100 with tips. I expect good massages and attention to detail. The technician literally walked away after putting my hands in those warm oven mitt bags. I'd find something cheaper for sure. Also front desk staff was not great either to make up for lack of good service. The setting in the hotel is nice though. read more
