First time there was on my bday this past Friday, and it was nice. The part that I enjoyed the most were the outside pools. The water was a bit too warm though, almost felt like a jacuzzi. There was a lot of chairs to sit outside. There were also pools inside. The saunas were closed due to covid. I got the Swedish massage which was average, was a bit disappointment. Unfortunately, Spa Castle seems unwilling to privately address the concerns of those of us who purchased pre-buys prior to COVID-19 and the "re-opening." After the long pandemic enforced closure lifted, I journeyed out to the location. Unfortunately, a shadow of its former self. Mask wearing does not happen in "the wet areas;" that would be the baths in the locker areas and the pools on the upper levels. On Nov. 22nd, when I went, there was ONE sauna open in Sauna Valley and the Ice Land cool room. The outer sauna was open and operable at that point as well. When I returned on Dec. 18th, ALL saunas were closed, the outside pools were open and deserted so didn't feel particularly vulnerable. While I was relaxing in the inside reclining pools, the jets were turned off and I was informed that the area had JUST BEEN CLOSED BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT and I should get out of them. Polite, but no effort made to compensate for the disruption of my relaxation OR my distress at bathing in something had just been deemed "unsafe for the public." In November, I was told by the staff at the desk that the pre-buys would be extended for the "3 months" that Spa Castle was closed. For me, that time is up in February. I have kept checking to see if any of the saunas have re-opened because, honestly, investing the time to get out there and back for SO LITTLE PLEASURE and some "actual risk" does not make losing the cost of the remaining pre-buys worth the effort. Prior to writing this review, I sent an e-mail to Spa Castle's customer service expressing my concerns. They would LOSE NOTHING if they stated on their website that all pre-buys and Groupons would be honored without expiration dates but their obvious lack of concern about customer service and reputation do not make me feel that the business has any hope of returning as a well-run and worthwhile destination. read more

We came to NY to celebrate my birthday & my husband suggested spa castle. We had a great time and took advantage of the multiple levels. Food was fresh and tasty when we ordered lunch. My suggestions...bring your own towels, flip flops for common areas an insulated cup to keep your drinks cold/frozen, and a cover up if you plan on eating in the upstairs restaurant. There were a few areas "out of order" or temporarily shut down (like the napping room ) But overall a great stay! p.s. my only other "complaint " were the kids. Most kids think of this place as fun (instead of relaxing) so the splashing, horse playing and yelling is real! Wish they had an "adult only" side or level so we can relax in peace. read more

I previously stated that I would never give this place less than 5 stars. Unfortunately the time has come where I am eating my words. I am not even angry anymore. I am just sad. I have given up on you Spa Castle. You hurt me. It's like watching a loved one get addicted to heroin. You watch their life crumble away little by little. Here's my theory about spa castle and might help you first timers know what to expect. It is a wonderful concept that had a lot of potential and started out as a really good thing. I would go there in the beginning and reach a state of relaxation that my mind and body had never known. They had wonderful options for saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, etc. It was a really great thing they had going ( I speak of it in the past tense because it is dead) What ruined it you ask? The same thing that ruined spa castle is the same thing that ruins everything, including our planet. The human race. We are like an STD or a roach infestation. We come to push boundaries and devour. That is why where there are humans, there also must be rules. Oh and there are plenty of rules at Spa Castle. There are signs everywhere, lists of rules posted throughout, and even pictures of things with lines through them just in case you can't read. Which is acceptable based on the clientele they are serving, but I will get to that a little later. The other thing you should know about rules is that they must be enforced otherwise they are just empty words. Anyone can make a rule, but it takes a leader to enforce a rule. Which brings me to my next point. There is a serious lack of leadership and management seems to have given up. They started out looking the other way and then the problem got out of hand and now they are outnumbered. Because the rules were soft at first, they attracted a certain clientele that is not aware of spa etiquette and has no regard for anyone around them. Now the problem is too big and would take an army to correct. If someone is not following a rule, you have to ask them to leave. You just have to. I know it's hard, but in the end it will be worth it. Here's why it's worth it: when you enforce rules, you win back the clientele that you wanted in the first place. The people like me. The people who just want to relax and know how to tip. Instead you have lost me, but you will continue to get the people who are trying to shoot their amateur music videos in the nude area. This place isn't cheap. I am choosing to take my dollar elsewhere. Spa Castle you failed because you got greedy. You would rather have a mediocre product and immediate gratification, but you have blinders on because this will only end one of a two ways: 1. The Spa Castle name will be destroyed and it will become a joke and will be featured in memes and south park episodes. 2. The department of health will shut you down. You hear our cries. You hear our voices. Figure out a way to get rid of the kids, stop overcrowding, and stop letting people put my naked body on their snapchats. Also, I shouldn't smell one hint of mold if you are actually cleaning the way you say you are. I think there needs to be more manager meetings and more of a united front. I feel for the people that work there but it is clear that corporate views this location as the red headed step child because you are still making money. You had an entire global pandemic worth of time to fix broken jets and scrub mold rings. You did not do these things so therefor I have no more room for you in my life. However, I think this will be last time I visit. And I won't be back. They are clearly under staffed. Long lines. Nothing seems to be in order. And they are just grab money as fast as they can before some big trouble come at their door. In fact, I read newspaper article that president of the company settled with state general attorney's office for tax evasion! In Mens lockers, there is no towels after shower. The staffs notify manager Richard many times but he is no help. I had to wipe off with t shirts they have. Manager guy genuinely not interested to taking care of customers. Men's locker is total trash. Filthy at best! And as you see in the pictures, these women have no shame swearing front of my kids, half naked at women locker room entrance. No enforcement whatsoever. I and my family used to love to come here to relax but this place became horrendously unhealthy place. There were so many people at the pool/spa. Water doesn't look clean whatsoever. Floor were wet everywhere. Bunch of alcohol drinkers. Spa castle is just happy to sell many liquor as possible. If you have kids, place go someplace else. One of my favorite day spas! Why ? Because I can literally stay at this Korean day spa all day! (No bias being part Korean myself) The location is not the greatest for this oasis. The have amazing saunas that vary from gold, to Himalayan salt, light therapy and cold. So many ways to detox and cleanse from the world around you! The outdoor swimming pools are great with massaging jets! One thing Is you get a uniform so it's your bathing suit then what they give you. It's good because it's a spa not a fashion show! Rocking them long shorts!! Shoes - your barefoot or you buy spa castle shoes. Although I see those who wear there own either way. The food does need to be amped up a bit though! The juice bar area with fresh stuff awesome!!! For some Asian dishes awesome. I'm not a spa enthusiast by any means, but I heard so much about this place that I decided I was ready to storm the castle, so to speak. Armed with a Groupon in hand and my posse we ventured forth to the Castle! For starters there is valet parking which is free, just tip the valets when you pick up your car. The place is large, modern and clean. When you check in you pay upfront the admission cost for use of the spa, you are then given a watch to wear which will be your electronic locker key for your shoe and clothes locker downstairs. The key also serves as your ID when you charge for food and services. NOTE 1: Flip flops are not permitted, walk bare feet or purchase a pair of their special slippers, towels, robes, some items are also for rent as well. NOTE 2: The locker area has a pool section labeled "All Nude area" so If you want to let it all hang out go for it!! (Men and Women separately in this area, sorry guys) After you're all changed into your personal gear the spa issues you a pair of shorts, T-shirt and a small towel, the short and shirt are not flattering to say the least, but are required to be worn when you go up the flight of stairs to the common area where men and women sit back and relax. You can purchase meals and drinks here as well. The food is OK, I would recommend eating somewhere else before coming here because the food prices are not cheap. The common area also houses the saunas and provide full body massages and reflexology for a fee. There are different saunas ranging from the coldest set at 46 degrees F. to the hottest set at 171 degrees F. As I entered the 171 degree heated room and laid on the floor mat my immediate reaction in my mind was "What in the Hell am I doing here!!!" as beads of sweat slowly turned into streams. As I lay there delirious from the heat I can see vultures circling the air waiting to pick on my flesh as I bake myself to oblivion. After my 5 minute session I stood up to be once again struck with the heat enveloping my entire body, science is right, heat does rise! After coming to my senses I went to a few more saunas and actually started to feel really good. I headed upstairs to the roof top pool spa which also has a bar. Now don't be fooled, the pool spa is not for swimming. The pool area is heated and has different stations offering varying degrees of water jet pressure directed towards your back, arms, legs and feet. You can feel the tension slowly being "washed" away by the powerful jets. The water is heavily chlorinated and they monitor the chlorine levels pretty carefully. After a few hours my whole body was super relaxed. I laid motionless in the recliner as I drifted to a light sleep. There is also a designated sleep area if you want to go all out and get some serious shut eye. There are a few massage chairs but they charge you $3 for 10 minutes of use, I thought this was a little outrageous but was told if they didn't charge people, they would never leave the chair, true! When you check out a screen will display the items charged to your account that day, if you agree to all the charges, pay and you're done. BTW, they do not accept American Express cards. The people working here were all very nice and cordial. After Spa Castle I was so hungry we went to the other castle, White Castle!! :) read more

I had a gift card that I wanted to use for my wife's birthday that I had purchased 5+ years ago. When I got there I was having a lot of trouble trying to use the gift card as they could not locate it in the system as they changed their systems. I was told we could resolve it on the way out. While there we really enjoyed our experience. The sugar scrub was great and my wife was talking about it for weeks after. The massage was also equally as great. We really enjoyed having some time to relax together alone. We went during the day on a weekend and it seemed quiet. On the way out I had left without being able to use my gift card because there was a problem locating it, after much frustration and waiting one of the managers Tenzing was able to be reached and he was really great and went above and beyond to try to locate our gift card. My Korean body scrub was fantastic! The therapist was top notch. If I were to give my therapist stars, it would be 5. I take stars off because the massage beds themselves had a severe case of mildew. I was going to walk out of the treatment, but figured I was already there and could shower off later... and then even after a shower the smell didn't come off my skin. Gorgeous venue with atrocious prices. I have an issue with the staff. They're not very accommodating let alone friendly. As a first timer I expected the staff to explain how Spa Castle works in regards to what goes where and direct me in the right area. In the locker room you receive uniforms to change into. Uniforms are standard and uncomfortable. Small towels are provided which means you either have to bring your own towel or be subjected to rent a standard sized towel if you forget yours. The barefoot policy is ridiculous. They do this to nickel and dime you for the rental of their slippers. The food is overpriced and not good. Small portions with an expensive price tag to boot. Drinks are insanely priced as well. A Long Island Iced Tea will run you $18. I love my LITS but there's no way in Hades that I would drop $18 on one. Next time I'll bring my flask. Saunas are really cool if you can take the heat. The intensity levels vary amongst the rooms. My favorite room is the Ice Land sauna. It's 50 degrees and the perfect temp for me. This sauna helps the muscles, tendons, bones, nerves and other tissues to recover. The outdoor pools are warm but after awhile the jet streams hurt your body. I preferred the indoor hot whirlpool. You can tell this place was great at some point in the past, no longer. Exposed wires coming out of junction boxes in saunas were too many to count. Tiles were falling off the pool and saunas, you can also see the scum water line in the outdoors pools - needed a cleaning. Many of the water massages in the outdoor pools weren't functional. Some amenities were closed permanently, foot and hand massage - etc. People wanted to get romantic in saunas by themselves. Men's locker room pool area has the only steam room. I was told I need to be naked, hesitantly I obliged. Walked into a steam room with about 8 men crammed in. Was in there for 5min before 2 men started very obviously playing with themselves. I can't think of any good reasons why you shouldn't be able to wear a bathing suit or have a towel wrapped around you to use the men's locker room pool. checked it out but definitely will not go back or recommend. read more

There are 5 varieties in the Woman's Bath area. What Temperature do you prefer? 104 F? 100F? 78F? Were you craving a wet or dry sauna? Well, they have one of each in the Bath Area. Do you like rooftop pools? There is a pool that spans the block; offering multiple forms of hydrotherapy. Your feet, your head? There is a massaging jet for that. What about your tummy? Yeup- There is a massaging jet for that. Your back hurts? Now worries, Spa Castle has got your back. I have spent all day at Spa Castle. Its a perfect relaxing treat for yourself. My favorite activities is jumping from the 104 F pool to the 78F and alternating between the dry sauna and the 78F pool. And I'm a huge fan of the Hinoki Bath. For the Hinoki Bath- you don't smell pines, mainly you smell chlorine. But there is something so serene as the warm bubbling water is massaging your muscles and you gaze upon their flowering Bird's of Paradise. OMG, I went there in the winter and it didn't disappoint. Main floor has lots of Sauna rooms. They go from cold to very Hot, I do not remember the temperature numbers. Each one of them has a purpose that fits with your needs and body structure. For me the hottest one works the best. As I sweated a lot and stayed stagnant my body started to relax and get to the point that I couldn't get up. Too bad it got too hot that I needed to get out when its about 30mins or I'd die... Please remember for hot sauna you are allowed to stay up to 30-40 mins and MUST take a rest in room temperature for 10 mins. Else you might suffer... There are sections that you can just relax, sit and chat, watch TV, stretching section, or a sleeping section. The outdoor pool experience is Awesome! It was cold outside and the pool was warm and cozy. It also had many devices with water pressure that massages you with the water inside the pool. It has a variety devices and with variety of methods. The experience in the main locker room is like going to the gym, there are people walking in nude to change and to go to the hot tubs and shower. Should be a normal experience after you have been to college gym, changing room of swimming pool, or even a normal gym. After the whole experience of 4+ hrs in this place my whole body was so relaxed that I couldn't move when I was leaving. I went in with pretty low expectations for this place but this is definitely a nice place to relax and enjoy the saunas and pools. How to Get There (from Flushing and if you don't have a car) There's a shuttle that takes people from the front of the One Boutique Hotel (corner of Northern Blvd and Union St) and leaves according to schedule (well just my experience). The drivers were friendly and bid us goodbye when we arrived at Spa Castle. Welcome to Spa Castle! The watch thing is pretty neat. Sure beats having to carry your wallet with you everywhere. My shoe locker was malfunctioning (also as a first-timer I had NO clue how the lockers worked) and then my friend's locker didn't lock properly (it finally did once she gave it a good shove). Got me some $5 hotel slippers. Most expensive and not worth it slippers I've had to buy. They do also have robes, towels, bathing suits and kiddie float tubes for rent on the 3rd floor. 1st Floor- Sauna Valley Loved all the saunas except I couldn't last in there for too long. My favorite room had to be the ice room. It's so cool how there's snow on the walls of that thing. Who knew sweating could be so relaxing? You seriously do not even feel yourself sweating until you walk out of the sauna. Don't stay inside for more than 10 minutes! 2nd Floor- The Pools! The outdoor and indoor pools are so much fun! I'm still tingling from being in the hydrotherapy pool. We went earlier in the day to the pool and the water was fine. But when we visited again later in the afternoon, we noticed there was some black stuff floating among the soap suds (or water bubbles?) and that grossed us out so we left and went to the outdoor pools! It's really a lot of fun to run from the warmth of the inside, bracing the winter wind for a few minutes before jumping into the warm water of the outdoor pools. I would say winter is an awesome time to visit the outdoor pools (and I thought about this) since kids can't (and shouldn't) swim outside in the cold! But adults sure can. The place is relatively empty in the morning (got there around 11) but soon grew crowded around the afternoon hours (1-3pmish). So come early so you can try out everything before you have no space to lie down in the sauna cuz it's all full. Bulgogi from the Korean restaurant on the 4th floor was pretty filling but the portion size was definitely not worth the $19.50. Could have gotten way more at a restaurant in Flushing but hey, it was worth it. Lastly, some first-timers advice for other first-timers from a first-time (that was a mouthful): bring your own beach towel, the slippers are kinda worth the $5 (no having to go barefoot except when entering saunas and the pools), swimsuit under the uniform if you're not comfortable with changing there (no closed changing rooms...besides the bathroom), if you can use the shuttle they offer and perhaps bring one of those small reusable tote bags? I saw a few people carrying around small tote bags to hold all their stuff. Clever idea. All staff members I encountered were friendly and nice. I have a love hate relationship with this place. Over the years I think because of Groupon, not the best people come into this place and disturb the peace. Spa Castle used to be very relaxing and clean but as more people come- it gets hectic, dirty and people treat it as a public pool in the summer instead of a place for relaxation. Last time I was there, there was a significant amount of loud children, which is obviously not relaxing. And uncaring parents who would bring their family of 15 to crowd over the pools. The staff is very nice and friendly and I overall love the layout of the place but like I said the people who have begun to go there mess up the environment making it feel like a crowded mess over the months. Don't really recommend coming here unless it's in the winter when people don't treat it like a public pool. read more
